Looks and sounds gorgeous!! Lovely to see you guys back in the new video room and the chillout lounge!! Looking forward to more baddassery in the future :) \m/
excellent excellent video. your technique and reviews have improved heaps. i should know ive been watching you guys for ages now. keep up the great work
I got one of those Jackson 8 strings in the background in transparent red. Absolutely beautiful guitar and plays and sounds great, and unreal cheap priced! Highly reccomended
Yup - new room & new mic... Not only did we all agree that the Sennheiser MD421 sounded "meatier" than the SM57, the new acoustically treated room allows us to use a bit more of the room mic without it sounding too boomy. Anyways.... thanks for the feedback.
No problem :) I'm glad I could shed some light on things for you. At least you know when Rob does respond to a comment it's genuine. He could very easily get somebody else to respond to all of them on his behalf, and then we wouldn't be having this discussion ;)
I have an EC Vibro Champ that wasn't much different in cost, and I absolutely love it. I would really like to pick one of these guys up from a collectable aspect. Btw, I like the new setup!
Also, the tone is classic vintage Marshall. The tone / sound of an amp is preference. What you think sounds bad may be exactly what someone else loves.
There's a "hairy", "fizzy" characteristic (IMO) that a lot of Marshalls have in the treble frequency - which I'm not a fan of. They do blend well in a band/live environment though. Well made video guys!
And you win the Comments Monitor of the Year Award! Interesting fact about this award is that this is only the 2nd time it's been awarded to a 40 year old virgin! Congrats!
you know, i think you're right. i think that comes with chappers' unique playing sorta character though. most of his distortion comes through his pick attack too.
depends on the dude setting it up, and on the fret leveling job. a good luthier could get you below 1 mm on the 1st and about 1.5 mm on the 6th string at the 12th fret, without any buzz.
There is. This amp is a copy of the old jtm's from 70's. Jtm 45 to be exactly so if you want that amp but in a bigger version then you could get an jtm from 70's and you are right, This amp sounds amazing!
Action can be changed, you could pull a less paul high enough for slide and have a strat so low that you can basically just tap out ever note instead of picking. The difference lies not only within the woods and the differnt bridges, but on strats they typically have single coils (even tho alot of them will have HSS or HSH) configurations for pickups, when a les paul just has 2 humbucks (3 if its a special). A single coil in the bridge bites hard, listen to a tele.Roll off the tone for less bite
It's utterly over me how in this world can a recording sound as bad as 4:25. It sounds like they are smashing the hell out of their A/Ds or something like that. Is not my intention to troll this video, but there are some serious technical issues here... :(
Are there any Gibson Les Pauls that don't have a nitro finish?? I thought they all did (except the odd cheaper model with no laquer finish at all). Certainly the Les Paul Juniors (slab body with no maple cap) sound great in their own right, but not really "better".
Fender guitars generally have 25 1/2" scale length. Gibsons have 24 3/4" That result is that if you want to tune your 6th string to an e, you need more tension on the string on a strat than on an LP. This also gives the string more twang. Add to that that LPs generally have humbuckers, with less treble, and Strats have Single coils, with more treble...
This is just the same as my 50th anniversary JTM-1H, wich has tone and volume nobs with loudness written and that marshall logo, but in black and gold. It also has the 1 watt/0.1 watt option. also made in england
idk, i'm very sure you can roll down the volume knob on this amp and your guitar and get some crunch. this is really the character of the old Marshalls. because they used cheap Chinese tubes with no headroom in them, they developed that midrangey saw-tooth distortion. if Fender were to produce a retro line like this, it'd probably be for you. they go from REALLY clean to slightly driven, although i was never pleased by their drive sound.
He's actually been away since the 29th of July. If you've been following him on Facebook you'll know he's gone through several life changes in the last few months. Aside from that, Rob gets in excess of 300 comments per day, as well as countless e-mails & Facebook messages.
Can you PLEASE do a review of the new Fender Standard Telecaster Satin series? I can't find one demo of these guitars anywhere! I bought my Orange Dark Terror and Orange PPC212 open back cab based on the demo you guys did. I am REALLY interested in the new Satin Tele's and can't find one anywhere in my area (San Diego, CA) to play first hand either.
I take just as much R&D plus labor to build a 1 watt amp as it does 100 watts. Handmade in the UK AND limited edition, and I think the price is more then fair. The only thing cheaper about a small amp is the price of components.
Whilst I hate to disagree with people on youtube ;-) I think by his own admission, Capt is no where near as technical as Chappers, HOWEVER to some/many that is preferable and until I perfect my passion-o-meter we will just have to pick our favorites., to me I just appreciate the 2 differing styles, which I feel, highlights the rage of tones available form the gear they demo, which makes a change form just hearing one dude, play the same licks through everything....IMHO.
A Gibson into a Marshall. To me, that is the gold standard, to which everything else is measured. An ML3 into a Victory Silverback? Perhaps an emerging standard? Interesting, Hmm...? That is one I would put up against any combination. What do you think Rob? Would the ML/Victory stand up to the challenge?
Were my eyes playing tricks on me, or did I really see a Capt.'s signature model Chapman guitar on the wall with a Humbucker in the neck position? If it is what I thought I would love to hear a demo of that. Kind of reminds me of the Fender 52 hotrod tele with a humbucker in the neck. I have never actually heard a strat set up like that but I would sure like to..Thanks Jim
2023 still loving this amp. Joe bonamassa epiphone Firebird one with a tc spark pedal. Simple and some much fun.
Capt's strat is sounding BEAST through this little amp. OH MY DAYS
Looks and sounds gorgeous!! Lovely to see you guys back in the new video room and the chillout lounge!! Looking forward to more baddassery in the future :) \m/
excellent excellent video. your technique and reviews have improved heaps. i should know ive been watching you guys for ages now. keep up the great work
Mr Anderton's tone is spot-on here, excellent stuff.
I got one of those Jackson 8 strings in the background in transparent red. Absolutely beautiful guitar and plays and sounds great, and unreal cheap priced! Highly reccomended
It has a very vocal midrange bite that is super nice for blues...
This is the best sounding amp I heard in a while. They should consider making 50w and 100w versions
God damn. The Captain is setting the place on fire with that Strat!
dude I love remedy haven't heard that riff in a while
I approve this new setup. Sound is much better.
You both look a lot more comfortable in this video ;) the new video room looks cool.
The strat sounds BEJIZZING through that SOB!!!!!!!!
That thick, full tone. Oh my.
most awesome looking marshall i've ever seen..i wonder why they made it look like it is now..should hav stuck with the old look!
Chappers! I love these videos. you and the captain are great. Keep rockin!
Always love to watch your videos! You must have the best job in the world :)
Greetings from Norway.
Thats what mics & PA systems are for! There are lots of players out there gigging with little amps mic'ed up!
Would have liked to hear the full range of tones it could get out of the strat. Every tone Chappers played on the Gibson sounded SUPERB!.
Sounds amazing with the Stratocaster! Which is unusual for a small amp, they normally sound a bit tinny.
both your comments are top, here have the internet award
The sound quality is much better IMO. Amp sounds really cool too.
I so want a Strat in that blue, one of my dream guitar type and combo.
sounds so fresh in that room!
Love the Tonewoods on that fridge
Yup - new room & new mic... Not only did we all agree that the Sennheiser MD421 sounded "meatier" than the SM57, the new acoustically treated room allows us to use a bit more of the room mic without it sounding too boomy. Anyways.... thanks for the feedback.
lee your playing has grown into something that i now prefer to chappers'
No problem :) I'm glad I could shed some light on things for you.
At least you know when Rob does respond to a comment it's genuine. He could very easily get somebody else to respond to all of them on his behalf, and then we wouldn't be having this discussion ;)
Is it just me or has The Captain's playing really improved recently? Sounds awesome!
I have an EC Vibro Champ that wasn't much different in cost, and I absolutely love it. I would really like to pick one of these guys up from a collectable aspect. Btw, I like the new setup!
New room looks great.
Virgil and the accelerators rock!
Good amp for studio work and home riffing, looks cool and i dare say will be highly collectable therefore good value in long run.
Sounds good in that strat
Awesome amp guys! Great vids as always!
Now this is how to critique an amp. Playing it in person and comparing it to amps with a similar tone.
And you win the Comments Monitor of the Year Award!
Interesting fact about this award is that this is only the 2nd time it's been awarded to a 40 year old virgin! Congrats!
Really liked the LP tones through this thing better than the Strat. Little bit muddy but I love that Crunchy Muddy British tone.
I see you have some toned leg muscles now Chappers, you have done really well!
New mic? The tone sounds so much better than previous andertons videos...
Blahs, the Blackstar HT5R absolutely blows this custom Marshall away, just from the demos U guys have done. I know my ears aren't deceiving me.
you know, i think you're right. i think that comes with chappers' unique playing sorta character though. most of his distortion comes through his pick attack too.
depends on the dude setting it up, and on the fret leveling job. a good luthier could get you below 1 mm on the 1st and about 1.5 mm on the 6th string at the 12th fret, without any buzz.

Great playing and sounds.
really cool tone for a 1 watt amp!
I think this tone is very achievable through an overdrive pedal. But I do love the looks of this amp.
Action can be changed, you could pull a less paul high enough for slide and have a strat so low that you can basically just tap out ever note instead of picking. I love how rob sits with a Les paul like its a flying V
that amp has surprisingly tight bass for a little 1 watter!
If every Marshall sounded like this one I would seriously go get one for my overdrive tone...
Strats generally have a slightly higher action the a les paul. Gives a more twangy sound
Sounds badass!
It's a song called Bleed The Light by Chappers himself.
the single coil sounds great... the humbucker seems to have too much power for the amp to handle. the low E string sounds like a rubber band!
It's utterly over me how in this world can a recording sound as bad as 4:25. It sounds like they are smashing the hell out of their A/Ds or something like that. Is not my intention to troll this video, but there are some serious technical issues here... :(

Sounds f**king awesome!
It's "Breath" by Rob Chappers, the man himself! There's a brilliant live version on his channel from last year or so :)
Saw Virgil and the Accelerators at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth - awesome!
Also, cool you're using an MD421. I personally think it works the best for vintage type guitar tones.
I have the normal JTM 1 head. Fecking great amp!
may I suggest putting something black in the backround? Looks "metalier" and it might make Rob look slim :)
Wow!!! Andertons has an EVH combo!
Fender guitars generally have 25 1/2" scale length.
Gibsons have 24 3/4"

just before that, lee was playing place your hands by reef
This is just the same as my 50th anniversary JTM-1H, wich has tone and volume nobs with loudness written and that marshall logo, but in black and gold. It also has the 1 watt/0.1 watt option.
also made in england
Loving the amp fridge ;)
can u do a vid on how to wire up new pickups please
idk, i'm very sure you can roll down the volume knob on this amp and your guitar and get some crunch. this is really the character of the old Marshalls. because they used cheap Chinese tubes with no headroom in them, they developed that midrangey saw-tooth distortion. if Fender were to produce a retro line like this, it'd probably be for you. they go from REALLY clean to slightly driven, although i was never pleased by their drive sound.
are those the new jackson js series 7 and 8 stringers behind chappers at 0:27 ?
damn they look nice.
Godamn that tone is sick 05:14 !!! whoooo
Rob are you gonna do any videos with those jacksons behind you in the near future?
Red 8 string in the background? getting a review of that soon?
You guys should do a review of that evh 5150 iii combo in the back
unfortunetly i don`t have the money, but wow that sounds amazing
You should make a review of the vintage VSR100. that would be awesome.
He's actually been away since the 29th of July. If you've been following him on Facebook you'll know he's gone through several life changes in the last few months. Aside from that, Rob gets in excess of 300 comments per day, as well as countless e-mails & Facebook messages.
Rob gets annoying how he just shreds constantly have a little variety for once please :3
Every guitar is adjustable so set it the way you want it.

Found one at a store in my city, and I think I'll save up for either that or the JMP-1 or JCM-1 head.
Whilst I hate to disagree with people on youtube ;-)

Could you guys make a review of new Dean guitars with six-in-line headstocks?
It's virgil McMahon I'm going to see then In November. Defiantly worth a look at
Is Captain playing in the 4th or 5th position on the strat? Sounds awesome through the amp...
awesome amp, thanks for sharing, cheers
I want the Marshall Fridge!
Sounds like every other modern Marshall in this video.
I can't really get my video resolution high enough to count the strings, but is that one of the new 9 string Ibanezes in the background?
It sounds exactly like my JTM1 combo in a vintage 4x12 25w greenbacks.
Jesus, sound quality is soo much better now.
A Marshall fridge and a love seat.
A Gibson into a Marshall. To me, that is the gold standard, to which everything else is measured. An ML3 into a Victory Silverback? Perhaps an emerging standard? Interesting, Hmm...? That would be the Master Eric Clapton's Layla. Staple of rock songs. :)
Hey Chappers, how were u able to upload so many new videos..like come up with new ideas..is it easy?
Tim M from the USA
