Drew you should be setting your bar to 25% to begin with, don't expand until your score hits 1000, then drop the bar down to 10% for the rest of the game. You'll be able to kill people 2-3 times your size early game.
spawn in the open, begin with 50%, attack roughly in the middle of each cycle with 50& until 4t attack, but specifically when your balance reaches 711, then 1065, then 1634, then >2500. after that go for 10-20% and attack smallest surrounding bots

Everytime the bar is filled you get your score/territory added to your troop count. The other source of troops is interest on the far right. It starts over 6% and decreases over time. There is a maximum troop count per size of territory. Your interest will slowly decrease to 0% as you reach that size limit. If you attack someone with 50% of troops or more, you lose the benefits of the interest rate. If you slowly launch 10-20% attacks you can keep the pressure on an opponent while still gaining decent amounts of troops back from interest.
The alliance game is only fun mabye 20% of the time. The other 80% you'll either be in the wrong spot of the map and get torn up by several co=operating players of another team or get cut off from expansion routes by your own team. My favourite thing is when a bot from my own team cuts off my only available expansion route by beating me in attacking a weak neigbhour by 0.5 seconds. At least you can send resources to other players then...

I won one on the Balcans and I gotta say, you just have to let other smaller competitors attack the bots while you bulk up your troops. Then, when they are weak, if 25% is 10k, you send like 1k or 2k with a pace. Free land is always for 1k troops, though you'll ned to click twice or thrice When people start getting to the hundred thousands is the same, just bulk up. Then it gets to the millions and that's when the game starts

How long it took to learn music
If you take over all the tiny islands, it would take hours to send out enough naval invasions to finish you off.
If you want a tip, attacking by boat actually is better because it attacks with less “casualties”
