vibes !!! cool to see the Octatrack in dub culture !! 👍 I'm hesitating between the octatrack mk2 and the mpc live 2 to do a 1h30 live show! the MPC has 6 outputs! the OT 4.. I'm considering a small combo (groovebox + Bass synth) smallest mixer with 2 aux and an insert output
Hello @BarbesDub. To me personally, whenever there's live/performance, the ultimate machine is the Octatrack and (as you can see in the video can be used as a mixer). The MPC afaik is an ok production platform, much more accessible power (touch screens etc) but the Octatrack is a completely different beast. To be honest I would get both and let the octatrack be my final part of the chain before hitting the speakers, acting as a console/dub machine/live FX/live looper-sampler/live modulation/live performance tool in general. I would never ever do a live set without an Octatrack, once you get it you can go for ages. Also, I never talk about any other elektron gear piece like that :D it's just this.
yes, I'm thinking about it, I had a second-hand Digitakt, I sold it, I missed it in the end I bought one 🎶🤩👍 for the Octatrack I found a second-hand one and sold it too because of the flash cards and the battery changing every 5 years.. also for lack of patience, in fact an OT mk3 with connectivity and sd card is the dream.. 2024 maybe? if not I'm thinking of saving up to find an OT mk1 or mk2. MPCs can do a lot but close our imagination with their Daw workflow@@mptutsnstuff-pf9ei
King Tubbys prodigal son right there! Love it. Would of been nice to hear the delay you have created go into self oscillation. If you are afraid of the fixed phase noise that happens with AD/DA converters maybe a cheeky lfo can help 🤷♂️ Good work dub brother:)
haha, glad you like it! Of course, the loop can go for days, maybe I do another video where the delay goes to infinity! If you are talking about stacking the AD/DA noise that's not a problem, the loop contains a lot of modulation (I think that's the cheeky LFO you're referring to), even a tad of chorus or phasing can pretty much break the stacking, so yea any kind of modulation keeps things clean! :D
Hey, sorry you are right, youtube wouldn't let me paste the live link and also cut it with ... dots. I have now pasted the path that comes after the URL, I think you will be able to navigate :). Happy you like it!
Hello @Kuno331, I think it's sometimes very useful to read the description of the video. This video showcases a patch that lets someone use the same technique that king tubby used to dub with th Elektron Octatrack. As I state it's a quick video with random samples just to do the above. I do not posses either the music stems or the skills to perform king tubby's magic, but be sure that the patch that I created and hereby showcasing is capable of reaching that level in the hands of someone capable of performing dubs. So if you're just interested in the dub, sorry but there's pretty much nothing here for you, if on the other hand you know how to dub and own an Octatrack, patch it up and see for yourself! Cheers :)
This is marvelous, can’t wait to try it out! Thank you for sharing 🎉
haha, have fun with it yea :)
Wicked
duuuuuude, very cool method

Absolutely fantastic.
Nice work!
A pox and a curse on Avantronica.
fantastic dub
I don't know if it has something to do with my browser. But the link to the patches doesn't work.
Big vibe btw

You use King Tubby's name in Vain. Where is the highpass filter, drum fills, and groovy instrument sections?
