- Опубликовано: 30 июл 2024
- The goal of this video is to provide a frame of reference for understanding illumination brightness in low power variable optics (LPVOs). While I provide and rank many common LPVOs, I'd like to expand the list to include more scopes on the market. If you wish to contribute to this effort, please comment below with your optic and the tier it would fall into.

Awesome video. You are correct, some manufacturers exaggerate on how bright some of their reticles are, so here is some of the ones I have experience with.
Ive owned the nx8 1-8, atacr 1-8, razor 1-10, leupold mk6 1-6, razor 1-6, pst 1-6, nova 1-6, Elcan specter dr 1x/4x vudu 1-10, and a few others.
Refference the ones I listed, the VUDU is daylight visible, but not daylight bright. All the others I listed are absolutely red dot bright.
To speak to the atacr 1-8 vs nx8 1-8 brightness. Both are absolutely red dot bright. The nx8 may edge it out on max brightness, by maybe a couple of extra clicks on the illumination dial, however, we're talking levels of illumination where both optics would be red dot bright on their max settings in the desert at noontime regarless, the extra couple levels on the nx8 isnt really useful other than just reserve power for when the battery starts to drain. Also, fun fact, all these red dot bright reticles, have an average runtime of 2-3 months constant one at optimal setting. Meaning usually setting 4 or 5, which is still red dot bright in most day settings, but without eye streaking reticle bloom, and theres still several high settings in reserve.
Love the detailed response! I appreciate your input.
@@compulsivegunbuyer absolutely, glad I could help out sir 🤙🏻
Just checked - my Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25-4 FireDot SPR is red dot bright. It has a wake on movement so the CR2032 I have in it from Feb '23 is still good.
That's neat
If you want to help grow the list, please comment below with your LPVO and the tier it falls into.
Gen 1 Swampfox Arrowhead 1x10 BDC = Daylight Bright
Delta Stryker 1-6x24 red dot bright (same as razor 1-6)
Sig Tango6T FFP (SKU SOT61231) Is daylight bright..... for a handfull of hours
Trijicon Accupower 1-8 (Green Ilum) is DUMB
@@TWIH718agree, have also the 1-10 Swampfox it’s brighter than a Strike Eagle but still not enough for a bright day. On overcast it’s OK
Great job on your scale. Here are some others from my collection.
Vudu 1-8 DLB
Strike Eagle 1-8 FFP DLB
Arken 1-8 DLV
Athlon 2-12 DLV
Love the scale, Glass Clarity next would be amazing 🤘🏻
Thanks for contributing! I think a ranked list of all the major categories for scopes would be an awesome accomplishment.
Stryker HD 1-6 missing nuclear bright DSMR is Mil reticle. Japanese Glass - better glass than PST gen2. Have it love it.
The Steiner p4xi is daylight bright with less bloom than the pa 1-6 (while being slightly brighter), and the Swampfox arrowhead is on par with the PA 1-6 (but with less bloom), and us optics 1-6 was probably red dot bright, but had an absurd amount of bloom.
Red dot bright additions: Primary Arms PLX NOVA 1-8×24, Delter Stryker HD 1-6×24, Vector Optics Continential Fiber Optics1-6×24, Trijicon Credo HX 1-6×24.
Well put together video! I went with the Burris rt6 due to Philippine glass. And yes w/ more affordable lines they do tend to flush out with bright light. At some point I’ll either aim for a trijicon or shill out for a nightforce 😅
Thanks for dropping a line. Do you like your rt6 besides the brightness?
@@compulsivegunbuyer it’s one of the better affordable lpvo within the $400ish range if you’re getting into it or looking for a general purpose use. In my opinion it’s for the persons philosophy of use. Once I start another pew project I’m sure I’ll be more familiar with the optical setup haha. The vids you put up guide me into what I should be looking for 💯
@@11Sunbird11 that's great to hear. Thanks!
Well you see the great thing about LPVOs is that you literally don’t need illumination during the day at all. The reticle is there no matter what
Yep, I make that point too.
@@compulsivegunbuyer guess I should’ve watched the video before commenting 😅
Good job on the scale. I agree there is a weird cult of nuclear bright requirement guys. I have the nova and it’s just like the razor 1-6 but lighter and cheaper but poorer glass. The credo 1-6 has 3 models in red. I own SFP BDC credo and it’s daylight bright but not red dot bright, but if it were brighter it would wash out the center. The ffp is daylight bright but it’s less than the SFP. The Trijicon line has large reticles on 1x so that means it’s tougher to illuminate because of surface area. The VCOG 1-8 is daylight bright as well. I had a green 1-6 VCOG and it was only usable indoors, or in the woods.
The atacr is red dot bright.
People forget that if you’re outdoors on a cloudy day or in the woods your brightness will be easier to pick up.
Great info. Thanks for contributing!
1st gen ATACR 1-8 and it is definitely red dot bright. If dimmer then NX8 it's ever so slight and I'm unable to tell. Never had to turn all the way up in bright sunlight.
That's what I'm hearing. Sounds like the pst is also maybe only daylight visible or at least dimmer than some of the other red dot bright ones.
Athlon Cronus 1-6 gen 2 SFP. Daylight visible outdoors, daylight bright during the daytime indoors.
I've owned both the vudu 1-8 and vudu 1-10. I'd say the 1-10 is just daylight visible and the 1-8 squeaks into daylight bright. Using my friends ATACR in my opinion it's definitely red dot bright. About as bright as a razor 1-6 in my experience
Thanks for the input, friend.
A uniform measurement tool might be to set a red dot to an equal brightness level of the LPVO in a side-by-side comparison. For example, my Delta Stryker HD 1-6 on its max setting of 11 is equal to my Aimpoint T2 at 11 of 12. And it doesn't have to be a T2, as any common red dot will be somewhat useful to the community as a whole.
Yeah, we are thinking along the same lines. The problem here is that you might limit the number of people you can crowdsource information from to only those with that particular red dot.
Leupold mark 6 1-6 is red dot bright
Delta stryker 1-6 and Steiner PX4i 1-4, both are red dot bright
Something that I learned from watching/reading Ilya Koshkin, a.k.a. the Dark Lord of Optics, is that it's more difficult to make a very bright dot on a first focal plane optic. I can't explain it, so don't ask me to.
He speaks the truth
I love acss, but if the something in-between that and trijicon id be thrilled
What do you mean by in between?
I’ve owned both the Razor 1-10 and ATACR 1-8 and can say that their brightness is hard to tell which is brighter. Ultimately kept the Atacr due to better 1x without illumination. Thicker stadia and less fisheye made it a better option for me. Illumination is nice, but as Hop or Brass facts said” LPVO battery life is measured in minutes”
Thanks for the input. Sounds like the ATACR should move up a tier.
U aren't wrong. However, this review was clearly produced with an affluent viewing audience in mind. thinking, DUMB might just be the best i can do.. hell, that'd be on our best day. 😊
Just keep in mind that I am only discussing illumination here. There are plenty of great scopes with crappy illumination.
ATACR belongs in the "Red Dot Bright" category.
That's what I've heard since posting this video. Thanks for the feedback!
Yea VUDU is just as bright as a VCOG 1-8x, at most I would say daylight visible
👀
k16i 3gr is DLV. Nova is RDB for sure. Arrowhead r/g are barely DLV. Credo 8x r/g is DLV. gen 1 strike eagle was not DLV. PST1-4 is DLV.
Strike Eagle 1-8 gen 1 on overcast day it’s daytime visible. as soon as suns out it’s a joke
Yeah, I'd throw that in the last category.
my HiLux is daylight bright, and cast a lot less than the so called top brands
Arken SH4 is dumb tier, Arken LP8 is daylight bright.
Thanks for contributing! How do you like the Arken optics?
