I think using Duke would have been more accurate to him having a midlife crisis and a subsequent psychotic break causing him to become an imitation historical figure, but we used him last time, so fair enough. Now that I think about it, it feels the same for John just without the midlife crisis and with crippling alcoholism, so it works.
I honestly really like the idea of sidequests and think there could be a new addition to your rules, i would say. Giving yourself a few sidequests and either, you get an additional "Joker" or if you already used one off, you get a random one back.
I dont even play payday and have no clue whats going on most of the time but the way he explains and the fact he talks very slow and clearly makes this all very understandable and enjoyable, very good video
If you think it's interesting, grab the game during the next Steam sale when it goes for like 3 dollars. Even if you're relegated to console it's still a damn good time if you want to try it (same gameplay for the most part, just a lot less content).
@@MrShifty1 I have the game, I played like 2 heists back in payday 2 with randoms, I had no clue what was going on and got stuck on the second heist so I just never tried it again, it was really complicating but just watching him clears up alot of things I didnt know before so I might try it again!
Suggestion: Opposite day, you have to use a loud build (75 detection risk, ictv, big guns, big melees, stoic/anarchist, ammo/C4/loud sentries, Frags/molotovs/incendiaries) for stealth heists and a stealth build (3 detection risk, small silent weapons, small concealable melees, yakuza, ecms/bodybags, cards/shurikens/axes) for loud heists.
I agree with you not using the bow during the "no shooting," challenge, I feel like it would have defeated the purpose to an extent. Sadly I don't have any challenge ideas for you myself, but I'm looking forward to any challenges that you or the community can come up with. As far as the video length, I personally don't mind it. An hour-long video for me isn't out of the question and I can always come back to it later if I get interrupted (then again, I also watched a six-and-a-half hour video the other day in one sitting, so I'm likely not representative of the rest of your fanbase.) If a video is entertaining enough, I'll finish it. At the end of the day, I'm fine with whatever works best for you. I know burnout can get really bad when it comes to making long-form content on a regular basis, so as long as it works for you, it works for me. Side note; you mention using Body Expertise in the video, does that actually work on the bow? I know it works with special weapons, but it stipulates that they have to be in automatic fire mode and the bow is single-shot, so I'm curious about it.
I got 2 ideas both of which are themed around TF2. Demoman Build : Primary must be the GL40 or Piglet Secondary must be the China Puff or Compact 40mm Melee must be the Rivertown Glen (Bottle o' Scrumpy) or any sword (I recommend the katana because it's just the Half-Zatoichi) Perk Deck must be Stoic You must make yourself drunk if you have to get the wine bottle on "Stealing Christmas" (LazyPurple says that you can't play Demoman without getting drunk at least once) Pyro Build : Primary has to be the Flamethrower Secondary has to be the Locomotive 12G (Pyro doesn't have any Flamethrower secondary weapons) Melee must be any "Axe" weapon or Comically Large Spoon (for the gold version which can set people on fire) Perk deck must be sociopath
Soldier should be easy - Any rocket launcher, any (non silenced) shotgun and a shovel melee. Deployable is grenade (They're on his chest) and perk deck is muscle or ex-president (Because he's very American, presidents, etc)
I feel like the Phone-A-Friend lifeline would be a really fun way to meet new people. Like, just imagine joining a game and seeing someone in high armor just using a bow instead of any other practical gun.
There are a few interesting life-line options for the future, depending on the run: * Allow a secondary (or primary, if it's a secondary-focused run) in one heist that utterly ignores the rules of the run. * Allow non-story heists to be played for Perk Deck grinding (until ONE new card is reached, played within the ruleset) * Allow non-story heists to be played for level grinding (until a level up is reached at the end, played within the ruleset) Of course, there is still a hard limit of three uses in total, and you can either pick what you feel is most viable, let RNG decide or just give all options and after the third go "no more". As for Big Oil, if you do stealth Day 2 until the mandatory alarm, I say using bots there is totally viable as that's only about two minutes of hiding, and you didn't have to rely on them for 90% of the heist outside of the passive buffs. May add "must do the loud portion pacifistic" if you want to make it a bit more fair.
I personally love watching your longer videos as I'm never too busy and they're a fun way to kill time. It also gives me a chance to enjoy a nice meal while watching so that's another plus. Lastly, despite me no longer playing PayDay anymore I still love keeping up with the various stats and quirks that make the game unique, and a shorter video format I feel would limit how much of that we'd be able to see/hear from you.
here's an idea Payday Nuzlocke You're only allowed to buy one of each weapon You must name them ( because ) You are not allowed to modify them ( optional ) Lose a heist, and you can't use any of those weapons anymore ( primary, secondary, and melee ), essentially losing them in the scuffle You lose all the weapons of a single category, you lose the run
A Green Arrow build would be cool, since it combines bow with high tech stuff. So C4 or poison arrow with ECM or Door C4. Only thing is you can’t pickup used arrows so that’s that i guess.
Here's me throwing my hat into the ring, Cowboy Run Rules: -You are limited to the Repeater 1874 and Peacemaker .45 as your guns -Your throwbables can only be the Wiskey, Dynamite, Molotovs, and the Throwing Axe -Melee you are limited to your fists, the weapon butt, bottles, and knives. -Equipment is limited to only Medic Bags, First Aid Kits, Ammo Bags, and Body Bags. Considering that both guns dont come with silencers, i think stealth with only the Throwing Axes would make things rather challenging.
For your question about the video format. I love it. You stretch the heists out well enough that i can still keep track and not get bored. And just a big chunk of really fun content and well written script that explains everything we need. I find it just fine to wait a little longer. Which in turn also avoids it becoming too much and burnouts.
How about a randomised equipment run? For each mission you roll the dice for all your equipment you'll be bringing into it, and have to use weapon mods, perks, and skills to make it work for the situation you'll be up against. Some missions will be trivial, but others may be made rather tricky
I have a challenge for you, its called opposite day. For heists that you want/need to stealth, you're only allowed to use an unsilenced weapon and you must be in the heaviest armor. For heists you want/need to do loud, you're only allowed a silenced pistol and be in a suit for armor.
using a mod called keepers, you can always stick the crew AI in the most useless place, and if you worry about the iter requierment, you can delete the line for it in the mod text file so pathing is not changed or improved, sticking them in a spot they would bearly shoot anything (like putting them in the basement) wouldent really allow them to kill more then a handfull while getting there.
Another amazing challenge Kknowley. I do think that the phone-a-friend lifeline could make things interesting in the future, especially with your connections in the community.
Another Great Video Kknowley. I realy enjoy any challenge Run you upload no matter how Long or Short. However I do prefer the longer ones over all. (I love to listen to you when I'm trying to sleep, you have a realy calming voice) 😁
yo, kknowley, personally i’m a massive fan of the video essay style of challenge run video. i like to just turn on the video and listen in while doing anything else
I have a very gimmicky (and probably not even good) lifeline idea: Federal Holiday. Allows you to skip a heist, but replace it with one of the seasonal event (or just not in the story mode) heists. Don't want to do Slaughterhouse? Alright, play it on normal (or just code of honor the rest of the story and ignore it) but you gotta do Lab Rats or something.
I dunno if you're taking requests but, imma write it anyway. Challange idea: Can you beat payday 2 as a pyromancer? Primary: Flamethrower Secondary: -Flamethrower- Any shotgun that has the dragon's breath rounds equipped. Melee: Your choice (golden spoon if yelwonkk has it.) Throwable: molotov Deployable(s): Your choice Almost forgot, minimum difficulty for early game: Overkill Maximum difficulty for late game (80 - 100) Death wish for loud, Death sentence for stealth.
There totally should have been an achievement where you run stoic, get in a vehicle, and kill a certain number of enemies in said vehicle. Call it DW-Die
Henchmen challenge: get 4 players to have 2 fully upgraded jokers and they are the only thing allowed to deal damage. All 4 players are allowed to use the taser melees to get more jokers but nothing more. Some exceptions may be made for bulldozers, Winters and Snipers but I'm not gonna be the one to think about those.
Sounded fun, so I was just going to briefly see how this went...until I realized I had finished the video. You are quite good at this game and you managed to edit out the tedium that often plagues videos like this while interjecting meaningful and entertaining dialogue. Well done. I might watch another one of these long videos if I get the time, but it would be nice to see some shorter, simpler challenges like build viability for weird/fun/crazy stuff through a few different maps.
I do like the long videos. I don't usually watch them in one go, but instead add them to my watch later list to watch it all in two or more sittings. I'm away from home for a few months and miss heisting, and these videos have been a nice way to get my PAYDAY 2 fix. Thank you for the videos!
yeah im making a knowly stealth fail bingo sheet based off all the fails from the series as well as a few of my own. these videos are great and i cant wait to see more in the future
Suggestion: Ninja run. Can only use bows, crossbows and single-shot rifles and pistols (ninja were some of the first people to adopt the use of firearms, iirc they mainly used matchlock rifles) and the tanto melee. Must stealth any mission possible. Can't use sentry guns or the ECM. (Ninja didn't technically have proximity mines but they were very gifted with traps and explosives, so it counts as usable imo.) Optional addition, must use the Yakuza perk deck, because Japan (optional because it seems like a really sh*t perk deck for the playstyle I'm encouraging)
Given that you never used the phone a friend option I would love to see a follow up where you try to do white house loud with someone. Its a really cool option for a lifeline that feels more in the flow of the challenge than just dropping the difficulty or getting the AI.
At least having the strongest armor possible in this challenge could be logical, if you imagine yourself similar to wearing full knight plating armor. I'm surprised nobody has made a LAS about just wearing generic knight armor.
If your going to do another one of these how about trying to use weapons on a random number generator. This means primary and secondary have to be chosen at random. After every heist you need to sell that weapon and buy another. You only have to buy weapons you can afford. This also goes for perk decks, armour and throwable and equipment. Mellow too if you’d like it doesn’t matter really for melee. Perks don’t have to be sold but have to be chosen randomly the first time. I think this would work quite well as you’d have to rely on many different strats
I gotta say, I'm not usually into run&gun gameplay videos, but this format is excellent, and the "lifelines" is an great idea. Love the "phone-a-friend" idea, that's fucking golden.
"Sniping's a good job mate. Challenging work. Outa doors. I guarantee you'll not go hungry. Because at the end of the day, as long there are two people left on the planet, someone is going to want someone dead."
Getting cuffed seems to be more of a bow issue since my understanding of the cuff requirements needs the player to have not shot for a few minutes, which the bow doesn't seem to fulfill
I love the bow and arrow, I always use it. In Big Oil Day 2 I use it with explosive arrows and is an amazing weapon tl defeat DS enemies if you use it the right way.
Idea for challenge:back to basics. Instead of starting the game from 0, you start it from lvl 100 character and go from white house to 1st heist. Interesting part? Every finished heist you take away 1 skill point (if there's no mod just try to remember how many you have left). And just for more variety, the closer to start you are, the worse weapons you use (level locked weapons are unavailable if normally you don't have enough level). You keep your life lines, and you get 1 special:F go back. What it does is you get +3 skill points you can use ONLY for this heist.
Drunk Russian playthrough. Only Russian weapons and stoic but you have to use the flask on cooldown every time. You can replace Russian with any theme you want, you still get to lean on stoic but you also are hindered by it rather than just using it as intended.
Here’s an idea, Can you beat Payday 2 with only melee weapons? If that doesn’t seem hard enough, maybe take out pumping iron or something. I also really like these long videos as it provides much needed background sound and your voice is calming in my experience.
I have a suggestion for the next challenge: If you're able to find 3 side objectives like this time for a challenge, why not lock your lifelines to those side objectives? Get one lifeline per objective completed, gives you more motivation to go for them, and as long as the objectives arent too difficult it could be an entertaining thing
1- achievement: super safe landing - survive a lethal height by placing a fak while mid air. 2- achievement: a shocking sight - shock yourself and while being shocked shock at least 5 other cops or 1 taser. 3- achievement: I used to be an adventurer like you - kill one of every officer (normal, heavy, shield, cloaked, medic, taser and dozer) with either the plainsrider bow or the English long bow in the knee
If you do happen to crash in the tunnel of biker heist, I found out that first holding the button to the side, until it's all the way left/right, then slightly moving forwarss/backwards is the best way of dislodging yourself. If you hold too long, the bike will make you perpendicular to the wall once again, so just light taps here.
Probably already recomended, but just in case. Can you beat payday 2 as a tower defense game. Main challange in this, would be slightly similiar to "without firing a bullet" However, the difference is instead of melee only, you are only allowed to kill by turrets, or trip mines. Optionally could include grenades, which can not be imediatly picked up, like the throwing knives, javelins, or Throwing Axes. You are allowed to bring ammo bags, if you think that would be more productive than the deployable trip mines. Enjoyed the video, and hope you have a nice rest of your day :)
You can do the roof rng of undercover in a much safer way if you jump, crouch, and start the interaction with the saw. When you land you will be covered by the limo on one half which is much safer, even if not as easy as the other rng
Challenge idea Only allowed to use a weapon ONCE outside the starting weapons. That would include just primary, secondary, and melee. Throwables and others like medkits aren't going to count because they are only a small selection and that'd be nightmare if you put it to that as well.
fun fact: my first time doing nightclub wasn’t actually in payday 2 proper, but a roblox remake called “Notoriety”, where the layout of the nightclub was basically the same from what I remember
back when one down difficulty came out dodge crit bow build is an actually very popular and legit built back then, you can often see 1 or 2 guys with bows flying around the map
I’d like to point out, until you get back to the early half of the Middle Ages, you do have access to black powder stuff, so like a musket or blunderbuss, while not the exact weapon from the time, would technically be the closest to an early gun from that time, that you could use.
I came up with a challenge idea: all loot, no dlc, this includes ATMs but would exclude stuff like that big safe on Santa's workshop or overdrill and it might actually be a good idea to allow ai on the run because of heists like Henry's rock or reservoir dogs. No dlc means paid dlc weapons, attachments or perk decks, but it does allow the community items, so no gecko m2 pistol but yes judge
Kknowley I think I just had a challenge idea you should attempt sometime, a Hotline Miami challenge where-in you gotta build skillsets around the mask abilities in game like Aubrey, graham, Dennis (like walking faster, taking more hits, more melee damage, etc) and using weapons only found in HM 1&2 (or the payday equivalents), also great work on this challenge. Watching this made me want to attempt a bow run on payday 2 😄
If you do soldier, you should allow skills that replace the grenades, since they’re like the banners, but you won’t be able to use a shotgun if you do so
It's a shame Crew AI can't be made to equip bows, I'm pretty sure. This is the one challenge if they could I would have encouraged them as your merry men.
Suggestion: Challenge name: "For the Sunlight Lord!" RULES:. You must use the melee sword and JUST THAT, you may then also use only the medieval helmet and that's it. Before you beat the Whitehouse, you must kill FIFTY FBI'S (Special units included.) And then you may escape, once you do, Victory shall be achieved and GWYN shall be pleased for you to be the best Silver Knight he has.
Play each heist with a randomly generated build. Do it on a level 100 account of course. Each heist, points are randomly allocated to each skill tree for a total of 120, and a random perk deck- maybe equipment and weaponry too. I’m so interested in seeing this that I will write the program that generates it for you.
For me i like the longer vids, however spliting them into several parts where you havn't done the next play session when putting out a part could help (For example: play to a certain heist, script part one, put it out, start play session two) this way we never know when or if you fail a challenge run
He went from Robin Wick to Bodhi Hood
So basically Don Quixote
That and the old time traveller theory

I honestly really like the idea of sidequests and think there could be a new addition to your rules, i would say. Giving yourself a few sidequests and either, you get an additional "Joker" or if you already used one off, you get a random one back.

I got 2 ideas both of which are themed around TF2.
Demoman Build : Primary must be the GL40 or Piglet
Secondary must be the China Puff or Compact 40mm
Melee must be the Rivertown Glen (Bottle o' Scrumpy) or any sword (I recommend the katana because it's just the Half-Zatoichi)
Perk Deck must be Stoic
You must make yourself drunk if you have to get the wine bottle on "Stealing Christmas" (LazyPurple says that you can't play Demoman without getting drunk at least once)
Pyro Build : Primary has to be the Flamethrower
Secondary has to be the Locomotive 12G (Pyro doesn't have any Flamethrower secondary weapons)
Melee must be any "Axe" weapon or Comically Large Spoon (for the gold version which can set people on fire)
Perk deck must be sociopath
Note: shaped charges and tripmines for deployable.
Soldier should be easy - Any rocket launcher, any (non silenced) shotgun and a shovel melee. Deployable is grenade (They're on his chest) and perk deck is muscle or ex-president (Because he's very American, presidents, etc)

There are a few interesting life-line options for the future, depending on the run:
* Allow a secondary (or primary, if it's a secondary-focused run) in one heist that utterly ignores the rules of the run.
* Allow non-story heists to be played for Perk Deck grinding (until ONE new card is reached, played within the ruleset)

Of course, there is still a hard limit of three uses in total, and you can either pick what you feel is most viable, let RNG decide or just give all options and after the third go "no more".

here's an idea
Payday Nuzlocke
You're only allowed to buy one of each weapon
You must name them ( because )
You are not allowed to modify them ( optional )
Lose a heist, and you can't use any of those weapons anymore ( primary, secondary, and melee ), essentially losing them in the scuffle
You lose all the weapons of a single category, you lose the run
Love it. Big Nuzlocke fan so this one sounds perfect!
A Green Arrow build would be cool, since it combines bow with high tech stuff. So C4 or poison arrow with ECM or Door C4. Only thing is you can’t pickup used arrows so that’s that i guess.
0:47 that transition was wayyyy better than it had any right to be
Here's me throwing my hat into the ring, Cowboy Run
Rules:
-You are limited to the Repeater 1874 and Peacemaker .45 as your guns
-Your throwbables can only be the Wiskey, Dynamite, Molotovs, and the Throwing Axe
-Melee you are limited to your fists, the weapon butt, bottles, and knives.
-Equipment is limited to only Medic Bags, First Aid Kits, Ammo Bags, and Body Bags.
Considering that both guns dont come with silencers, i think stealth with only the Throwing Axes would make things rather challenging.
"Scottish alcoholic knight"

Can only use bows, crossbows and single-shot rifles and pistols (ninja were some of the first people to adopt the use of firearms, iirc they mainly used matchlock rifles) and the tanto melee.
Must stealth any mission possible.
Can't use sentry guns or the ECM. (Ninja didn't technically have proximity mines but they were very gifted with traps and explosives, so it counts as usable imo.)
Optional addition, must use the Yakuza perk deck, because Japan (optional because it seems like a really sh*t perk deck for the playstyle I'm encouraging)
Given that you never used the phone a friend option I would love to see a follow up where you try to do white house loud with someone. Its a really cool option for a lifeline that feels more in the flow of the challenge than just dropping the difficulty or getting the AI.
Your challenge content is honestly amazing if u do more with this style u will probably grow a ton
Challenge idea: All stealth missions but you can't bag bodies.
"Sniping's a good job mate. Challenging work. Outa doors. I guarantee you'll not go hungry. Because at the end of the day, as long there are two people left on the planet, someone is going to want someone dead."
I'm honestly a massive fan of the current long format of these videos, I often put them on in the background while I'm drawing.
Getting cuffed seems to be more of a bow issue since my understanding of the cuff requirements needs the player to have not shot for a few minutes, which the bow doesn't seem to fulfill
0:50 holy that transition was clean
long form content is definitely worth the wait
"This drill is fucking worthless."
- Robin Hood
Some cogs, an Ap arrow head and some other things could work I think.
Instantly starts killing civilians, are you absolutely sure you're robin hood?
Please keep doing this format, these are some of my favorite videos. Thanks for another great one.
imo duke is a way better character for this challenge. Anyway good vid!
Man its definitely a bummer when videos take longer to create, but the content is definitely worth the wait.
Drunk Russian playthrough. Only Russian weapons and stoic but you have to use the flask on cooldown every time. You can replace Russian with any theme you want, you still get to lean on stoic but you also are hindered by it rather than just using it as intended.
15:48 ah yes, the drink and drive strat, the favorite of many Texas drivers
Here’s an idea, Can you beat Payday 2 with only melee weapons? If that doesn’t seem hard enough, maybe take out pumping iron or something. I also really like these long videos as it provides much needed background sound and your voice is calming in my experience.
I'm pretty sure he already tried a meele only run but it died on panic room cause of the snipers
Love the idea!
If only I'd known this before... This was surprisingly the first time I got stuck like this.
I Honestly love this video. Just the combinatiom of everything makes for such a fun watch.
You can do the roof rng of undercover in a much safer way if you jump, crouch, and start the interaction with the saw. When you land you will be covered by the limo on one half which is much safer, even if not as easy as the other rng
„my patented exit the car, drink and drive technique”
yup, yelwonkk is my man
16:28 I did not know you could do that.
That's gonna make future runs in Crime Spree a lot easier.
Challenge idea
Only allowed to use a weapon ONCE outside the starting weapons. That would include just primary, secondary, and melee. Throwables and others like medkits aren't going to count because they are only a small selection and that'd be nightmare if you put it to that as well.
fun fact: my first time doing nightclub wasn’t actually in payday 2 proper, but a roblox remake called “Notoriety”, where the layout of the nightclub was basically the same from what I remember
back when one down difficulty came out dodge crit bow build is an actually very popular and legit built
back then, you can often see 1 or 2 guys with bows flying around the map
Sorry to be that guy but
39:00
“Clows From Above”
I’d like to point out, until you get back to the early half of the Middle Ages, you do have access to black powder stuff, so like a musket or blunderbuss, while not the exact weapon from the time, would technically be the closest to an early gun from that time, that you could use.
Also, this challenge just turned you into a modern Mongolian bank heisted.
when you get stuck in tunnel, turn the wheels first, then drive forward/backward
it takes time for them to fully turn
I love the sudden unexplained switch to Bohdi
Cops: "You and what Army?"
Kknowley: "Oh la la la, Where are my manners? OH MERRY MEEEEEN!"
This long format of videos are nice and I like them
I guess Overkill saw you do these challenges and didn't want you to keep waiting for the correct mission to appear, good on them :)
Alternate title: kknowley talks about stoic being brokely op while shooting arrows
I cant complete aftershock. Its easy enough, but it wont let me pick the fucking saws up once theyre done
finally, you guys caught up with me
Don't spoil 2023 for me!
If you do soldier, you should allow skills that replace the grenades, since they’re like the banners, but you won’t be able to use a shotgun if you do so
Here's an idea, can you beat Payday 2 pacifist, jokers crewmates allowed
It's a shame Crew AI can't be made to equip bows, I'm pretty sure. This is the one challenge if they could I would have encouraged them as your merry men.
Suggestion:
Challenge name: "For the Sunlight Lord!"
RULES:.
I’m so interested in seeing this that I will write the program that generates it for you.
i definatly love the format! long videos like this are great to watch while doing something repetetive or something like that
Tbh i really like long content like this and i look forward to seeing it even if it takes longer per video
I love that part of Robin Hood where he gleefully murders all of the poor people he comes across while robbing the rich
For me i like the longer vids, however spliting them into several parts where you havn't done the next play session when putting out a part could help (For example: play to a certain heist, script part one, put it out, start play session two) this way we never know when or if you fail a challenge run
9:48 excuse me?
