3:05 I like how you just casually mention this absolute game-changing feature. Clear prints is something that I've always just assumed would never be possible in 3D printing. At least not with out weird workarounds.
All you that thumbs up! Please spread the word and please spend that few seconds and send the Prusa team an email to ask them not to remove the setting!!!!
Just to want to say I love these videos. They're concise, and your approach explains everything without dumbing it down too much OR assuming too much from your users. Really impressed, thank you!
I can't get over how good PE Slicer is... like leaps and bounds more advanced than slicers that come with $20,000 printers like a Markforged. You guys are amazing.
At 7:20 you mentioned about fuzzy edges after ironing. Cura got crucial modifier for that called "Ironing Inset". That modifier let you set the distance how far from the edge the ironing should finish (in milimeters od fraction of milimeter). It basically eliminates the problem with fuzzy edges. This is extremely important, especially on objects with rounded edges. This video was prepared 2 years ago for PrusaSlicer 2.3. Now we have official 2.6 version and equivalent of that function is still not present in PrusaSlicer. Do you think about solution to "fuzzy edges" on ironed objects and when can we expect it?
The new Prusa Slicer 2.3.0 is a very useful further development. Have been using this version for a few days and the new features like ironing work fantastic. To the Prusa development team: You did a great job. Thumb up!
Same - s3d got me hooked, but the bs they're pulling with paid upgrades on an 'all upgrades included' price bait and switch...followed by other slicers getting some crazy cool features, it's probably not a bit step to change.
I really appreciate all the features that are being added to the FREE software. Somewhat amazed that it's still free given all it has to offer. Thank you, Prusa!
Earlyer this Year you talked about non planar slicing and if its worth it. A good start would be to enable such a feature for just the last few layers. You wouldnt have to modify your printer with a longer nozzle and you could cover the print steps on almost-planar areas. that would be a big increase to prints that have round tops like heads or so.
That is a pretty cool implementation, Well done boys and girls, Yet another fine example of why someone should buy from Prusa over a Chinese POS, When the last time someone heard of them innovating to an already existing product like Prusa has time and time again.
Well it's slicer option and actually has nothing to do with printer itself. I did this first time quite a while a go on my Chinese POS Anet A6 with Cura. It actually worked really well. It's really nice to see that I can _finally_ use this feature with my Prusa.
It was THE feature i missed grom Cura, glad to see it here :) There are other stuff in cura, but they are much, much more situational, whereas this will be useful often :) Next thing i hope will be fuzzy skin :)
I’d love to see an ironing inset, which offsets the distance of the ironing path from the perimeter. That’s also implemented in cura and I found, that it vastly improves the quality of edges.
Another thing to keep in mind when ironing that I discovered playing around with one of the alphas of 2.3, make sure you have plenty of top layers and/or the top layers are well supported. I did a sample print with very few top layers (3 I think) and because the nozzle spends so much time going over the top that it became soft and started to droop a little between the support of the infill.
They should have the option to exclude perimeters / set distance away from edge for ironing. For the perimeters maybe have the option to print the top infill first, iron it, then print the perimeters.
Would it not be beneficial if you could set another temperature for ironing? I guess it's easy enough to manually play with temperature in the gcode, but i think it would be a nice feature to add into the slicer.
This is cool! Is the time for each feature type shown in this video part of the 2.3 release too? I'm on 2.2 and can't find out how to get it to appear.
I have had some issues with a 0.25mm nozzle and ironing. It gives a nice finish but the nozzle tends to clog. I wonder of there could be a series or retractions to keep the filament moving a bit... I am using a Hemera but it sort of looks like there is some softening... perhaps a temperature for ironing? This would allow some great customizing.
Fuzzy skin is still something I really would like to see in PS. Especially together with an anti-ironing rough top surface mode and textured built plate 😍
Yes i am aware of that thank you, but i mean an actual option. For example a loot of my prints have a very complex top surface like a Name or something and then its verry hard do make the right modifiers.
Good overview of this new feature! Excited to play with it more. BTW what is that amazing spool holder you have there that shows off all your amazing Prusament rolls like that?! 😉
Hi there! Is there an option to turn Ironing on, but letting the perimeters untouched (without having to do tricky things, like importing an personalized model, with offset surfaces, that exclude the the perimeters or changing the gCode). If not, I think, that could be a nice and relatively easy to implement option, that would help to keep edges clean and sharp while keeping almost all the surface smooth and flat. Btw, very nice and comprehensive video :)
Even if it’s some functional part that it’s hidden somewhere that no one will ever see, I try to make them as nicely looking and crisp as possible… am I weird for this? The ironing feature is really awesome.
I have tow halves of an object that need to be mated to each other and have been placing these mating surfaces down into the print bed using PrusaSlicer. Would "Ironing" these surfaces provide a smoother surface than printing flat to the print bed? I ask because it still does not have a tight fitment. Thanks for any directions.
My nozzle kept on clogging when Ironing. So I came here to find out how switch it off. But even the UI you show here is not the same as the version you show here. But thanks. I still learned something.
