Made a slip leash, extra long for my GSD. I stitched it together instead of gluing. Could not find the end caps anywhere. Turned out great though. Thanks for the video!
Just gave this a shot today and it turned out great. You don’t need to use the caps if you just slice off the ends clean with a hot knife and melt the ends. We did blue marine rope + grey paracord. Thank you!!
That’s really great to hear! Thanks for letting us know and we wish you all the best with your dog training and your clients making custom leads for their floofers! 👍🏼
I've learned that you should never, ever just glue the ends, but make sure to sew them together. A good stitching is what holds it together and in the end keeps you and your dog safe. The rigging around the stitched - here glued - part is not counting towards safety and security of the leash; it's a decorative element. Other than that, I love the video and learned a new technique for thinning the ends of the ropes so that the end caps fit. Will definitely give that a try, thank you!
Hi Shileah and thank you for taking the time to comment and for making a very good point. I think for a bigger dog you would definitely want to stitch the ends together to prevent them from coming apart. It’s an easy step to add and it will definitely make you feel like it’s more secure. We’ve been using our lead since we’ve made it without any issues and I’ve tried to test it as much as possible so the good news is that it’s not as weak as it might appear. Having said that we have a small cocker spaniel so if I had a bigger dog perhaps I would feel that I would need to add a stitch for extra safety.
Many thanks for this very helpful and straightforward tutorial! On the basis of it, I have just made a lead for my dog with the same materials in my colours of choice and, since I ordered rather more than I needed (better safe than sorry), used them to make a matching slip leash, too.
Great to hear that Len! Glad you found the tutorial useful. It’s so cool being able to make something with your own hands and then use it every day! If you want you can send us a pic of it over on our Instagram account!
Awesome tutorial! I just ordered my materials and can’t wait to try it! I work with dogs and can’t find a slip lead that I like, so excited to see how this holds up at work!
So good to hear that you liked the tutorial and are going to be trying it out! We would love to see the results if you want to share them with us on Instagram when you’re done. Best of luck and enjoy making the leads for the floofers you work with. 😁
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a lovely comment. We really appreciate and we’re glad you enjoyed the tutorial. Hopefully your floof will enjoy the leash that you make for them! 🐶
Great video... I am however curious about the use of super glue as it wont permanently hold plastics etc... so this would mean the cap would eventually come off.. yes?
I didn’t know that about superglue. Ours seems to be holding on just fine and we’ve been using regularly since making it. Haven’t had any issues with it yet if that helps at all.
How thick is the rope/string you’re using to tie the handle and bottom part of the leash? I’m having a hard time finding some as I don’t know the size of it. I have bought some 1.5mm to use on a 4mm paracord and now feel that may be too big 😬😭
The cord that we used to tie the handle is micro-cord which was 1.5mm just like what you bought. However the dog leash that we used is 10mm so the sizes work much better together. If your looking for somewhere to buy the dog leash rope we used Paracord.eu and it’s actually called dog leash rope. 😊
@@PitchAndPaws thanks for the help! Hopefully I can still use what I’ve purchased. I found that site quite confusing, I’m not going to lie and I’m always a bit scared of ordering from out of the country at the moment. Wish me luck with this!

Hi there! Can you tell the model, color and dimensions of the swivel eye carabiner? If I want to attach a O-ring inside the handle part so I can clip it and hang it around my shoulder, do you know what dimensions should I use? Have you made a "Dog leash cord" collar with this same style?

Yes, we did a collar too! There’s a video on our channel about a collar that was made with paracord. It’s smaller cord than the lead but they look really good together.
We bought 3m overall and ended up using quite a bit. It’s all personal preference really. Since making it we realised that if we were to make it again we’d make it a bit shorter. The good thing is you can experiment with it all you want before you glue it and tie it so you’ll have the chance to find what length works for you! Best of luck making it! 🙌🏼
Hello Kripal, the rope and all the accessories were bought from paracord.eu. I think they ship internationally so you should be fine. On their website search for “dog leash rope”.
I guess it’ll all depend on how big your dog is and how much they pull. I haven’t heard of Kumihimo before so I don’t know how strong it is but it would be easy enough to test it once you’ve built it especially if you have a small dog.
Hi Poppy, we got all our supplies from an online store called Paracord.eu They have tons of different colours, sizes, and types of cord but the one we used for the dog leash is called “Dog Leash Rope” it’s 10mm in diameter and the colour was “Army Green”. Here’s the link: www.paracord.eu/army-green-rope-10mm-dog-leash-rope
Hello, the main rope is called “dog leash rope”. We got it from Paracord.eu From what I remember ours was the 10mm version but they also have slightly smaller ones.
Hi Pedro, The dog leash is *Ø10mm.* The brown rope that ties the ends is *Ø1.9mm (Paracord Type I)* . We bought about 3 meters of both just so we can have extra material for any mistakes. Hope this answers your question but if not let me know and I'll find out any other specs that you need! 😀👍🏼
This is a very nice tutorial video! Can you tell me something please? How secure is the technique with glue? Can hold a dog 40 kg for example? Thanks for your answer..
That's a great question Maria. I don't think I can confidently say yes to it but ours seems just as strong as it was on the first day. We do have a small Cocker Spaniel though (13kg) so much smaller than your dog. What you could do is use a needle and some strong thread to stitch the ends together after gluing them and before you use the little cord to wrap around them. That way the ends will be held in place by three things, the glue, the stitching and the cord. Hope this helps a little bit! 😀
I would say that about 1m length will be enough. You’re really just tying it around the dog leash rope to secure it. You could do more to be on the safe side and make sure you have a stronger grip so 2 meter should be enough leaving you 1 meter for each end.
Hi Chloe, all of the paracord was purchased from Paracord.eu They’ve got a great website with loads of different colours and options for the chord and hardware. 😁👍🏼 You can get paracord in a lot of other places though including eBay but we just liked how much choice there was on Paracord.eu

Hi. Great video. Is the clasp a plaited metal or stainless steel? Thanks.
In the US, the hardware piece is called a **swivel eye bolt snap hook**. A carabiner is a totally different thing.
