Its nice to see that Bauer finally adopted 1990's roller blade technology
exactly what they feel like, 90's rollerblades
"Oh look, the TRS Lightnings are back" - me
Exactly what I thought when I saw them at first :).
ya, my son started eishockey...and i dont get this oldschool skates. wtf are those?!
Exactly, I had those same clips on my first pair of roller blades. They were fragile as well.
The skate of the future looks remarkably like the roller blades of the ‘90s.
Looks like a reinvented Bauer Turbo i had as a kid...
Old is the new New.
@@james82182 That's the way with LPs and records today too.
Pretty cool
For the reasonable price of $900...
Pretty cool, looks like they took the technology available for ski boots and transferred it to skates. Had pretty much the same heating and molding process done to my ski boots when I first bought them
It’s weird to walk in ski boots. They’re completely rigid and don’t flex. Now compare that to skates that “feel like wearing a pair of tennis shoes. The racket binding straps aren’t the highlight here lol.
The hinge goes back a long way. I'm 55, I used Lange skates in pee wee in the 70s. Someone else mentioned Microns, I also used them back in minor hockey. All molded skates with liners. They were pretty good as I recall. I've been using "normal" skates for many years now. Interesting to see the updated version with, as someone mentioned, a roller blade style way of securing them on your feet.
These remind me , as far as their appearance, of my late 1970s microns which I wore for over twenty years and kept hanging on the wall for another twenty. Cold stuff .
I haven't purchased ice hockey skates in many years. But my favorite were CCM that had Reebok air pumps built into the skate tongue and ankles. I didn't have to worry about tightening my skate laces too tight. With the Reebok pump, it made it quick /easy to tighten the skates during games (wish I had them years ago when I was a kid, when my skates got loose and I didn't time to tighten properly on the bench, it had a impact on my skating / playing ability.
The 652s
i just typed about em. Something about how the tounge felt when lacing em up . Felt so good with the extra tightness at top or bottom . Loved that skate and then went back to graf lol
I had those with the little Instapump doohickey you put a CO2 cartridge in. Loved those damn skates and ended up converting them to roller. Wore them for YEARS.
I would imagine it will help with lowering the stress on the ankles and knees….maybe even the hips in the long run? It’s time that the gear catch up to help with goalies being able to stay in the game longer as they age. Good vid KVG, interesting to see how they hold up through the years/s.
I'm still using my Reebok 7K pumps build like a tank.
My favourite part was this is not scripted, followed by thank my friends at Bauer 😂
“Or technological advantages, I don’t know… whatever you guys want me to say” “these thing are fricken sick, this is not scripted”😂
I wore a pair of Lange skates in college when they first came out in 1974, they had the same type of hinge as these Bauer. Everyone thought I was crazy but they were the comfortable pair of skates you could get at that time and on top of that they gave you great protection.
Heat molding skate boots for a custom fit is an industry standard that has been around for decades. Competitive skaters use high end heat molded boots for best fit and performance.
Welcome to the world of ski boots, bin doing this for a long time…
I see the 90's are coming back strong. Had a pair of K2's with the buckle and all it takes is one hit to that buckle! Let me know when Bauer brings back the classic Supreme 3000's with the leather boot and i'll buy a pair.
Like the video. Skates have come so far since the days of tube skates being the new big thing. We used to get "baked" at the skate shop in the '80s, but it was a totally different thing. Subscribed!
reminds me of my old pair of microns I used to have!
Back to the Future!
1985 Microns! 🤣
@@dallasbiggz7007 hahaha
exact method for ski boots. surprised no-one has thought of doing this before.
Right? I used to get mold fit for ski boots like 20 years ago.
During the cooling/icing process I would stand for those eleven minutes, and maybe even walk around. Your feet change shape as soon as you stand, flattening your arch, widening your foot print etc. When I heat form new snowboard boots I’ll slip on the same sox I ride with, lace/clamp them up to my riding tightness and walk/stand around in them for 10-15 minutes
When baking in general it’s recommended you sit upright and still
@@GlookieKilla I would be curious to try both methods and then spend the day riding and see which felt better.
You will ruin the skates, don't wanna mess with them while hot.
We do the same for ski boots. Same technology and idea. Even put your toes on a 2x4 but that’s not needed for hockey
what? it sounds like you've only "played" hockey by browsing reddit hockey threads about playing hockey lmao
My Bauer Custom Form Fit 3000 skates also had a heat molding process and that was 30 years ago.
Looks like just pure gold to kvg mat black
These look pretty good. I still use my Lange Goalers from 1978,and these would be a good upgrade, except for maybe the steel of the blades. The steel on the Lange Goalers is premium stuff, and my skate sharpening guys always loved to work on them.
I also have the Lange, and thought these look like the Lange, even with the footbed insert.
Not started to crumble ? Don't overtighthen the laces, suddenly the plastic tears out.
www.iceskatehistory.co.uk/lange I have this type: www.iceskatehistory.co.uk/img_skates/lange_skates/lange_goalie1.jpg
Ski boots do hinge like that in the back. They also mold them just like that. To me it looks like they put a skate on the bottom of ski boots.
There were something similar in the 80s made out of hard plastic. The shoes broke when the temperature went below -15c ;)
Me too. I had a pair of plastic molded skates with removable liners and a hinged heel joint. Theres really nothing new here, history just repeats itself lol
I just bought a pair and its insane how it helps level up my game.
Buddy spent 1000 dollars on beer league skates
@@paypur So what? I smell jelly.
@@paypur well my wife bought it for Christmas present
@@paypur Words of people that can't.
@@PeteNice29 i can but im not a tendy and dont care about beer league
Took this long for someone to put a ice chassis on a rollerblade boot lol
Ski boot
As they say, sometimes there's a reason things haven't been done.
Nah not a ski boot, definitely more of a rollerblade boot. It's all for the greater good of ice hockey though I guess, everyone will be doing them soon enough and then the technology of having a cuff will just get better and better 👍👍👍
They had Lange skates 40 years ago . They were molded plastic with a liner in them . I still have a pair .
Me too except mine are probably closer to 50 😊
I didn't think anyone would remember them, I am a old timer and remember Lange. They didn't take off at first, but their was a kid who moved to our town, and he had molded skates. He was an incredible skater/player, so it drew interest.
Watching how your pads get kinda pushed towards the ice when flexing, it makes me think that ideally they'd probably develop a new boot design on the pad to compliment the konekt.
Warrior leg pads have the flattest boot channel. I doubt he will switch though.
The leg sauna part of the fitting process is straight up vibe
“are there any beers in the… connect… fridge? no? oh it’s cool…” had me cracking up
I have lived long enough to see the Bauer Turbo come back, and as a top of line groundbreaking tech.
Lot of comments here about 1990s roller hockey skates. I remember back in the early 90s when the CCM Kevlar Taks actually came out....at the time those things were so badass. This kind of reminds me of that but they also look like Mission skates a little bit to me.
Those were the days man, too bad roller hockey is pretty much dead here on the East Coast.
They brought the lange skates back from the 70’s😂
So true!!
....that boot design has been around for awhile, but I can't believe it took so long to take it to the ice. Pretty cool, I like them ...
roller blade boot with blades ... I still have my old school CCM 652's with the reebok pump system on the tounge and loved em and then I went back to graf and eventually the first ever vapor 10 skate and been a bauer vapor skater for yrs now
I picked up a pair. Sure I am a beer league plugger that plays for fun but i gotta say, when the league needs help to fill in spots on a night where ppl cant make the game, playing three in a row, its amazing to click, click. out of the skates, fresh socks, click, click and ready to rock again. worth every peny to stay fresh and dry LOL
I bought probably the one of the first pair of Lang hockey skates that were all plastic while everybody else had super tack hockey skates I found a pair on eBay for $265 what a great looking pair of skates
That’s at the chesterfield location!!
Just a thought. Since the foot changes shape when you are standing up and since ice hockey is not played while seated, shouldn’t the process have been done while standing?
Old Bauer turbos coming back I see. Full circle
Worked in a sporting goods shop in the 80’s. I watched Bauer do this with a skate to a high school hockey player in 1986. They custom molded the skates to his foot. Not new, just redone.
The way it moves reminds me of my roller blades so they finally took technology from roller blades and put them on ice skates
I find roller blade straps very limiting compared to laces.
Best skates I ever had were Lange with the hard boot and soft inner boot my dad bought me in 1974 or 75 and they lasted for decades.
Amen. Ist generation Langes were great. Used them through the 70's until they disappeared (ripped off) at rink. It will be interesting to see what the forward/defenseman version will be like if they continue with the development/design process.
Game changing
Love mine. I do get minor discomfort in my low arches but I think that’s just my feet. I also have superfeet comfort in mine and Tydan SAM profiled steel. I have the top buckle as tight as possible and the bottom buckle micro adjustment all the way tight and then on first notch.
Most people testing Konekts online complain about pain in the feet. Common problem with ski boots.
@@m____w____6981 no pain no gain.
I always take my laces out of the top two loops to get the ankle mobility while still having tight skates. these look so nice, probably will be my next pair
your skates are engineered for maximum energy transfer from your feet to the ice. Use all your eyelets they are there for a reason. when players dont lace their skates correctly they are losing agility speed and safety.
Lol you trying to break your ankles?
@@HellcatM6 yep. Too Snek is beyond stupid. Just another tool that thinks he is smarter than everyone. Meanwhile he probably looks like a bender.
The hot molding technique has been used on in line skates for years. For athletes, a complete mold of the foot is made, and the boot is constructed per foot as we know our feet are not exactly the same.
I used to do in line marathons, and I have a pair of those molded to my feet skates. I don't think the ice skates require that technique. The lacing is still best for comfort. I maybe wrong, we will see as the time goes by.
My skates are like 20 years old. I would to try these babies. So cool
Use to wear Langs, same concept
Current tech for the 80’s Orbit/Micron hockey boots. Lol.
Lange Skate from the 80’s to 2022
Kvg videos are better then Saturday morning cereal with marshmallows. Did you edit this on the shredder bleep sky app??
They need to have binding extensions for wide ankles. We tried them on but the binding couldn't even connect around the ankles. Just like skiing boots, there should be binding extensions.
The metal toothy section that is on that strap can removed by two screws and adjusted wider or narrower. See 9:54 on this video ruclips.net/video/FKAAx1jPtM8/видео.html
Lol they look like Micron’s from the 80’s. I wonder if the liners come out for the washing machine like they did on the Micron’s.
lol cf logo under that thicc ice. I recognize that rink.
Glad to see hockey skates finally adopting arlo eisenburg level technologies for 2023. Crocs dont need a fancy oven either... Just use the dryer or a hair dryer
Ex hockey player/skier here. I used to get my ski boots molded like this 20 years ago. It works great, but molding always triggered my OCD. Like, it's permanent once cooled down, so I was always worried they wouldn’t be perfect.
I wished that they existed in my time (pre 2015). It was a huge pain with those darn laces. Same thing with those current almost strapless leg pads! I remember that it was almost "obligatory" in 90's for a leg pad to having 11 straps! Some teammates even got furious at me when I didn't used those 2 first upper straps, because I saw Hasek doing it. None pro goalies today had survived with those terrible equipments of 90's, wooden goalie sticks weighted like 10x more than composite goalie sticks!
i remember when i got my first brand new set of Brown Elites, i ended up just using the bottom 2 straps lol. my goalie days are long gone. 2 hip replacements . I got to say I am so jealous of the leg pads these days. paper thin and designed to the new style of goaltending which would have suited my style back in the day perfectly.
How has he never baked skates? For anyone who hasnt bought skates since 2002, baking skates to help break em in has been a thing for 20ish years... I cant do the bauer rossingnols l.
Basically old Microns with modern guts.
How does the quality feel? Having a single point that clips across the foot held with a small metal pin seems like a fail point. How do they hold up over the course of a season?
If this is the future I want to live in the past
There is a 100% correlation between getting these for free and liking them. People who pay are displeased in general.
#MeToo
How do I get hockey skates like those
Are we back in the 70’s with a reincarnation of Lange skates?
I wore those Lange skates back in the day. I loved them
I never liked the Langes because the inserts were dog-doo-doo
So are these types of skates only for goalies, or for outfield players as well?
nice to know that skates are now more than goalie pads
Been a goalie for years and I am pretty sure when I say, those player blades will not hold up to puck shots. I get the molded boot. It's like the white goal skate boot, but I can't see the blade holing up.
My Lange's did the same thing back in 1977! Big deal.
Anyone remembers Microns? Lol. There back
U said they were light but they weight more than normal skates, yes there great i have a pair but they hurt like hell the first 2-3 ice times but after that they are really comfortable. For a real review thats not paid off they are great but are noticeably heavier.
I just got some generic rollerblade straps and BOOM Konect skates!
Are they only goalie skates?
Those fasteners are great on stilts. I need some.
Are they specifically goalie skates?
But what about this ankle support- do they not make you more vulnerable to n ankle injury? Can’t get my head around it…
I've been looking for non-shoestring ice skates ⛸️ and hocky skates for decades. Where do I buy a pair of size 13?
Please check out top ten aggressive Inline skates, they have good technology
Lange said "Hey, wait a minute!"
The NB’s are swaggy
We've been heat molding skates for decades now.. But I'll stick with my Graf Supra 703's anyday.
is there any beer in that?
had me laughing
The true pads next ti the oven look sick
So it's been almost a year, how do you still feel a bout them? Holding up good? Buckle issues? What sz skate were you using and now what sz in these are you wearing? I'm a 7.5 normally.
Are these just for goalies? I see pucks exploding the buckle components for everyone else.
What did you mean by no other skate uses heat molding? My son’s last two pairs of True skates were molded the same way…
ive been wearing these my whole life
Oh and now they need to come out with 3 different blade replacement profiles.
1-round toes. gets rid of the point and lets you go down quicker. with a center 10 foot profile
2. 1-round toes. gets rid of the point and lets you go down quicker. with a rear lean profile.
3-round toes. gets rid of the point and lets you go down quicker. with a forward lean profile
you guys wont believe the difference
once you do it you will never go back tot
Did you have them profiled at all?? Or right out of the box sharpened and go?
I love your videos
Are these only available in goalie skates?
i like my skates to be sharpened at quarter cut and had em custom radius
Hey KVG…love the channel, love the insights.
Fun question, hopefully with no judgement. I am a beer league goalie, started in my 30’s and love it. I’ve never used anything but entry level goal skates…started with Bauer Supreme One60…switched up to S27’s…finally GSX’s. I’m finally deciding to put some money on my feet. I’m not prepared to go full custom, but if you had the choice between a pair of Ultrasonics at a good price Bauer Pro or a pair of Konekt skates at full pop…what are you taking and why?
Reminds me of the Microns that Mark "Harpo" Hardy used to wear..
So Bauer is the first skate manufacturer to learn how ski boots work?
So how much did they pay you to hype up their stuff?
It's about f#$king time!!! I'm a Canadian man in my 50s. I've been on skates 4 times in my life and it's all because skates are hands down the most uncomfortable things ever. These skates look like I may want to rethink things... thanks
I remember in 1992 I bought a pair of plastic skates like that. They were black, but had neon laces. All the other kids made fun of me. They weren't good skates. Bauer Turbos maybe?
Same process high end cycling shoes and speedskates have used for years
I've been seeing a lot of negative reviews on these. How do you like them now that you've spent time with them?
Are these suited more towards goalies, with all that flex?
These are goalie skates, so yes.
Anyone seen My Bauer 2000's? I left them at my fraternity house in the late 80's.
love ur vids
My favorite skates were the 1998 Baur Vapors.
