Just joined, I was introduced to waterfowl hunting at the age of 12, been hooked on it ever since! If it flies it dies! I’ll be watching from Southwest Idaho!
Love it!!! Love it!!! Anything you guys can bring bring it. Love it all. Been watching your other channel for a long long time don't see any reason why this is going to be any less. The whole group rocks. God bless stay safe.
When you hunt cacks, you can't usually hunt the same as honkers. Most guys that I see strike out use honker tactics. Don't expect to have them land or feet down. Use cackler calls. Use large shot because sometime the shooting is long range if you are not on the X field. Try as best you can to have minimal cover. Close to trees or even brush lines will cause them to avoid you. Sometimes we put decoys out 70yds to ease their minds and take them on the swing. Many times they just fly by to take a look. Learn to shoot them out to 60yds or some days you get nothing. There no free looks. They usually cruise at about 90 yds. We range finder them as they fly over. BBB patterns great in a 12ga. Mod choke. BBB is where serious energy starts. Ts and TT in a 10ga. If you have never used big shot, you will be pleasantly surprised how well it works. 2s are not big shot. They lose energy too fast. A shot gun is a way to deliver energy at a distance. Big shot body kills, small shot guys rely on wing or head/neck hits, and they fly off with steel just under the skin. When asked how we shoot so many cacks we say Calling and cannons. We mostly use sillouette decoys made from political signs. Two out of every sign, these are plastic yard signs. Put a piece of hard wire into the corrugations. One of our wheeled carts hold 250 decoys. We have 2 carts. We don't always use both. Hope this helps put a few cacklers in the bag. Good luck!
Glad to see you guys doing a waterfowl channel. You’ve always your content fun and exciting to watch. Looking forward to same with this new channel. “Rents due” that was awesome.
Aspiring waterfowler here with a question for you all with some more experience. Pause at 4:07 and take note of his “necklace” that looks like a bunch of metal cylinders. I’ve seen a few videos with hunters wearing something similar and I’m just wondering if someone can tell me what it is. I know it’s a “100-level question” but I don’t come from a family of hunters and it’s all new territory for me. Thanks!
Right ON !!! Shoot lots of those chickens down here in Brownsmede....I have to ask, what cackler call's were you fella's working, I have a BC Minima and a hand made call from a friend....It's pretty "touchy." And We have full bodies...Dave Smiths, some Avery's, and I have never used silo socks or for geese....Any flaring ??? Love the local waterfowling thanks !!!
Kody and Eric are running our new prototype cackler call that will hit the market shortly, Noah has been using a BC minima. And our friend Andy was running the basin calls cackler. Thanks!
The divebombs have been a great piece for the toolbox. We love expanding tactics/knowledge and chasing them new and different ways. The set up time and the footprint of silos and socks is pretty hard to beat!
Great video! The early 90s cackler killing was a big no no. Didn’t hunt waterfowl for many years till the boys got older. Took me a few hunts to get used to shooting cacklers. 🤣🤣
Thats the difference between refuge birds and migration flocks. Once they get to around Salem area they start to keg up in the Finley, Fern Ridge and Ankeny areas and get onto bigger flocks. They roost up in those refuges overnight and then fly out in massive tornado clouds. I used to hunt geese alot and one morning opener I got a 1 minute limit on caks. About a flock of 250-300 birds tornado- in, I took 4 shots=4 birds. It was one minute after shooting hours. I just laid there in my layout and deked geese for an hour afterward. Too bad I was hunting by myself that morning.
Correct. It’s so interesting the difference in behavior they display just 50-90 miles down the road. We have some hunts from those southern flocks that will hit the channel soon👍
Great hunt would like to see all the cackles lined up after the hunt. It’s funny we shoot the big resident Canada’s 14 or 15 lb’s and them cackles so small mallard size little stubby bills I have shot a few in my years of hunting but never seen them like that out hunting! It seemed like just kind of pass shooting on this video ? Don’t seem like any were working over decoys ? Maybe no wind , fog had something to do with it ?
Just want to see a channel that does a lot of waterfowl hunting. There are places all over this great country, that have great amounts of birds to hunt. Go out there And shoot some them
