      Thank you for sharing your experience of owning two amazing Thangkas and your recommendation to go to Nepal to get one or more. Nepal is definitely a great place to find authentic and high-quality Thangkas, as well as Tibetan carpet shops in Kathmandu and Pokhara.
      Thangkas are not only beautiful works of art but also spiritual and cultural objects with deep significance in Tibetan Buddhism. It's important to understand the history and symbolism behind Thangkas before purchasing one, and to ensure that it was made with ethical practices and materials.
      If anyone is interested in purchasing a Thangka or Tibetan carpet in Nepal, I recommend doing research and talking to knowledgeable locals or reputable dealers to ensure that you are getting an authentic and ethically-made product. I suggest this store: buddhastoneshop.com/collections/thangka-paintings

They offer various courses in traditional Thanka painting, and I'm sure they would be happy to hear from you. You can check out their website (bstcthanka.com) for more information and contact details. Good luck with your visit, and I hope you have a great experience!

    4:00-4:10 I've never seen a Womb Mandala painted as a thangka. That's incredible.

    • @jetlagtravel
      @jetlagtravel  Год назад

      Thank you for your comment! Yes, the Womb Mandala is a unique and very significant aspect of Tibetan Buddhism, and it's not often depicted in Thanka paintings. The Womb Mandala represents the ultimate nature of reality and the interdependent nature of all phenomena. It's a complex and intricate symbol that requires a great deal of skill and knowledge to paint accurately. I'm glad you found it incredible and interesting. If you have any further questions or comments, please let me know.

    • @jetlagtravel
      @jetlagtravel  Год назад

      Learning Thangka painting, a traditional Tibetan Buddhist art form, involves a combination of practical skills, cultural understanding, and patience. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started:
      Understand the Art Form:
      Research and understand the history and significance of Thangka painting. Thangkas are often used as meditation tools and can depict deities, mandalas, and other spiritual symbols.
      Find a Teacher or Workshop:
      Look for local artists or art schools that offer Thangka painting classes. If there are no local options, consider online courses or workshops.
      Collect Necessary Materials:
      Thangka painting requires specific materials, including cotton canvas, natural pigments, brushes made from animal hair, and a wooden frame. Traditional Thangkas also often include gold leaf.
      Learn Basic Drawing and Painting Skills:
      Before diving into Thangka painting, ensure you have basic drawing and painting skills. Familiarize yourself with techniques such as shading, blending, and color mixing.
      Study Thangka Designs:
      Thangka paintings have specific iconography and design elements. Study traditional Thangka designs to understand the symbolism and composition. Books, online resources, and museums can be excellent sources for this.
      Practice Outlining and Composition:
      Thangkas often involve intricate outlines and precise compositions. Practice drawing and outlining before moving on to painting. Pay attention to proportions and details.
      Learn Color Theory:
      Thangka paintings use a specific color palette. Learn about the traditional colors used in Thangkas and their symbolic meanings. Practice mixing colors to achieve the desired shades.
      Practice Patience and Mindfulness:
      Thangka painting is a meditative process. Cultivate patience and mindfulness while working on your paintings. The process can be time-consuming, but the focus and concentration are essential aspects of this art form.
      Attend Workshops or Retreats:
      Consider attending Thangka painting workshops or retreats, especially those led by experienced Thangka artists. This immersive experience can provide valuable insights and guidance.
      Seek Feedback:
      Share your work with experienced artists or teachers to receive constructive feedback. This can help you identify areas for improvement and refine your skills.
      Continue Learning:
      Thangka painting is a lifelong learning process. Stay curious and continue to explore new techniques, styles, and subject matter. Attend exhibitions and connect with other Thangka artists for inspiration.
      Remember that learning Thangka painting is not just about mastering the technique but also about embracing the spiritual and cultural aspects of this ancient art form. Enjoy the journey and the meditative nature of creating Thangka paintings.

    The color composition, types of figures of any thangka is first obtained from translating the scriptures, one should be thorough in the Buddhist scriptures to make a thangka. There is an abundance of thangka artists that has sketches obtained from old masters or have the sketching skill from visualizing thangka from scriptures, but they use various color composition that doesn't convey the visualizations correctly which deters growth in ones dharma practices. So if you are a person seeking thangkas for dharma practices it would be unwise to buy thangka from just about anywhere. There is also a rampant semi- plagiarism of thangkas which are originally incorrect as well (ironic). So yeah, visit learned Buddhist scholars or high monks to know where you can find accurate thangkas.

      @jetlagtravel  Год назад

      Thanks for the insightful comment! You're absolutely right about the importance of accuracy in thangka art. I appreciate your perspective on this. If you have any recommendations on reputable sources for accurate thangkas or any other insights you'd like to share, please feel free to let me know. 🙏

    Plz try to explain the Thanka properly or first try to learn the Buddhist terms and study the text more thoroughly. This gives a bad knoqledge to people who are just new to Buddhism..

      Thank you for your feedback. I apologize if the explanation of Thanka painting in the video was unclear or inaccurate. I do my best to research and present information in a way that is accessible and understandable to a general audience, but I understand that there is always room for improvement.
      I appreciate your suggestion to study Buddhist terms and texts more thoroughly, and I will certainly take that into consideration in my future videos. I believe that it's important to provide accurate information and not mislead those who are new to Buddhism or any other topic.
      If you have any specific suggestions or corrections regarding the information presented in the video, I would be happy to hear them. Thank you again for your feedback and for taking the time to watch the video.
