Yes, Optima Tax Relief has many poor reviews as well as many complaints leveled against it online, but - even if these poor reviews and complaints are true (they could of course be completely made up) - would that still make Optima Tax Relief a scam? Hear my answer in today's video!

    I am so glad I found your video, and read the comments.
    I decided not to go with this company (although I had made my initial payment) since they told me they could not guarantee they could get the IRS to lower what I owed, yet they wanted at least a third of what I owed upfront.
    Anyone reading this, check around before you decide to pay them on your first phone call.
    I called the IRS and the agreed to a lesser payment that Optima Tax wanted, and I am on a new payment plan.

    Question??? If you hold a private company stock certificate that’s was purchased at $1 per share for a total of $80,000. I am trying to cash in the stock but the company says they don’t have the money. Does this make the stock worthless? The company was a start-up 11+ years ago, I have tried to cash it in several times and have been given the same answer each time. If there is no longer any value is it worthless? How do I treat this?

    • @LoganAllec
      @LoganAllec  11 месяцев назад

      If the company is still operating, it may still have some value, so I'm not sure just because the company doesn't have the cash to give you when you want to cash it in that it could be considered "worthless" on those grounds alone.
      If you were to abandon the security by permanently surrendering and relinquishing all rights to it and receive nothing in exchange for it...then you could consider it worthless and take a capital loss.
      Or if that's not possible, perhaps you could sell the stock for some very low amount to someone and realize a capital loss that way.
      Note that capital losses can only be used to offset capital gains with any excess able to be deducted in the amount of $3,000 per year.
      Not tax advice.

      I'm long retired and my EA is inactive because I'd rather spend my time addressing hunger in one of the poorest counties in America.
      Still, my prior experience says I might be best served by the CPA I've trusted for years and the firm they recommend.

    I paid my last payment in 6/23 for Optima Tax to do my back taxes. I was told my case was closed, but I was supposed to be in their Fresh Start program. I still haven't heard anything in writing stating my case was closed and nor have I heard anything about whether or not my back taxes were even filed as of yet. It's not a good look when you're calling and only get to speak to a customer service rep who confirms your case is closed but you're not allowed to speak to an agent. There is a currently a Class Action Lawsuit against Optima Tax. So warning ⚠️ take your business elsewhere. Look at all the complaints filed through the BBB.

    The biggest thing you need to do is file any past due returns, be sure you are current in paying the right amount of withholding today, also look at the offer in compromise and read it, if you don't feel confident reach out to the Choice who makes this vid, certainly can't hurt.

      Don't hire them. They charged me almost 9 thousand dollars and insinuated that they were confident I would get my tax liability lowered... told me 90 + % of people were happy with the resolution they got.
      In the end, they didn't even ATTEMPT to get mine lowered, they told me I make too much money. This is something they knew BEFORE I hired them during the discovery phase. Not only that... the offer and compromise is a " courtesy " that they only do when they are done with your case and try to close it out!
      I intend to sue them.

      That price was to get us an installment agreement and a compromise/settlement. Needless to say after this mess is over with we will be asking for a refund because it’s been a disaster. Accounts levied even though we have an installment agreement. Spoke to the irs agent and he said he’s tried calling optima numerous times but he can’t get them on the phone to figure out what’s going on. I would just deal with the irs agent myself but optima has power of attorney so he can’t even talk to us. Ugh 😑

    • @LoganAllec
      @LoganAllec  7 месяцев назад

      @@brandyanderson939 Wow, I'm sorry to hear about your poor experience with Optima. It's kind of funky that they charged you to get you an installment agreement AND a settlement (offer in compromise). Usually, the final resolution is one of those two things - not both - unless they meant that they would get you into an IA to prevent levy action (which it sounds like did not work) while they were preparing the offer in compromise.
      In any case, it certainly seems that Optima is getting a lot of complaints lately, and you're not alone.
      Note that you can revoke Optima's POA; simply take a copy of the original POA (signed by both you and the Optima representatives), write "REVOKE" at the top, sign and date beneath the word "REVOKE", and mail or fax it to the correct address / fax number for your state in the "Where to File Chart" in the Form 2848 instructions.

Also keep in mind that this isn't based on much but again this is coming from a competitor, also let me reiterate that this is not biased from my experience, but from the looks of this , not saying I looked inside the office that they are working at , but let me remind you this is what it's based on and yes they sorta suck."

    • @LoganAllec
      @LoganAllec  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@oscarg.3330 My opinion is based on the multiple emails we receive every week from people who have used Optima and are now reaching out for help. Here's an excerpt from the most recent one: "People should be warned that Optima is not an ideal choice for tax assistance. $8000.00 later we owe 51% more than we did originally. They have done nothing. No, I mean nothing. No review of our case(they are still asking me for the tax years in question), no advisement, and no resolution in four years. And, yes, they are dishonest. They have blatantly made statements regarding our tax account that simply aren’t true…until you call their bluff. I asked for day, date, and time of their communication with the IRS. The manager stuttered, diverted, and initially refused to answer. I let her know that I never asked a question that I did not already know the answer to, and THEN she told the truth. As of December 2023, they had not contacted the IRS since March 2020. "
