Thank you so much you not only play really good but have way, probably that "zen" way to teach.I am following now many of your videos. Thanks a lot.I am writing music myself and wanted very much to add a strumming instrument to my songs, and I decided to be the ukulele! So,you are indeed big help for me! Blessings
Just found your site after taking a year and 1/2 off....my Uke was stolen and I didn't play until I received a very sweet one for Christmas and I was so pleased to see and hear your vids....I am loving your presence and your presents. Thanks You. All the best for this new year. Digging the grooves!
I stumbled upon this channel looking for Jazz UKE INFO. As a 50 year jazz player I can say: Excellent teacher. Patient, Positive attitude, Theory is right on but never gos over your head. First time I watched this I didnt even have my UKE with me. Peaceful Dude. Inspiring. I really wiish Id learned theory from him when I was a student.. Great Job.
Wow… Thanks so much for your kind comment Chas. I hope you share the video with anyone you think is interested… I'll be offering some more jazz tutorials and an online course in the subject this year. Play on! 🎶🤙
Dude... You're awesome. I've watched a few different videos of different people, and everyone has a different way of learning and teaching, and that's okay, but this is perfect for me. I paused the video right as you're like staring at the chord you just plucked with a look of amazement, and I began to just play the chord over and over... I've never really played ukulele before, but I do know how to play guitar and piano. As soon as I plucked the G, I realized it sounded good with the c, and then started messing with the blues scale I'd just learned, and mixing it all together... Then I came back and you were like now play it like zen or something, and like I started slowly plucking each string and focusing on it, feeling the vibration of each string while held in g chord. It made something click in my brain. Idk how to explain it, but I'm starting to be able to relate it to guitar and piano more and am excited to play now. I'm actually almost able to play a whole song now. I just need to learn a few more chords, practice and memorize them, and then I'll start learning easy song progressions. I like old school rock songs. For some reason Beauty School Dropout by Frankie Avalon popped into my head when I woke up this morning, and then I started listening to Del Shannon, The Penguins, Frank J. Wilson and the Cavaliers, Ritchie Valens, and stuff like that. With a new instrument, it will be easier for me to play chord progressions and sing for fun. I keep getting frustrated because the instrument is so tiny, and I'm used to guitar. So my fingers want to jam, and my brain is ready, but my knowledge is lacking and I keep wanting to give up lol... But, I know if I keep pushing and practicing, with a chill attitude, deep breaths, I can eventually play ukulele much better than I am now. I like to play guitar like a sitar. I developed a weird way to play over many years, and it feel so natural to me now, that this is outside of my comfort zone. I'm autistic and also in chronic pain and out of my pain medication right now, so that is also attributing to the irritation. I'm going to the doctor today. When I get back I'm going to watch like everything on your channel! Thanks for your channel :)
Because the ukulele is a high pitch instrument, particularly the soprano and concert sizes, adding 2nds (9th), 4ths (11ths), 6ths (13ths), and/or 7ths to chords in "reentrant tuning" creates semi-tone and whole-tone dissonances that can sound quite beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Haven't been on YT for a long while, getting reinstated was a bit of a chore, I'll try to keep things more up to date. Have an abiding passion for Great American Songbook material. Looking forward to learning with you. Ukulele, 4 strings, 4 fingers coincidence, I think not. I find having the lyrics and chords displayed in the traditional manner the easiest way to put the perfect rhythm into the melodies, making the changes appropriately.
Well done, Stu ! I am an old codger who has recently taken up trying to play the ukulele and this is the type of instruction I was hoping to find online. Thank you!
hey! im writing a song about a frog and a slug, no i wont explain why, and when you played the c b9 13 i audibly gasped! its a perfect note for the song! ty

just seeing this vid now,, that chord makes me feel like a sort of calm intensity,, odd sound but pretty too.. love the comment below by Shan Bentz, Bob Ross of Ukulele,, PERFECT! :)
@@UkuleleZen Already subscribed! Enjoy your spirit and great lessons. I play (learning to play) the baritone ukulele but just play in the wrong key what you teach. Soon I'll start playing the correct chords in the baritone shapes so I can play along. Keep up the good work.
Gypsy Jazz for uke, absolutely ! How about starting with something slow like J' Attendrai (Au Revoir) ? I can't seem to find a music sheet with lyrics for Nuages, another slow, beautiful song.
My mood seems to change with more frequent repetition. At first, the same three chord sequence was a bit maudlin, but then became a little kicky. The G7 style note is such a harmonic sound.
Thanks for hanging out with this video lesson! The last chord F can be played in a colorful two fingered way 5500...it's a super colorful Fmaj7 chords! Please subscribe & ring the notification bell to keep in the loop of my upcoming videos :) Play on....
Hey, cheers from a geezerette....whoa.. I haven't lain hands on a uke since YWCA camp, when I was a teenager. (Wanna do the math, bro? I am now 72)..And retired to New Orleans, which is a bastion of hipness...so I am revisiting the uke after more than fifty years. The jazz thing is intriguing, man...

Yessss! I love it, I an Zenjoying this these two finger beauties! Hey here's a cool a cool ending you can play a Dsus chord with two fingers and resolve it with a D chord. I also discovered you can slide that three finger D chord shape up to the 5 , 7 and 9th frets back to the 2 fret which is a simple but beautiful D chord to end the G9 /13? C9/13 F?
