Throughout our Go Explore Greece adventure, we've been surrounded by an array of flora and fauna. This walking tour Athens experience really showcases the natural beauty tucked away in Athens Greece. As we step into the Garden, we're greeted by the famous covered walkway. With its whispering leaves and dappled sunlight, this charming path feels like stepping into a fairytale. The walkway leads us to an unexpected sight - a row of majestic Washingtonias Palm trees. Fun fact: these towering beauties are named after US President George Washington. I guess even trees can have a brush with fame.
Our path winds towards a significant sculpture, that of Spyros Samaras (1862 - 1917), the creative mind behind the Olympic Anthem. His figure seems to watch over the Garden, a reminder of Greece's enduring contribution to the world of sports and culture.
Next, we cross a quaint bridge over the central pond. Here, we pause to watch the lively antics of the birds, including some rather chatty geese. The pond, a focal point of the Garden, is a hub of activity for our feathered friends.
As we continue, we encounter another illustrious figure, the sculpture of Dionysus Solomos (1798 - 1857). Known as Greece's National Poet, his presence here feels like a nod to the country's rich literary heritage.
Further along, we stumble upon a serene stream, a remnant of the ancient Peisistrateio Aqueduct from the 6th century AD. Imagine, water flowing through here for over two millennia.
And, of course, no tour of the Garden would be complete without admiring the fish, including the charming goldfish, in a pond. It's a lovely spot for a bit of reflection - both literal and metaphorical.
