Everything she says it’s true. I am French and listen Hermès is like the mean girls of luxury brand. They juge you and can be like : hum no not you. We don’t have them in store. My issue with the beauty bakery brushes, or rather any brush that has a decorative piece at the end of it, is how to store them. Like a lot of people, I usually store my brushes in a cup with the brush head showing. So with the beauty bakery ones, if I stored them like that you'd never see the designs (so then what's the point of getting them) or if I switched it and stored them brush side down I'd worry that it would ruin the actual brushes. So yeah, those brushes seem like they're more trouble than they're worth, imo.
Full disclosure I bought the Tokidoki and Hello Kitty brushes Sephora had back in like 2010 (or thereabouts). I still have them. I can’t use them cause I’m worried it’ll hurt the “heads” to be in a cup upside down. I obviously can’t store them brush bristles down cause that’d hurt them too. I can’t get rid of them cause they’re “special”. I wish I’d never bought them. I essentially paid to torment myself.

Yes! No matter how nice their personalty seems or their taste in makeup - I have had to stop watching makeup youtubers who KEEP. DOING. HUGE. HAULS! You already have much more makeup than people buy in their lives! It's not cute anymore!

I don't mind gimmicky brushes, they're one of the few makeup products where I don't mind over the top features. I have a set of brushes from Storybook Cosmetics and they're shaped as wands, all of them with intricate designs. I store them in the pouch they came in, so they're not on display, but I just enjoy putting my eyeshadow on with the Elder Wand haha
I agree. Because realistically, they're just brushes. It's pretty hard to mess up the functionality of them; they're gonna do their job. So it's one of the few things where I really don't mind buying a gimmick - because you're still getting a functional brush.

On the topic of luxury beauty and fashion: I will never, NEVER buy makeup from any brand that is a luxury fashion house. The one exception I ever made was a marc jacobs gel eyeliner a few years ago that I barely used. The quality is usually not good and the makeup is targeted to middle aged rich white woman. And its infuriating that people make it like these brands are the top dogs, the ones who you strive to eventually purchase from. I can't imagine owning an eyeshadow quad that comes with those little plastic applicators that cost what I make in one shift. On top of that, the premise of just...buying bags to brag is astoundingly out of touch. The amount of things I could do with the price of a "luxury" handbag is hilarious. I do love luxury fashion from a creativity and history of fashion stand point, but I would not be caught DEAD in some of the biggest brands out there because, lets be real here, you are paying for the name. And the chanel advent calendar was proof of that.
I wanted the Huda palette because everyone kept saying how good it was. When I actually thought about it, I already have a ton of those shades and I really don’t love the shimmers that are in it. I am proud of myself because I usually give in!
I love how much Hermès and Chanel hate the resale market. It’s hilarious how much they’re wanting their products to be banned off of sites like poshmark etc.

An important lesson I’ve learned is that I can love and appreciate something without buying it. I can see a pallet and be like omg that’s SO cute. But if I’m not going to ever use it. I don’t need it or really even want it. I can appreciate its existence without having it collecting dust in my makeup drawer.
A product I’m glad I did not skip is that sleep mask you recommended in your video last year about things you can’t live without. I just got it for Xmas and it has been LIFE CHANGING! I sleep so much more soundly and don’t bother my partner when I fall asleep listening to your content :)

I think the mom thing is people in general. A lot of men have that mom thing for sports teams or dogs, my husbands mom thing is Star Wars or cats, I love dinosaurs… it’s just a people thing. We all have something in life that catches our eyes and we adore it for whatever reason. To be honest I just hear women getting categorized into a “mom” label for being a woman and I feel weirdly defensive lol. I think most people just have a THING they collect. My sister loves owls and cats, my brother is into Moose. But also some people grow out of those things but are stuck getting stuff themed around them forever lmao
I totally agree about the Huda Rose Quartz palette, but I did buy it. I have never bought from Huda before and since 80-90% of every palette looks almost identical to the other palettes that they've released, I knew I only wanted one. The colors in this palette appealed to me the most so I bought it (and love it), but if the brand continues making all of the palettes look the same, then it will probably continue to be the only palette that I own from the brand.
Her obsession minis are also great! I own a few of those because they offer more variety and I recently purchased mercury retrograde (I've been eyeing it for a long time, it was 50% off plus an additional 20%). But I agree, the bigger palettes aaaalll look so similar.
As someone that has to be VERY SELECTIVE on what makeup I buy, both because of money and because having too many options gives me anxiety, these videos are so helpful!!

The decorative piece from the Beauty Bakerie brushes will have more sense if it's attached to foundation brush. If I wanna mix two shades of foundations it will be an useful tool (for example that tiny spatula). If it's attached to eyeshadow brushes, it's not even visible for your eyes if you store them bottom down, like every brush.
Also if your like me and store your brushes bottom down in a jar, just think how difficult they would be to store because the bottom would take up space in the jar I could use for other brushes :/
The Melt Amor y Mariposa palette might be right up your butterfly-loving alley! The pressed pigments are incredibly beautiful. I've created one of my most favorite looks using that palette. 🥰
huge thank you for wanting to actually review products and not just do first impressions! honestly they give (at least to me) a viewer no actual info on if they should purchase the product. what i care about is how things wear, if they stay on and vibrant and don't make your skin look gross or disappear after two hours. with my oily skin and hooded lids i don't care how great an eyeshadow looks when you first put it on if it just ends up ghosting me after closing the front door lmao (before anyone says anything, i've worked out a base product combo that works out ok for me, but the makeup itself matters a ton too at least for me, some stuff just doesn't work no matter how good a primer you have lol)

You forgot the "best" part about the Birkin purchase! Many times the customer doesn't even choose the color. Some get the option to buy the one offered at the time. You may want a black one but only blue is offered so....

Hermes actually comes across as very tacky and cheap to me due to their business practices. 🤷🏻♀️ I'd feel embarrassed walking around with any of their products.
So I'm sitting here on my lunch hour at home watching this and doing my makeup and funny enough I grabbed the rose gold remastered palette to use today and the mercury retrograde is behind me. Bought both of them this year. Rose gold was dirt cheap from Huda's site for black Friday and I got a good deal from Sephora on the other. While I haven't used either extensively yet, first impressions are that the rose gold is miles ahead of the retrograde. Also I think you should absolutely make a video about recreating/improving on the too faced butterfly palette with your own stuff. And livestream picking out stickers for the front.

the huda beauty rose quartz palette pissed me off this year. i agree with everything you said along w the fact that it literally is so dusty and pale she just eliminates the possibility of poc using her palettes. and i’ve noticed this a lot w her recent palettes. the minis are usually dark and different but her big palettes more recently have been 50 shades of pale. i used to loveee her big palettes but these past few i’ve noticed the lack of diversity in depth of shades and just refuse to buy them anymore.
I’m a pro MUA for almost 10 years and I still predominantly use BH cosmetics! I love them so much I got my daughter for Christmas her first real set of makeup brushes from BH! She’s almost a teenager so I got her some real make up that’s cheap but good. Like a nice pro fusion palette, BH brushes and glitter, and a couple other eye liners. BH for the win lol

Vintage Birkins will sell for much more because they are vintage, but you can find second hand Kellys and Birkins totally not for 40k or even the same price ! Try some certified vintage shops around Paris if you really want the Birkin without the hassle ;)
I got the sugarpill fun sized too palette and its TRASH. I adore the first one and I use it all the time. The pinks are **chefs kiss** and the shadows are soft but not too soft so I was SUPER amped about the second one. If it were any GOOD i'd be using it often, because those colors combined with the first one are my jam. Some of the colors are good like the bottom row and like one or two in the middle but some of the pans are SO hard pressed I literally have to scratch it with a hard object or my nail to get any powder, and even then the pigmentation is not there. Its like Claire's makeup; just a whisper of color. The color I was the most excited for was the green and its the worst one of the bunch, and even scratching with my metal depotting tool almost doesn't work because it's like a rock. The entire top row is horribly hard pressed and I'm so bummed. I wish I had thought to return it but sadly I didn't so I think I'm going to depot for the couple of colors that are nice. Long story short you were right not to buy it lol
I have the same problem, I’ll dig my brush in and scrub them in but get barely any product. I’ve used mine maybe 2-3 times but I just don’t use it because they’re pressed so damn hard
I hate to be so negative but you talking about the “mom animal” phenomena reminded me a of a theory I have. They start as a genuine interest and admiration with the “mom” and they genuinely enjoy it at first but then it becomes a cop out gift for everyone in their lives. Why actually get your mother/wife/sister/grandmother anything actually thoughtful when you can get them their hundredth random figurine to add to the shelf of other figurines, or a mug with that image on it, etc.? At a certain point it becomes a self feeding cycle because they’re surrounded by these objects, everyone assumes they must be obsessed with this object and they feel like they can’t correct anyone or they’ll hurt the feelings of everyone who gifted them it. Sort of like Pandora charm bracelets, it’s an easy thoughtless 40 bucks to spend every holiday. Just maybe take a moment to ask them “hey no strings attached, do you actually love -?” so you can ensure you’re getting your loved ones gifts they actually want 💛
For example I love elephants but I have just stopped talking about them because I got so much random crap with elephants on it/elephant objects. I can love elephants and not want every inch of my home covered in them!
That is absolutely what happened to my mom and watermelons. My "mom animal" is a sun and moon motif, but I will never tell anyone to get me anything like that because I am just reminded of the porch in my childhood home that looked like a watermelon patch threw up in.

I think the mom thing is people in general. A lot of men have that mom thing for sports teams or dogs, my husbands mom thing is Star Wars or cats, I love dinosaurs… it’s just a people thing. We all have something in life that catches our eyes and we adore it for whatever reason. To be honest I just hear women getting categorized into a “mom” label for being a woman and I feel weirdly defensive lol. Just tired of hearing about my “role” as a woman from rude religious people ceaselessly pressing their beliefs into me. “As a woman, this is your mom thing.” I read into that way too far and took it too far. 😅

I think most people just have a THING they collect. My sister loves owls and cats, my brother is into Moose. But also some people grow out of those things but are stuck getting stuff themed around them forever lmao
I totally agree about the Huda Rose Quartz palette, but I did buy it. I have never bought from Huda before and since 80-90% of every palette looks almost identical to the other palettes that they've released, I knew I only wanted one. The colors in this palette appealed to me the most so I bought it (and love it), but if the brand continues making all of the palettes look the same, then it will probably continue to be the only palette that I own from the brand.
Her obsession minis are also great! I own a few of those because they offer more variety and I recently purchased mercury retrograde (I've been eyeing it for a long time, it was 50% off plus an additional 20%). But I agree, the bigger palettes aaaalll look so similar.
Literally this is Too Faced too! They recycle the colours in different packaging and almost all look the same

The decorative piece from the Beauty Bakerie brushes will have more sense if it's attached to foundation brush. If I wanna mix two shades of foundations it will be an useful tool (for example that tiny spatula). If it's attached to eyeshadow brushes, it's not even visible for your eyes if you store them bottom down, like every brush.
Also if your like me and store your brushes bottom down in a jar, just think how difficult they would be to store because the bottom would take up space in the jar I could use for other brushes :/

The Melt Amor y Mariposa palette might be right up your butterfly-loving alley! The pressed pigments are incredibly beautiful. I've created one of my most favorite looks using that palette. 🥰
huge thank you for wanting to actually review products and not just do first impressions! honestly they give (at least to me) a viewer no actual info on if they should purchase the product. what i care about is how things wear, if they stay on and vibrant and don't make your skin look gross or disappear after two hours. with my oily skin and hooded lids i don't care how great an eyeshadow looks when you first put it on if it just ends up ghosting me after closing the front door lmao
(before anyone says anything, i've worked out a base product combo that works out ok for me, but the makeup itself matters a ton too at least for me, some stuff just doesn't work no matter how good a primer you have lol)

You forgot the "best" part about the Birkin purchase! Many times the customer doesn't even choose the color. Some get the option to buy the one offered at the time. You may want a black one but only blue is offered so....

My mum's animal obsession is a flamingo! She has tons of flamingo items in her house and her garden. However, I don't know if she started the obsession, or if she casually mentioned once that she likes flamingos, so me and my siblings just went nuts buying her everything 😂

So I'm sitting here on my lunch hour at home watching this and doing my makeup and funny enough I grabbed the rose gold remastered palette to use today and the mercury retrograde is behind me. Bought both of them this year. Rose gold was dirt cheap from Huda's site for black Friday and I got a good deal from Sephora on the other. While I haven't used either extensively yet, first impressions are that the rose gold is miles ahead of the retrograde.
Also I think you should absolutely make a video about recreating/improving on the too faced butterfly palette with your own stuff. And livestream picking out stickers for the front.

the huda beauty rose quartz palette pissed me off this year. i agree with everything you said along w the fact that it literally is so dusty and pale she just eliminates the possibility of poc using her palettes. and i’ve noticed this a lot w her recent palettes. the minis are usually dark and different but her big palettes more recently have been 50 shades of pale. i used to loveee her big palettes but these past few i’ve noticed the lack of diversity in depth of shades and just refuse to buy them anymore.

I’m a pro MUA for almost 10 years and I still predominantly use BH cosmetics! I love them so much I got my daughter for Christmas her first real set of makeup brushes from BH! She’s almost a teenager so I got her some real make up that’s cheap but good. Like a nice pro fusion palette, BH brushes and glitter, and a couple other eye liners.

Vintage Birkins will sell for much more because they are vintage, but you can find second hand Kellys and Birkins totally not for 40k or even the same price ! Try some certified vintage shops around Paris if you really want the Birkin without the hassle ;)

I got the sugarpill fun sized too palette and its TRASH. I adore the first one and I use it all the time. The pinks are **chefs kiss** and the shadows are soft but not too soft so I was SUPER amped about the second one. If it were any GOOD i'd be using it often, because those colors combined with the first one are my jam. Some of the colors are good like the bottom row and like one or two in the middle but some of the pans are SO hard pressed I literally have to scratch it with a hard object or my nail to get any powder, and even then the pigmentation is not there. Its like Claire's makeup; just a whisper of color. The color I was the most excited for was the green and its the worst one of the bunch, and even scratching with my metal depotting tool almost doesn't work because it's like a rock. The entire top row is horribly hard pressed and I'm so bummed. I wish I had thought to return it but sadly I didn't so I think I'm going to depot for the couple of colors that are nice. Long story short you were right not to buy it lol
I have the same problem, I’ll dig my brush in and scrub them in but get barely any product. I’ve used mine maybe 2-3 times but I just don’t use it because they’re pressed so damn hard

I hate to be so negative but you talking about the “mom animal” phenomena reminded me a of a theory I have. They start as a genuine interest and admiration with the “mom” and they genuinely enjoy it at first but then it becomes a cop out gift for everyone in their lives. Why actually get your mother/wife/sister/grandmother anything actually thoughtful when you can get them their hundredth random figurine to add to the shelf of other figurines, or a mug with that image on it, etc.? At a certain point it becomes a self feeding cycle because they’re surrounded by these objects, everyone assumes they must be obsessed with this object and they feel like they can’t correct anyone or they’ll hurt the feelings of everyone who gifted them it. Sort of like Pandora charm bracelets, it’s an easy thoughtless 40 bucks to spend every holiday. Just maybe take a moment to ask them “hey no strings attached, do you actually love -?” so you can ensure you’re getting your loved ones gifts they actually want 💛
For example I love elephants but I have just stopped talking about them because I got so much random crap with elephants on it/elephant objects. I can love elephants and not want every inch of my home covered in them!
That is absolutely what happened to my mom and watermelons. My "mom animal" is a sun and moon motif, but I will never tell anyone to get me anything like that because I am just reminded of the porch in my childhood home that looked like a watermelon patch threw up in.
