Yet another light tech here, I absolutely agree, love how you used the lights to create the right vibe, without copying the original show. Also my mouth fell open at 'to obey Paul' in the opening number
It's not often that I watch a high school production of a show that I know backwards and forwards, let alone comment on it; however, I would be very remiss if I didn't. I have to admit, this came up in my recs and I didn't plan to actually watch much, just skim through...but alas, here we are two hours later. I have to tell you all that I am insanely impressed by this production. It's not an easy thing to adapt a show let alone a Starkid production and have it work, but in this case, y'all picked the right one to do. The fact that this is student led is also very impressive on its own, but at the same time, is also very apparent that it is as the censoring doesn't sound like some old adult came through with ridiculous things and words that don't sound anything resembling natural as often happens. Anyone who didn't know the show wouldn't even really be aware that the words were all that different, kind of IYKYK. I could keep going, but I've written quite the novel already -- but I do want to at least say that it looks like you all had an absolute blast and I hope you take any online criticism (which I hope is very minimal to non-existent) with a VERY light grain of salt. With a student budget this was extremely well done and the work that went into it is very apparent, especially to those of us who have been in theatre for twenty plus years like myself. There's a lot of talent in this production and for those of you who wish to pursue it further, I think quite a few of you are going to have a really great future in it. Well done, guys. You have a lot to celebrate here.
I did the lighting for this production! thank you so much for the kind comment! I’m not sure of anyone else in our cast that is planning on doing theatre as a career other than myself but that is a huge compliment thank you! We have gotten so much love after posting this and it is so appreciated and very inspiring. 💜😭
(Hidgens/Director here!) This comment actually made me tear up a little, thank you so SO so much! We definitely worked hard on trying to censor everything but keep the spirit, and we worked with an extremely tiny budget and a dream HAHA. It’s been incredible getting all of this feedback, we come from a SUPER small town and the views are quintuple our town’s population. Thank you again!!
You were absolutely phenomenal!!! Incredible talent. Every line delivery was gold, and I lost my shit at the way you knocked Sam out with the flying leap. Iconic.
Big fan of the fact that everyone else is subject to censorship while Hidgens is mostly allowed to keep the swears. Definitely enhanced the character here!
I LOVEE the energy that everyone added for this show! Paul’s reactions during “what do you want Paul” were especially hilarious, and Mrs. Davidson ATE IT UPPP I LOVE the little head nods I thought it was hilarious that a smoke club member was greening out the entire time. (Far right, 20:30) The two background coffee characters and one won’t stop reading the other one’s paper, so the one leaves and the one that was reading the paper TAKES the paper? LMAOO (you can see them at 35:40) The cop song was brought to life with the extra cops. (Also, Ted pushing Emma down and bill helping her up?! 😂 45:11) And I LOVEE the rasp that the professor added to a “SHOW” stopping number, it made it so impactful! (1:38:30) Normally the creative choices made during high school productions kind of turn me away, but everything that everyone brought to the characters was so great. Good job all around! EDIT: an oh my goodness the lights!? Insane! Just the switch from Emma to the professor in the intro song was so COOL. (2:50?) idk there’s lots of cool moments all around 🤷
Light tech here! Thank you so much for the amazing nice comment! I’m so happy to see someone noticing the little small details! You even beat me to one of them that I had never seen before LOL!
@@jk_huffof course!! I’m a stage hand, so I always want to appreciate other people’s work! All of your lighting is WICKED! Like even with the meteor scene, that has to be difficult. And the scene at 40:00 or so is so aesthetically satisfying. Even the sound was super on point. Good job to all of the tech crew!
This was awesome, I loved it! To name a few standout things: - acting from Ted, Charlotte and especially Emma was so good! - lighting looked really awesome - “I want you to hold me, while I EAT NOODLES” - Flipping teenage Jeff Blim as Sam and MacNamara was great! He even had the hair! - the meteor just looked sick. - not sure if this was intentional, but the section of not your seed at 1:20:08 where Alice almost seems to partially break out of the alien control and sing about her dad was really emphasised with the coughing (as though she is choking on spores). Although that might’ve just been someone in the crowd coughing either way it really worked! - last but not least, female hidgens was something I didn’t realise I needed. We kind of got it in Workin boys but not to this extent!!! Show Stopping number was amazing! Overall, this was an awesome production and I loved it!!!
Probably the most impressive high school production I've ever seen. Especially considering it was entirely student-led and you all don't even have a high school theater program! I admire the dedication, the drive, and the creativity to pull it off so well! To do this with no adult leader and to come up with your own money through fundraising is just phenomenal.
dude, this cast RULES. you can really tell that so much love went into this and that the majority of the cast really loved the source material. and McNamara got SUCH a good reaction from the crowd, we love to see it!!! the curtain call with emma being forced to bow is SUCH a good choice too. you guys absolutely killed it!!! if i was in high school still i'd have killed to be in a production as cool as this!!
Ok, some of my favorite bits so far: I love Charlotte in this version so much, Sam and McNamara's actor is great (big shoes to fill!), the actor for bill sells me on his meekness and the tragedy. the Working Boys number was phenomenal and that dance works so well with a group, I also have to say the small scene immediately following is SO funny (Emma falling on her face, a quiet moment of prayer from Ted's actor (who is also killing that role), and the bit with the chairs gets me in every version). Hidgens adaptation is great too. I love the ensemble, everyone does a great job and is so invested. Emma sounds like Lauren haha and god its soul crushing every time to see emma go through that ending, forcing her to bow is an extra cherry on top lol. The helicopter wound is crazy good and that whole scene had me rolling. The meteor is a great prop. Paul's actor is such a great goof. Great job to the entire cast! i can see everyone had so much fun. Makes me wish I could be in a musical again.
Charlotte is my little sister Liberty, a newly minted high school graduate just this week and off to new adventures. Keep an eye out for the name in the future, somebody in this family has to be famous for a good reason and it seems like she's gonna draw the short straw.
I am genuinely at loss of words for how AMAZING this is!!! Highlights: - Jeff Blim (it's nice you pretend you didn't ACTUALLY get Jeff Blim but we can't be fooled come on) (for legal reasons this is a joke that guy is just amazing!) - Greenpeace Girl, Emma, Charlotte - Cup of roasted/poisoned coffee - I will say that imo sounds better than the original even ??! - the fact you got bigger groups for the aliens and probably had to practice DAYS for everyone to talk at the same time - Not Your Seed !!!!! - Prof. Hidgens
the way the music cut out during "i want you to want" had me DYING, idk if that was intentional or not but if it was a fluke huge props to that actress for powering through that was so good! and that cup of roasted/poison coffee scene was so tight!! yall are so impressive
Hidgen's killed it! I mean they were all amazing, I particularly enjoyed Emma, and Ted's delivery, but Henrietta Hidgen's was so hilarious that I legit forgot the character had ever been male at one point. It's especially funny after seeing the working boys short that StarKid just uploaded. I also really appreciate all the effort they had to go thru to clone and or de age Jeff Blim for this production. The actors looked like they where having a great time and the crowd was loving it. Great job.
This show was fantastic! - thanks for uploading it. The actress who played Emma killed it - poor Hot Chocolate Girl got her drink spit in. Greenpeace Girl was also great and her voice was beautiful. Also loved the actors playing Ted and Charlotte's work. Hidgens interpretation was delightfully daffy! Also McNamara's interesting take on his character. The choreography utilizing the extra cast members was a banger. You all slayed (literally)
Great looking production, guys! Emma, Ted and Hidgens stole the show for me - they made the characters without copying the OG actors. Glad I got to see this
I'm so impressed by everyone's performance! Especially the actor who played Ted because they really made it their own version of Ted and owned it and had me laughing out loud
I really appreciate that, there’s always a fear of inadequacy when diverging from the original character I’m playing. I’m happy I could make you laugh! (I played Ted in this production)
I LOVE Starkid and seeing a Highschool take on TGWDLM is obviously a must-watch. I love how you covered up the show and made it clean but still keeping the Humor in the delivery - Apart for Hidgens droppeding B-bombs ofc. I love The Girl that played Charlotte! She’s an amazing actress and plays her role so well! Everyone Else was also Amazing!! Well done ❤
I love that the opening song is in front of the closed curtain, brings a good sense of both “things coming full circle/being bookended” as well as the fact that the world’s already become a musical before we even learn what happened. It’s Pokey’s world, we’re just living in it…
I honestly like this version of Show Me Your Hands better than the original! All the actors playing the cops have so much energy and the larger group really brings the song to life.

I'm playing Paul in a production next weekend (July 12 and 13, 2024.) Just wanted to say how much I appreciate this version. It's a great production! The choreo is spot on. I think I like this Hidgins better than the original! I've been watching this and the OG production incessantly to help practice my lines. The Emma here is so sweet, love her energy. Also, my wife is Mr Davidson so gets to sing to me about what he wants. My step kid is the homeless guy, Alice gang and smoke club. My non verbal 13 year old is also an extra, in the Smoke Club and in Beanies. Much love from this Paul...you guys did amazing!
I don't understand how well you adapted the musical, and even improve some things! Adding some secondary actions and I totally prefer your version of "Not your seed"! Amazing job!
I was smiling so wide the entire time I watched this!! Getting to see this show with another cast was such a treat. The actress who played Emma was especially lively and hilarious!
This was sooo good! I absolutely love how much everyone added to their character, and all of the stories in the background! I’m not seeing enough people recognize the Bill, Greenpeace, and Sam! Those three both knocked it out of the park! Bill getting interrupted by the gun shot shocked ME and I’ve seen the show before. The Hidgens somehow transferring all of the baritone parts into a soprano/alto was also hella impressive. You all made me fall in love with the characters all over, amazing job!
I was so excited to hear that they’d licensed TGWDLM, and you all definitely made it work; hopefully this is only the beginning of people doing this show as a more widespread thing. I loved the custom graphics for the different locations and news reports in particular, and everyone did great!

I've had aspirations to direct this show for a long time. This is the first adaptation I've seen, and I'm so impressed with the originality! You guys absolutely killed it.
I've barely started it but I swear as someone who is a big big fan of the musical and used to listen to it on loop while I worked, this is so refreshing to see for me as it made me rediscover the musical with new actors and appreciate it even more. While obviously it's a high-school production you guys are doing a great job!! :D
charlottes actress is super cute + i loooved green peace girls vocals! all around great adaptation, as someone who's seen the original show dozens of times (and different cuts through early digital ticket etc), you lot really breathed some of your own energy into it. :-)
Gosh I love all the actors here :0. I gotta give applause to Ted and Hidgens too, and of course Jeff Blim’s secret clone. Glorious. This was 100% worth the watch when it appeared in my reccomendeds.
The kid doing the Jeff Blim characters is actually amazing! It's an adaptation/imitation, but its pristine + he adds his own small things that make it total peak. Sensational, my guy.
I thought I would watch a few minutes to get a feel for how different this felt (and I was curious about the "clean" version) and ended up watching the whole thing. Whoops! I have some observations: 1st- Your Henrietta reminds me of a mix between Jeff at his most unhinged (I'm thinking Sweet Tooth and Aladdin during his split scene) along with the witch in Brave somehow? Whatever that energy is, I'm here for it. I couldn't tear my attention away from the screen. 2nd- I loved Ted. He stole every scene he was in, except when Henrietta was on stage. He made some great choices with his line delivery to make the character his own. 3rd- I actually loved the cast size. I think double casting can be fun, but honestly it was great to have more of an ensamble for many of the bigger numbers. And I don't think that Joey and Lauren's smoke club is going to cut it after seeing all the members in this version. 4th- This is a nitpick, and I'm sure it's the way it's scripted, but some of the swear substitutions were just... off? Like a few "buttholes" would have been better as "jerk" or even "butthead". That being said, the cast sold it almost every time, and I probably only noticed because I know the origninal so well. 5th- I was not prepared for Mrs. Davidson wanting to be held while she ate noodles. Somehow so relatable and yet so weird. 6th- The only reason this is not first is because I'm commenting at the end, but the beginning announcements were incredible! They cracked me up so much! 7th- I wish there was an option to change the key on the backing tracks to help it be more in range for the singers' voices. Y'all did great with what you had to work with, but I would love to hear how much better it could be if it was more comfortably in your vocal range.
(Henrietta/Director here!) thank you so much! You managed to point out pretty much everything we tried super hard on, and the compliments are so nice!
Ted was by far my favorite character I’ve ever acted
You were absolutely phenomenal!!! Incredible talent. Every line delivery was gold, and I lost my shit at the way you knocked Sam out with the flying leap. Iconic.
yo dude major props!!!! u did amazing
You were great, that was an amazing take on Ted!
incredible performance!!
congrats! you were amazing
Davidson ATE IT UPPP I LOVE the little head nods
I thought it was hilarious that a smoke club member was greening out the entire time. (Far right, 20:30)
The two background coffee characters and one won’t stop reading the other one’s paper, so the one leaves and the one that was reading the paper TAKES the paper? LMAOO (you can see them at 35:40)
The cop song was brought to life with the extra cops. (Also, Ted pushing Emma down and bill helping her up?! 😂 45:11)
And I LOVEE the rasp that the professor added to a “SHOW” stopping number, it made it so impactful! (1:38:30)
Normally the creative choices made during high school productions kind of turn me away, but everything that everyone brought to the characters was so great.
As someone who is currently working to do tgdlm for my own highschool musical THIS WAS AMAZING, every actor was so great!!!
When you do, please upload a vid of it to YT; we'd love to see it
oh yeah! keep us updated!
@@seanmcmurphy4744seconding this!
The guy who played the cop did awesome! He sounded just like Jeff Blim.
Even looks like him.
The way the man in a hurry jumped over that chair in poisoned coffee was insane!
Yall remember this when the name “CoCo Striefler” (Prof. Hidgens actress) is in broadway playbills
Oh my god what?! Thank you so SO much!! 😭😭❤️
Didn’t know people did starkid musicals for high school musicals but this is really cool!! ❤❤
there are a few that you can! i believe trail to oregon, firebringer, twisted, and now tgwdlm are available to perform?

Still waiting for the day the rest of Hatchetfield can be done 👍
This was awesome, I loved it! To name a few standout things:
- acting from Ted, Charlotte and especially Emma was so good!
- lighting looked really awesome
- “I want you to hold me, while I EAT NOODLES”
- Flipping teenage Jeff Blim as Sam and MacNamara was great!
Davidson giving way to many curves on "someone to keep you lusted" was perfect
Oh my god this is really impressive. The actress for Emma's is so fucking great she KILLED it in her role
Keep an eye out for the name in the future, somebody in this family has to be famous for a good reason and it seems like she's gonna draw the short straw.
green peace girls voice is SO GOOD im obsessed with this production
aww, hi im her actor, thank you sooo much it mean a lot to get these comments
I am genuinely at loss of words for how AMAZING this is!!!
Highlights:
- Jeff Blim (it's nice you pretend you didn't ACTUALLY get Jeff Blim but we can't be fooled come on) (for legal reasons this is a joke that guy is just amazing!)
- Greenpeace Girl, Emma, Charlotte
- Cup of roasted/poisoned coffee - I will say that imo sounds better than the original even ??!
- the fact you got bigger groups for the aliens and probably had to practice DAYS for everyone to talk at the same time
- Not Your Seed !!!!!
- Prof. Hidgens
the way the music cut out during "i want you to want" had me DYING, idk if that was intentional or not but if it was a fluke huge props to that actress for powering through that was so good! and that cup of roasted/poison coffee scene was so tight!! yall are so impressive
The cutting of the music was fully intentional! :) -light tech for this production
Great job.
The actress really did justice to Lá Dee Dá Dá Day
Awww hiii i played green peace girl, this means so much! Thank youu❤️
@@gurblines2503 your vocal parts were some of the highlights!!!
@@deppygcreations784 thank youuu and thank you so much for watching we really appreciate it!!
@@gurblines2503oh my gosh your vocals were amazing!! you sounded REALLY close to the original greenpeace girl! seriously 🤍
Poor Petrice Spankoffski!
Third time rewatching it! Watched this more than the original lmao
The actor for Paul perfectly embodies his character! I love the scene when he begged for a black coffee lmao
I was skeptical about What Do You Want Paul because of the lyric change, but they pulled it off
It's hard to believe this is a highschool production 😭 all of you were so good!! 😭
Great looking production, guys! Emma, Ted and Hidgens stole the show for me - they made the characters without copying the OG actors. Glad I got to see this
shoutout to the lighting crew it’s so good
Hey thank you so much!!
mrs davidson ate
Especially without the music. That's so much more difficult
ate noodles i hope
La Dee Da Da Day was amazing!
This!
clicked on this just to see if they actually did it justice... good work!
Paul and Sam's actors really nailed the original mannerisms/inflections

BILL AND THE GIRL PLAYING THE BOSS AND CHARLOTTE FUCKINGGGGG KILLED IT OMGGGGG
The guy singing the opening number KILLED it!!! Amazing voice and great stage presence!
Omg Sam, Green Peace girl, Alice and all of the harmonies from the ensemble sound insaneeee. Also teds and sams actor are really good!!!
Thank you for the recording :)
Having already seen the og, the pre-show announcement was so great, and i love how i could tell who was who lol
PEAK ADAPTATION I WAS CLAPPING LIKE A CHILD THE WHOLE TIME I LOVE THIS
CHAT THE GREENPEACE GIRL'S VOCALS ARE ON POINT AAAAAA I LOVE HER
the censorship of "what do you want paul" was wonderfully done !!!! i worried it wouldn't fit and more so if there was no changes,, but came out very comedic !
man this was really good!! the actors for paul and professor hidgens got the mannerisms on point
This is so awesome !?!?!? They all did a fantastic job !! Can't wait for the rest of the Hatchetfield musicals to have available licensing!
A dream I've always had is for Starkid to license a version of _Me And My Dick_ suitable for high school sex-education classes
Yall slayed this hands down! The portrayal of Emma was iconic laughed at every line😭 and the songs and dances were amazing! Congrats guys!!!
The girl who plays professor Hidgens is amazing ! With her acting, energy and voice skills, she killed it ! Bravo 🎉
I'm shrieking at how good the coffee shop scenes were GODDDD THIS LIGHTING AND CHOREO IS KILLING IT
I was so excited to hear that they’d licensed TGWDLM, and you all definitely made it work; hopefully this is only the beginning of people doing this show as a more widespread thing. I loved the custom graphics for the different locations and news reports in particular, and everyone did great!
Not Your Seed had me shook sooooo good👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
you guys KILLED IT in “cup of poison coffee” omg
I recently was in this show as Zoey (not this filmed production) and this cast did amazing!!!! I haven’t been able to find any other videos of it besides starkid and its so close to the real thing which is awesomeeee
Shout out to the LIGHTING particularly love McNamara’s silhouette at the start of America is Great and also how it gets darker when Charlotte is first explaining how Sam was singing in the showe
Thank you! I really appreciate it :)
the final bow was soo good!!
This is amazing! I'm a HUGE starkid fan and ya'll adapted this PERFECTLY! The person who played same was incredible, matched the original actors energy perfectly
You know how adaptations of Peter Pan have that tradition that the actor who plays Hook also plays the kids' dad? I move we introduce a new one, if the director of the TGWDLM adaptation is physically capable of it, they play Hidgens. Thank you fo coming to my TED Talk.
I've had aspirations to direct this show for a long time. This is the first adaptation I've seen, and I'm so impressed with the originality! You guys absolutely killed it.
I'm watching this instead of eurovision
I love how all the staff brought Emma up to the stage again that was so great congrats!!!!
This was so great! The choreography was especially amazing and there were some incredibly talented singers in here!
WAIT IM NEARLY AT THE END AND JUST NOTICED THE SLIPPERY WHEN WET SIGN
Gosh I love all the actors here :0. I gotta give applause to Ted and Hidgens too, and of course Jeff Blim’s secret clone. Glorious. This was 100% worth the watch when it appeared in my reccomendeds.
The kid doing the Jeff Blim characters is actually amazing! It's an adaptation/imitation, but its pristine + he adds his own small things that make it total peak. Sensational, my guy.
I thought I would watch a few minutes to get a feel for how different this felt (and I was curious about the "clean" version) and ended up watching the whole thing. Whoops! I have some observations:
1st- Your Henrietta reminds me of a mix between Jeff at his most unhinged (I'm thinking Sweet Tooth and Aladdin during his split scene) along with the witch in Brave somehow?
I LOVE Jeff’s performance in that scene, and the witch from brave so that’s pretty much the best compliment I’ve ever received. Thank you for watching!
