Honestly, Nintendo know that Wind Waker and Twilight princess are their Aces and Kings (amongst other games they have that are considered gold standard) and so they are just holding those cards till the moment is right because they know it will sell well :)

Just like Switch 2. Every singe year we had Switch 2 rumors and every single time it was nothing but revisions. A year after Oled the leakers quited down for a year or so and then blew up again.
I played through a lot of 3D zeldas lately, and I found Windwaker on the gamecube to be a bit frustrating despite having a beautiful timeless art-style. I found out after the fact that the Wii U version adds a lot of QoL features like the fast sail, a better pictograph system, modified Triforce quest, etc. That being said, I don't want to buy a wii U just to play Wind Waker HD so it would be a big help if they re-release that version as a port to Switch!
Yeah that's the same boat I'm in I'm in, I played it on the GameCube when I was younger and never got a chance to play Twilight Princess. But like you I don't want to buy an entire Wii U just to play 2 games

Twlight princess HD released on the last year of the WII U life cycle. As dire as it may seem it’s most likely coming next in line for Zelda. Switch is about to end within a year and that’s when it will release. I speculate it’s going to be a remaster. It makes sense and remasters and remakes usually come at the end of Nintendos consoles life cycle as they roll out the next generation
The WiiU remasters of both Windwaker and Twilight are the best ways to play both those games, so I'd say that's where the re-releases are. But it has been a while and WiiU was a poorly sold console, so both those remasters definitely need to come to the Switch so more players can experience them. The problem is that those remasters used the WiiU tablet really well and I guess we can't get that functionality back. Personally I agree with the final theory at 6:22 - they're probably going to hold off for the Switch's successor, it will have more processing power and storage as well.
@@mrsnulch I figure if they do come at all, they'll probably have to work around the Wii U touchpad in a similar fashion to the way they did on the port of Pikmin 3
I have a feeling they are saving them to pad out the release schedule of the Switch's successor. Considering Tears of the Kingdom released relatively recently, there likely won't be a new 3D Zelda for a good while so saving these two for the next system could be good hold overs until the next major Zelda release.

No, I think these can be cheap way to support the current switch after the successor. I would say even the thing got in Feb is more effort than that. They are putting these super lazy port to switch players to make sure the switch is a good enough save net. Maybe even other Wii/wii u port can do like galaxy 2, triple deluxe etc.
Porting from the Gamecube/Wii U architecture to the Switch architecture is pretty difficult. Switch games have variable resolutions based on whether you play docked or handheld. The older games architecture don't support variable resolution, so they have to be partially rewritten on the backend. That being said, YOU'RE SWIMMING IN MONEY NINTENDO! GIVE US THE DAMN PORTS! Lol

I hate to say it, but it seems like Nintendo over time has been more and more grubby with their older titles. Gone are the days of Virtual Console where you could pay a few dollars and just own an older title outright, it's either behind a paid subscription to retain access or just sold at the price of a brand new game.
I've pretty much been waiting for these ports to come out so i can sell my Wii U. Like these are the last Wii U games I have that havent already been ported over.

This was a great video. I really think that they will eventually release when Switch 2 releases. I was shocked they weren't revealed in the June Direct. Windwaker is the only 3D Zelda I have not played yet and I really want it to release
Back when I had my Wii U, I used to play Wind Waker HD but not Twilight Princess HD as I needed to update my Wii U but I didn't have internet at the time. Hopefully that opportunity will arise someday via the Switch.
I heard the reason they don't re-release the HD versions on the Switch is simply because of their use in the development of Breath of the Wild. Wind Waker HD was done to test the new lighting engine and using the touch screen to organize items, while Twilight Princess HD was done primarily for Wolf Link amiibo support (as Wolf Link became the inspiration for the wolves in Breath of the Wild, and the team wanted a wolf companion for Link) as well as a 2nd buffer between Breath of the Wild's proper announcement (when they announced the title's proper name) and release. This is apparently the same reason why Skyward Sword HD was done: it was to help as a buffer for Tears of the Kingdom, get the team ideas for more Sky Islands (many of which had to be scrapped apparently), and also because it had been the only 3D Console Zelda at the time that didn't have a re-release. When you look back at the statements made when these games came out, through various interviews and such, it paints a picture that they were used more for that purpose. And because of that, perhaps, they see no need to re-release games that have already been re-released. We haven't seen Ocarina and Majora's Mask released in HD yet simply because Nintendo knows that they've already re-released those games on the 3DS. It's odd, considering many people point out that it's literal free money for them to port those two Zelda games onto the Switch, yet they're not on the system. Especially considering Nintendo is often criticized for being greedy. So perhaps this is less of a greed money grubbing decision and more an artistic? one.
Honestly, I think that's pretty plausible. Some part of me will always hope that we still get them on a console with a higher user base especially since it's been over 10 years since Wind Waker was on Wii U and nearly 10 years for Twilight Princess. That said I think that's pretty concise reasoning, it makes a lot of sense.

That said, a ton of the time, it's always dependent on the perception of the game. Many people would shell out $60 for WWHD and TPHD again. But Skyward Sword? _The WORST 3D ZELDA_ according to critics, or _Kirby,_ a *lesser* franchise that doesn't deserve attention according to people like Arlo (not like the _great_ Metroid franchise) and others? Bah, who cares if the remake added things, it should sell for $20 if that.

I hope they port the HD remake! I play TP at least once a year, and it's such a pain to set up my Wii U every time. I am worried, however, that it'll be released as a special edition version with the new Switch. I don't usually buy collector's editions, but this is one I'm going to really want. I even got the Wii U stuff. Ah... my wallet ;-;
If they can recreate how they made Toon Link look in Smash Ultimate, I wouldn't object. Toon Link looked great, and definitely looked more aggressive in Smash Ultimate.

Yeah, that's the thing about rumors and leakers. They get some stuff right and people feel confident in their info, but something like this happens and you begin to wonder if they just had lucky guesses. I'm still hopeful that we'll get these re-re-released at some point, but I'm not holding my breath

Occam's razor is your answer; They've JUST been ported to the WiiU so there's literally no reason to port them again since they aren't exclusives to begin with, and they most certainly are far from unobtainable like WW and TP used to be on the gamecube; $15 to $35 each, plus a WiiU which also barely cost more than a $100... why should they waste time, resources and a full team on it? Most WiiU game ported to the Switch also tend to lose their actual upgraded features, such as the lost of the second screen to have the menus in the case of WW, which was the major update(well, the new sail also was but just like OOT3D, not having to pause to switch shit up was damn crazy). There little to no reason to actually rerelease them yet again.
I dont think they will ever make a gamecube nso, at least not yet, because file sizes are just WAYYY too big. The wind waker and twilight princess are both 1 whole gigabyte of space, which is a lot.

If they wait until the next system then they should do some sort of 3 in one with windwaker twilight princess and ocarina of time (Majoras Mask if they're feeling generous, but probably not considering it's nintendo) they should all be hd versions or maybe even a complete remake for oot. If they try and sell them separately for 60 dollars then just hack your wii and play them that way.
I actually believe they are for the switch. They have to at least give some support to the switch like the 3DS, a save net in case the switch successor flopped. These port seems low budget enough to do the job. I think the majority of game after launch like the big Kirby and Mario are exclusive and locked away.(avoid PS/Xbox situation and full commitment seems more fit for Nintendo compared to half-baked gen like them). Perfect for throwing us a bone in Holiday 2025 for switch player or something to pad out in case of delays

I’m really hoping the carts from OG switch fit the switch 2… or I most likely won’t buy a switch 2 for quite some time. I have quite the back log of games to finish so there’s no need to pay money for the successor lol
Its not even nostalgia for me, I never got to play twilight princess or wind waker So Id like a port so I can experience them for the first time Unless i magically find a gamecube game that doesnt cost a lot these days for old hardware
I played Wind Waker when I was a kid, but I never got to try Twilight Princess either. I'm finally seeing used GameCubes for less than 200 but it's still a lot, and GameCube games aren't cheap generally either sadly
@@dogface701 yeah, I bought a used purple gamecube that was well loved off of Facebook market place Had to keep a guy in my dm's updating me for a while till he was able to send it , 2 controller, memory card And that was roughly around $100 or $120 bucks Maybe a little less? But that's less expensive than a single popular gamecube game like windwaker sometimes . It is what it is of course, but it's highly unfortunate situation there isn't like play copies vs collectible ones because I wouldn't want a sealed one or anything just one to play, maybe I can find a single disc and get a recreation cover or something.

Well Twilight Princess didn't have all that much motion control it was mostly the crossbow portion, it was a dual release on the GameCube and the Wii so generally when they do a port of that game they use the GameCube release. Either way though I just want to play it on my Switch lol
i think Nintendo considers the Switch to be a handheld only and if we look at the history of Nintendo and handheld they continue to support there only handhelds when the new ones launch when they have back compat. WW and TP are going to be "Switch+" games. games that work on the switch but has higher res etc. on the switch 2. this way they can bulk out the switch line of games for little money to keep it alive while they shift towards switch 2 titles. but i am also expecting Nintendo do one more revision of the switch, a GBA micro if you so wish. if you shrink the switch chip down to a modern note it would sip power add a modern battery and a smaller screen and you can get away with a silly cheap and tiny system with a huge line up of games.

Twilight Princess is literally the next one being ported to the Switch right after Echoes of Wisdom. Many leakers have said that the game exists and that they don't know why Nintendo hasn't released it yet. So I think TP is the next one to arrive to the Switch. Not to mention there's a game Nintendo has been working on with the codename "Edward" which is the name of the main character in the Twilight Saga. 🤭💛

It's a little different with Nintendo because Nintendo consoles are not backwards compatible the only Wii game I ever played was Twilight princess I cannot put that Wii disc in my switch. Nor can I put a Wii u cartridge in.
In GTA V's case, Rockstar could have just done a next-gen patch for the PS4/Xbox One version, since both the Series S/X and PS5 are backwards compatible. Or at least offered a free upgrade for those who already owned the game.
Wrong. Twilight Princess and Wind Waker are not the only two 3d Zelda games we are missing on Switch. We are missing Triforce Heroes, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, A Link Between Worlds, Ocarina of Time 3d, Majora's Mask 3d,
It's kinda hard to port granted that were made for dual screen consoles for single screen systems. Maybe the WiiU would have been the prefect system for DS and 3DS ports of those games instead, but being realistic, no one thinks about those games when talking about Switch ports, because they would need to be remakes from the ground up.

TTYD on Switch is just another remaster, not a remake. It, like Metroid Prime and Pikmin 1-2 you brought up, uses nearly the entire game code from the Gamecube game. There's nothing in TTYD Switch to call it a remake; it's just updated assets and 2 new boss fights, and literally everything else down to attacks, enemies, text, badges, and content is ripped and updated from the Gamecube code. C'mon dude, people figured this out 3 months ago.

Yes, there was a remaster of each of those games on the Wii U. I think a lot of the speculation that they were also coming to the Switch came from just how poorly the Wii U did and the fact that Nintendo ported a lot of Wii U games onto the Switch. With how large the Switch's install base is it would just make sense to release them there as well
And what about a Star Fox Adventure, Star Fox Assault, F-Zero GX and Kid Icarus Uprising Remastered since they never got any port yet? Because what the point to do another port for Twilight Princess seriously? The game was born on the Gamecube, then got a Wii port and then a HD Wii U port and now it ask for another port on the Switch. L take 😂😂😂 the Wii u sold poorly and was a garbage system. They've ported all the other games because Nintendo and the fans know there's good content for it that people never got a chance to play. And for something like Zelda, it's easy money. Quite literally these 2 games and original Mario maker are the only reason I still have a Wii u, and I don't want to haul it out just to play Zelda.
Oh, and not to mention Wii u online is gone so only legit way to get them is physical copies, which twilight princess goes for about 100 so again, L take.

That's fair, the renting comment was more aimed at the NSO specifically just because the games on there aren't even digitally owned by us. That said, with the way companies like Ubisoft have been talking about how they want to handle digital I do prefer to have physical copies

Metroid prime remastered is the best looking game on switch and that’s a definitive edition for sure. The Wii U released Twlight princess HD towards the end of its life cycle, it’s definitely possible to release in the switches cycle

We already got them on the Wii U and they were overrated compared to Ocarina and Majora's mask, we need remakes of those before another remake of the mediocre games.

I hate to say it, but it seems like Nintendo over time has been more and more grubby with their older titles. Gone are the days of Virtual Console where you could pay a few dollars and just own an older title outright, it's either behind a paid subscription to retain access or just sold at the price of a brand new game.
I've pretty much been waiting for these ports to come out so i can sell my Wii U. Like these are the last Wii U games I have that havent already been ported over.

This was a great video. I really think that they will eventually release when Switch 2 releases. I was shocked they weren't revealed in the June Direct. Windwaker is the only 3D Zelda I have not played yet and I really want it to release

Back when I had my Wii U, I used to play Wind Waker HD but not Twilight Princess HD as I needed to update my Wii U but I didn't have internet at the time. Hopefully that opportunity will arise someday via the Switch.

I heard the reason they don't re-release the HD versions on the Switch is simply because of their use in the development of Breath of the Wild.
Wind Waker HD was done to test the new lighting engine and using the touch screen to organize items, while Twilight Princess HD was done primarily for Wolf Link amiibo support (as Wolf Link became the inspiration for the wolves in Breath of the Wild, and the team wanted a wolf companion for Link) as well as a 2nd buffer between Breath of the Wild's proper announcement (when they announced the title's proper name) and release.
This is apparently the same reason why Skyward Sword HD was done: it was to help as a buffer for Tears of the Kingdom, get the team ideas for more Sky Islands (many of which had to be scrapped apparently), and also because it had been the only 3D Console Zelda at the time that didn't have a re-release.
When you look back at the statements made when these games came out, through various interviews and such, it paints a picture that they were used more for that purpose.
And because of that, perhaps, they see no need to re-release games that have already been re-released. We haven't seen Ocarina and Majora's Mask released in HD yet simply because Nintendo knows that they've already re-released those games on the 3DS.
It's odd, considering many people point out that it's literal free money for them to port those two Zelda games onto the Switch, yet they're not on the system. Especially considering Nintendo is often criticized for being greedy.
So perhaps this is less of a greed money grubbing decision and more an artistic? one.
Honestly, I think that's pretty plausible. Some part of me will always hope that we still get them on a console with a higher user base especially since it's been over 10 years since Wind Waker was on Wii U and nearly 10 years for Twilight Princess. That said I think that's pretty concise reasoning, it makes a lot of sense.

That said, a ton of the time, it's always dependent on the perception of the game.
Many people would shell out $60 for WWHD and TPHD again. But Skyward Sword? _The WORST 3D ZELDA_ according to critics, or _Kirby,_ a *lesser* franchise that doesn't deserve attention according to people like Arlo (not like the _great_ Metroid franchise) and others? Bah, who cares if the remake added things, it should sell for $20 if that.
Yeah fan perception and the like is a fickle thing. If there's one thing that I think rings true it's that Nintendo is going to do whatever they decide they want to do and we're just kind of along for the ride

I hope they port the HD remake! I play TP at least once a year, and it's such a pain to set up my Wii U every time. I am worried, however, that it'll be released as a special edition version with the new Switch. I don't usually buy collector's editions, but this is one I'm going to really want. I even got the Wii U stuff. Ah... my wallet ;-;

Yeah, that's the thing about rumors and leakers. They get some stuff right and people feel confident in their info, but something like this happens and you begin to wonder if they just had lucky guesses. I'm still hopeful that we'll get these re-re-released at some point, but I'm not holding my breath

Occam's razor is your answer; They've JUST been ported to the WiiU so there's literally no reason to port them again since they aren't exclusives to begin with, and they most certainly are far from unobtainable like WW and TP used to be on the gamecube; $15 to $35 each, plus a WiiU which also barely cost more than a $100... why should they waste time, resources and a full team on it?
Most WiiU game ported to the Switch also tend to lose their actual upgraded features, such as the lost of the second screen to have the menus in the case of WW, which was the major update(well, the new sail also was but just like OOT3D, not having to pause to switch shit up was damn crazy).
There little to no reason to actually rerelease them yet again.

If they wait until the next system then they should do some sort of 3 in one with windwaker twilight princess and ocarina of time (Majoras Mask if they're feeling generous, but probably not considering it's nintendo) they should all be hd versions or maybe even a complete remake for oot. If they try and sell them separately for 60 dollars then just hack your wii and play them that way.
I actually believe they are for the switch. They have to at least give some support to the switch like the 3DS, a save net in case the switch successor flopped. These port seems low budget enough to do the job. I think the majority of game after launch like the big Kirby and Mario are exclusive and locked away.(avoid PS/Xbox situation and full commitment seems more fit for Nintendo compared to half-baked gen like them). Perfect for throwing us a bone in Holiday 2025 for switch player or something to pad out in case of delays
I don't think Nintendo wants to devalue Zelda like Sonic and Mega Man have been for example with every game having a million ports/rereleases

I played Wind Waker when I was a kid, but I never got to try Twilight Princess either. I'm finally seeing used GameCubes for less than 200 but it's still a lot, and GameCube games aren't cheap generally either sadly

Well Twilight Princess didn't have all that much motion control it was mostly the crossbow portion, it was a dual release on the GameCube and the Wii so generally when they do a port of that game they use the GameCube release. Either way though I just want to play it on my Switch lol
i think Nintendo considers the Switch to be a handheld only and if we look at the history of Nintendo and handheld they continue to support there only handhelds when the new ones launch when they have back compat. WW and TP are going to be "Switch+" games. games that work on the switch but has higher res etc. on the switch 2. this way they can bulk out the switch line of games for little money to keep it alive while they shift towards switch 2 titles.
but i am also expecting Nintendo do one more revision of the switch, a GBA micro if you so wish. if you shrink the switch chip down to a modern note it would sip power add a modern battery and a smaller screen and you can get away with a silly cheap and tiny system with a huge line up of games.

Twilight Princess is literally the next one being ported to the Switch right after Echoes of Wisdom. Many leakers have said that the game exists and that they don't know why Nintendo hasn't released it yet. So I think TP is the next one to arrive to the Switch. Not to mention there's a game Nintendo has been working on with the codename "Edward" which is the name of the main character in the Twilight Saga. 🤭💛

It's a little different with Nintendo because Nintendo consoles are not backwards compatible the only Wii game I ever played was Twilight princess I cannot put that Wii disc in my switch. Nor can I put a Wii u cartridge in.
In GTA V's case, Rockstar could have just done a next-gen patch for the PS4/Xbox One version, since both the Series S/X and PS5 are backwards compatible. Or at least offered a free upgrade for those who already owned the game.
That last release was over 10 years ago on a console which sold poorly. Nintendo generations are way longer than most other consoles brands

It's kinda hard to port granted that were made for dual screen consoles for single screen systems. Maybe the WiiU would have been the prefect system for DS and 3DS ports of those games instead, but being realistic, no one thinks about those games when talking about Switch ports, because they would need to be remakes from the ground up.

TTYD on Switch is just another remaster, not a remake. It, like Metroid Prime and Pikmin 1-2 you brought up, uses nearly the entire game code from the Gamecube game. There's nothing in TTYD Switch to call it a remake; it's just updated assets and 2 new boss fights, and literally everything else down to attacks, enemies, text, badges, and content is ripped and updated from the Gamecube code. C'mon dude, people figured this out 3 months ago.

Yes, there was a remaster of each of those games on the Wii U. I think a lot of the speculation that they were also coming to the Switch came from just how poorly the Wii U did and the fact that Nintendo ported a lot of Wii U games onto the Switch. With how large the Switch's install base is it would just make sense to release them there as well

The game was born on the Gamecube, then got a Wii port and then a HD Wii U port and now it ask for another port on the Switch. That's fair, the renting comment was more aimed at the NSO specifically just because the games on there aren't even digitally owned by us. That said, with the way companies like Ubisoft have been talking about how they want to handle digital I do prefer to have physical copies

Metroid prime remastered is the best looking game on switch and that’s a definitive edition for sure. The Wii U released Twlight princess HD towards the end of its life cycle, it’s definitely possible to release in the switches cycle
