I work at a retail store, and Sony told us that the Bravia TVs worked with an improved HDR for the PS5 in comparison with other TV Brands, but if I’m honest with you, we have had the opportunity to prove that at the store. We connected a PS5 to a OLED C4 against a Bravia 8 and at my perception, the HDR performance was practically identical. So I doubt there’s a plus of having a Bravia TV + PS5. Even when Sony’s Brand advocates say that. The only difference is the PS Remote app available for the Sony Bravia TVs.
That’s awesome. Just got a C4. My first OLED TV. Maybe one day I shall update to a higher model, but I do love this C4 so much. I also haven’t adjusted settings other than turning off Eco mode, going to Filmmaker, etc.
Have the C1 and looking to upgrade. Do I go for a C4 or a G4 or wait for the C5? Has the C4 fixed the darkness setting ? Looking at mini LED Bravia 7 also, since am always looking the increase brightness but am afraid of losing the inky blackness of the OLED. Any advice?
for the guy asking the playstation question, most of the features are included already with hdmi 2.1 automatic features regardless of the TV. like automatically switching into game mode, auto tone mapping. i think bravia's have the app on them that allows streaming your playstation from another room in the house, but that app might be available on other smart TVs.
Also the HGIG-like PS5 specific HDR tonemapping mode they added was shown to be broken by Vincent Teoh at the time when it was first added, I'm not sure it was ever fixed. It capped the brightness low and left juice on the table for no reason. So seems like Sony TVs were worse for the general consumer who doesn't understand whats right or wrong and just uses it assuming it better than manually tweaking without it on or even competitor products, especially LG OLEDs.
I just upgraded last month from my 2014 Sony 65" LCD, to a Hisense 75U7N from Costco. $999 delivered. Not only am I very happy with it, but I don't see prices dropping any further for this size and picture quality. Its 4K Dolby Vision is remarkable, and I know the Sony Bravia 7 looks better, but at $2500+ definitely not 2.5x better. And I've been a Sony TV guy my whole adult life and XBR owner over 20 years. 6:28 - this can (and does) go further into why Sony is able to frequently deliver unrivaled cinematic experiences at home. Sony make a lot of industry film cameras, camera sensors even if they don’t make the entire camera, audio equipment for recording and producing sounds, the digital sound and image formats, and they are direct publishers of film and music content themselves on physical media at least. To say they have a complete end to end understanding of digital entertainment content that is leaps and bounds ahead of any other competitor might still be an understatement. That isn’t to say other TVs physically cannot compete, because we know in the OLED space Sony is using Samsung panels, but if you want pretty much near the best possible reproduction to source material at home with the least amount of fuss if you don’t want to he an expert, go with Sony home equipment. You can't keep up with technology. I have an LG E9 65" Oled. Fantastic tv and picture. The problem is 65 is the new 55, and I need to up size. I'm wondering if Samsung S95D will drop more in price once the 2025 models come out?
Is there any reason why Netflix calibrated mode is significantly brighter than the custom mode on Sony A80L? Aren't both of these modes chasing after accuracy?
I decided back in August to upgrade my 2015 Samsung 4K 65" to the LG C4 77" OLED. (I'd go for 83", except it really wouldn't fit on my TV wall, nor in my budget.) Because of our travel schedule, I opted not to buy it in October, figuring maybe Black Friday in November. Then the price dropped about $300. But November is now out because we will be gone most of December... Thank you for the '25 CES heads up the 1st week of January. Looking forward to your CES report, and with luck, a further price drop on my C4. SO, just how does one lug a boxed, 77" new TV up a flight of stairs without telling my wife what I've just done?
Could you review the new Panasonic W95 Series Mini LED TV soon? I have been a Panasonic fan for professional video products, so I’m interested to see how their newest consumer TV is compared to the other top brands you regularly review.
I have two 83 inch a90j’s and I’m thinking about upgrading one of them in the near future. I don’t really want to downgrade size so I’d want something equally as big, but better quality (assuming newest tvs were that much better than an a90j). My question is, Is there anything worth upgrading to just yet? Maybe the 85inch Bravia 9? I know the a95L is great and G4 but is G4 that much better than a90j?
Similar dilemma here. I’m open to upgrading my 83” A90J when I can either get the same size with significantly better PQ, or a larger screen with at least similar PQ. I can’t afford the 97” OLEDs yet, so I’m hoping to see an 83” Sony QD-OLED next year. That won’t be exactly affordable, but probably not 25K+ either.
Had to return a mini led TCL tv because it fried my eyes. Even when I turned down the brightness and it looked much duller than my other tv but it still caused severe eye strain. it was a TCL c755 even on brightness 10 it was cooking my eyes, had to return it
My Vizio won't turn on unless I unplug it and plug it back in. Is there a brand that won't do that? I'm disabled and it's a really a nuisance. Thanks. The PlayStation used to turn the TV on automatically, but now only sometimes. It's definitely the TV.
Hi, I've been watching your videos. I want to change my Samsung QLed Q60A. I'm interested in the Hisense U7N or U8N. Haven't made my mind yet. I wanted to ask you if it's the best choice for me, because I don't have a PS5, I own a PS4 slim, not even the pro. I watch a lot Netflix, Disney and Amazon Prime content. I play regularly, but I want to make the jump. I could afford an LG C4 OLED, but I'm affraid of burning OLED. I know the image is far better in OLED, but do I need it? Or with the MininLed U8N is enough for what I watch and play? Help me, what do you recomend? I want a 65". Thanks
it still seems weird that a real world 98-100" OLED is still not available in 2024. I guess it's tougher to produce than meets the eye, but it should be doable at a price that's less than nice used car.
I bought a cheap Insignia Fire TV 55" for $220. Looks amazing. Honestly it looks better than Sony and Samsung and all those. IMO, plasma TV looked the best. But they had bad burn in problems. But the quality of them was best. Then the OLEDs were great but all the other LCDs look the same imo.
I was going to upgrade to LG’s 65”G4 but with the announcement of Panasonic’s return to the US market I want to wait for a review of the U.S. release. Will you be reviewing the flagship version of the three being released?
Would've been helpful if you explained or pointed to a video on what blue PHOLED is. I left your video to search for and watch another person's video explaining it.
83-inch QD OLED panels from Samsung Display in 2025? Awesome! I'd LOVE an 83-inch Sony QD OLED TV! But if a 77-inch Sony QD OLED costs $5,000, I'd imagine an 83-inch Sony QD OLED could cost $7,000, or maybe even more. But if I was making extra money faster, after I made $6,000, I'd sell my 85-inch Sony X90L locally and pull the trigger on a Sony 83-inch QD OLED!
Yeah I feel the same way. I know I can get Bravia 7 and it’s for sure a bit better, but how much better. If I’m getting 10-20% more for 50% more money, it’s not really worth it to me. And if you’re coming from a much older TV like I am, the X90L will likely still be much better than what you had before. I’ll see how the prices land at Black Friday sales time.
@@piefliesif viewing angle is important then the 7 is the better option. I compared both and yes value the x90l brings but the killer for me was the viewing angle. Just a thought
@@redshine06 👍 I didn't mind the viewing angle of the X90L in store, for my use case. I'm a bit worried about subtitle blooming though so I need to go try them out with some subtitles.

Got my first OLED, LG C4 55 inch from Costco last month. I'm good for awhile, tech is always changing. If you always wait for the greatest, you will always have nothing
I bought the Sony x93l. I took it back thing draws 418 w of power and I walked by it and it's like a space heater. I had to pay for the wattage out of the wall plus my air conditioner. Trying to cool the TV down. I took it back and bought the 90l thing. Runs cool as can be until they get mini LEDs efficient and don't draw a lot of current. Do not get a mini LED unless you don't care about electric bills
I auto reach for my remote to tweak picture 3? times a day. YT and streaming do NOT share the same flow for me. Am I watching a color concept Sci Fi movie or a drama etc. I've always done this though day to night (even with theater shades) the reasons are plenty and so are my tweaking needs. I find it fun though so...
CES 2025: Las Vegas January 7-10, 2025. At this late date in the year it might make sense to just wait if ur wanting the 83/85” QD-OLED- that’s unless u just really have to have a new tv going into the holidays. Like others have said the QD at 83/85” is of course gonna cost sm extra coins so start saving up now folks.
My OLED Samsung S95C is just on the edge of too bright. Especially when white subtitles are on. I can't imagine putting a mini LED in the same spot. I do like the gimmick that it tries to blind you with the power off animation though. It is seriously impressive this is an OLED.
Atmos isn't a format technically. It's metadata embedded in either a DD+ or Dolby TrueHD signal for spatial surround effects. That's what sucks above no Atmos via DD+ with optical It can do it, they just don't allow it. You need to check your TV guide to see what it will output over fiber. Many don't do DTS and some just do vanilla Dolby digital. Optical is really LED pulses over a clear rubber/plastic tube anyways. It mimics fiber through. That's why it doesn't have insane run distances. LED lights can't travel far.
Panasonic knows this...and it is no coincidence that they waited until after the Value Electronics TV Shootout to make their comeback announcement. They are aware that WOLED has reached its apex in terms of color at the high and low end of the color spectrum.
Personally I think, We should buy Samsung QD-OLED or 8K mini led 85 inch in living room as well as smarthings center. LG WOLED 77 in the bedroom, G4 good enough. Other space get Samaung Frame. unless Sony fan or PS5 fan.
Caleb are you one of the "founding" members of Digital Trends? You seem to be unusually dedicated for just an "employee" if you know what I mean. I'm really curious. Please answer it. Thanks.
The wait til next year guy with the 85” Sony, you say maybe Samsung will come out with a 83-85” Q-OLED but as we All Know, they don’t support Dolby Vision. What about Sony?
Mini leds imo should have more dimming zones to come close to what OLED can do. I mean they not bad in current state but you do want less blooming as possible as of a good amount will wash into the image making it look hazy and off thus the colors won’t be accurate
@@robertt9342 it’s never going to be that amount of dimming zones on a mini led but it needs to be much more to minimize the blooming. I see that mini leds come with less then 1,000 zones that’s not enough. A 4k OLED has 8 million pixels which each pixel acts as a dimming zone so ya hence infinite contrast on OLED
This reminds me of cell phones every year they get brighter and brighter. I have sensitivity to Bright Light so brighter it goes I don't care really to be honest. For me you just put the television up on the wall set up the way you like you put the brightness as high as you want it to be or as low as you want it to be and that's it I don't need to wait for the next best thing because it's usually just Minor Details that are better
Peak brightness is, in many cases, pointless as a measure of bright room visibility. If the content is mastered at 1 nit (house of the dragon beach scene!) it's not going to be visible in a bright room on any display technology, and if you're watching sports in a bright room then reflection handling is more important.
There is always something “better” every year. First you have to ask yourself if it’s are those newer TV’s really any better than last year models. Usually it’s not really. At that point, make a decision if you want to find last year model deals at a discount or buy the latest and greatest. I personally think most of this TV tech is just a marketing ploy at this point. Especially when it comes to 4K. I think visuals have peaked. Take the discount and go with last year model! Get the size you want and be happy! What we really need is for cable and all content to stream at a consistent 4k!
Just wanted to add something for the guy that is asking if he should wait for 2025 models. just know that at CES, you won't get ANY Sony updates. Sony waits until March/April/May (somewhere in there) because they don't want their products to be glossed over in the sea of electronics at CES. Sony will do their announcement in the late spring.
"Wait until 2023.......Wait until....2024.....Wait until 2025......Wait until 2099.....Its all a JOKE and a simple MARKETING ploy........Just buy LAST YEARS model and you will always be way ahead of their GAME.
I don’t think it’s marketing, but rather it’s people trying to avoid missing out on new features/technology. Either way the deep discount previous years model is the best value.
Every TV made today is too bright, way too bright. Do the manufactures think people watch TV in their front yard? I saved some money and bought an LED 5000K light bulb, and I just stare at that.
I hate filmmaker mode and any mode that controls how I like my picture. I've always enjoyed my TV as bright as I can get it. I just like the look. So I set mine to Vibrant and cool picture. I can't stand a warm picture.

What advanced features do Sony TVs offer when used with a PS5?
Auto hdr tone
Caleb hopefully you asked for the new Panasonic Oleds to review. Amazing that they finally started selling in the US again
When is the Bravia 7 review coming out?
Some optical outputs only give a 5.1 audio. There are HDMI expansion / adapter baxes that can provide 7.1.2 .
only for streaming ( Netflix,Prime, etc) is there any difference between 2025 and present model like C4 or S90D ?
any news of S95E come with 85 inch? Dolby vision?
any news of new flagship of LG soundbar to beat 990D?
Even when I turned down the brightness and it looked much duller than my other tv but it still caused severe eye strain. it was a TCL c755 even on brightness 10 it was cooking my eyes, had to return it
Please upload video in hdr so we can see the quality of tv better.
My Vizio won't turn on unless I unplug it and plug it back in. Is there a brand that won't do that? I'm disabled and it's a really a nuisance. Thanks. The PlayStation used to turn the TV on automatically, but now only sometimes. It's definitely the TV.
I just upgraded my 55 x900e to a 65 bravia 7. Holy smokes! It was a big improvement. 🎉
I had a 900e and upgraded to an x95k and thought it was better but not massively better. I'm interested in the Bravia 9 successor.
I have used my 2012 Panasonic Plasma everyday in the bedroom and it does not have burn-in
I was going to upgrade to LG’s 65”G4 but with the announcement of Panasonic’s return to the US market I want to wait for a review of the U.S. release. Will you be reviewing the flagship version of the three being released?
G4 smokes All 3 of them
For Apple event: Gen-4 Apple TV 4K launch date? Which processor?
I'm still waiting for my 70" 2012 Sharp LCD set to die before buying a new TV. Unfortunately, it may outlive me.
I really don’t like the Prime calibration mode as it seems to put a murky yellow/brown filter over the image. Not a fan.
Would've been helpful if you explained or pointed to a video on what blue PHOLED is. I left your video to search for and watch another person's video explaining it.
Exciting that you will be at the Apple Event! Wish I could think of a question. Another fun episode today!
I would like to ask about wifi 7 for samsung 8k televisions will we see it for 2025.
Awesome reviews 👍
83-inch QD OLED panels from Samsung Display in 2025? Awesome! I'd LOVE an 83-inch Sony QD OLED TV! But if a 77-inch Sony QD OLED costs $5,000, I'd imagine an 83-inch Sony QD OLED could cost $7,000, or maybe even more. But if I was making extra money faster, after I made $6,000, I'd sell my 85-inch Sony X90L locally and pull the trigger on a Sony 83-inch QD OLED!
Yes and No.
Don’t really want to spend more than 1500 for a 75 inch. I was looking at that Sony x90l sale.
I just bought a Sony XBR - 80 Oled 55 inch for my dark room. Picture is nice. Its looking like Sony is going with the mini led tvs now. Oled from sony is leaving the oled tvs is the way i am seeing it.
I'm waiting for the black Friday/Cyber Monday sales and then I'm 100% buying an 85" Samsung QN90C. Right now I can get it for under $1900 but hopefully that price drops even more by then.
Hey Caleb will you do a hisense u7n review any time soon ? Would love to know ..
Is that REALLY a stack of Dynaco's behind you? How very cool! I built several of those in the 70s, when I was actually young.
I am looking forward to seeing the Sony A97L QD-OLED in 97” using blue PHOLED!
I wonder, why go from plasma to mini led and not oled?
thanks Pal, that was very enjoyable 👍
Yes I want a 97”QD OLED with Nono tech screen like the S95D
Atmos isn't a format technically. It's metadata embedded in either a DD+ or Dolby TrueHD signal for spatial surround effects.
That's what sucks above no Atmos via DD+ with optical
It can do it, they just don't allow it.
When are they going to get rid of the bloatware in these sluggish TVs? They are so slow.
Definitely wait, Panasonic is back this year and they are supposed to come out with new TV's in 2025. LG, Samsung and Sony better bring their A game!
They made a woled. Same woled they have been selling for years.
Woled sucks.
Panasonic knows this...and it is no coincidence that they waited until after the Value Electronics TV Shootout to make their comeback announcement. They are aware that WOLED has reached its apex in terms of color at the high and low end of the color spectrum.
Panasonic is back. There is a huge secret why Panasonic left the UNITED States of America 10 years ago, and it will blow your mind.......
I have used my 2012 Panasonic P60 Plasma everyday in the bedroom and it does not have burn-in and still looks better and more natural than most LCDs
@audubonpointtownhouses ya i wouldn't want to enjoy 4k HDR either...
What about qdel tvs?😭
Every year you can get your dream TV 😂
Personally I think,
We should buy Samsung QD-OLED or 8K mini led 85 inch in living room as well as smarthings center.
Thanks.
Blue pholed is several years away for commercial use.
Sadly!
The wait til next year guy with the 85” Sony, you say maybe Samsung will come out with a 83-85” Q-OLED but as we All Know, they don’t support Dolby Vision. What about Sony?
Waiting for a Bravia 9 miniled 98"
Mini leds imo should have more dimming zones to come close to what OLED can do. I mean they not bad in current state but you do want less blooming as possible as of a good amount will wash into the image making it look hazy and off thus the colors won’t be accurate
You basically need 1:1 pixels and dimming zones
@@robertt9342 it’s never going to be that amount of dimming zones on a mini led but it needs to be much more to minimize the blooming. I see that mini leds come with less then 1,000 zones that’s not enough. A 4k OLED has 8 million pixels which each pixel acts as a dimming zone so ya hence infinite contrast on OLED
MicroLED is too far away or too expensive
I bought a Samsung 55 QD-OLED S92C/S90C for 1000$ it's amazing tv . I had an LG C1 before this one.
Which is why I tell almost everyone to buy last year’s TV
Get a time machine and go and buy the 2030 TV
@@AncientYouth64Better: get a Time Machine and buy yourself a 2030 TV in 2031.
I don’t think it’s marketing, but rather it’s people trying to avoid missing out on new features/technology.
Either way the deep discount previous years model is the best value.
@Caleb_Denison I did that for my Sony A8H. Got it for half price. It looks wonderful!
I'm waiting for new tvs and new pc monitors that will use the new Micro LED technology.
Every TV made today is too bright, way too bright. Do the manufactures think people watch TV in their front yard? I saved some money and bought an LED 5000K light bulb, and I just stare at that.
Best TV over 95" and under 10K ??
Atmos went from being an actual technology to just a sticker on the box, completely misunderstood and poorly implemented in the consumer space
The fact that most don't change pictures settings freeks me the hell out
Some 2024 TV's like the Panasonic Z95 have only just been released, it's not long until CES next year.
I hate filmmaker mode and any mode that controls how I like my picture. I've always enjoyed my TV as bright as I can get it. I just like the look. So I set mine to Vibrant and cool picture. I can't stand a warm picture.
Don’t wait till 2025. With Tariffs incoming. It’s going to cost a lot more!
Doubt it.
