I think the G2 is a substantial improvement over Old Country's previous models. But don't say that to the Gen 1 crowd because it's like telling them they have ugly children. Though I wish the smoke collector extended the full width of the grate, the collector is a huge improvement, as is the removable deflector. I think the best setup is no coal bed grate, no deflector, and no tuning plate. Forget the top rack because the prime parabolic top-down flow of heat and smoke renders the top rack unusable. And to the naysayers who argue that an insulated firebox is a liability instead of an asset, I say they must have never tried to cook in freezing temperatures and high winds. Those conditions will render the tin can pellet grills useless and will vindicate the G2. And remember, when it comes to an insulated firebox, less wood is more. Infernos are not necessary. Spare the wood and your billfold.
Have you looked at the Old Cpuntry Gravity Smoker? Unlike the MasterBuilt and CharGriller there's no fan or electronic controller - nor any need for them. It looks good, though it is a bit pricey.
Finally Old Country stepped up the game. This looks like a good quality build.
Really solid review guys. Looks like a really nice offset for the money.
Let's GOOO!

Came across one of these for 1600 bucks and was so bummed I didn't have room to snag it on my road trip.
Please stop calling it a grill. I'm cringing every time you say it bro
