For my property and life, “5 gallon” is enough but I LOVE daydreaming about the bigger opportunities. Thanks for this review - I smile, vicariously, through your journey.
We have a gas gator with a lift for the end (AND seats 4!) My husband did something to quiet the muffler noise because, I agree it was LOUD! We only have less than an acre but I love helping family and friends with their yard work/projects.
We currently have a 6500 sq ft lot in town, but are considering buying my husbands original family homestead that is 44 acres, with about 20 acres of farmable land. But fear of failure is the death of progress creativity and innovation
Are you familiar with 'Roots and Refuge' channel on RUclips? Wonderful couple with a homestead in Arkansas. Lots of good advice and encouragement. Good luck.
@@ritasicari7518 YES! I love their channel. Such a laid back cool family. I also like the channel You Can’t Eat the Grass, which is something I’ve said for years. I am a serious re- purposer so, in addition to my steel garden wagon, I saved the bucket from a worn out 5 gal shop vac ( with wheels)- smooth surfaces only- the chassis from my push mower with a pad mounted on top, and a 50 gal vinyl trash can on wheels. The last one is a work horse for mulch, firewood, leaves and large shrub trimmings.
We have a big yard and this topic is very important to us. Hauling things around in a safe manner is crucial. Also storage like a nice shed is also important to keep equipment in good condition.
Everytime I use the pop up bag or the large gorilla cart, I am so glad for the purchases. They more than paid for themselves quickly. We have a long acre, and it's a long way back to the burn pile.
I found that living on 1 acre for me was buying a golf cart, I can lift the seat in back and it makes a great place for garden clippings and then I can just pull it off the tarp and into my mulch pile.
Thank you for all the wonderful information. I love each and every video you and Arron put together. God has really given you a gift and I am thankful that you share it with all of us 🌺❤️
My sister in law was just asking me what I wanted for Christmas and then like magic this video came up on my phone! I love when you and Aaron talk about tools, supplies and equipment you like using! It's so much better than just buying something that might work in my garden. Thank you for all you do❣ Stay happy and healthy and have a Merry Christmas.
We have been on a similar journey from buckets to a Gator. This spring my husband bought me a Gator. It is the stripped down gas version but I love it. I had a spinal fusion 3 years ago and it has made my life so much easier. We have an acre and have used it a lot. It makes hauling debris, plants, supplies, etc... so much easier.
I bought the Gardener's Supply All Terrain Landscaper's Wagon. I have a half acre yard and this is works well. Two large Tub Trugs fit perfectly. The huge tires roll easily and the mesh is easy to hose off.
Laura, i also like gardeners supply garden hods that have "legs" on them that fold up...they also have holes in em for washing vegs., come in 3 sizes...check em out!
I have those exact ones too...small and large I think...and absolutely love them. The wooden ones are so pretty but I’d think the plastic ones may hold up to hosing off better in the long run. The folding legs are so nice too. They put those on sale occasionally.
If I have learned one thing from Laura it’s that you need to have the right tools in the garden. I now have a battery powered blower and hedge trimmer and a pair of Felco 2s!!
Gret video, very interesting. I wouldn't want to go to various stores and compare all of the items you discussed. Your experience with these items is the best guide for us! Thank you!
Love, love, love my Gorilla Cart! I have the 4 cu. ft. that I use daily on my 2 acres. I bought it after I saw the video you did on Gorilla Carts. Way less painful than using a wheelbarrow! One thing for people to keep in mind when selecting a size--when really full/heavy, I have had it roll and bump into me and almost knock me over (I'm only 5'3"). No big deal with the 4 cu. ft., but with the larger size if you have hilly property, you may want to consider your strength and size in case a full Gorilla Cart decides to roll towards you while you are working. It would be nice if they had brakes. Nonetheless, every gardener needs one! I might pick up a pop-up bag, leaf tarp, and the flower caddy after watching this video! Thanks for the great information!
I have a Carts Vermont, medium cart which I love. It has hauled dirt, rocks, plants, wood etc. One feature I really like is the fact I can load a heavy rock or slab of cement onto the end as the cart is on its front and then pull the handle down and the heavy thing is now IN my cart. It has allowed me to move things I can not pick up. This one has lasted 10 years and is going strong. I consider it essential to having a yard.
Love all these Funny! My honey found a cart like yours and bought it and when it came in I asked him when did you start watchin laura... 🤪❤ I love our cart, it has saved our backs many time, well worth the money. Also need one of those pop up bags.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention trugs. I love these. We live on a farm and I have a large garden area. Our Ranger (similar to a gator) is used a lot. We like our skid steer better than our tractors. It’s easier for me to handle. We have forks, a tree spade, 3 different kinds of buckets. We use it to turn the compost as I compost on a large scale. The ten foot bucket is great for moving snow and filling with garden cleanup. It’s nice to have different options for different jobs.
What a neat look back on history! While this is fairly irrelevant to me right now (I'm still at bucket stage!), I still enjoy listening to you talk and share so much!! Such a wealth of joy and wisdom!
I got the leaf tarp from Dewitt after watching the lavender episode. Love love that tarp. Much stronger than a regular tarp and handles are so worth it.
Thanks to you, I purchased quite a few things for my garden that I didn't know I needed. It sure has made life easier!!! It has upped my gardening game a whole bunch!!!
This was so helpful!! I’m realizing now that I should probably move from a bucket to something like a small cart. My gardening journey started from being inspired by you. I began with a small succulent and quickly grew my houseplant collection, then seed starting for a little raised bed and this past summer I finally had my first flower garden in the front of my house. I’m hooked! Next year will be my fourth year growing and I already can’t wait to plan my spring! Thanks for all you’ve done for people like me. 💕 I’ll never be able to thank you enough for literally growing my passion.
We are senior adults and are in the process of developing and building on a huge chunk of land. You always seem to be steps ahead of us with your projects. It is so helpful to see how you have handled these undertakings. This video has confirmed that many of the decisions we are making are good ones and have prevented us from some costly mistakes. Working around gravel is very new to us and your information on living and working with it is extremely helpful. Thank you for freely sharing details of everything you do and why you do it that way.
I bought two this fall (the 4 cubic foot dump cart and a fabric sided foldable Gorilla cart because I dont have room to store two regular carts) and its been a game changer! I wish I had it this spring when I put in 40 cubic feet of bagged soil. Its made buying bulk mulch and compost an option for me and I hope might save me some cost in the long run because of it.
This is really good info for any person who spends hrs gardenning. I liked that you gave good reasons for equipment being helpful or not. We know we get a lot of exercise in a season when we garden, but we also need to save our backs.
Regarding wheelbarrows, we have some very steep hills in our yard. We got an electric wheelbarrow to help make it easier to haul heavy loads up those hills. Dramatic improvement! My husband likes blue, lol, so we got this one from Amazon. (not sponsored) it was easy enough for me to put together, except the big cotter pins, which I asked him to bend for me. - - Landworks Wheelbarrow Utility Cart Electric Powered 24V DC 180W AGM Battery 330lbs (150kgs) Max Capacity Barrel Dump Material Debris Hauler
I bought one of the gorilla wagons after this video. Love it and it is so very easy to use. I even go through the interior of my home with it to haul plants to the other side of the house. It turns on a dime and so very easy to use. Thank you so much for pointing it out to everyone.
My go to is the Garden Glider ,I work alone and this handy item let's me move anything , bags of soil , potted trees, filled pots etc move across asphalt, grass, soil . The 🏡Garden Glider is also made very well and is holding up beautifully.
This was perfect timing. My husband was looking for a cart for his birthday, and it looks like we'll get the Gorilla Cart one that connects to the mower! So versatile.
I found this video very helpful on this topic. I myself had been trying to remember the thing that you and Aaron finally remembered for me and that is the 10 foot by 10 foot tarp with handles on all four sides. I couldn't remember it for the life of me. I have to order one in the morning as I have two small trees 🌲that will be taken out soon. One tree is dead but the other isn't and it's eight feet high by six feet wide on the top. Whew ........thanks as always for the beautiful work that you and Aaron put into your videos. Blessings 🙏❤️
I purchased the kangaroo soft bottom after watching one of your videos. I love it. Now I'm about to purchase the 30 gallon one. because after watching you since April my garden has greatly been enlarged. Thank you for all your helpful videos. Love your channel.
Removed my sides from my steel cart as well. I spent too much time initially taking them off and putting them back on. I don’t miss them now. I also use it frequently for hauling groceries from the car to the house. Time saver!..especially after big Costco hauls!
Have the Fiskars pop-up bag - had it for three years now. Hubby brought one strap when he 'jerked' the bag up off the ground to load it into the car to the compost dump...outside of that...it's holding up fantastic! I would HIGHLY recommend this for any gardener!!
Great vid! Appreciate that you presented this in terms of scale: townhouse to 5+ acres. Reminds me that there are gardening opportunities in small spaces too.
I just wanted to thank you for your honest reviews on the items you have had success using. I purchased a Hoselink after one of your past reviews and absolutely love it. I use it daily on our horse farm and LOVE it. It is a game changer for me. So thanks again, it is really helpful and appreciated. I see a gorilla cart in my future!
Excellent and very helpful video. Been using a poly cart with dump feature for several years and will never go back to a wheelbarrow. Other must haves are my Atlas gloves, felco pruners, hand spade, tub trugs, kangaroo pop up bag, and my old faithful the 5 gallon bucket. Many more tools but these items are in constant use.
Hi Laura and Aaron! This review of the different items you use for hauling things was very helpful, especially how you talked about what you started with up to what you use now. The DeWitt garden tarp was sold out on Amazon, but I found a smaller one that is approx. 5'x5' and it is the perfect size for me. Anything bigger would be too big. Anyway, it was a game changer when I pulled the plants out of our raised beds and flower pots. I'm so glad I got it and I'm kinda glad they didn't have the larger one because it would have been too big for me to handle. Thank you so much for sharing!
We have a Japanese mini truck with a dump bed. I love it for working around my yard! I use it for big weeding projects, leaves, cleaning out the chicken coop, moving dirt and mulch, carting chicken food and pine shavings. I can also use it to drive my new plants to their new spots as well.
Good morning. I purchased the pop up bag and I love it, you won’t be disappointed. To keep it clean, I line it with a Hefty 39 gallon trash bag so that I can just pull it out when full and pop it in the trash. I don’t have space for a debris heap like Laura and Aaron, and I’m sure my neighbors are grateful. Lol.
I am always on the lookout for things to use in my gardening work! I agree with you on the hard bottom pop ups! I do have a lot of the things you featured in this video! I really appreciate your truthfulness, your critics on items has helped me make the right choice for my needs! Since I Iive on a family farm, I do have access to large machinery but I do like to have my own smaller gardening equipment!🙂🚜🌿
I have an average sized yard and smallish garden areas and I LOVE my 5 gal bucket, I use it constantly. I just purchased the pop up bag at the end of the year this year and it was wonderful when I was emptying my pots at the end of the season. I'm sure it will get tons of use. We've used a regular ol' tarp for fall leaves for years and years.
Our gator was so useful when we had a 14 acre property, moving from a 1/4 acre place. We used it all the time for hauling and spreading mulch, etc. Ours was gas powered, though. And we purchased it used. Would definitely recommend one to anyone who has some acreage!
This was terrific advice. I use several 5 gallon pails as well. I took 2 of them and drilled holes in the bottom for weeding. I leave the pail right in the garden until it's full and if it rains I don't worry about it filling with water. Our gator is my favorite piece of equipment. My husband strongly suggested the windshield and roof which I'm so glad we got. It gives me a bit more protection when the weather isn't very nice. The only downfall is that the windshield can get a bit dirty and you have to be careful cleaning as it is plexiglass. I do not have doors on mine which would be a bother. We did get the electric dump too. Ours is motorized but I'm not sure the model (J. Deere) but it doesn't seem loud.
When we were looking at a "lawn tractor," for 5 acres, the dealer suggested a zero turn mower because it went so much faster and made mowing more fun, which means you want to do it, it also means when you hook a cart to it, that goes pretty fast too unless the load is heavy or wobbly.
This video came in just as I realized this morning that I´m way out of the bucket and collapsable bag thingy! Not that the size of my garden had changed over the time, but the way I do things in my garden, beacuse of YOU, LAURA! Thanks for all the inspiration over the years, they are much anticipated and highly appreciated! Best wishes, Hanni
Such a timely video. I was searching for the pop up containers yesterday to add to my Christmas and gave up because I couldn’t decide which one to choose. Now I know 😊.
Yes, I am one of those people who lugged around that darn John Deer trailers by hand😅. Thank you, Laura for doing this video! Husband and I are going to Home Depot tomorrow to pick up the medium sized Gorilla Trailer. Blessings to you and your family on your new arrival 💕
Hi Laura, We just purchased the 7 cubic foot Gorilla Cart. Have not put it together yet! So glad you did a review on this cart and gave it a thumbs up. Look forward to putting ours to lots of use.
So helpful! We have 1.18 acres and have a gator as well, but our yard is on a lake and wooded, which might sound ridiculous to have a big machine like this, however it’s a huge hill! I could never cart anything up to remove it without it! Also, the flat metal cart I would LOVE but without the sides I’d lose my entire load down the hill. Just thought I’d add another perspective. 😉
Thank you so much for this video it has been very helpful 😊 I'm not physically able to do the kind of gardening that I would like. However, you've shown me a few things I can use. Thank you 😊 I hope you're doing well Laura. God bless you all ❤ 🙏
Making my list for the new year! In my smaller garden I personally found a lot of value investing in a good quality hose reel cart. This way I don’t have to fight with the hoses or leave them in the beds. I have quick release connectors on every spigot, hose, and watering wand, and it makes watering SO MUCH EASIER. Tractor Supply makes a nice one and they are very good about returning products if you aren’t satisfied.
Great video on hauling. We used the five gallon buckets and wheel barrows until we saw the gorilla cart on your show. We have 3/4 an acre so we bought two. They are great on gravel and getting the heavy hauling done. We also ordered huge collapsible bags (3 ct) from Amazon. They were dark green with handles and heavy duty like Dewitt fabric, so it is perfect for leaf debris. Inexpensive compared to the Garden Supply $19 single collapsible. They can also work double duty to keep deer from eating my hydrangeas during the night. Like you, we have yet to find any planter dolly that can move huge heavy pots on gravel. Gorilla Carts are easy to find at the box stores and are reasonably priced, in case anyone wants to know. Keep up the great ideas and look forward to seeing all the changes and of course your baby girl. Coffee time❤️❤️
At minute 20:38, Laura is saying “We do get help in the garden” and the camera moves to show Benjamin trying to lift a pot with Laura - it was so sweet and hilarious! Laura - Great video as always! I love how you make it a point to recommend things that are easy to use, especially helpful because I am the same size as you😀.
Hey Laura It's nice to have found you did a video on all your equipment and vehicles. To do what you do I do not need a tractor or a gator because my place is to small .But if I had a place like yours I would need a vehicle or a tractor to do the stuff that you do.
My dad is an orchardist in Washington State, and we have had our gator for 25 years. It has done more work than you can possibly imagine every single day of those 25 years, at a commercial agriculture level. It truly is the best thing we've ever invested in and we would sell a kidney to buy another if we lost ours. Highly, highly recommend.
We just purchased the Gorilla steel mesh cart you have. We only have 1/4 acre lot but love the cart. Useful in cleaning up the lot (we just purchased this home) and for our mini fruit orchard and of course, vegetable and flower gardens next season. Glad you got the John Deere tractor.
I have used my wheelbarrow, which was purchased at Ace hardware in 1968, and about 20 years ago I bought a dolly from Harbor Freight. No room for more. We do have a dozen plastic garbage cans, they stack really well. Good for prunings and litter after clean up spring and fall.
Thank you thank you!! What a great and helpful video. Planning a purchase next spring and this video really helped in thinking through my needs and the best cart to meet those needs. You guys are the best.
I have a plastic 30 gal trash can and use a nursery can to fill with debris and dump into the trash can. But I have been thinking about the pop up bag. I also have my grandma's ancient wheelbarrow and have been considering a garden cart instead. It seems like with a cart you're carrying less of the weight. If you put 10 cubic yards of mulch in a wheelbarrow that's still you picking it up and pushing it up any slight inclines.
I love my metal cart and I agree with Laura that the sides are not needed. I never put them on. One thing I am considering buying is an attachment for a 5 gallon bucket...kind-of like a tool belt for a bucket🤣 where I can carry around tools, string, even fertilizers or products such as bug be gone or my fungicide so I don't have to go back to my shed for every little thing.
What a fun video, full of advice! We bought 10 acres this year and have been on a journey of turning it into pasture, home space, garden and a yard. We have horses so some of our grounds will be for them. We have been on some of the same journey with bringing in water and electric. We have a small tractor and a skid steer but are in NEED of a side by side now!! Loved watching your journey and learning along side you! Thanks for sharing!
good morning such great timing getting my christmas list going im needing a cart just not sure what to get your view and explanation has been wonderfull. thank you both for what you do may God continue to bless you.
I purchased my Kangaroo Garden Bag 3 years ago this week thanks to Laura. Love, love, love it. I just have a “normal” subdivision lot and use it a lot. I love that I can drag it on the grass when it is full and not have to worry about ruining /ripping the bottom. Also, it is nice to store in the garage because it can collapse.
Adding that 30 gallon kangaroo bag to our Christmas list! Thanks for sharing all your feedback with all these tools/utilities. We typically use things beyond their capabilities as well so nice to know that too about the tools that they will hold up!
I have a long and narrow 1.4 acre and have been trying to find something that can go through wet wet land up to dry and back down to the back third where I plant trees but I can’t justify some of these toys but now I might save up 😂
We have less than an acre and my husband bought a riding mower/ tractor. Our flat yard is like 1/8 an acre and the rest is on a 30’ slope into forest! Talk about overbuying!!! The mower literally can’t handle the slope!!! 🤣🤣🤣. I am going to get the medium dump cart though for Christmas. All because of this great review! 😘😘😘

My husband and I moved from a large lot to 5 acres of land. This video will give us tons of information on what we may need in the future. Thank you😊
Love all these
Funny! My honey found a cart like yours and bought it and when it came in I asked him when did you start watchin laura... 🤪❤
I love our cart, it has saved our backs many time, well worth the money.
Also need one of those pop up bags.
This was so interesting to listen to. I’d love to see more videos like this in the future!
Watching you with your garden cart before gator, I purchased one. Don't know how I got along without it. Helpful, informative information.
This just reminded me about the new trees you planted on the lane - can’t wait to see how they’re doing!
The pop up hamper changed my gardening this year. Thanks for the info.
Agreed. Big fan. Made leaf cleanup this year much easier.
I love my gorilla cart. It’s by far the one garden tool that I use the most.
They are worth every penny! Totally agree!!
Yes! The 5 gallon bucket is my everything!
Thanks for mentioning that thing for moving containers. Didn't knew it exists something like that.
I purchased the kangaroo soft bottom after watching one of your videos. I love it. Now I'm about to purchase the 30 gallon one. because after watching you since April my garden has greatly been enlarged.
Thank you for all your helpful videos. Love your channel.
Thank you both for all the tips and advice ☺️👍🏼
Good Morning Everyone 🌞❄️💕☕
This video was so fantastic for where I am on our new property right now and share with hubby. Thank you so much 😊
Good Morning everyone. Definitely need the pop up bag.
Lol.
@@kathleenhazy6126 Thanks for the review I'd be ordering mine
Very helpful, thank you Laura and Aaron!🤗💜
As a note, of course it doesn't replace our tractors, but they do completely different jobs.
A few years ago I bought an inexpensive hand truck (dolly) at Lowes to help me move my pots around and it's been a huge help.
I bought the large gorilla cart after watching your videos for about a year and I loooooove it for our 13 acres!
Thanks for sharing!
good morning such great timing getting my christmas list going im needing a cart just not sure what to get your view and explanation has been wonderfull. thank you both for what you do may God continue to bless you.
i bought the kangaroo pop up bag last yr from your recommendation and i LOVE LOVE it. one of the best gardening purchases i'v ever made.
