Dr1 suck. I hated almost all the females (expect for like 5.The survivors, Muroko and Sakura. Even then Toko and Kirgiri is kinda meh too me) and the males we’re better but not by that much. Dr2 was a great game but Drv3 is the first game that actually made me cry. I cared about these characters so much, even my least favorites like Tsugumi, Tenko and Kiyo.

People don't understand that they are MEANT to dislike the ending. Kodaka (creator of danganronpa) was clearly sick of the "hope vs despair" formula and that's why he did it. It was to say if that same formula carried on there could be as much as 53 Danganronpa and the ending would be the same, hope would win no matter what. V3 was clearly different, V3 was based on truth and lies and the whole "hope vs despair" shtick was clearly forced in at the end to make no sense with the current story line. "The outer audience" in the game are clearly upset at the ending because Kodaka predicted them to be, however, in the game, at the end they understood, Kodaka made the V3 characters bond to the audience more, he gave the V3 characters more life than previous installments so that we would be even more upset. Because as Shuichi said, it's real to them, and they wanted to convey that to the audience. This ending was extremely risky to do obviously and only fans that really look into it will understand. That's why, even though I'll be sad since V3 was really interesting, I wouldn't mind if this was the last Danganronpa. Unless they did something new with it, another installment wouldn't make sense and would demean what Kodaka wanted to do with the V3 ending in the first place.
Honestly my reaction was just despair...so the story of hopes peak which we have been following for so long isn't even canon in its own universe....what a grand ending that made the great established story fall apart...that's been happening a lot recently
Well then..... it looks like the whether the V3 ending is good or not argument is going to continue for quiet a while.... *grabs popcorn and continues to watch*
Came back here just to say, I'm still really really salty over the ending. I really just wanted answers and a concrete ending. Things like, "hey what happened to the guys that "died" while at the rehab program, did any of them ever manage to wake up?"(I imagine that at least Komaeda would wake up from the coma since he's SHSL luck) "how did the world recover?" "what happened to towa/future foundation?" or even maybe "what happened to Monaca and Izuru?" I never really cared too much about the deaths or whole hope/despair thing themselves, danganronpa was enjoyable for its' charismatic characters. They all grew so fast on me. Nearly every death actually made me really sad. Also after going through Ultra despair girls, seeing all those random corpses, and reading every scrap note with so much added background...I don't want to dismiss it all as "lol fake!!" It was my favorite game series, read nearly every novel too. The story was interesting. V3's ending felt like shitting on the entire game's universe and reducing it to "lal there's only more titles cuz u all want death and despair and hope and im tired of this bullshite its getting old" I still need to watch the anime, but after this I don't know if it's going to be enjoyable anymore. Sidenote congratulations Tsumugi for getting "cospox" when cosplaying a real person (Kaede) then proceeding to call her fictional
Xord I go in 100% blind on every DR game, so I didn't know. I'm just saying there was stuff I wanted to know about- maybe more random backstory pieces that fit the bigger picture, instead of the SO3-like-4th wall break.
Vitor Borges Oh, I *got* the message. The whole theme of lies, making a new truth, it being real for the characters, etc. It was just kind of ...extremely unsatisfying. Maybe if it was executed differently? It still feels like pure salt to me.
As a writer, I find the ending lazy, and despite it trying to be different from the past two endings, it did the same thing that annoyed me the other two times, which is drag on and shove the theme down your throat. The "meta"-ness wasn't cleverly done, and I read a lot of comics so I'm usually a big fan of breaking the 4th wall. The best example of 4th wall destruction I can find is Gwenpool- also a real person turned fictional and threatened with being cancelled, but that fact was never overly saturated and never felt unnatural for the world it was in. It disappointed me a great deal because the game itself was thoroughly enjoyable, and my favourite character from the entire series, Kokichi, is a far more well written and subtle way of getting the truth/lies message across. They honestly could have just made him live longer and it would be done better, because whoever wrote his lines was doing an amazing job. Maybe that same person was only good at writing Kokichi specifically, I don't know, but his dialogue was both witty and fun and it's just such a shame the best written character couldn't survive and save that train wreck of an ending. It also annoys me how fans of the ending use the parallels in it to try and say those of us who hated it aren't real fans, or are just like the killing game fanatics in V3, that we didn't analyse it properly. That's exactly why I hated it, I constantly analyse everything I read!
"I don't wanna see another one of these." This clip is great. That being said... Those people be fucking lying if they claimed they don't wanna see another killing game but it's good they came to the conclusion that it's wrong to do it just because they want it.
The only thing I don't like about the ending, is that it just makes the other two games non existent. I'm ok with changing the theme of the story, cause it doesn't have to be hope and despair the whole time, but why did they have to make the other previous games non existent? Why couldn't they be a part of the same universe of this game? Just this game takes place after the Hope arc of the anime, maybe a little further beyond that. I don't think it would've changed too much, just no reality show.
Kodaka has officially come out saying that this isn't the case. Plus, even if he didn't, no creator is just going to randomly insult their fans for no reason. The ending had nothing to do with real world Danganronpa fans; the game was just using itself as a metaphor. Unless you happen to know people who are so into Danganronpa that they genuinely think we should host murder games in real life, in which case yes, the ending is calling them out specifically I guess. Either way, that's not what's going on.
Hey, I hit you in the face, but I totally didn't mean it! By the way, all that emotional investment you had in the previous games and everything... let's take a huge shit all over it. The author can say whatever he wants, this is clearly directed at the real audience as well. They should have just gone with a proper despair ending for once, if they wanted to finish the series for good. Instead we get the Ultimate Disappointment, you're welcome, fans.
Honestly if kodaka was tired of the hope and despair shtick then he could’ve made the next game or entry in the series about people’s fates or destiny like where monokuma is talking about despair he talks about destiny and more deep junk like that essentially saying yeah only five or so of you are going to live and it’s settled no matter what your dying and the others would be like no way our fate isn’t sealed in stone and whatever honestly the ending was made the way it was so kodaka would have a reason to not work on danganronpa related things anymore purely cause he was tired of the games themselves and it isn’t the first time he got rid of something cause he didn’t like or want to deal with it cause the reason Leon and sayaka were the first two characters killed (disregarding mukuro) was because he was tired of them and their designs! He admits it for goodness sake in a interview! Honestly kodaka in my opinion made v3’s ending the way it is so he could have a reason to not make anymore danganronpa related anything it makes sense sadly by saying everything in the past games was a lie and they didn’t matter essentially it means that when spike chunsoft or when fans ask him hey can you make a game or anime about what to the sdr2 characters or whatever happened to the original dr1 survivors he could say doesn’t matter what happens they are fake and they were dead since the beginning pretty much cause they are fake. And even worse he had showed his laziness in the first game with the bad ending by just showing a picture of the survivors(minus kirigiri)and a dead toko for no reason literally he didn’t know what to do with toko(cause heaven forbid her and byakuya ever settle down and become happy together)and just explained it in a interview as oh she blew up,no reason why or how she was blown up she was just blown up for laughs... I love these games and these characters but after what kodaka done with the ending just makes me sad I guess. I mean how would you feel to have a best friend or loved one who you care about to only be fake I mean you feel hurt knowing you cared about someone who was never real never really making a difference. Honestly I feel more sorry for the characters of these games like naegi kirigiri aoi hajime teru teru fuyuhiko ibuki mahiru peko... all these characters all these almost seemingly real stories I mean cause then what was the point of the first two games at all cause then naegi and hajime might as well let junko go on plunge the world into despair and basically v3 would be the same all these carefully created characters there stories only to be wrote as all fake. I know its only a possibility that the first two games were fake since tsumugi could have been lying about the whole thing but that’s the thing about the ending it isn’t definite its up in the air its a sorta lazy cop out ending to what was a perfect story in my opinion all ruined cause it’s creator got tired of it and the whole games and didn’t want to mess with it anymore cause he was bored of it just like sayaka and Leon really, something that could’ve been amazing and had all the potential to succeed but was wasted.
