It strikes me that Fonda should have got the Oscar for this performance even with the minimalistic dialogue. It's a unique performance and so unlike himself. This performance stands alone in his great career. This was essentially a Spaghetti Western and public reception was far from a done deal. I doubt this was much more than a hope and prayer for the producer but everyone in the movie appears totally committed. A very unique movie!
Pinnacle of Spaghetti But NOT, I repeat NOT better than The Good The Bad and The Ugly. I like this film, a lot. It may even be more watchable than Good Bad. But it ain't better. No knock on Bronson, he was great. But if Clint played that role? Well, who knows...
@@sluggo2014 I beg to differ, Once upon a time is better than G, B, and Ugly for one reason and this scene proves it. Take Bronson and Eastwood...The good....and Van Cleef and Fonda...the bad out of the equation and what do you have left as the third main character? Eli Wallach and Claudia Cardinale....I'd rather look at this scene with Claudia in a bath than Eli in his G.B, and Ugly bath scene!
@@jeffnelson2930 Lol, I won't argue against Cardinale in a bathtub! And I'll not debate which movie is "better". Even though I raised the issue, its all subjective and my opinion stands. I will point out that Wallach stole almost every scene he was in, and while Cardinale did a damn fine job, she ain't no Eli Wallach. Thank goodness! Cheers to both movies, both casts, and to Sergio Leone .
Great performance from her. Even acting along side cinematic legends like Bronson and Fonda she still commands the audiences attention. Not to mention she's a stunning beauty.
Found this on the fall actor Fabio Testi made through that roof: "The movie almost cost somebody else his life: Fabio Testi. He was not yet very well known as an actor and hired in the first place as a stuntman, but Leone thought he had an interesting face and invented a scene for him in which he would appear as 'Frank's dandesque henchman'. The scene was never shot because Testi had a bad fall when performing a stunt."
Result: Best fall stunt I have ever seen. Made me go " holy shit!" and then bust out laughing. What a gem. Props to the dude that took that fall, what a hero! Edit. I saw a similar fall just tonight in A Reason to Live, a Reason to Die (1972). Made me think of this scene.
Fonda is so quick to shoot people there's no way he could even tell who he's shooting, anyone who he sees he blast em. This is where shoot first ask questions later comes from although he probably shot anyone who asks questions also.
Easily one of the greatest Westerns of all-time & Sergio Leone's, absolute masterpiece... ☆ B E T T E R than the more famous, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. 🤜That opening scene, alone's, the stuff of legend❗️ 🇨🇦
Henry. Yes we're on a first name basis. He told the director since I'm playing a bad guy maybe I should wear brown contact lenses.the director said no way we're not letting them see your blue eyes.
@@JohnDrummondPhoto I'd love to hear the story behind that one. The guy definitely broke some bones and that stunt absolutely didn't go as planned. Did some research and found out that man is Fabio Testi. He's still alive today. No idea what injuries he sustained there, though.
This is one of my top three westerns of all time the other ones being Young Guns series with Emilio Estevez and Chisum with John Wayne. Oh and Lonesome Dove so top 4.
The Good The Bad and The Ugly with Clint Eastwood is a classic to along with The Outlaw Josey Wales, Pale Rider and Unforgiven all with Eastwood. The searchers, The Shootist, El Dorado, The Man Who shot Liberty Valance with John Wayne. Silverado is good western to.
2:08 - I don't think that stunt man intended to fall on his neck. There may have been some padding where he landed but it didn't look like much. This is how so many wrestler's careers have ended.
He was definitely injured, but fortunately not paralyzed. He's still alive and kept acting for decades after this. Apparently, he actually landed on his shoulder first.
Here's a suggestion for you, do with it what you will, but if you're really hung up looking for resemblances to reality, I would suggest looking somewhere else besides films. Once Upon A Time In America was a convoluted shambles of a plot that quite possibly was all meant to be an opium induced dream, and yet, if all you got out of that magnificent film, with its magnificent music, and its magnificent connections to the human nostalgic longing we all experience (well, most of us anyway) was that it was "unrealistic", then you sir really don't deserve to be watching films by the Maestro, because your soul is too empty for them to do anything for you anyway. Reminds me of when some great Jazz musician (I forget exactly who) was asked to explain Jazz, to which he replied, "If it needs to be explained to you, then you wouldn't get it anyway".
Hi everyone! What grade (out of 10) would you give this video?

Did Frank shoot 6 bullets or Seven?
Before i give this a 10..i better re-wind this scene and start counting !

Bronson and Fonda!
Priceless!
✨✨✨✨✨✨
Bronson and Claudia. He didn't use his gun in the latter case... Wasted a opportunity, especially since she was already nude (well "hiding nude").
Claudia was so good in this..Loved her strength..

Franks draws are so damn fast, that his perception of movement/threat and his gun action is one in the same. There's no delay.
2:10 probably the craziest and most unique stunt ever !!!
I wouldn't doubt if he got hurt on that stunt!
For sure did not go smoothly nearly landing on his head. A one-taker for sure.

The gunshots sound amazing in this film.
When you can't bath quietly because there a gun fight outside, only in the west.
Good Ol' days.
" you can't bath quietly" - now also in Donbas and other cities in Ukraina , since 11 mths.
So many timeless scenes in one movie!
Stunt man who fell thru roof looked hurt.
Even the ground looked hurt
His name is Fabio Testi. I can't find anything on what injuries he sustained there, only that he was injured from it. He's still alive today.

Hi! The music that you end all clips with, what song is it? It sounds a bit like a tune from the computer game Xcom. I like it!
Гармоника люкс вестерн с Клаудиа Кардинале.❤
Historical buff: There was no bubble bath in the 19th century.
Also, no man would ever say, at that point, to a nude and sudsy Jane Fonda, "Get dressed."
That was a prop used to cover Claudia's privates 😅
Wait a Minute..
"TUCO" took one in "The Good,The Bad and The Ugly"...
So..
Sergo Leone was wrong TWICE"?🤔
Theatrical licence.
Tuco Ramirez invented the bubble bath.
"What did you save me for?"
"Later."
