Jawtooth, that was a Landcruiser, most likely imported as we have them here in Australia. That thing sticking up is a snorkel, used for a vehicle goes in a creek or river crossing so it can breath / engine goes under some water. You don't see that there much. Basically the air filter up out of the water.
You don't see that much because we build bridges in the States! Just kidding...just kidding. Actually snorkels are pretty popular with weekend warriors wanting to be overlanders.😂
MR TOOTH Thanks! We are gonna have to find you a vrbo rental to do some live action on the rails for a week! Mr Jaw Tooth- That would be pretty sweet! Awesome catch on the LandCruiser ( love that particular year model ) triple lock that sucker and there isn’t many places it can’t go- and you get there in comfort! LOVING THE NEW CAMERA! Clean and steady! The ambient glow of the crossing lights on the cars was top notch !
Thanks for the Super Thanks! I just got home from West Virginia about a half hour ago and that will help with the gas. A vrbo rental would be fun. I have rented a few interesting places for a night or two. I did the one in LaGrange at the Brakeman's Cottage and I did a small house in Georgia by the Funnel and some other ones over the years. I love doing that. Last night I stayed in a motel with a view of the railroads and there were 15 train movements while I was there. Thanks for your support, it is very much appreciated!
Oh that's so cool. Wish I could have purchased a house like that. I'd love to be able to sit outside on a large covered porch and watch trains go by, or if the weather's too cold or too hot, just sit inside and watch the trains go by through a large, clear picture window.
Awesome! That is my dream. You can railfan from home. The trains come to you and you don't have to go anywhere and the best part is when they surprise you. Pretty cool
@@cindy44h oh WOW! That's really awesome. Would I love a house like that next to a busy rail line. I'd never leave the house, not until they rolled me out after I passed away probably while watching the last train🚆that I'd ever see.🤣😂🤣
Thanks for the Super Thanks again Mark! I will have some more night shots soon. Last night I filmed some trains around midnight in Ashland, Kentucky. I also got Amtrak. It might be a few days before I can get them posted though since I am working on Kenova right now but I have some good stuff. Thanks again for your support Mark!
You did an excellent job of documenting these trains at Walton, Kentucky on 26 December 2024, Jaw Tooth! Your new camera did a wonderful job of capturing the trains in low light. I have noticed that when you use that new camera in daylight it tends to look you are shooting into the sun. Thanks for adding the Norfolk Southern southbound train at Winton Place as it headed to the Norfolk Southern's Gest Street Yard. Posted on 16 January 2025 at 1708 CST.)
That "muffler" is termed a "snorkel" and provides combustion air to the engine when the vehicle fords a deep section of water. We enjoy your trains ! Thank You
Most of the time I see Norfolk Southern grain trains, they mostly have three locomotives and they transfer the grain train from the Norfolk Southern line to the Canadian National line to go to the grain elevator and it's pretty cool to catch one down here
@@JawTooth wow 168 cars is a lot but IVE SEEN ONE LONGER THAN THAT, 2 Canadian National locomotives pulling 206 grain hoppers about a couple years ago and omg I couldn’t believe it
That was the air filter intake tube on that Toyota Landcruiser for when he goes out in 4 wheeling. He can go through deep water without stalling. Great video JT.
I saw that N.S. at 8:24 on your video that was posted on 1/5/25. I keep track by writing down the engine numbers, and car count. LOL!! Last video of the N.S. at 6PM, I call that the TANKER EXPRESS, to fast to read the engine numbers!!!
Jt, brilliant freight trains 🚆 video 📹 awesome captures bud, JT the house 🏠 you showed us near the line, would it not in the slightest vibrate if a train was fairly motoring at some speed???? Around where you mostly film 🎥 do you never get commuter trains 🚆 or is it out of the way for them????cool Xmas trees 🎄 lit up near the crossings, in the dead of night 🌙 do they still use there horns?? Very cool 😎 with the snippets of history 👌 great viewing 👍 👌
We don't have commuter trains in my area so I rarely see them. Every February I get them in Florida though and today I am posting a video with Amtrak. Thanks for watching
New camera works great. The first use looks like cloudy daylight instead of early evening - it really does lighten things up. But I really enjoyed that dark rail crossing, your last shot. Just the general ambience of the houses on the street with streetlights int he dark neighborhood with the crossing in the foreground looks cool. Thanks for going out.
JT that new camera does a awesome job at night. I mean you can see those trains clear as day. You ought to be using that camera all the time because it has a real clear and sharp picture on it but anyway another awesome video and as always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one.
Excellent Video. I saw the signal drop for that extremely long CSX Train really good on my 50inch tv. Really nice catches on all the trains in this video.
This is going to be some awesome train action in this video with my morning coffee in Ohio and Kentucky with CSX trains and DPU'S along with the always amazing super pets, rocking music slide show and have a nice rest of the week thank you Jaw Tooth.☕🚂🚃🚃🇺🇲

Oh man, if I owned that house next to the NS Crossing, I'd have a large Window put in the side of the house. Then just sit back on my Sofa (that would also convert to a bed) and watch the trains go by. Would be a perfect viewport for looking down the tracks in both directions. And I could stay all warm and comfy watching the trains from inside no matter what the weather was like outside, AC for summer when it's too hot for outside, heat for the Winter when it's too cold. BTW: Jawtooth, if I had such a house and set up and I saw you outside, I'd invite you inside for a cup of hot chocolate while we waited for, and watched the trains go by. How cool would that be?😀
Great camera! You ought to name it "Night Train". By the way, just in case you haven't noticed the other 23 repetitive posts, the snorkel on the Toyota is an air intake so that it can be driven underwater. (Haw-Haw - that was a joke). Thanks for another really enjoyable video, Brian. Get another duck!
Thanks for watching my videos and thanks for commenting! I would like to have a duck but when the pond freezes over the foxes and coyotes get the ducks.
Its called a snorkel its attached to the intake and is sealed you can drive through mud and water up to the windsheild and the engine can still breathe.

Wow, that is weird. I wonder where they are driving. I didn't know they made stuff like that lol

Snorkel kit for off-roading. It keeps the air intake above the water line so you don’t flood the engine.
Thanks for watching my videos! Thanks for the info also
@@JawTooth Here's an extreme example of what a snorkel allows a vehicle to do: ruclips.net/video/a8TYLit80Ho/видео.html
It's a snorkel. an air In take. Very popular in Australia, and on diesel engines. 👍
For crossing creeks and rivers. With that option, the engine is sealed so no water intrusion.
Thanks for the info, I never heard of that before
