    You should always be on the watch for people who are too positive about anything.

      Why? I love certain things regardless of their faults. I think it's INCREDIBLY sad for someone to not love anything with all their heart. TES is one of those things for me, and I'd be a miserable person, like yourself, if I couldn't find utter joy in anything and just had to criticise everything and wasn't allowed to be positive.

      @@Zhakaron But there's a difference between being critical and being positive. For example, my love for the band Muse is unconditional. I love everything they put out, and can only ever rave about them. Am I ignorant of their flaws? No. Do their flaws influence how positively I feel for them? Not at all. If someone can't find any criticisism for something they love, I find that irritating, but someone being *too* positive about something they love just doesn't exist imo. It's beautiful when someone finds overwhelming positivity in something regardless of its flaws.

      @Loveblanket
      I'm a MIX of Optimist and Cynic while depending on the time of day or event I can become an Pessimist....Well Loveblanket you're FULL OF SHIT!
      Optimism DOESN'T equal Intellect or Survival either!
      (The ONLY way to be Smart or Intelligent IS to Survive long enough to be in the first place! Those who believe Foolishly EVERYTHING is always just fine usually DIE first, Proving they weren't Intelligent enough to Survive in a World that YES can be quite Dangerous and especially Cruel from those who live in it! The term "Survival of the Fittest" doesn't just exist for no reason.)
      An NOPE it ain't Cynicism tearing the U.S.A. up it's Partisanship/Left Vs Right going to it's Logical and even WORSE Illogical Extremes trying to Box PEOPLE into categories that can ONLY Box them into "Good", "Evil", "Monstrous/Inhuman/Animal" or "Patriot" or "Racist" NOTHING even describing what it even MEANS to be Human or an Individual/Individualist!
      Also MOST Politicians and even Businessmen ARE Pessimistic then Cynical then BULLSHIT they call "Optimistic" that they simply will use against you to deceive and con you to get them reelected or give them more power.
      To BE an Optimist DOESN'T in anyway shape or form equate to being an Absolute Naive Fool!
      Also BLAMING others for something they can't really Control(WITHOUT Major Life Changes) like their Internal Emotional and Logical State ISN'T something an Optimist does, An Optimist will realize GREAT other People think different to me BUT that's A-Okay because (Insert whatever Personal-Justification they'll use Here) and that's just gonna Definitely work out in the end no matter what happens!
      Also MOST Inquisitive Personalities and especially Detectives ARE at their Core well Cynics/Skeptics on EVERYTHING in their Life!
      So this statement here "cynicism isn't intelligence, it's the admission that navigating life's bullshit is too hard for you so you've given up trying to analyze it" IS absolutely fucking hilarious!
      You NEED to become a Stand-up Comedian I know you'll do great work as one at least I BELIEVE in you because I'm an Optimist(Sometimes)!

    Great topic. I too have this fear. It seems inevitable that any publisher, public or private, will use any means necessary to generate hype or douse critics. It's a scary world that I wouldn't have known about had I not become a RUclips creator, but you see it all the time, people cranking their praise to 200%, for as small a price as an pre-release beta key, which turns into advertising bucks. With the potential of real money getting traded for exposure directly, who are consumers going to turn to for unadulterated opinions/information? Major news outlets bent the knee years ago for advertising money.

    Disney does the exact same thing. It doesn't have to give cash to anybody, it just invites you and your family for a whole week at disneyland, while you attend to the press event/private viewing. Go tell little Timmy that he won't be invited to Disneyland this year because you had to trash the review of their movie. Children's happiness is a more effective influencer than money.

      some Dude
      I don't think you actually understand what I said.
      There is a difference between making something genuinely appealing & manipulating psychological responses.
      For example, Psychiatrists (who have considerably more understanding of mental associations/processes than psychologists, hence why they are considered Doctors where psychologists aren't) who apply their training/knowledge to take advantage of patients (rather than helping them) would DEFINITELY be considered unethical & almost certainly lose their licenses if found to be doing so.
      I gather you mean "making something appealing" by the brain's association of specific colours with food/hunger (subliminal messages, which is what those ARE, doesn't really fit in that definition)...whereas the uncomfortable-by-design seating/environment doesn't fit at all.
      That is purely researched, developed & designed to get you to pay, eat & leave ASAP. I think you'd have a tough time saying "pay, swallow & GTFO" as appealing in any way/shape/form (unless you are an owner looking to maximise profits, in which case it definitely is)~

      Zaric,
      If anything, I would be one of the very few 'true neutrals'. I watch every action that I can of the companies, if a company has ethical business practices I base my decisions on that. Just about every review, gameplay vid, or otherwise, is just pure entertainment to me.
      As a saying I, myself have thought up a while back says;
      "Human brain's these days are infested by the 'human hivemind'. They are ready and willing to victimize any one and every one at the drop of an inclination that it might get them more 'friends', 'likes', 'followers' or in some cases just pure attention.
      ~ Wandering Mania (Me)"
      BGS has taken to deceiving people with misleading information, and that in my opinion, in the context of selling more copies of their game, is equivalent to 'theft'. Let alone the CC and it's 'intellectual property theft'. Along with the unethical 'improper showcasing of a product', as we have seen more gameplay footage of Cyberpunk 2077 than we have of 76. And CP2077 doesn't have a release date yet. All this adds up to BGS/Bethesda/ZeniMax Media being criminals.
      And I don't support criminals!

    In case anyone is confused by the point, in simple terms: companies offer 'free' items to people with social connections as a subtle form of pressure manipulation to put out positive enthusiasm for a product because that translates into an increase in early adoption.
    The connected person doesn't want to be ungrateful to the company 'host', and somewhere in the back of their head is the thought that they'll be cut off from the 'free' stuff if they speak in a negative manner. The generally unsuspecting public hears a lot of positive buzz from all the connected people and a purchase might be made without due contemplation. The company is essentially 'buying' positive press.

      It's a good game, but not a good fallout game. NV is a love letter to FO1&2 with many nods to Van Buren the cancelled fallout 3. It's not bad, but it's like diet crack though if you fell in love with the fallout games before Bethesda bought the IP. I mean I appreciate Bethesda doing that, and giving us FO3 and by extension NV. Though with the drastic changes in tone, and gameplay it feels like they prolonged it's life just to kill it again/make it unrecognizable. I've pretty much come to terms now that they will continue down the path they've gone since FO4. I hope I'm wrong, but given their record of dumbing down/streamlining their games for mass appeal doesn't look like I will be.

      @leathery420 6 лет назад

      I'd say more cynical than pessimistic. I know the pressures. Though I don't generally think companies should give into them in the pursuit of mass appeal. If indie devs, and AA devs can make games every bit as good there is no excuse. I didn't form my opinions over night. It's come from years of watching the gaming industry try to turn initially niche games into massively popular games losing much of their charm. It's not just with RPGs either. I played OFP, ARMA 1, 2 and was an early adopter of ArmA 3. Played both the DayZ and Battle Royal before they ever became popular. Now the Battle Royal and to a lesser extent survival gametypes has become so popular it's almost ridiculous.
      Hell you can argue Bethesda did the exact same thing copying popular mods and flavors of the month instead of focusing on core CRPG elements fallout was built on. It's no different than COD throwing away SP in favor of BR. Unless Bethesda has plans to release pure single player core RPG then we've just thrown away a great franchise for some Destiny, division bullshit.

    When Bethesda decided not to hand out pre release copies(I thought it was for Doom where absolutely none were given?) I openly said that that was good. Pre-release copies make those who get them think they have to give a good review or lose that privilege. Oh dear, the shitstorm that I got for saying that, because there are lots of people who believe that I was wrong and they need to be "informed if its a bad game" before they buy it, because you must buy at release instead of waiting a day or two.
    Not that that even matters as most preorder their game before the pre-release copies are handed out. And then they all go watch Jim Sterling, you know, the guy that is on the publisher shitlist and buys his own games at release.
    People are stupid.

    Fantastic video and something I've ranted about before. As someone that has also worked in sales and has a college level business degree, I pick up the signals that this video is talking about as well. You can see the strategy they're trying to pull straight from the Harvard Business School website sometimes. They WANT so badly to be able to sell community created mods and create a gaming service to pull that annuity like revenue, its really scary how much they're pushing it. They hide behind the like ten mod creators that actually benefit from this to justify their greedy strategy, it makes me sick.

    Interesting. There is a lot of murky goings on behind all these marketing events, these days. Fortunately, most of the RUclips reviewers I tend to watch, are reasonably balanced in their reviews of games. That said, I did watch a review of the Witchery 3 launch in Poland with a particular reviewer, and it was clear such an atmosphere was conducive to a good review, but even the reviewer was aware the event was naturally to 'assist' positive reviews, so at least he was not oblivious to the tactic.
    Which brings me to a second point, namely unfortunately you can hardly blame Bethesda for following such marketing strategies. They are highly effective, and nice guys don't just finish last. ......they're often not even in the race to begin with.

    Corporate greed has leaped into the gaming industry. All that matters is profit. If developers/publishers don't see a short term profit they falter. That is what they care about. However this mindset would bite them in the ass. They realize this. So thus money milking solutions make up for the potential loss of profits. Ergo why microtransactions, loot boxes and lackluster paid dlc exist. The whole circle of most AAA games goes like this. These people are not your friend they want your money that's it. This also explains why open world games are everywhere now. Them and battle royale multiplayer games. This isn't to say there are only bad games now. Only that it's not the priority of most of the gaming industry. Buyer beware.

    Interesting. Thanks for sharing. -- Fallout 76 - Pros and Cons - Good points on many issues in BETA plays. There is a need for them (Bethesda) to improve many aspects, especially for focusing on more believable lore, immersion, and on tech glitches. Like, the dropping of junk in a brown bag is not believable, and greatly distracts from the immersion. If anything the junk should be in the dead corpse (left longer in game), or in back pack, or side bag, or pile of junk . Also, when a player gets killed they should lose more than just junk, such as losing one or two weapons and about half their ammo, and some healing items, and maybe this greater loss can be done at higher levels, and at low levels only lose junk. And the bodies should be left to be either chopped into strange meat, or scalps, or to feed nearby creatures like wild dogs. Like, creatures could carry away a arm or leg; and another player may wish to collect a scalp. And carrying power armor without wearing it also does not make sense, and breaks immersion. Stash size should not be very big unless at one's CAMP / Fort, since if it is very big, it breaks immersion. Improve Cooperation Ability: There needs to be more focus on ways for the player to communicate by either written messages in notes or by flags, and allow them to make factions of their own. There should be a way to also somehow tame or pacify certain creatures, or possibly herd them, like the dogs, the rats, and so and they in turn could be unleashed on other players. There should be a way to also make the scorched to turn passive, or sort of being healed slightly, or put into a trance like state, and that may even apply to the green hulks. Overall the AI should be be improved for many of the creatures, and the environment such as weather, temperature, lighting and sound ambiance. Since they are not using any NPC, then they need to still focus on lore and make more options for the players to help the lore, and to be encouraged to have victory parties, play music instruments, make things, help create original compatible lore, and allow them to possible make tasks for other players for experience points; and to also allow the players to possibly make unique items which does not break lore, nor screw up the mechanics of the game / sim. It is important to NOT give a "free pass" for the developers, and keep them focused on high quality aspects of this game /sim especially to the lore, to plausible compromises, and to high quality immersion. Believable Immersion, lore, and interactive story elements are keys to Fallout Quality. Please Support high level quality in Games / Sims.

    Thank you for making this video. I've been saying pretty much this very thing for years. But since I don't have the means to make a RUclips channel, it's hard to get people to listen. Events like what Bethesda just did are a bad idea to me for consumers. These various media people are essentiallly bribed to up talk the product their shown. And if they don't up talk the product, then they won't be envited back to future events. And that could vegatively effect their media business. So in some sense, These media people are being entrapped into giving good press for these big companies products.
    Now watch. I predict that if this becomes a big enough complaint about game marketting, some RUclipsrs will badly talk about the game just to "prove us wrong." So they can say, "see. Events like this don't effect what these media sources say." Again. Thanks for making this video and please make more like tis.jOh. And one more thing. The Behind Closed Doors Events are also a problem for simular reasons.

    Hey Zaric, I seriously doubt you'll notice this, but it's still worth a try.
    So yesterday, loads of FO76 footage came out from the content creators who were invited to Bethesda's jamboree. Now, I watched through all their videos and listened to them and I might be crazy, but I swear, I started to hear the same friggin things. As if they were given a script at the event of what they have to say. I started to feel like they REALLY want to convince me that it's still a fallout game and the lack of NPCs is not a big deal and whatnot. Now, what I think about the game is besides the point, but all their "opinions" sounded eerily similar. What's your take on that? Did you watch those videos?

    • @asiamatron
      @asiamatron 6 лет назад

      Some of the videos I watched did actually point out some of the issues with a game like this. For example in those videos people said the game world felt a bit lifeless without human NPCs. They also felt the game was missing some of the stuff that got them into Fallout in the first place. I think it was Juicehead who said he only found one side quest while exploring which was disappointing.
      The difference is those RUclipsrs won't completely trash the game. They'll try to remain optimistic and they're more willing to give Bethesda the benefit of the doubt. That's probably why they got invited: Beth knows they won't completely trash the game and they have a lot of viewers who like Fallout. It was a safe bet for Bethesda.

      @@loveblanket6512 agree, Matty is just a young guy who loves games and I think he's clearly trying his best to improve as a reviewer, ever since the "fallout 4 is a near perfect game fiasco. The point Varic was making though is that Matty IS a perfect target in Bethesdas eyes to give special treatment to because he will become a part of their advertising team, helping to build hype for their games, simply because of his excitement for their games. Even if he tries his best to be objective, as soon as you accept free stuff you are biased.
      Actually, if anyone's familiar with ACG, he is someone who has integrity, as he buys all the games he reviews, and Matty is friends with him. No doubt ACG is a good influence.

Fallout 76 is a moneygrabbing service, but they had the choice to screw some fallout 4 and nv mod projects for money but they didnt, They seem to be seeking a sort af balance, they will make a milking game for each succesfull IP and use it to keep making profits while their proper game developers make new games as they think itll be good since they alredy have custumers paying them for nothing.
