Here are the measurements for rings placements that we are happy with. Here is the length of our leash. TOTAL Length -- From snap hook A to Snap hook B = 82 inches end tip to end tip. First ring is 19.5 inches from the end tip of the snap hook A. Next ring is 46 inches from the end tip of snap hook A.
Just finished making a leash following your directions. Made it 9ft long with rings set into the leash for a handle, a belt, a sling and a collar.
Way cool! Thank you very much for watching and leaving feedback!
You missed 4 big uses for the leash, as a crossbody leash, a waist leash, walking 2 dogs at the same time and as a tie down when out in public (such as to a park bench you are sitting on, not leaving your dog tied up somewhere unattended). I have a service dog and all I use is a leash similar to this but in a crossbody setup because that way I have no fear of dropping my leash when I am out shopping, etc. Also when I am at home I can walk my service dog and our older dog at the same time. Just make sure to measure around shoulders to waist for a ring for crossbody and the same for waist, making sure to add some extra inches for winter coats. Some leash designs have an additional short handle loop at one end called a “traffic leash” as way to keep their dog in a close heel in crowded areas and also for emergency stops like at curbs and street crossings. Beautiful workmanship and great detail showing how to craft this leash. Thanks for the great camera work and lighting, not all tutorials do that very well.
At first I couldn’t figure out why you put a clip on both ends but with the rings in it this becomes a very versatile lead. Thanks for the video. Well done. You could also put one more ring in the middle to add another level of adjustment on the length.
Thank you very much for the feedback! So true... add more ring as you said to fit the users need. Thanks again for watching and for the comment!
Greetings from Germany and thank you for this awesome Video...
My bad I started doing my own version to quick so I took 50ft of each color, now my leash is way to short.
I should have read the comments before starting my own version.
But that's no big deal I will just start over again and take 80ft per color to have enough safety cord at the end 😉
Again, thank you very much for the nice and easy tutorial.
I used 40 ft for each paracord and it took me about 5 hours to make. I only spent 3.75 and now my dog has a nice leash :) I don’t have a measuring tape but the leash came out to be nearly 5ft.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I am making a paracord leash for a friend and needed to figure out a clean way to end it. I REALLY like how you ended it. Very clean look. Thanks!
I would like to show you the dog leash I have braided.boots954r@gmail.com
That's awesome! I never knew you could use paracord with this type of knot. I used to do these knots on those jelly strings back when i was in 5th grade. lol. I made them for all my classmates! Now I'm stuck between this design or another design i learned with an 8 string braid.
Love this, but need a second security handle close to the collar, for use when passing dogs, as my 45 kg german shepherd is reactive. Woul be so greatful to get help making the leash with double handle❤
Thanks for the video. Great job. I thinking of making a horse leash with about 4 meters length. (OMG, I think I will need 156 meters paracord because I want to use 3 "colours").
Great Video, only thing I disagree with is the "you don't have to buy the needle" comment, I've only been para cording for a few months now, and I made my first needle from a hollow knitting needle, since then I have bought the same one used in your video, I don't know how I managed without it. Thinking you should promote viewers to getting one, to better their results, and simplify their crafting.
**Important** Use 65ft each color (vid shows 50ft each)

I can not do that first part
How do you make the name thing on the leash and how do you attach it?
@@jaysonrace4079that's most likely just a short piece of paracord woven under a couple stitches , add name beads or whatever and a knot at the end.
Oh wow, that is a great video. I love crocheting, so I might one day give it a go. It looks a bit complicated though!
Thanks for the video and for the idea to make a leash that matches the coat colour of the dog. Just made one in black and brown.
Only concern with this type of knot is that it's springy. Even if you tighten it to the max of your human ability, it will stretch because there's not a solid core.
How do I know? Made several snake knot leashes - same issue. And I've made hundreds of crown knot key chains. They will stretch a bit, but I don't think it has any real risk of failure or deforming. It's just going to give the dog more reach (by a couple inches for something that long).
I made one, and realized it was springy as well. I think it's a better idea to have just the slightest stretch to it. A non springy leash can pull suddenly and yank from your hand.
Also. I have not done this yet. But I think submerging it in Hot water (not too hot. Paracord will melt) it will shrink it up and lock it in place a little better.
If I wanted to make the leash longer (im planning to make a long lead) is it possible to add more length when I run out of paracord? How would I do that?
See this video... ruclips.net/video/OXOu1XsCoDM/видео.html
@@KaraGermanShepherdAdventure Awesome! Thanks so much for taking the time to find that for me!
You made this so easy I have been trying this knot for 4 days
Michelle, I hope you finally figured it out. Thank you for watching and commenting!
The most beautiful and functional leash that I have ever seen! I don't have a German Shepherd, I have a Chocolate Lab Mix. I wonder which colors would look good on him..... Thank you so much for sharing!
VC SC Thank you very much for the feedback! I say brown - chocolate. Good luck!
VC SC Thank you very much for the feedback! I say brown - chocolate. Good luck!
Kara Zor-El Batilo a smart German Shepherd GSD Thank you!
VC SC I was thinking if this... how about white with brown or cream with brown? I think the color contrast with be very good vs plain brown
Thank you for great video, I cant wait to start mine. I had a question if you dont mind to clarify how much paracord to use for certain leash length? In the description you say 200 yards will yield 2 x 6 foot long leashes using 50 foot of each color in the leash. But in your reply to Kurt Parent you said "My actual usage of Paracord to get this leash length of 5ft = 2qty (of each color) of 70 ft - medium wound' I am confused on how much to use for a 6 foot leash and want to make sure I am starting the project off right.
+Brandon Totel Thank you very much for watching and for the Comment! Anyway, my response to Kurt is accurate. Go with 70ft for your project... thanks again and good luck!
Very nice tutorial and a beautiful Leash. My only concern would be on paper it looks great but in reality those o-rings tend to stretch out the leash and that snap-hook is very unreliable in my opinion. It opens very easily unfortunately.
It has been 5 years plus and the rings are still intact (not opened). Make sure you get the rings that are rated for 200 pounds or more. Thank you very much for watching and for the feedback
Fine work. Beautiful dog, too.
Wow! Thanks so much for this detailed tutorial! :)
I'm planning on making a horse leash like this, should be around 2,5m of lenght in total (not sure how much that would be in ft), how much paracord would I need of each colour for that lenght?
Thank you very much for watching! 1.5 meters users 19 meters each color (todatl of 38meters)... so with that info. for 2.5 meters you will need 32 meters each color (64 total). Thanks again
2.5 meters is 97 inches?
Excellent instructions, maybe one day I will create something like this! Thumbs Up, Charlie!
Just FYI, using your needle as a marlin spike is not exactly a wrong use.. its not much different as far as usage goes. Great tutorial.
Hrafn Nordhri Thank you very much for the kind words! I do appreciate you stopping by - watching and commenting!
Do you think it will be too big when you use 6 cords instead of 4 for the leash? I like to use more colors 🤗 it looks very good.
I say why not... try 6 cords. Thank you again for watching and for the feedback!
am here again Kara, supporting.
Nice and versatile. Thanks for the demonstration at the end. I like the options.
David Fields thank you very much for the feedback! I do appreciate very much!
Amazing tutorial! I’ve done most of the leash, I only used the 50 ft of paracord. But now I’m wondering at what point should I put the O ring for the short loop? Leash is about 4.5 ft now with 8 ft of paracord strands left
adorei! Poderia ensinar outros modelos
Awesome DIY!! We might make some for our dogs when we have time. Thanks for the tutorial!
Shepherd Squad Thank for watching! Good luck with making it. Thanks again
A question for you more experienced paracordists...How do you handle all the excess paracord when doing the Matthew Walker Knot? I am new at this, and have made a couple of other leashes, and bracelets.I have been practicing the MW Knot with shorter, scrap pieces of cord...that is going well, but when I get to this I am overwhelmed with all the extra paracord. Help!
Aaah yes the dreaded excess paracord 😂. Practice and a LOT of patience
What a great tutorial, I especially like the bobbipin idea.
Thanks.
Oh my...this is SO awesome. Thuesday i hope to expect my paracord and i am sooo going to try this! Only i wonder.. say if i want to make a 1,5meter long leash..how much meter paracord do i need per color?😊
Ivy van Rooij Thank you very much for watching. Good luck and have fun with your project. You will need 19 meters of each color. You always want a little bit of extra.
Thank you for the fast answer!😊 and what if i want to make a 2,10 meter leash? Is there a math thingy to know how much youll need? And if i make the 1,5m leash then i need in total 80m paracord?
little different job with 36 paracord meters!! 😳
hi, very nice collar!! I would like to make one for my husky. Can you tell me how many ft of papacord I will need for a 10 ft collar? I would like use as you two types of papacord. Thank you.
Your finished leash looks quite a bit thicker than the one I made. Did you use 550 cord or something thicker? Maybe I just made my knots tighter than you did.
For a change. Mattew Walker to a 4 strand round braid. Terminate back splicing 2-3 and finish with a Turks Head.
Good video. Your sound editing techniques are a little rough, but all in all a very instructional video.
Thank you very much... I was learning... and still learning editing. Thank you again for watching!
Thank you very much. Very neatly looks. I'll do it for my dog. "
Thank you for watching and for the feedback! God luck with the project. Let me know of the outcome...
Awesome looks great. i will give it a try, you make it look easy lol. great tutorial. thumbs up on vid.
Wow, wonderful handmade dog leash!
Richard Parker Thank you Richard! I appreciate the feedback.
Solid wisdom!
Solid wisdom nicely done!!!
You make this look easy with such a short cord, I'm having a heck of a time with 50' of cord being threaded back and forth and keeping them straight . . . any tips? First time.
Thank you Brad for watching and stopping by... did you happen to see 5:47 ? That is the long cord... I usually do about 5 - 8 then I have to straighten out the cords... I hope it all works out for you. It did test my patience... hang in there...
Separately wrap the cord around your hand leaving about 2.5 feet. Remove from hand and wrap the single bundle with a rubber band. Repeat for other strands. Now you can pull cord out of bundle when needed.
Big Daddy That's actually a really handy tip, I guess one just has to adjust the size of the loops so that the little bundle can fit through, right?
Awesome thank you so much for this video 😄👍😍✌
Great advice!
Thank you Liza! This is the most use leash...now. My wifew really enjoys the hands free configuration. Thanks again! it is a fun - nice project.
Oh how neat.Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Woofie!
If i want to make a 180cm leash how many metersof rope do i need... I wnat to make the exact as shown! Thanx
billtheunforgiven you will need 39 meters of each color... 80 meters total (rounded up). Better to have extra cord
Hello. How many meters of one colors I need for 180cm leash and 130m leash? Thank you very much and have a nice day. (Btw:nice video)
Good stuff I'm might try this 1 day great video
Thank you very much! We love this leash!
Have you ever used elastic bungee cord to make this leash? Just wondering. I may try that for a coupler for my 2 dogs.
Thank you for making this!! I am in LOVE with this leash, definitely going to make one. Anywhere in particular you get your Paracord from?
Also if I want to make just the loop with a clasp on it (like a traffic lead) how much Paracord would I need?
I just discovered these guys yesterday...very good prices: www.paracordwholesaleshop.com/
Beautiful! and very practical! Just found you, and subbed.

Kara this a great tutorial. How much does the leash shorten based on the original material length? For example if I wanted a ten foot leash, what length of cord should I start with on each of the four legs?
Kurt Parent Thanks for the comment! My actual usage of Paracord to get this leash length of 5ft = 2qty (of each color) of 70 ft - medium wound ( not very tight ).. so if you want a 10 ft leash... you will need 2x 140 ft of Paracord. So, each leg would be 35ft. Hopefully that helps.
That's exactly what I am looking for 3.5:1/leg or 14:1 total, ignoring attachments. This is probably much heavier a leash than I need, but I like the look and style. I think I have some older 3 strand Paracord I might commit to this which would cut down some on the mass.
Great tutorial, as I'm coming g to an end with my leash I have a question: is it normal that two cords get shorter by the end? I got a difference from 1 meter between my yellow and green cords?!
I used 20 meter (65 ft.) as you mentioned in a comment and will get around 1,5 - 1,6 meters of leash if myath is correct.
Yes... They do get shorter. I always like to add extra... to make sure you get the desired length... thank you
Thanx, just finished my second leash with your video as a guide. The first leash was a good learning experience ;) so I am more than happy with the second one :)
Question: I'll write a little blog about my leash and would like to embed this video, so everybody who maybe reads my blog can follow your instructions. Is that OK with you?
kind regards
Are you using the 4mm diameter paracord? Will it holds if your dog try to pull hard... is it ok if i use single cord instead of making braided... thanks
You should sell these lol I would definitely buy one cause I would never compete this and even if I did it wouldn’t look like this
Thank you very much for watching! Lol... you can do it....
I have some dog leashes already made.Would you like to see them? boots954r@gmail.com
my dog has been cutting trough leashes like a knife..how good is paracord vs strap?
Hello, I can ask how long the paracord should be for one leash?
awesome channel my friend excited for some new content
Hi! I have a question! If i want a 1.80cm (6.5ft) long leash and i want to use 3 colors i have to buy 65ft of each color? For example 65ft black, 65ft white, 65ft red. Is it right?
Awesome DIY!!!!
Brenda German Shepherd thank you Brenda for watching! Have a great day!
this was amazing TFS CJ showing support
Thank you CJ!
Very nice channel, thank you for sharing
mygoldenfriend thank you for visiting and watching!
My pleasure
Did you make the twisted one as well? And if so, how? :)
How much rope I need if the leash should be 2,50 - 3,00 meters?
For 3.00 meters...You will need 38 - 40 meters of each color. You always want a little bit of extra. Thank you very much for watching. Good luck and have fun with your project.
Thank you :)
Can I do the same technic with 6 strains (so i have 3 colors)?
La Fleur try it and let us know.. :) In my head it looks like possible...
Hey nice video. How resistant is this thing to pulling? I want to make one for my cane corso but it doesnt look like it can withstand much.
Wyszech it will hold. Paracords are strong. how many pounds can your dog pull? Each paracord strand is 500 pounds rated. There are 2 strands on the attachments. The weak points: 200 pounds rated o- ring and snap hook. You can get stronger oring and snap hook. Get higher rating. I would say at bare minimum (conservative) 1000 pounds pull before paracord snaps or break. Again get higher rating on oring and snap hook
Lol! Wow! Cane Corso! I just a video showing a Cane Corso pulling 2700 pounds.... awesome breed! Good luck and thanks again
That's awesome! :-)
1st508th Airborne Thank you Chadd. One cannot have enough Paracord. I have done many bracelets but never this long or large project - 100 ft total. Thanks again!

As a former paratrooper in a big fan of things made from 550 cord... lol. 👍☺🐾
To make a 6ft leash, how many feet of paracord needed for each color?
@Kara a German Shepherd Adventure I'm a bit confused. Should I use 65 ft each color or 50 ft? How long would the finished leash be if I used either?
Use 65 each color. It is better to have extra... than come up short near the end. You can always make it short...(cut it when you get to the length you like)... but cannot add material if you run short. so... the extra 15ft each. Thanks again.
How did you add in the string with the beads?
I've gotten try this!
Gotta
Rising From The Ashes Thank you very much! Good luck with it. My wife loves it.
I started to make this leash and realized you didn’t say at when to add the ring and how tight crown knots will be.
@Jeanne Guemmer sorry its a bit late... i found them in the description box at the bottom of it 😊
The method at 6:00 is great, but the cords get horribly tangled up so I have to "disentangle" them every 15cm or so of leash that I make. It's a very arduous process - I will probably NEVER make this kind of leash again lol. Turn back now, it's not worth it!
Just roll up each end of the cord. It makes it much easier
your description states you need 200 "YARDS" of paracord for two leashes - this should be 200 "FEET" though, right?
If you use 65 feet of each color (130 feet total) you will get 6ft to 6.5 ft of leash. I hope that answered yoru question...
How long it takes each of colours to get a 10 ft lenght leash? Sorry about the bad English
It took me approximately 1 hour per foot... but time spent per foot reduces as the cords get short... relax and take your time doing it. This entire project took me 10 hours.
What else can you use instead of parocored
This was helpful
How you do know how much cord you need? For example if I wanted to make a shorter version for something like a wallet chain?
Smoking Guns let me know how many feet you want... I can do the calculations for you. I have done some of them in the comment section.
Kara a German Shepherd Adventure 2 ft.
@@MrOOtZ For each color use 22- 25 ft each.

How thick was the paracord you used? 4 mm or 2 mm?

Thank you!
How much Paracord do i need if i want to replicate a dog leash of 3 mtr length? Would be nice to hear from you ASAP
40 meters each color
Hmmm then i would need to torch 10 mtr on each cord. I don‘t know if it would hold under pressure. Or do you put in reserve for the end of the leash?
Yeah its super easy when you are using 2 feet of cord in the video! Try that with 70 FEET of cord to pull through! How do you do that?!?!
See vid at 5:55 - I showed how to deal with extra long paracord. Thanks for watching and comment
@@KaraGermanShepherdAdventure Thanks for the reply. I didn't make it that far in the video. I got frustrated and gave up trying to do the MW knot at the start.
What is the diameter of the paracord used, 4mm?
How long did it take for you to make the paracord leash
It took me 4 nights... 2-4 hours per night. I bet you can do it faster... Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
