hey, just got one of these for free in its oroginal box. it powers on, but when the button is pressed, the film winder doesn't spin. I think one of the drive gears may be broken, but i was wondering if it needs a film cartrige inside of it in order to start actually spinning?
@@emborg3145 hello there, the camera does not need a film cartridge to start spinning. The main gear inside does break and then it does not spin anymore. Unfortunately it is hard to repair!

Hello hope to solve this mystery not sure sound recording part ofmy Canon 514xl-a is working correctly, when start button is pressed the sound pinch roller moves up I need to know if it’s supposed to rotate or not unless a sound cartridge is installed ?

Does this mean I need a cartridge to test?
I have the same issue the roller of my 514xls is not moving when the trigger is pressed but I still hear the bottom wheel spinning. Sorry for the perhaps incorrect terminology I'm just starting to get into super8!

@@MariaFernanda-cb9wk I think there's a piece in this specific model that gets corroded and breaks with time and is hard to replace unless you dismount and insert a replacement piece in (which apparently would have to be three printed)
