  • This is a very unusual option for a synth/sequencer: You can set the effects to work on the Aux-in socket, effectively making it a multi-effects system for any instrument. Here's a demo of the effects presets using my guitar directly into the QY100.

    Wow this thing looks amazing. I think it would solve several of my problems at once -- I need a way to add effects to my guitar, a stand-alone synthesizer so I can play my Alesis Vortex keytar without needing a complicated PC setup and a portable electronic music instrument in it's own right, all in one small box.

      Wow, yep this one ticks all the boxes for you! You can still get them from Ebay. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)

    Sadly the screen in this vid doesn't look any clearer than a pixelized news footage. Thanks for the demo anyway

      Fair criticism. Old video, old camera, you know how it is! Having taken the rap though, I have to say it's a very dull screen - utterly lifeless. A backlight would have really bumped it up a massive notch /Gearfacts

      @@gearfacts Understood, not really meant to diss you - just wished I could see what was on screen, given the interesting topic! I also like that this box can double as an arranger module

      @gearfacts  4 года назад +1

      hcb yeah it’s a good idea by Yamaha, I think the arranger/synth is intended to be its primary function. And no offence was taken, it’s a very muddy video!

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  4 года назад

      Roland PMA-5, since about 1995. I used to do all my composing on it but its sounds are a bit dated now. Still a very useful midi tool though, and it features in a lot of my videos where testing midi performance is involved :) #gearfacts

      Oh, it's not brave, I'm just happy to be human about it :) To answer your question, I have had a lot of midi equipment but I rarely keep things for long as I have to keep reviewing new stuff for the channel. I really like 90's gear like Roland's MC series, Korg synths etc ...not a fan of USB but there's not much option these days :/ GF

    Can you program odd time signatures into the unit?

    • @gearfacts

      ***** From memory, I believe that 5/4 was about as complex as it got.

    • @gearfacts

      Get a Roland pma5, it's an oldie but it's way funner!

    • @mijaba
      @mijaba 9 лет назад

      Glynn Masterman I was weighing that unit as well. I've made a comparative feature list between the two. According to another QY100 user, they can do (quoting) ""The QY is able to do every time signature from 1/16 to 16/4.""( including odd time signatures I presume).
      I REALLY like Roland products (or at least I liked my R-5) and it looks fun to use--- but a head to head comparison of features--- the QY100 is just more functional (plus it has 11k more notes available to record).
      Thanks for your input. I'm not entirely decided yet.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  9 лет назад

      Ah, I might be wrong about those QY features. You can read the manual by googling "QY100 pdf". Should be the first result that comes up. In terms of specs and features it definitely beat the PMA5 but the reason I love the PMA is simple: It's freakin fun to use, and that's why we all do music :)
