Love the videos man! keep em coming! Im deciding between wilson official or this tf model m ball. Im kinda leaning more towards spalding but mainly for nostalgia watching nba during the 2000's. What do you like better now that you also got to play quite a lot the wilson?
I like the Wilson a lot, but I feel like the Spalding will hold up better over time. Idk if it's the way they treat the leather prior to production, but I feel like this Spalding lasts longer.
Do you have any experience with the Spalding Neverflat Hex, or the Hex line in general? The ball seems like a good deal for $25 on Amazon. Do you prefer composite or rubber basketballs if you ever play outdoors? Appreciate all the reviews you do! Thanks
I prefer composite basketballs if I'm going to play outdoors. The rubber basketballs are too rough on the bands, and the bounce is usually a little unpredictable. I haven't used any of the Hex line basketballs yet, but the Neverflat Hex looks cool.
Love your videos man. The Wilson Evo get far too slippery if sweat gets on it. You have a better recommendation for a basketball that doesn't slip all over the place when wet?
So you might not like the suggestion, but any basketball that's genuine leather is great when wet lol. At least if your hands are a little wet, it sticks to your hands well. The Evolution does well with sweat, but I've never seen a ball handle moisture better than the Wilson Solution aka God-Tier Basketball
@@Love2Hoop My Wilson Evolution doesn't seem to handle moisture well. So I don't know, but I do sweat a lot. What do you think about the Baden Elite Pro or Nike Championship 8p? Also, thanks for the reply and suggestion. Really appreciate it.
The last time a bought a leather ball from Spalding website, it peeled along with the 4 other warranty replacement balls. One ball had the absolute worst quality leather, another ball was lopsided, and another ball was larger than 29.5, and another ball was flat on the seams. Just absolute terrible quality control. So the question is, is this new M version consistent in quality and reliability?
I've only seen two in person and both of those were fine. But, I know that for the early releases of the Wilson official there were a lot of strange defects, mainly the air valve not holding air well.
It is the same Horween leather, although I think the pebbling on the Model M feels slightly more "flat" compared to the NBA Spalding Official or the Wilson Official. It doesn't affect performance or how the ball handles, though.
I think it's great that you were able to borrow your buddy's Model M for this review. You were spot on with everything based on my experience with them. If mine held air, I'd still be using it, but I have moved to my Wilson Official full time. and have my Model M as a backup ball. I do notice that the Model M does have a bit of a softer feel, similar to the Spalding NBA ball, with a really fast break in time. (Even faster than the Wilson) For shooting, I seem to shoot equally with either one, but then again, my unorthodox form might come into play there. My Wilson is also just now starting to feel really good. (Over 3 weeks in on the breaking in process). Maybe in the future I'll give this ball another go and see if Spalding fixes the air holding issues with these balls (which I feel is solely due to them being shipped massively overinflated, and stretching the internal bladder), because for $50 less than the Wilson Official, it is a great option.
Funny enough, this is the second version of the basketball Michael had. He had to return his original because the first one didn't hold air. He would have to pump the ball mid game to keep it inflated.
The old top flights from the 80s and 90s that I grew up playing with. We’re just perfect good feel, the ball came off your hand smooth on jump shots and free throws, but then in early-mid 2000s they discontinued them and then they brought them back, but it wasn’t the same kind of leather, so I’m hoping this is closer to the old original leather than composite or anything else. Great video!
I just got the spalding tf midel M - also have the wilson nba official basketbalk - both are really nice - but i kinda like the spalding a little better - but you cant go wrong either way - for the price u cant beat the spalding - it was like $40 diffrence ffom the wilson nba official leather ball - i only use leather basketballs - i’ll probably get another spalding -
The biggest difference that people with the Wilson are dealing with right now after they're worn in are the seams. They're shredding which gives the basketball this nasty feel when you're holding the basketball by the seams.
I have owned and weighed all 3 balls, (Spalding Official, Wilson Official, and Spalding Model M) and they checked out at basically identical weights, with one ball having a .2 oz difference between them, which is pretty negligible as far as that having an effect on how the ball shoots or plays. All of these leather balls are noticeably lighter than an Evolution, for the better.
@@nicknett8 My Wilson ball just checked out at 575 grams. When I used pounds/ounces, my Model M and Wilson checked out at the same weight, too. (All balls had equal amount of air pressure when weighing them).
@@TheTigress thanks that’s crazy thought it would be much heavier than that! I have two NxT one was 596 and the other 603 grams. The my solution was 595
After every other time you use it. But I mean if it's really bad then every time after gameplay. The dust with sweat will help break the ball in, but too much will destroy it.
I've been trying for a minute. I wish Spalding had an email alert system like Wilson when a product restocks you get a message right away. That's the only way I was able to get any of the Wilson NBA basketballs otherwise I was taking L after L
appreciate the review!!! I will cop in a few months cuz i love the spalding official NBA ball. the wilson is cool but in my opinion the feel isn’t as soft and not a fan of the grooves
My problem with the Wilson is the rubber channels getting frayed aka rubber micro tears. The micro tearing happens on the daily when I’m using and it’s so annoying! I’m repairing the ball every other day it seems! It’s a shame that a $200 ball has such problems…and it’s not just my ball. I’ve became a pro at supergluing the channel micro tears and fine sanding the glue to smooth fill the micro tears n make the rubber channel area of the ball free of annoyances lol. I plan on getting a new Wilson NBA ball but the issues of the Wilson ball channels isn’t gonna be free of its problem just because I’m going to buy a new one. Perhaps the Model M is the one to get next 🤔.
Dope I gotta get this one! I currently have the TF legacy 1000 because I miss the old TF that I grew up playing with in school. The TF legacy 1000 isn't the same as old. But I really don't like hooping with the Wilson EVO and that's a gym favorite. (Idk why) Excited for this 🎉
I remember in the early 2000's how light the Tf 1000 basketball was compared to the Wilson Jet we were using back then. Felt like you could shoot that TF from half court without jumping lol
The Spalding TF 500 is an elite outdoor ball…only downside is that it may not last as long as you would like. Performance is superior though and it can be used as an indoor competitive practice ball as well!
I called spalding - I can only get the 28.5 - they have no info on when the 29.5 will be in stock for sale - should I just get the 28.5 I’m looking to but the TF MODRL M
I noticed that too, and what I noticed is that it gets better over time. Though I don't know if that it gets better or you just get used to it, but you start to love other aspects that make that one the only glaring point we don't like.
Once it gets more broken in, the bounce becomes great. I would say identical to the Spalding NBA Offcial. It take about two weeks to get to that point, but I have one that loses air daily, and just over 3 weeks of break in time that has a a very responsive bounce, while my newest one, 4 days into breaking it in, still isn't quite there bounce wise, but it is getting a little better each session. I think the Wilson NBA Official has a more sluggish and less snappy bounce compared to the Spaldings, even with over 3 months of use on it. The people who purposely under inflate their basketballs might prefer that, but I prefer the more responsive and snappier bounce.
Appreciate the quick replies guys. So here's where I'm at if you'd bear with me just a bit because on sale I dropped $250 for two of them and trying to decide if I should consider returning/replacing them. So when I got them they were both at about 15 psi and I deflated them to 8 psi. When I bounced them they felt flat, especially compared to my older Official Spalding game balls. Inflated the TF-M's to 9 psi and my older ball sits at 8 psi, held them at eye level (5'11" for reference), dropped them on hardwood court, and the older Spalding bounced at least 2 to 3 inches higher than the TF-Ms despite less inflation. I don't know if the initial overinflation has something to do with this issue although something tells me it has something to do with it losing air as the needle insert point on the ball unlike the older Spalding balls is not nice and flush with the ball and appears to be bulging slightly. I've even asked some guys who are miles better than myself from my gym without telling them my issue, and they all said the feel was good, but seemed sorta flat. I'm game to give it a couple weeks and see if it improves, but I just don't want to somehow do something to void the warranty if there is an issue with the ones I got.
@@rapz85 The general 7-9 psi is only a recommendation. Always go by feel and if they need more than 9 to bounce and feel right, then go with more air. I have a Molten that is on the other extreme and needs slightly less than 7 psi to play right
