I bought The Witching Hour in 1990 at a grocery store checkout. I was 14 years old and an avid reader. I have the book today and reread when I can. It's absolutely mesmerizing and haunting and has been seared into my memories. Anne's description of New Orleans...its oak trees, houses in the Garden District and wrought iron gates... is forever in my mind. I finally visited New Orleans in 2019 precisely for these descriptions still haunting me. I haven't seen this series yet, but I know I will have to view it as an adaptation and nothing else. I wish I could get an epic Lord of the Rings treatment of the material, but I know it will never happen. Even so, it will be interesting to watch. AMC did an amazing job with The Walking Dead, so I'll give this a shot.

I must express my admiration for Jack Huston's portrayal of Lasher. His interpretation is decidedly superior to the original character depicted in the book. The latter, being rather infantile and problematic, is not quite apt for our current societal norms. Jack Huston's rendition, however, preserves the seductive and cunning traits of Lasher, while also instilling a degree of endearing charm. His character is the embodiment of a villain shrouded in complexity, a refreshing deviation from the stereotypical antagonist. It seems to me that only an actor of Huston's calibre could breathe life into such a complex character, skilfully balancing the villainous traits with an air of relatable humanity. His performance is layered, nuanced, and downright captivating. With great anticipation, I await the next season, as I am eager to see how Huston further develops this compelling character. His portrayal of Lasher is truly a masterclass in characterisation. A job well done, indeed.
She'll always be Pudge from Shag for me. My first teenage screen crush 🙂Now she's all grown up and has turned into the same old overly thin Hollywood manbot thing as the rest of them. Oh well, great memories Annabeth luv. I wonder what happened to the rest of the cast. I daren't look 🙄😉
You were amazing as Deirdre! Young Deirdre was very good as well. However, the casting and portrayal of the other characters was very disappointing as was all the other charges Spalding did. I know changes need to be made and that a book of over 1000 pages cannot be brought to life on screen exactly as it was. Spalding missed the mark. Getting rid of characters creating new characters only to be destroyed, as a waste of time. Rowan on screen is so weak in comparison to the book. It’s not the fault of the actress. So much more to say but it will likely be deleted. ☹️
@@ladyofbast250 There's a lot of people who feel this way. The actors DO NOT fit the characters. Lasher is actually ridiculous. He was sexy and seductive. But at times childlike and mischievous. And his anger was scary as hell. He was nothing like that in the series. But, I really didn't think he would be after I saw just what they did with Interview With the Vampire. What a train wreck. And the Mayfair Emerald. Wth?? They wasted so much potential. Cut out too many characters. And they made the family look like a bunch of weird cultist witches lol. Sad and awful the way they treated two of her best series.
@@aprilgoff583 yes! Where was Lashers childish reactions and thinking? Carlottas portrayal wasn't bad, but she is the only character I can think of that was even close. If only HBO had picked it up then we might have gotten our story instead of this fanfic version.
The book is amazing, but the casting director should be replaced. The cast is completely off. I wish I could get into this more, I really tried to like it. The actress that plays Rowan is everything you want her to be as far a looks are concerned but, not Rowan. Lasher is supposed to be irresistible, charming, and gorgeous. He just comes off creep'ish. It's a hard sell, that everyone of the Mayfairs fell for this guy 🤔

I definitely request to continue the crossover trend with a spell, seance, dishware, furniture, or a dream walk for us fans!!❤
I can't get over the fact that they made a choice to do away with the Muchael Curry character...major fail.

He is ancient. Not everything and everyone will fit "current societal norms".

I really needed to see there were other people as frustrated as I am with everything you said. 😖

It's Lasher. Duh or the ghost of Julien Mayfair
