I mean, I'd imagine it's tough playing 20 years of NBA basketball at 7' tall. Shit does numbers on your body when you aren't that tall, let alone being tall as hell
Thats what professional basketball does. Dirk is an absolute legend of the game he played 21 seasons as a starter playing the best basketball possible.
Damn, feel bad for Dirk with how messed up his legs are now. I'm sure he has taken it well though, he's a legend and seems like such an incredibly nice guy.
@@VilmirHe honestly grew too much to play tennis unfortunately. Being tall is definitely an advantage in the sport, but at a certain point you lose that lateral quickness needed to compete at the top at his height.
@@Vilmir watch ivo karlovich, not really that entertaining when you know no one can break eachothers serve every match and every set goes to tiebreaker
People keep trying to convince me pickleball can be intense (I play badminton), I did try it once. This video just confirms that it's like watching tennis in 10x slow motion on a micro court.
Thing I noticed with tennis is how it really teaches you how important footwork/legs is in your stroke and how it affects the rest of your body including power and accuracy in strokes. It is highly transferrable to basketball including shooting etc.
@Alex Cortez you need to sprint cross court a lot more in tennis than basketball. It's more of a trot, then he hangs out near the rim with occasionally shooting 3s.
@TiddyT eh, the height helps you get a great angle and high bounce. But he may not be dynamic enough(even in his youth) in his spine to serve hard. The fastest serve all time is from a tall guy but most of the rest of the top 10 aren't that big.
Just stick with tennis for as long as you can - once you go to pickle ball you won’t want to come back bc your body is tired…we need athletes to be on the tennis courts instead of these pickleballers taking up 80% of the courts.
Wow that’s dirk . Feel bad for him .. too tall and all those yrs playing basketball, wasn’t kind to his joints .. wishing u nothing but the best legend
Tennis has a pretty steep learning curve and it’s pretty hard to find players at (or near) comparable levels. Pickleball is a way to get four people with zero athletic ability other than to stand and swat flies together on court. Honestly, I love that more Pickleball facilities are being constructed. More tennis courts for us!
The average age of a Pickleball player is now 38.1. It gets younger every year, and will probably being in the Olympics in this next five years. Try and keep up, old man. . .
this is a really fun game. im 36. Play couple times a month. if you have good hand eye coordination, you will love the game. If you worried about lack of athleticism, try singles. Wayyyyy more running and stopping
Man, this is kind of a bummer to see. His knees are completely chewed up by a NBA career. It is crazy that this guy was even able to suit up in the last few years of his career. A fucking legend.
If y'all weren't already aware, Nowitzki is (or was) an incredibly good tennis player who won major youth singles and doubles competitions in Germany as a kid and actually has stated multiple times that it was his favorite sport and the one he probably most wanted to go pro in. His wife, Jessica, is also a very talented and accomplished tennis player and she's mentioned that he has one of the best serves she's ever seen. I know, I know, pickleball is absolutely not tennis, but just to give y'all some insight into why he's actually pretty good.
Nothing like walking onto the pickleball court and seeing your opponent with the 9ft wingspan
No a problem, keep very soft dinks, make the tall guy have to bend their knees at the kitchen line and you will win.
9ft is closer to his standing reach, not his wingspan.
@@RedBurritoDude thx, doc
You can see what basketball did to his knees holy shit
Has he ever had good lateral movement? He also has been out of ball for a while now
@@theveryaverageNo, but he’s had multiple knee surgeries. Most big men have constant knee issues in later years.
Yea imagine him flying then tryin to get up… lol
Can barely move. Sad

😂😂 Charles is hilarious & real.

No it didnt stfu weirdo
He's too tall for this game. He should consider tennis instead.

Dirk's first sport was tennis.

It can happen when you single-handedly carry a team to a championship
Dirk has always moved like that
Atleast pickle ball he doesn’t have to take many steps cause his wingspan is so big lol😂
It was probably the weight of single handedly carrying the Dallas Mavericks for 20 years straight.
Looking like Frankenstein playing Pickleball out there! Dang, his knees are nonexistent
They don't call it the hardwood for nothing. Knees were donated on that finals run.
I still love watching his highlights from that charity football match he played in a while back. Absolutely hilarious

First thing I noticed as well.

It’s not his knees it’s his left ankle/foot. It’s much larger than right and he doesn’t want to put pressure there. You can tell
You're right I see that. He is avoiding left ankle pressure and impact
