i got a set of all the books when season 4 finished, which was when i first started watching the show, and i was so frantic with reading them to find out what happened i really dont have much recollection of what even happened in feast and dance o.o exactly like grrm says in the interview. must make time to sit down in a comfy place and go through them all much more slowly again

@@Got-Raider-Camus I read the books after watching the show. I just assumed his character was gay in the books, like 100% no arguments about it gay. Sex scenes that were gay. Not only are there no gay sex scenes in the books -- there's not even that many sex scenes at all. And if they are there it's to serve some narrative purpose like the only one I can even think of is from Book 1, Dany and Khal Drogo's sex scenes. I guess I mainly remember them because in the books she was like 12-14 years old and he was a 30-40 year old warlord. The HBO production is the reason so many people have this idea that Thrones books and show are so hyper-sexual and violent. That was mainly just the show's doing.

I want to see GRRM finish the books and then just write short stories from the world. I think if he does short stories he stays engaged and doesn't get bored or pressured to finish. Then we have these little pieces just building the world larger and larger.
I want to see him finish it too but I can’t see it happening soon. He recently said he was falling behind. I’m not sure what that means, he’s already behind but I think his drive to write it just evaporates as soon as it comes. He’s now sign a deal to create new shows for HBO so I doubt we’ll get to see him finish it. I can’t see how he’ll have time.
I’m 100% certain Skagos will be in TWOW, as part of Davos’ story arc. If Highgarden happens, it will probably be in Samwell’s chapters, although I think we’ are more likely to see Horn Hill instead, There is also a possibility Gulltown or Runestone might appear in Sansa/Alayne’s chapters.
@@freezingmoon TWOW's prologue will must likely be in the Riverlands, since GRRM confirmed that Jeyne Westerling is in it. He also said there is no plan to add any other POV characters. Highgarden, if appearing at all, would be in the middle of the book. The only POV character known to be anywhere near there is Samwell, who is currently in Oldtown and plans to take Gilly to Horn Hill for his mother to take care of. Other POV characters are either too far away, or going somewhere else.

And considering the next two books are massive, I'm sure George will find a way to do so. Also we've seen almost every single important castle in Westeros, it would be really weird if we didn't see the Rock. And yeah George said the basic ending is the same as in the show but also there are so many cool characters and storylines that didn't make it into the GoT that we still have to see.
Casterly Rock sounds like it'd be so awful to live at. I'm not even claustrophobic, but you're literally living in a mine, with the ocean creating echos all night. Tyrion said he had reworked the sewage system, so that the shit never flowed better, but can you imagine when that wasn't the case? At any rate, I'm still fascinated by the idea of it!
The chance of him finishing is likely high. Each book would take no more than 1,000 pages maximum, 500 minimum. (Based on his previous books) For 2 books that would be 600,000 words for 1,000 pages/book. And if you write a measly 300 words a day then it equals roughly 109,000 words a year. 109,000 x 6 years= 600,000 words ^which is more than enough for the 2 books to be What I'm trying to say is, even if he takes 7 years at a super super super slow snail pace then it should be finished by then.
He’s absolutely right about the 2nd reading and picking up so many hints. I’m pretty much reading super closely now and I’ll reread a page to make sure I grasp the information.

At this point I’m thinking GRRM is realizing he will need another book to finish this story. I’m betting a lot of what’s taking so long is the fact that he has to reorder and figure out how to do this in just 2 books. Or figuring out what he needs to change to finish the series in 3 books.
I know this is a 3yr old comment, lol, but... I think George saw how poorly people reacted to some of HIS ideas when the show ended (ie: Bran becoming King), that he panicked & decided to change it, which would be really difficult, if he already had some stuff written, but now has to re-write a bunch of it.

So pretty much D&D did stay true to GRRM's direction of the story. We saw both Highgarden & Casterly Rock in Season 7, Hold the Door scene, Jon's resurrection by Mel, Shireen Death, Battle of the Bastards, Destruction of Sept of Baelor & KL, Bran being king, etc. Most of those events are gonna be in WoW

The show really threw out subtly as far as Renly. If you consider Renly's peach speech, it's actually more likely that he's Bi. This plays into the larger question about Margery's use of moon tea (a contraceptive) and the renowned virility of Baratheon men.

Because of that, they decided to release very few games, to polish them as much as possible. That completely different. The readers seeing jaime and Cersei’s sex scene through brans POV advanced the plot forward and thickened it because now we’re wondering “is bran gonna survive his fall, what does this mean for the queen and her children, what does this mean for the starks and the lannisters” where as loras and Renlys relationship doesn’t reall do all that much for the plot so it would be kinda lame if someone just walked in on them and was like “oh these two guys are gay”. It wouldn’t have nearly the same impact as bran seeing Jaime and Cersei go at it

I don't know, man. I like that the story grows and becomes more complicated. I feel like a lot of the best parts of the book come from the new ideas that he tries out. Remember that he started the series because he didn't want any limits coming from the format or the lenght of the story. So by expanding it he's just living up to that idea.

Ehhh, the thing about the rainbow, may be a meta reference. But when you take this from the Wiki of Ice and Fire: The rainbow connects the organization to the Faith of the Seven, for which the rainbow is a religious symbol. That being a reference to that flag begins to sound less likely.
As much as we all want it finished. People seem to forget that each book took a long time before the entire series blew up to be the most famous in the world which inevitably made the man more busy. That’s not even discussing the input he had on the show which took even more time from an already time poor schedule because of the success. It’s going to be the biggest book of the entire series. Would he talk so much about other stories if the main story, the story of his career is not finished ? The world of Ice and Fire will not end with the Song of Ice and Fire. That's good to hear. But after we'll have finished reading A song of Ice and Fire, we must understand why this is the most important (key) story of this world. In it's history, Planetos had many defining moments. George must have focused on this story for a reason. Can't wait to find out!
Well, I think The Long Night(s) are the most pivotal moments in the story because they show whether or not humanity will be destroyed, which is kinda as big of stakes as you can have. And the series will definitely end with the second long night, and with a more permanent resolution than the first long night.

The hints that Renly is gay are not that subtle. He tells Stannis that Margaery came to his bed a maiden to which Stannis replied that in his bed she would remain a maiden. Loras, who is eager to be a kingsguard, gets sad and defensive when Sansa mentions Renly and is particularly hateful towards Brienne and later Stannis whom he believes at certain points, to have killed Renly. Jaime pretty much mentions to Loras that he believes Loras and Renly had sex. Margaery claims to be a virgin when she is married to Tommen and a lot of people don't seem to find that too surprising. This is just off the top of my head. I mean some of these are subtle but Stannis and Jaime are pretty explicit. It seems that in Westeros homosexuality is a bit of a taboo but also something that is thought about in a very different way than we do. It seems that Westerosi don't really have a word for homosexuality. They refer to men having sex with men or being interested in men and to 'buggering' but they usually qualify the act or interest, rarely the person. I guess that combined with the fact that Renly and Loras are not that close to any pov characters makes these things easier to miss as well, especially if you are still trying to keep up with who this character is again.
That's a very unfair accusation. The dude writes like crazy. About 12 chapters of Winds are out online if you want to read them and by 2015 he said 400 pages were done. He clearly is writing and the reason it's taking so long is because the book is huge (at least 1500 pages) and he wants it to be good.

@@Got-Raider-Camus I read the books after watching the show. I just assumed his character was gay in the books, like 100% no arguments about it gay. Sex scenes that were gay. Not only are there no gay sex scenes in the books -- there's not even that many sex scenes at all. And if they are there it's to serve some narrative purpose like the only one I can even think of is from Book 1, Dany and Khal Drogo's sex scenes. I guess I mainly remember them because in the books she was like 12-14 years old and he was a 30-40 year old warlord. The HBO production is the reason so many people have this idea that Thrones books and show are so hyper-sexual and violent. That was mainly just the show's doing.

And this is just POV characters having sex, to say nothing of sex acts witnessed by the characters. To say there aren't many sex scenes is just not true lol.

You act like that's a lot of sex scenes just anyway, you realize we're talking 5000 pages of manuscript and you pointed out what, 15 instances of sex across the five books? I want to see GRRM finish the books and then just write short stories from the world. I think if he does short stories he stays engaged and doesn't get bored or pressured to finish. Then we have these little pieces just building the world larger and larger.
I want to see him finish it too but I can’t see it happening soon. He recently said he was falling behind. I’m not sure what that means, he’s already behind but I think his drive to write it just evaporates as soon as it comes.
He’s now sign a deal to create new shows for HBO so I doubt we’ll get to see him finish it. I can’t see how he’ll have time.

TWOW's prologue will must likely be in the Riverlands, since GRRM confirmed that Jeyne Westerling is in it. He also said there is no plan to add any other POV characters.
Highgarden, if appearing at all, would be in the middle of the book. The only POV character known to be anywhere near there is Samwell, who is currently in Oldtown and plans to take Gilly to Horn Hill for his mother to take care of. Other POV characters are either too far away, or going somewhere else.

And yeah George said the basic ending is the same as in the show but also there are so many cool characters and storylines that didn't make it into the GoT that we still have to see.
Casterly Rock sounds like it'd be so awful to live at. I'm not even claustrophobic, but you're literally living in a mine, with the ocean creating echos all night. Tyrion said he had reworked the sewage system, so that the shit never flowed better, but can you imagine when that wasn't the case? At any rate, I'm still fascinated by the idea of it!

At this point I’m thinking GRRM is realizing he will need another book to finish this story. I’m betting a lot of what’s taking so long is the fact that he has to reorder and figure out how to do this in just 2 books. Or figuring out what he needs to change to finish the series in 3 books.
I know this is a 3yr old comment, lol, but... I think George saw how poorly people reacted to some of HIS ideas when the show ended (ie: Bran becoming King), that he panicked & decided to change it, which would be really difficult, if he already had some stuff written, but now has to re-write a bunch of it.

I'd like to know more about the minor houses in central and northern Westeros. Like we know House Slate rules from a place called Blackpool somewhere in the north. Where? And who rules from Ramsgate which is always on every map of the North. Yet we rarely get a marked location of house Bracken and Blackwood. I'd love to ask Martin about why he reveals some places and not others.
I really enjoyed his response for the last question about becoming a successful author in science fiction. I'm working on a fantasy novel right now, but I have had a few good ideas for sci-fi stories I never thought were worth a major investment, but maybe writing a few as a break from my novel and submitting them could do some good. The show really threw out subtly as far as Renly. If you consider Renly's peach speech, it's actually more likely that he's Bi. This plays into the larger question about Margery's use of moon tea (a contraceptive) and the renowned virility of Baratheon men.

The readers seeing jaime and Cersei’s sex scene through brans POV advanced the plot forward and thickened it because now we’re wondering “is bran gonna survive his fall, what does this mean for the queen and her children, what does this mean for the starks and the lannisters” where as loras and Renlys relationship doesn’t reall do all that much for the plot so it would be kinda lame if someone just walked in on them and was like “oh these two guys are gay”. It wouldn’t have nearly the same impact as bran seeing Jaime and Cersei go at it

Before I watched Game of Thrones, I had suspicions that Renly was gay. Rainbow Guard, Knight of Flowers is his bff. He doesn't see advances from a woman who is so obviously in love with him. Then Loras tells Renly Stanis has the personality of a lobster.

Well, I think The Long Night(s) are the most pivotal moments in the story because they show whether or not humanity will be destroyed, which is kinda as big of stakes as you can have. And the series will definitely end with the second long night, and with a more permanent resolution than the first long night.

The hints that Renly is gay are not that subtle. He tells Stannis that Margaery came to his bed a maiden to which Stannis replied that in his bed she would remain a maiden. Loras, who is eager to be a kingsguard, gets sad and defensive when Sansa mentions Renly and is particularly hateful towards Brienne and later Stannis whom he believes at certain points, to have killed Renly. Jaime pretty much mentions to Loras that he believes Loras and Renly had sex. Margaery claims to be a virgin when she is married to Tommen and a lot of people don't seem to find that too surprising. This is just off the top of my head. I mean some of these are subtle but Stannis and Jaime are pretty explicit. It seems that in Westeros homosexuality is a bit of a taboo but also something that is thought about in a very different way than we do. It seems that Westerosi don't really have a word for homosexuality. They refer to men having sex with men or being interested in men and to 'buggering' but they usually qualify the act or interest, rarely the person. I guess that combined with the fact that Renly and Loras are not that close to any pov characters makes these things easier to miss as well, especially if you are still trying to keep up with who this character is again.
Interesting that the term they use for it is a term for penetrating one's bunghole.

That's a very unfair accusation. The dude writes like crazy. About 12 chapters of Winds are out online if you want to read them and by 2015 he said 400 pages were done. He clearly is writing and the reason it's taking so long is because the book is huge (at least 1500 pages) and he wants it to be good.
