- Seattle Public Schools, the largest school district in the state, is suing major social media companies behind TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, RUclips, and Snapchat over their impact on youth mental health.
Attorneys said Seattle Public Schools (SPS) may be the first district in the country to sue social media companies. The 92-page lawsuit claims the social media giants violated Washington’s public nuisance law and intentionally contributed to the youth mental health crisis in the state.

Sue the school system for not preparing students for real life jobs
That's not what school is for.
@@skankhunt3624 you're right.... it's for indoctrination.
@@skankhunt3624 Exactly, indoctrination is what the school system is for.
@@skankhunt3624 School is only for entry level jobs when you graduate. If you are very skilled at entertaining others you might not even need to graduate. People have made a lot of money entertaining others here on RUclips of course that is their job.
Where are the parents? How did the kids get these phones? Just because social media is there does not mean we need to use it.
Ikr. Parents need to monitor these things.
It's just asking for a platform to do their part in protecting kids.
@@SecretCollage they are letting these kids roam the jungle and expecting the lions to keep them safe
How exactly does the school get to sue anyone for somebody else's children?
💯‼️‼️ Especially when their teaching half the crap & the other half are on it too ‼️
If it affects the community in whole they have every right to sue media giants
@Rolling Withthepunches With the cost of living, usually both parents have to work. If there is only one parent then they might have multiple jobs. So no time for the children. Go play at a friend's house or go to the mall while I am at work. Just be back when I get off work.
@@WilloG916 If the schools somehow win this is going to open multiple lawsuits. Companies will sue, governments will sue. It's a personal choice where or not you spend time online.
Should raise that age to 18 or 21. All these companies are preying off the kids and their parents are not doing anything about it. Parents should also be held responsible.
So.. you can die for the military.. but you can't have a drink, can't have tobacco, and can't use social media?
I though this was a FREE country..
You do know kids just lie to get around that right? I always did as a kid. If they don't ask for person information that they can verify then there is no way for them to know your true age. Also asking for a credit card can get kids into stealing their parents cards. For me asking fir a credit card to prove age was a deterrent. Just went to another site that didn't ask for proof of age.
@@TheCompbuzz Kids will lie and its the parents responsibility to manage them. But these days, a lot of parents couldn't even manage their own lives.
IT IS ABOUT TIME!
I sure hope thousands and thousands of other schools will follow suit. Literally!
Ever since these social media giants took over our lives, mental health has taken a nose dive.
Time to take our lives back.
You don't have to use them. I don't, except for here if that even counts. I'm living just fine without them.
BTW, where's the parental control? This is pure BS.
Has your own mental health declined due to social media?
That’s a personal problem, not social medias.
Leftists run all of them.
Musk is kickin ass though.
Let's put responsibility were it belongs. The medium of social media itself is not to blame ... Users let it "overtake" their lives. Simple solution; stop using it. IF place your hand in the fire and get burned...do you blame the fire for getting burned or yourself for putting your hand in the fire?
Good! Let's all follow suit!
So the parents of these students have no responsibility when they don’t give their kids any boundaries, just buy them the latest smartphones and send them away then act funny when kids are addicted to certain apps? If one app is shut down, another one pops up. Are they going to sue all new social apps? 😂😂😅
Do you have kids
Bingo. Parents give the kids these phones as a distraction so they don't have to deal with them. Then social media is blamed for the problem.
This is awesome to see, however I’m guessing the teachers have something to do with it as well, seeing as they are all on Tik Tok making the same videos that are driving the kids crazy.
💯‼️‼️
Sounds like parents aren't doing their job.
Please make this a trend that goes viral.
Seattle? Really? Can they sue themselves too while they're at it? Do we not remember how bad the leaders are up there letting criminals run havoc?
So , teachers are saying that teachers are unable to teach ..
A lot of parents see teachers as baby sitters and some of the students see the teachers the same way.
Stuck it to them, it's about time. They've had it all their way for far too long.

I'm afraid this is an improbable win on this lawsuit, you can't just sue companies that have online presences. They might as well just "sue the internet!" Like China's TikTok could even be won against, lol. PARENTS are the ones responsible and who need to change their children's mental health instead of letting them suffer out of ignorance on these readily-agreed horrible, sick, and hatefilled sites.
Why don't you ALSO sue "Black Lives Matter" and "ANTIFA" while you're at it ?
They shouldn't even dignify any kangaroo court that takes up this ridiculous case with a response.

ABOUT TIME !!! Cell phones should be age restricted like alcohol. Not until 18. at all....
Unfortunately it still going to depend on the parents. Also kidnappers would love it if your child doesn't have a phone. Any smart kidnapper would ditch the phone anyways, but the child might have taken the kidnappers picture which is now in the cloud and the kidnapper has no way to delete it without the password. Phone can also be a safety net for children too.
@@TheCompbuzz Ah, so, we should have cameras in your house, monitoring your every movement to make sure YOU aren't a kidnapper, or that YOU might not violate any of the Millions of laws ... Cell phone tech robs youth of their boredom, therefore they become the great massive boring. CHeers.

Reminds me of Big Tobacco 50-60 years ago. Designed a product to be addictive to make money in spite of known problems with health. I expect government to ban phones from k-12 schools like they did smoking.

It occurs to me that there is a simple remedy that one could utilize to avoid disturbing Contant on social media
It’s real simple do not engage or at the very least when you come across disturbing and upsetting content, turn it off, and if that doesn’t help, then, perhaps professional assistance may be necessary, addressing a social media addiction, even that of which is harmful signs of an addiction
It is a parents responsibility to keep their children safe, and sometimes that means saying no, and having your word understood by the children that it is in their best interest to do so
Set a lawsuit looks like shirking, parental accountability and flailing around for anyone and everybody but oneself and one’s family to blame
Suggestion look outside of yourself, absorbed existence and engage in reality and in doing so you will be informed that many children on this planet they’re living a reality that one with Dean deplorable and unlivable
If you’re seeking a oh cause and a lawsuit to pursue try, suing the United States government
The policies and practices of the United States manufacture the environment of poverty
The lack of having a codified living wage in, and that of a universal basic income has done and continues to do more harm to children than any social media site and the contents there in
The money spent on this lawsuit could assist the teachers and your children’s schools providing them with the classroom materials, of which they now spend their own money to equip their classrooms and the Much-needed teachers touch to educate your children
Absent that effort, then one could simply replace smart phones with dumb phones and your children to use a family computer and that would not be in there bedrooms
I direct your attention to Washington DC and the shenanigans and antics of the elected representatives. Yes, I’m speaking of Congress.
They take no responsibility for their behavior. They are blatant liars and blame anyone and everything instead of recognizing that they themselves are a detriment to this American experiment of democracy.
And now you wish to engage in a frivolous lawsuit, and occupying the courts in a in the pursuit to bring about a legal remedy that is well within your hands to do without the assistance of legal action
This looks a little like lazy parenting
Much like over indulging children is harmful lawsuits of this kind do not address what is at the root of the issue
Parenting in the 21st-century is an arduous task at the very least children are inundated with way too much information that they are not mature enough and mentally sophisticated to handle. This is understood.
Pursuing a lifestyle and parenting in the 21st-century and compatible parents, ultimately become the provider of consumer goods. Children are absent, the effort taken to attain the consumer items they so desire, and without them, their life is unbearable. This, too is understood.
Persistent, attentive, parental participation will go along way in setting the values of which you want to imprint upon your children and be the positive and productive citizens contributing to the shared experience, we call life
Flood the zone like and share this broadcast 0:13
The school is looking at a bigger picture if they somehow won. It would be like winning the lottery for the school district. These companies have billions of dollars in revenue. The school district doesn't really care about the kids they are using that as excuse to try to get big money from these companies.
You’re going to blame social media when it’s your teachers and administrations in schools that are doing this? 👍🏻
Its both, we should blame both. Ban tiktok, audit youtube, give people under 18 a monitored & controlled kids phone or no phone at all, and fire & prosecute every single teacher & administrator participating in this nonsense.
The internet didn't hold a gun to your head. Being smart and healthy comes from your parents and other influences, and YOU NEED TO CHOOSE THOSE over the net. The social media are not responsible anymore than society is for all of its evils. So, STOP blaming everyone/thing else, and GROW UP and TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for your OWN LIVES and MENTAL HEALTH. I've produced some videos to help you do just that, and will do more, but only WE can fix OURSELVES, as it starts inside us all ONLY.
Why does your child have a cellphone in the first place? Or social media?
Save the "safety" argument because that is BS.
The kidnappers want to know your child's location. A child without a cellphone might as well have a jacket with a bullseye on the back.
@@TheCompbuzz i would think without one is better.
because wouldn't kidnappers use your childs phone location to track them in the same scenario?

This sounds like the attack on music in the 80's.
What a joke haha are they going after tv news for increasing fear over COVID?

So whatever the reason I feel "sad" about should be banned?
I guess that movie that had a sad ending should be banned. If the movie that had a sad ending and you feel happy then something is horribly wrong.
just take away kids phones and tablets try going back to 1990
How were kidnappings in the 90's before tracking phones became a kidnappers worst nightmare.
Kinda like suing McDonald's for making people fat..

Unfortunately if everyone stopped eating there they would go out of business though. As it is their prices are too high so I go elsewhere.

If it wasn’t social media it would be a shopping addiction or party phone lines or one of many other ways children seek validation, suing these two social media companies that are not going address the problem when most are also using discord and Reddit. The lawsuit is frivolous
Also social media stops individuals from reaching that critical boredom state that allows Innovation and creativity to flourish.
@@skankhunt3624 so does television that’s existed for over 50 years too and the same argument used as well
One step at time.. but the important part is it's a step... to just throw it all up cause there are too many steps is idiocy..
@King DJ and you seem to forget that before social media it was games, and tv and magazines and movies and music, and other forms of entertainment that were accused of causing harm to children too, the problem isn’t social media or what type of entertainment they have, the problem is that children are not secure in their homes, in their communities or in society and blaming social media alone changes nothing
@@bad2thenucleus not this step though, children need healthy patents and a supportive community not less social media, that wouldn’t be a problem if children felt more secure in their own life
I disagree w/these actions bc replacing common sense & personal responsibility w/laws & regulations chips away at our freedoms. It's like outlawing offensiveness, when instead there s/b incentives for making rational, reasonable, personal choices. Instead of banning things, how bout educating parents about the dangers of social media? These children don't belong to the school system - they have parents, & this is yet another move to obscure parental rights, & usurp their authority over their own children. We are ADULTS, & don't need a paternalistic nanny state to make our personal decisions! If the govt treats adults like children, & that's the expectation of parents, then they'll just double down until we have no parental rights!l at all! The most prudent decision is to educate your kids at home, no matter what it takes - figure it out & do it! Make w/e decisions necessary, such as downsizing, joining forces w/other parents, etc. The govt will treat us as we allow them to!
Laws only matter if someone enforces them. They usually only enforce them if money is to be made.
Never gun companies, though.
Aww geezus. It's the blame game. Where's the parental control? This is pure BS.
