I've been fascinated by the history of the Korea for years and it has a long and complicated history and the North is so insane under the Kim's rule and I've noticed that each new ruler seems nuttier than the last. I feel so sorry for the North Korean people but I've given up on worrying what will happen if Kim Jung Un decides to throw down with the United States, South Korea, and Japan. Really would be the end of his family's rule and so much death across all of Korea. For those that are interested in the history of the two countries, I'd suggest "The Two Koreas" by Don Oberdofer that starts long before the division and ends with the rise of Kim Jong-il along with "The Girl with Seven Names: A North Korean Defector's Story" by Hyeonseo Lee who details her life growing up in North Korea, love for her people and culture, her defection, seeing the reality of how the Kim family distorts the truth of Korea's history and the threats of prison, work camps, and death to keep the people in line, and how she risked it all to go back and get her mother and brother out of the hermit nation.

Surely the US has done what you are thinking of multiple times in history. Some countries have been destroyed and still remember the American invasions as worst days of their history, only because they had ideologies different than those of the US. If you think that US conquering all non-democratic countries and banning any kind of autocracy there would make everyone happy it is probably as you have been raised in a democratic regime. US should stop looking at itself as the world policeman. The principles of its ideology are by no means what defines universality.
