Platelet-rich plasma, also known as platelet-rich growth factors or platelet concentrate, is a concentrate of platelet rich plasma protein derived from whole blood, centrifuged to remove red blood cells.
PRP has become a popular treatment for many conditions in sport medicine, regenerative medicine, aesthetic medicine and hair loss treatment as it contains a variety number of growth factors and cytokines that can accelerate wound healing and tissue restoration.
Research also suggests that PRP injections can help treat androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness).
PRP therapy process:
PRP therapy is a three-step process.
Most PRP therapy requires three treatments 4-6 weeks apart.
Maintenance treatments are required every 4-6 months.
Steps of PRP procedure:
A person’s blood is drawn, usually from the arm (approximately 10 to 60 mL).
Then, the whole blood is centrifuged in a centrifuge and divided into 3 layers, the bottom layer contains red blood cells (RBCs) with leukocytes the middle layer is the PRP, and the top layer is platelet-poor plasma (PPP)
The platelet-rich plasma is drawn up into a syringe and then injected into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth.
Mechanism of action of PRP/ How does PRP work?
Many studies have demonstrated that platelets not only affect hemostatic system, but also affect inflammatory system, angiogenesis, stem cell induction, and cell proliferation through the release of many different growth factors and cytokines.
Activated platelets in PRP release numerous growth factors and cytokines which play a major role in stimulating hair growth through cell proliferation, differentiation and angiogenesis
Use of Platelet Rich Plasma in Hair Disorders
Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA):
Also called male pattern baldness.
FDA has approved oral finasteride (for men only) and topical minoxidil for the treatment of AGA.
Compared to minoxidil, finasteride, and adult stem cell-based therapy, 84% of all studies reported a positive effect of PRP.
In AGA, action of dihydrotestosterone on dermal papilla cells suppressed WNT signaling, resulting in defective hair growth and retarding hair cycling. PRP promoting hair growth by activating WNT/β-Catenin signaling lead to proliferation and differentiation of hair follicle cells and triggering new hair cycle.
Female pattern hair loss:
Most common cause of hair loss in middle-aged women.
The cause of this problem is unknown, but it is related to genetics, hormones, and environmental conditions.
Alopecia Areata (AA):
Common autoimmune disorder that causes non-scarring alopecia in males and females at any age.
Cicatricial Alopecia:
Type of scarring alopecia, caused by different inflammatory conditions, physical trauma, burn, or severe infections that lead to the destruction of the hair follicles and subsequent scarring.
Hair Transplantation:
Several studies have shown a beneficial effect of using PRP in combination with hair transplantation.
Adverse Effects of Platelet Rich Plasma:
Because PRP therapy involves injecting your own blood into your scalp, you aren’t at risk for getting a communicable disease.
Minimal adverse effects may include, temporary and tolerable pain during treatment, mild headache, minimal itching, transient erythema and edema on treated area.
PRP is not recommended if you:
are on blood thinners
are a heavy smoker
have a history of alcohol or drug misuse
You might also be rejected for treatment if you’ve been diagnosed with:
acute or chronic infections
cancer
chronic liver disease
chronic skin disease
hemodynamic instability
hypofibrinogenemia
metabolic disorder
platelet dysfunction syndromes
systemic disorder
sepsis
low platelet count
thyroid disease

I improved my hair by following all these things: Including more and more vitaminC from orange, lemon, and kiwi fruit, 7-8 hrs of adequate sleep daily, consume nuts such as walnut, peanut, almonds in limited, you can also have fishes like sardines, salmon. Exercise at least 20 - 30 mins everyday. Using natural coconut plus onion based oil, neem wooden comb, scalp massager by liitleextra coconion two times a week. This is good to control hair fall.
Finally i am able to control the hair fall. Little extra cocoonion kit has started working and I am noticing a decrease in my hair fall.

So far so good. I like this because it’s light. At the most, it makes my hair a little crunchy like a gel or spray would but other than that it’s nice and light, good for everyday use. I haven’t been using it long enough to determine if it’s fully working yet, but so far I like it. because I saw some improvements after using "Amy Grow" natural hair oil for that short period.
Simply a perfect oil for hair re growth.

@Medinaz I have done a direct hair implantation procedure for the front/top and crown in April 2023. The results are already showing so I'm happy. I was also thinking of doing a PRP on 1st August. Do I really need it. My procedure was really painful and lost a lot of blood. I hate needles. Do I really need PRP because I've already also ordered the minoxidil + finasteride spray.
Yes you need PRP of 6-8 sessions for sure
How long?
Don't use minoxidil for long. Once you stop it will be back to hair loss. Also alcohol chemical is not better to apply on scalp for longer periods. Prp is good as this is natural and our own blood is used.

@aditibhatt2002 use minoxidil with cystiphane. you can't rely on prp alone. also use mesohair every 2-3 weeks. i m talking from experience. it worked for me and for my friend.

@@justanotherman_ I’m now 20 years old and have had 3 PRP sessions (each 4 weeks apart). I noticed hair loss at 18.5 years of age and since then I started regaine.
3 months ago I noticed that the effects of regaine were wearing off a bit so I decided to get PRP done alongside maintaining my regaine routine.
I believe that it’s definitely helped reduce shedding and I can see some improvements, it’s also slowed down my hairline from receding too drastically.
I’ve spent hours researching into hair loss treatments and the following is my advice to anyone in the same situation as I was:
1) Start regaine ASAP (the earlier you start, the more hair you’ll retain). It may be expensive and you may see an increase in hair loss/ headaches the first few weeks but after that period you start to see significant improvement!
2) Take PRP sessions. Most people who complain about it only take one session but it’s recommended that you take at least 3-4 (4 weeks apart) to see improvements. After this period, you should get it done once every 6-12 months.
3) Oil you hair! I use castor oil mixed with argon oil and rub it into and massage my hair for a good 10 mins. Leave it in for about 3 hours minimum and have a shower after but don’t use shampoo! Just rinse it with water so that the smell and stickiness goes away. It’ll leave your hair feeling much more stronger and thicker. Do this 2-3 times a week.
4) Take biotin! Some say that it increases hair growth but I didn’t see much effect. However, it’s very cheap so you might as well even if there’s a low chance. It will also increase nail growth too.
5) Don’t blow dry/apply heat to your hair. This will just weaken your hair follicles over time.
That’s all the advice I’ve got guys. Remember to stay consistent and most importantly - TRUST THE PROCESS! That’s the most important part, especially with the regain okay.

I did prp but it will not regrow new hair..I took 6 sessions..i had more hairfall after having prp..once ur bald also it's hard to reverse even through transplant..
No you are wrong. When you apply prp. It regrow the baby hair and opens the weak pores . So the hair you are seeing falling is the hair which is from the weak pores which sheds(falls) and new hair grow in that region of scalp So the falling of hair from weak pores will make u feel demoralized( you will think my hairfall is not stoping but actually it's weak hair and new hair is about to come). The result may come later but definitely come. It actually differs from person to person .

It's varies from person to person but sometimes it's not because of PRP but something missing in the blood also or no proper nutrition to hair is provided. For eg: some people get diagnosed with vit D-12 in blood . Etc. Or the water you use to drink and head wash also matter.
