Came here for your beginner tutorials, but I stumbled across this video. It's so good to hear other people talking about these experiences. I have had my fair share of underestimating and refunding clients. This video helps take the edge off a little! Thanks for sharing.

Fascinating stuff. It’s definitely true that people who don’t do 3D are going to struggle to understand how long a 3D project might take.

I have been lucky soo far with the client being highly professional ( and patient). it takes time for them to gather and write down a good brief but that will bee a big difference in the end. soo I agree documentation is important.

Honestly, as long as you get the work done by a deadline, it doesn't matter how long it takes you. Should you get paid less if you're super efficient or quick.

    • @grabbitt

      Yes in a way. :)

Honestly if I was done ahead of time I think I would just sit on it till almost the deadline and then they would never know. If you are getting paid by the job this should be ok. If you are getting paid by the hour then this would be really dishonest.

So how much for a rendering of a default cube?
Oh yes that sounds reasonable lets do it.
    . . . .
    How's this for you [ ] ?
That's great, now when the dancing elephants come in and play footsie with it, we'll be done.
I guess I'm a little more cynical than Grant, if someone led with shining text then down the line hugging kissing characters were tacked on, I'd be much less conservative in my review of the situation. ;)
Still, I'd prefer to live in his world.

Maybe for a tutorial try sculpting a face similar to Thomas the tank engine. Got a graphics tablet not sure how to use it. Baby steps for noobs like me. Thanks for reading this post.

It would make a great tutorial and would make good practice getting use to using a graphics tablet. If you told a young student that does not have much experience drawing 9 out of 10 times they would draw a simple face first then add other elements.
Just want to say thanks grant for all the help you have already given on my blender journey.

its sad that people who teach others there work and about the industry dont get that many views and then mean while a reaction channel gets way more views :(

Jo Grant, I didnt watch the video yet but Freelancing is a "hot" topic rn, what are legal issues that might occur if you are for example 17 years and dont pay taxes. In my country you can earn up to 450 or something like that and not pay taxes(totally fine as i probably would not earn more than that in the beginning anyway) but doesnt the person need to do something, to atleast make it possible to track where that income comes from? Also if he uses for example Fiverr anything there ? Btw the person i am talking about is not me ^^ I am older

    • @grabbitt
      @grabbitt  5 лет назад

That's a big topic and maybe I need to go into it in another video :)
