If there is anyone in the modding community who needed to stop being treated with any kind of credibility whatsoever a long fucking time ago, it's Arthmoor. I'm not kidding when I say that he has never admitted to being wrong about anything, ever. That alone is enough to earn him a seat on the short bus, if not kicked out of the fucking community altogether. But does anyone have the balls to do it? Nope. Motherfuckers are afraid that the patches will vanish (they wouldn't), so they let him strut around with an undeserved air of authority, setting a bad example for others. Makes me sick.
>no more free mods >re-releasing the game multiple times >micro transactions Well i guess i'll go play chess or checkers or some shit because at least a board game won't try to sap away all my money.
I wouldn't mind some Chess lootboxes, stickers and hats, as long as it's mostly cosmetic. Those AAA Chess developers need to feed their families after they spent their $150 million savings on marketing you know. The studio mascot dog is also in need of some expensive surgery.
"Latest version is the only legitimate version!" So by his logic the 1982 version of "Blade Runner" is no longer legitimate? So what about my copy of one of the 1974 printed editions of ENCYCLOPÆDIA BRITANNICA is that no longer legitimate? I have two versions of the Alexander movie, the "original" and the extended "director's cut"? Which is legitimate and is the Richard Burton movie of the same name no longer legitimate? Am I doing something illegal here? That has to be the single most stupiest comment I've ever heard in my whole life!
Wait you talked to someone who said they were responsible for the creation club!? Are you sharing his home adress? I ...want..to bake him some cookies yea thats it, can i have his adress *Starts polishing pitchfork*
OMG, I can't believe people are such cheapskates... where's the problem to pay $99.99 for the Ultra Edition + $39.99 Season Pass + withhold content, aka day one DLCs + Microtrashactions to negate brutally dragged out gameplay mechanics?? Don't forget to PreOrder or content is locked for gud
Hmm, yeah that is really broken. I know mods that add like the players body in first person view can do stuff like that if they are enabled during the opening scene before you have picked your race and sex.
Accusing old usage of old versions as piracy? What a load of bull crap. Piracy is when you use something that you do not have the rights to, full stop. I actually believe i can even "crack" the game as much as I desire, if I legitimately own it and I don't redistribute the crack.
I've been playing fallout 4 Version 1.9.4 ever since CC came out because of how badly it broke some of my mods. They didn't give me any bug fixes, no free updates, all they gave me was shitty content to flood my hard drive with that I can't use unless I pay out the ass for it. That doesn't mean I didn't pay for my copy of Fallout 4. It just means I wanted to play a superior version of the product I payed for.
BloodfireSouls and that is fine for now however there will come a point where a new mod comes out that you want to install and try out but can’t because your game is not up to date. At that point you’ll have to ask yourself if it will be worth updating or missing out on the new mods. Either choice is perfectly acceptable so long as you acknowledge the downsides.
Something that I've noticed is that a lot of my mods did have updates, but most of the mod authors behind them had two versions. One where they were developing it for the superior 1.9.4 version of the game, and one for 1.10+. Frankly, I am extremely happy with my load order, and that's why I decided to downgrade. Really the only mods I would be interested in adding to it are the big projects that are nowhere near completion yet. F4NV, The Capital Wasteland Project, the standalone skills mod from Fallout Cascadia (not particularly interested in the full package of cascadia, as I believe it's a total conversion mod. I'm not a huge fan of total conversions, I'd much prefer additions to what I already have, not ripping out content I have in favor of new content.) So, I don't mind missing mods here and there untill those come out. However, like I said, you don't have to miss every mod, because there are some mod authors who are amazing enough to develop for both the superior 1.9.4, as well as 1.10+.
Arthmoor was part of my worst experience on r/skyrimmods ever, glad to know I'm not the only one that think he's an idiot. I wonder what Bethesda would think of his statement that "Skyrim is unplayable without the unofficial patch", I wonder what PS4 and Switch users think.
Mod authors shouldn't have to babysit their finished creation every week Bethesda decides to update the creation club. It's an easy way for the company to kill off free mods without having a "direct" involvement. If you want to stop anything without being blamed; destroy all possible conveniences while publicly offering your own spin. (Preferably saying how you've grown for years the same community you want to destroy.) If they honestly cared about the modding community they'd update the tools to make these mods. It's bizarre to see a "current gen" software still have problems an early 2000's software would have quickly patched out.
I'm lucky I have a pirated version of the game even though I own a copy on Steam. I did it because I'm lazy and I didn't want to log in every time I wanted to play but I'm happy about the added benefits. If Bethesda continues with their bullshit I'll gladly skip the "buying the game" part when they release TES 6.
I remember when I got skyrim for my birthday many years ago. Steam booted up and I went "what the fuck?!" Knew from day one that steam would be a problem though my thoughts on it were why do I need steam for a hard copy. Heard of all the neat bugs like giants launching you into space and... because I didn't get game on release by time got to play it was patched.
Not funny Same here. Many games I own on steam or origin I also keep pirated versions of to be safe. Or because I don't feel like downloading 50 gigs of a game every time I want another playthrough.
Until the GoG version of Oblivion I used an RG gamers version because I had 0 problems with it and OBSE. I have bought the game 3 times now and if it hadn't been for GoG I'd still be using it. I totally get it.
There's two solutions to microtransactions. 1. the default price for big titles become more expensive, let's say $120 per release. or 2. gamers shouldn't expect new investments and new gen tech every time a sequel is released.
"because that is the price that the market will bear" *Exactly*. So regardless of game production cost, the sweet spot is $60 so poor people can also buy the game and profit is expected. But this does not mean that profit is guaranteed. Big game companies seem to try and cover this: as is evident in the DLC and microtransactions we see coming up more and more in today's titles. It's not just about profit, it's about survival. At the end of the day none of that profit goes directly into the pockets of the managers anyway. It's going in the company -> so they can invest and make _new_ products and services -> so they can survive.
Loving my oldrim. It may have some issues but nothing like what I have been hearing about SE. I hope you are able to work out the bugs soon so you can get back to playing the game you love. I love your whit! Keep putting out these videos.
I'm not even thinking about touching SSE until SKSE is out of its beta. And even then it won't be unless Beyond Skyrim or the like makes a mod for it. The performance may be better, but the bullshit is not worth it.
IMHO The latest version of GTA San Andreas is less legit than the original, I mean why would they downgrade the graphics for PC to match the mobile version AND manage to cause regressions for major bugs by quite literally de-implementing bug fixes???
Well I didn't know creation club just breaks mods. Guess no point in bothering to play Skyrim or Fallout 4. As had exhausted the base game and planned to reinstall so could play with mods.
Awesomeness Taco it's the Special Edition HD Remake and Fallout 4 affected. Sucks, because I was nearing completion on FO4 and then suddenly my entire load order got ALPHABETICALLY SORTED after an update! why would they do something like that?
Those who say only the updated version of a game is the only legitimate version of a game must have never dealt with disks, because they don’t update those unless you have a connection to the internet. When I had an Xbox 360, I never had Xbox live or internet in general, so I was forced to play oblivion without any updates, patches, or dlc. So why would companies sell illegitimate versions of their own games?
Thank god, I was about ready to stay away from that. Seriously, Bethesda needs to get their heads out of their asses or else I'm sticking with retro and indie games forever.
“Legitimate version?” That’s as absurd as thinking the 2nd edition of a book that say fixes typos, adds an extra diagram, or maybe tweaks references (i.e., no substantive content changes) “delegitimizes” the first edition.
So by his logic the 1982 version of "Blade Runner" is no longer legitimate? So what about my copy of one of the 1974 printed editions of ENCYCLOPÆDIA BRITANNICA is that no longer legitimate? I have two versions of the Alexander movie, the "original" and the extended "director's cut"? Which is legitimate and is the Richard Burton movie of the same name no longer legitimate?
I empathise entirely. These days I'm so turned off by the CC bullshit that if I want to play an Elderscrolls game I go to Morrowind, and occasionally, Oblivion. Moreover, at least they can't screw with their older stuff (currently, anyway) , and it doesn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. Mostly, though, I play Witcher 3... which is outstanding on nearly every level, and CDPR is a company that actually appears to *respect* their customers and treats them well. Do I give them carte blanche? Do I view them as "friends" ? No, I'm far too cynical for that. However, I think their actions, especially when compared to those of Bethesda, speak for themselves.
I had the exact same problem with skyrim. It's one thing when I have start over, because of something I did. It's a whole another thing when the developers of the game forces me to start over. At level 40, and had finished the main questline, just finished the Dragonborn questline. You can imagine how frustrated I was when I loaded up the game the next day, only to find every save file I had was corrupted. Console users, like myself. Don't have the luxury of choosing not, to receive Bethesda's updates. We either have to buy into Bethesda's creation club scam, or live with vanilla version of the game. Bethesda must have a bunch of idiots working for them. Why else would they do these stupid business practices? If they keep this up, they'll probably end up going bankrupt sooner or later.
Regarding the auto-updates, I know Paradox uses the Steam beta functionality to allow users to go back to old versions of the game for CK2, EU4, and HOI4. Their DLC policy is complete and utter shit, but they do some OK stuff... every once in a while.
Y'all need to learn that it's ok to "pirate" games you already own. Remember when you needed physical disks to run games? You could "pirate" those games and get a no-CD crack. These days, you can do the same- call it a "no bullshit crack".
And what are your thoughts on what this will ultimately do to the modding culture of Bethesda games? I fear that a lot of modders are just not going to want to bother with it anymore. Having to get everyone on the same page to which version is gonna be the one to mod for and what you need to do to have that version. And even worse things to come for TES VI. It's going to be a buzzkill to the whole thing. I almost get the feeling that you don't even want to think about it too much.
If we get Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 at some point we're going to have the fun and exitemant of **************"LOOTBOXES"**************! Fuck the story and RPG elements! *************LOOTBOXES**************
A linear and edgy cinematic story, where you get presented with chores and you can spend money to make those chores easier/quicker as well as personalizing your character's cosmetic appearance. There will also be some minecraft and survival elements to it, because those are all the rage these days.
lol at the creator of the unofficial patch saying you're not playing a legit version of a game if it's not the latest version. With that mentality, he should be against player made mods as they're not official mods.
I have only played old DOS doom for the last month or so... And I use to make skyrim mods and play skyrim for 20 hours a week for the last few years. I just do not have the fire anymore...
When Creation Club arrived I immediately saw there would be issues with competition ($) and compatibility between CC and player-made mods. Most of you poo-pooed - but Zaric is already having compatibility issues on account of CC updates...so. There is an inherent conflict between CC (in-game microtransactions) and player-made mods and I am worried how this will affect TES6.... because guaranteed CC and full-on in game microtransactions (and probably co-op) will be fully implemented at launch in TES6 Creation Club as we have it in Skyrim is just the beginning
Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 will essentially be about "flashy, shiny, clinky gold", to paraquote Cicero, in the shape of LOOTBOXES and paid mods! So our children can get addicted to gambling ...
Good thing I am still sticking to the original Skyrim version for now, instead of 'upgrading' to the Special Edition. I'd rather not re-do my mods constantly with every single update... (Plus not all my used mods are available on the SE... it would make 'switching' pretty difficult and would mean I'd lose out on some mods. )
For the most part, I agree with you. I see this as more of a frustrating hassle where we're sandwiched between a rock and a hard place more than anything else. To me, the Creation Club is primarily intended for PS4 players considering that their mod selection isn't exactly robust in comparison to the attention that Xbox One is getting, or the infinite Nexus that PC has always had access to. I agree that paid mods sound scummy on paper, but I also think it's fair nevertheless to simply have more options when it comes to modifying your game in any way, shape, or form, and I am grateful for the free 100 credits they give you right off the bat as well as the free Survival Mode they offered for a time, and the Arcane Accessories creation I got with those 100 credits. Personally I'm enjoying them both, but enough about that. If you're the type of individual who can freely enjoy the most up to date version of Skyrim or Fallout with any Bethesda net or Creation Club content without issue, more power to you. On a personal level, I am one of those people and I happily enjoy Skyrim to this day, but I digress. I also feel like it's reasonable enough for a player to seek out their preferred version of the game if it means they can install the mods they wish to use for their game without hassle and enjoy their game in a way that makes them happy as can be. Ideally, any gamer would want to fine-tune their game in such a way that they feel is subjectively perfect, hence why mods exist. In my opinion of perfection, I use a number of magic and elven-oriented mods, but again I digress. With that said, I do not think this is entirely Bethesda's fault, and instead point my frustration towards Steam for the reasons Zaric explained - the auto updates. From day one of the Creation Club being unveiled, I had that nagging voice in my head that kept repeating "there is more to this". To be entirely honest with you, I am awful with words so I'll simply put it as this: I think that Bethesda was essentially forced to implement and design the Creation Club in the way that they did because of how Steam auto-updates function. It makes enough sense (at least to me) that an online service would need to keep up-to-date to function properly and to avoid compatibility issues, much like mods themselves. While it might make sense, that doesn't keep it from being frustrating. I think the Creation Club is excellent in concept but poor in execution because of Steam's auto-updates, and because it's an online service. In my personal opinion, I've always had a firm belief that mod makers of exceptional quality should have their work compensated due to the difficulty and time consumption that comes with making huge mods like Beyond Skyrim: Bruma, A Tale of Two Wastelands, The Forgotten City, Summerset Isles, the list goes on. I've always felt that they deserve to be rewarded simply for the effort they put in, and the potentially large amount of time they take out of their day and personal schedule to create these works. Whether that compensation is through Patreon, streaming, mail or Creation Club has never mattered to me, personally. What matters to me is that these people get the recognition and payment that they've earned. Like I said earlier, that doesn't mean this isn't a frustrating process. Having the game consistently update to keep the Creation Club functional will obviously cause compatibility issues with a number of mods, and anyone (myself included) can attest to being upset when your favorite mod is rendered broken because the game updated, regardless of what it may be. Personally, I had to deal with this issue far more than I should have during my time with Minecraft. If you ever played the Beta for that game, you knew how irritating it could be to constantly keep your favorite mods & texture packs up to date (more so with servers) because Minecraft was a game that updated very frequently back in its Alpha & Beta days. I myself had this struggle with OptiFine (a performance optimization mod) in particular, but I'm getting off track. The point I'm trying to make is that it's ultimately the same concept, and that I can understand why people are upset. Believe me, I do. I can't tell you how much I sympathize with Zaric's (and anyone else's) words when they say that this whole...fiasco...is causing a lot of frustration or hassle, and how it can essentially kill your motivation or drive to play a game that you love because the mods or tuning that you do to a game to make it perfect (in your eyes) no longer works...because of the Creation Club and Steam's auto-updates. I can assure you from the bottom of my heart that if I had to play Skyrim without Apocalypse, Ordinator, or Aurora (essentially all of Enai Siaion's mods) that my drive for Elder Scrolls would be far less. This is because those mods practically make the gameplay for me. I would be sinking a lot more of my time into a game like Fallout 4 or Warframe (as if I'm not already) if it weren't for those mods. Ultimately I can fully see what Bethesda wants to accomplish with the Creation Club and, assuming external Creators are given the majority of compensation, I'll support the idea. However, I feel as though it (along with us) are sandwiched into an uncomfortable and ill-fated position because of this auto-update fiasco, how those auto-updates can break traditional-style mods (Nexus), and how some members of both Bethesda and the community are acting (Arthmoor). I said quite a bit earlier in this essay of mine that I am awful with words, so simply put, I feel like this is a (ahem)...clusterfuck...that could have turned out for the better. I can't really say how, and besides I feel like Zaric is a far more intelligent person that could explain it better than I ever will. It all boils down to me thinking that this can work, I really believe it can, but it simply wasn't done right here. I leave it to other people with far more authority than me to take the discussion from here, because I'm just a lonely guy behind a screen giving his biased thoughts.
The version argument works for mods themselves too. When I downloaded Imperious Races of Skyrim I deliberately avoided the most recent update and downloaded the 3.7 version because it had abilities that were removed and changed in later versions abilities that I liked that were shown on the Brodual spotlight
With the time and effort I put into getting 400 mods to work on Skyrim 32bit, it is on another computer, offline only. I imagine many people have separate machines for certain games and of course another PC for older games, DOSbox etc. I have come to love the stealth archery/spellcasting build for Skyrim. There are so many mods for Skyrim that eventually every possible game alteration will be available, Skyrim isn't going anywhere.
Right on man, as far as I'm concerned if a dev and/or publisher comes along and completely changes and indeed ruins the product that you already paid for, then you're well within your rights (morally, not legally) to use whatever pirated/cracked version of the game you like, let alone a previous version of the legally downloaded software. People didn't buy Skyrim 6 years ago on the understanding that it could be riddled with micro-transaction cancer that kills all of your mods 6 years later, in fact I'd venture to say that the majority of people who bought it on PC did so with the express purpose of modding the game, and that's something that Bethesda have up until now encouraged and even marketed the game on. The impact that Creation Club is having on free mods is far too convenient for Bethesda/Zenimax, not only that but it completely changed the product that they sold to you to the point of being unrecognisable, free mods and the community that exists around them are a huge part of these games identity. Do whatever you like to secure the version of the single-player game you paid for, even if that involves actually pirating it, the corporate sycophants can cry about it all they like but they're nowhere near the majority here.
I remember back when I installed Empire: Total War on my old computer in 2009, and it required Steam. I thought to myself, herein lies the end of the joy of simply buying and owning a game. Almost 9 years later, I am disappointingly thrilled to see I was correct in my misgivings.
Sadly, I have to give up on these games now, I'm done! I have 'Oldrim' fully modded but it's a complete crash fest just like Fallout 4. I bought a high end gaming rig and it runs like shit no matter what I do, barely playable. I was going to install Special Edition but now there's this Creation Club bullshit breaking mods. These developers are ruining everything!! UGH
I haven't been playing much but the little I have of oldrim I haven't noticed any problems. Is it a problem with steam workshop mods or something? Or does CC automatically install with FO4 and SSE now?
Hey could someone explain / confirm that only the Skyrim Special Edition (64bit?) got the creation club update because my steam didn't update my old Skyrim 1.9.32.0.8 (+SKSE 1.7.8 ). And I pray to Talos that it never does!
Bethesda themselves stated in august?? (i think) that only Skyrim SE is getting CC (Skyrim SE and Fallout 4 use the same engine, both support .ESL format while Oldrim does not). I think this may even be in some FAQ. No CC for Oldrim. That is why Oldrim dosn't pop up in Steam Store search tab if you type "skyrim". Only Skyrim SE shows up.
"They certainly aren't hiring you for the creation club for that purpose anyway..." Ouch! Interesting video, as always. Oh, by the way, did you take a look at Mihail creature mods, and if so, what's your take on them?
I bought Legendary edition about 2-3 years ago and i play it often. A day will come when i no longer need it of that i am sure and the Special edition will be my go to game for the best Skyrim experience but that day looks so far away.
you're pretty level headed, Zaric. Thanks for your research, editing work and time. Oh and this, on the nexus is handy. Fallout4.exe Auto-Backup www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/26956/?
Well, in case of SSE and Fallout 4, you can simply backup your current version of it's EXE, and than when the game updates, you can role back that version so the Script Extenders can continue to work until it get's a new update.
In all honesty the only time im gonna touch the Special edition of Skyrim is when script extender is released as i can play Skyrim on a 64 bit version that is the only reason to buy it for me personally :)
Zaric, I have a question about lore. I have wondered recently about the citizens in TES games and basicly my question is, why do the normal people of Tamriel never mention Sithis or Padomay, Anu etc. Do they just not know or is there some other reason to that?
I remember when Mojang made it so you could launch Minecraft, in any version you want, alpha, beta, you could seed a world as old as you wanted then reload the save with all the new crafting stuff. It's great if you want to try a mod that hasn't been updated in years, wish more games would do this officially.
There was a guy on agdq, a charity speedrun marathon, who unplugged his wii u from the Internet for months because the bugs he was abusing in his game got patched, and wii u auto updates.
It's not as simple as it used to be with just disabling updates and not worrying about it. At this point there are too many hoops to jump through and precautions to take simply to play the game you bought the way you want to play it, that it's better to either stick with Oldrim or be done with it all and find a new game to fill Bethesda's role.
Am I missing something? I can bypass the Steam update by running FO4.exe or launcher.exe without needing to update. With Fallout 4, I've also started making backups of the game exe. Is that too many hoops? Because if that is, you're one damn funny guy. Saying that's too many hoops for a Bethesda game.
+nayroy18 I never wanted the update or any CC involvement and it was unavoidable after it started downloading. Mods are broken so I need to dig through them and figure out what needs an update, and this will continue as long as the CC gets regular updates. Your method of bypassing updates doesn't work for SSE unless you're launching SKSE64 specifically. So yes, that's too much for me. Sorry that someone wanting to click and play their game without a bunch of extra bullshit that was added months later against their will is "funny" to you. I'm sure Bethesda and everyone with common sense will be having a laugh too when you bend over and open wide with no questions for whatever they want to shove into you.
+Zaric Zhakaron that sounds annoying im already mad when all my plugins reset after i open skyrim trough the launcher imagine all my script extenders breaking at the same time the horror
I just don't get it. All my Steam games are not set to auto update, and I never seen or noticed any game update without me launching via Steam. So I get really confused when people say that Fallout 4 updated even with with auto update disabled. I didn't update Fallout 4 until a few weeks after the second batch of CC or whatever F4SE v0.6.0 is for. It's funny to me because it's a "Bethesda game", where you need to download mods, and sometimes other programs, to try and fix their game. In comparison of turning auto updates on Steam off, launching through the exes in the game's folder, backing up FO4exe, it's nothing to what current and older titles needs/needed to be stable and playable.
DOes this Creation Club update have anything to do with the Background not showing up when inside of Whiterun? I mean the mountains and trees and everything outside of the walls. The LOD.
There is away to reload a previous version directly from steams database without being a pirate. I've done this a few times to get by until SKSE got updated.
reminds me of when GoG got Fallout NV, and modders were saying "take your pirate software and leave" on the Nexus for the 4gb patch.. even though the author reneged his statements, and then informed us the GoG version comes with the 4g-patch native
There is a way to avoid auto updates. I own a legit copy of Fallout 4 for PC that I paid for. I play with about 30 or so mods, I think. It varies. One day, an auto-update broke Script Extender and thus put about 3-4 of my favorite mods out of commission. I waited for the SE devs to release a new version that got everything working again (about a day or so-those guys are amazing). After that, I made a backup of my FO4 install dir just in case and placed Steam in “Offline Mode.” Problem solved-no more auto-updates. (I’m not sure why anyone would consider this “pirating.” I paid for the game and the DLCs!) Another option is to back up your game .exe and drop the backup into your install dir after an auto-update. I haven’t actually tried this but I think it would probably work.
Perhaps Steam has changed its behavior since this video was made. Just recently, I had Skyrim break because it updated and SKSE wasn't compatible. It was very annoying, but I was able to downgrade to the previous version using the download_depot, a built-in feature of Steam. Then, I disabled updates for Skyrim and didn't have any more trouble: guidescroll.com/2017/03/steam-how-to-download-older-versions-of-games/
I would say overpricing the mods then further gouging the players by paying for a microtransaction currency then seriously underpaying the modders for the work is pretty bad.
Why am I getting the feeling that Skyrim classic edition is going to be the last Bethesda game I'll really mod to hell and play religiously? I keep thinking while Tes 6 will probably be awesome, I'll have to preform miracles just to get it decent.
So sad to see where the mod community is heading. When i was modding oblivion it was really a blast, nice people all around, great ideas flourishing, collaboration and friendly advices... Making stuff just for the sake of making stuff, y'know? And now it's more like guys are turning into cutthroat thugs =(
Your view with putting off Fallout 4 and Skyrim mirrors mine Zaric. I suppose I'm simply lazy for not going through the simple but frankly asinine method of preserving a version of each game that allows the script extender and the mods I want to function properly.
I watched an entire add of connan o'brian playing assassins creed origins thinking it was somehow part of the video, then it ended and the actual video played. crafty bastards...
Same, I tried my hardest to make Fallout 4 work after CC. I gave up and never touched it since. Everything around it is made to force you into the new update and stop using mods. There are less and less mods by the update as modders can't be fucked or left LONG ago and I'm not even talking about big mods here, I'm talking about game fixes that arent addressed in the unofficial patches. I just stopped and moved on, I mean I haven't played and owned as many games since I was a kid! Fallout died and skyrim was killed then I moved to mass effect, worms, dead space, wasteland, fable, Farcry, Read Dead Redemption, saints row, GTA, empire at war, KotOR! Shit I had forgotten how many amazing games there were in the world before I was consumed by fallout only to be in the end spat out.
The auto updates on Fallout 4 P***ed me off. I had an awesome difficult but rewarding Survival game with Horizon, Sim Settlements, and ~150 other mods. I had finally balanced it so I was only crashing rarely and had slowly been expanding my sphere of influence out from my Red Rocket metropolis then Creation Club arrives breaks everything. Some mods updated others said "Nope not updating for the sake of updating" so I had to can it all... However Skyrim is far easier to fix, I just migrated back to non-special edition, it has more mods anyway.
There are some great mods for newer versions and fighting simply feels better, but the mods are small or don't have a progression system that I like. No, thanks, I rather stay 1.7.10 and play witchery. Or 1.8.9 with thaumcraft. Or intangible. But as soon as thaumcraft 6 is out, I am definetly going to try it.
Witcher 3 might be able to scratch some of that itch for you. I stopped playing my Bethesda games recently, and went back to W3 and couldn't be happier.
The older games need a remake so they feel smoother and maybe some new feature or content (and for the love of fucking god DO NOT add creation club to them)
Arthmoor acts like he is the Grand Zealot from the children of atom far harbor when it comes to the creation club
Mr haze my guess is he hopes bethesda will buy his patches
Funny thing is he wouldn't get royalties he'd just get paid chump change one time for each Creation club mod. If the realistic rumors are to be believed.
ok guys do you guys understand how creation club works? modders who apply basically become freelance developers and are paid a salary for their work similar to who you would pay a plumber or an electrician they do the job they get paid this is how things like this have worked since the dawn of currency how can people be so daft thinking someone would be paid more than once for contract work its hilarious
>create illegitimate versions by making your own patches
>complain that others who use older version of a legit game are using illegitimate versions
What the...
"Only the latest version of a software is legit" ? Soo, me buying an official version of Windows 7 was like..not legit cause we have Windows 10 now ?
If there is anyone in the modding community who needed to stop being treated with any kind of credibility whatsoever a long fucking time ago, it's Arthmoor. I'm not kidding when I say that he has never admitted to being wrong about anything, ever. That alone is enough to earn him a seat on the short bus, if not kicked out of the fucking community altogether. But does anyone have the balls to do it? Nope. Motherfuckers are afraid that the patches will vanish (they wouldn't), so they let him strut around with an undeserved air of authority, setting a bad example for others.
Makes me sick.
>no more free mods
>re-releasing the game multiple times
>micro transactions
Well i guess i'll go play chess or checkers or some shit because at least a board game won't try to sap away all my money.
Harm0nicCha0s Chess now has the wizard piece available as a DLC!
Harm0nicCha0s insert 5 dollars to check opponent immeadenty.
Chess but you by all the pieces from loot boxes.
I wouldn't mind some Chess lootboxes, stickers and hats, as long as it's mostly cosmetic. Those AAA Chess developers need to feed their families after they spent their $150 million savings on marketing you know. The studio mascot dog is also in need of some expensive surgery.
+Harm0nicCha0s Chess now has lootcrates in them!
As a wise mer once said, "Bethesda Studios itself is mad. It is dead, but it dreams it lives."
I ...want..to bake him some cookies yea thats it, can i have his adress
*Starts polishing pitchfork*
madscientistshusta May I ask what kind of cookies they are?
Darkslayer289 all you need to know is that filthy frank made them specially for this guy
lace each and every single one of them with cyanide
Start tying your nooses. I say we should hang them as a witch.
madscientistshusta cringe
OMG, I can't believe people are such cheapskates...
where's the problem to pay $99.99 for the Ultra Edition + $39.99 Season Pass + withhold content, aka day one DLCs
+ Microtrashactions to negate brutally dragged out gameplay mechanics?? Don't forget to PreOrder or content is locked for gud
I remember when Steam was advertised as "more convinient than piracy", but with all this bullshit it's certainly not true anymore.
i am happy with my 32bit Skyrim, mountain of mods and fixes but it runs great
Hmm, yeah that is really broken. I know mods that add like the players body in first person view can do stuff like that if they are enabled during the opening scene before you have picked your race and sex.
*I WAS THE MASTERMIND BEHIND THE WHOLE CREATION CLUB AFFAIR!!*
(Preferably saying how you've grown for years the same community you want to destroy.)
If they honestly cared about the modding community they'd update the tools to make these mods. It's bizarre to see a "current gen" software still have problems an early 2000's software would have quickly patched out.
not even Bethesda will stop me from taking the TOD out of my Fallout! :P
I still use legendary edition because special edition doesn't support 4:3 screen resolution
Old Bethesda is best Bethesda.
yep
makes me wanna make a game inspired by daggerfall.
Yeah! They went way down hill after Wayne Gretzky Sports.
Let's invite the corporate conquistadors into a long traditioned community of modders, what could possibly go wrong
Or because I don't feel like downloading 50 gigs of a game every time I want another playthrough.
im glad that i played skyrim for 5 or more years even before dawngaurd and thus have the original skyrim :D
I tend to also play cracked version of games even though I buy them on steam.
Until the GoG version of Oblivion I used an RG gamers version because I had 0 problems with it and OBSE. I have bought the game 3 times now and if it hadn't been for GoG I'd still be using it. I totally get it.
Arthmoor has a persecution complex.
There is an amazing mod that wipes creationclub from your game i have it, however fo4/skyrim crashes when i mod it so i cant use it currently lol
Zaric is a hilarious youtuber he deserves way more attention.
Microtransactions in a full $60 game is absolute cancer
There's two solutions to microtransactions.
1. the default price for big titles become more expensive, let's say $120 per release.
or
2. gamers shouldn't expect new investments and new gen tech every time a sequel is released.
Keep putting out these videos.
same here, my computer cant even run special edition so im having almost zero issues
I'm not even thinking about touching SSE until SKSE is out of its beta.
And even then it won't be unless Beyond Skyrim or the like makes a mod for it. The performance may be better, but the bullshit is not worth it.
glad i didnt waste money on it >_>
IMHO The latest version of GTA San Andreas is less legit than the original, I mean why would they downgrade the graphics for PC to match the mobile version AND manage to cause regressions for major bugs by quite literally de-implementing bug fixes???
Well I didn't know creation club just breaks mods. Guess no point in bothering to play Skyrim or Fallout 4. As had exhausted the base game and planned to reinstall so could play with mods.
or the best work around go back to original skyrim
better game better scripting engine better mods and no updates
well it's not the content it self that breaks mods, what does it is they have to update the game every time they add more content to creation club.
domehammer Does this affect the original skyrim? Or is this specifically a special edition problem?
Awesomeness Taco it's the Special Edition HD Remake and Fallout 4 affected. Sucks, because I was nearing completion on FO4 and then suddenly my entire load order got ALPHABETICALLY SORTED after an update! why would they do something like that?
i ended up uninstalling fallout 4 ..
Well. Least there isnt a Creation Club in the normal version of Skyrim. Only in the Special edition.
Thank god, I was about ready to stay away from that. Seriously, Bethesda needs to get their heads out of their asses or else I'm sticking with retro and indie games forever.
...Yet. At this point I wouldn't put it past them to try and shoehorn it into Oblivion and Morrowind as well. Hang onto those physical disks, people.
Im glad i have a version of skyrim se and fo4 saved on a drive before se so if the mods breaks i can go back
I empathise entirely.
I hope to see a continuation of the TES Lore Series, if you ever feel up to it again.
great video man
I had the exact same problem with skyrim.
If they keep this up, they'll probably end up going bankrupt sooner or later.
yup look at what happened to Evolve, day one DLC up the a$$ and that game died first month, anyway only a matter of time before they die too
Regarding the auto-updates, I know Paradox uses the Steam beta functionality to allow users to go back to old versions of the game for CK2, EU4, and HOI4. Their DLC policy is complete and utter shit, but they do some OK stuff... every once in a while.
Well, Fallout 4 is not a real Fallout game so i couldn't care less what version is legitimate.
Y'all need to learn that it's ok to "pirate" games you already own.
Remember when you needed physical disks to run games? You could "pirate" those games and get a no-CD crack. These days, you can do the same- call it a "no bullshit crack".
If someone wanted to pirate the game they'd just go to the pirate bay and rip that version+crack
they wouldn't be asking for it on reddit
Very good fuel for thought, as always, Zaric!
Arthmoor seems like he's crazy
There is an inherent conflict between CC (in-game microtransactions) and player-made mods and I am worried how this will affect TES6.... because guaranteed CC and full-on in game microtransactions (and probably co-op) will be fully implemented at launch in TES6
Creation Club as we have it in Skyrim is just the beginning
Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 will essentially be about "flashy, shiny, clinky gold", to paraquote Cicero, in the shape of LOOTBOXES and paid mods! So our children can get addicted to gambling ...
Arthmoor and Gambit77 are the absolute worst in dealing with mod users.
"the newest version is the legitimate version"
im sure when you had your windows 7 while vista was up you'd disagree.
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows ME, 98, and 95 would all disagree as well!
I imagine many people have separate machines for certain games
and of course another PC for older games, DOSbox etc. I have come to love the stealth archery/spellcasting build for Skyrim. There are so many mods for Skyrim that eventually
every possible game alteration will be available, Skyrim isn't going anywhere.
UGH
Daggerfall has metric! Metric is lore friendly. OMG!
Creation club fucked up my game too
I think I'm having a stroke 0
Nice username, man
what creation club problem :D oldrim ftw
Only Skyrim SE shows up.
yes but in the reviews a very very great person put a link to it
Praise the Nine Divines and the All-Maker for that, I was going to steer clear of Oldrim if they did this bullshit.
only version I would ever play again, but my Fallout 4 is screwed at least there is a mod to remove the CC from it ;)
@hubertET Thank you for clearing it up!
5:40 well spoke
By Azura, by Azura, BY AZURA!
This is why I've continued using oldrim, even after skse 64 alpha came out.
So this is how they plan to destroy the mods that give for free what Bethesda means to sell. Wow, this is infuriating.
A cool thing about GOG Galaxy is that it let's you rollback updates to a previous version.
you're pretty level headed, Zaric. Thanks for your research, editing work and time.
Oh and this, on the nexus is handy. Fallout4.exe Auto-Backup
www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/26956/?
I WOULD LOVE ANOTHER RUN OF TALES OF 2 WASTELANDS
Well, in case of SSE and Fallout 4, you can simply backup your current version of it's EXE, and than when the game updates, you can role back that version so the Script Extenders can continue to work until it get's a new update.
In all honesty the only time im gonna touch the Special edition of Skyrim is when script extender is released as i can play Skyrim on a 64 bit version that is the only reason to buy it for me personally :)
Zaric,
I have a question about lore. I have wondered recently about the citizens in TES games
and basicly my question is, why do the normal people of Tamriel never mention Sithis or Padomay, Anu etc.
Do they just not know or is there some other reason to that?
This is why I have still have my Xbox360 version with patch 1.9. When I really want that vanilla experience (even though its not great)
I remember when Mojang made it so you could launch Minecraft, in any version you want, alpha, beta, you could seed a world as old as you wanted then reload the save with all the new crafting stuff. It's great if you want to try a mod that hasn't been updated in years, wish more games would do this officially.
There was a guy on agdq, a charity speedrun marathon, who unplugged his wii u from the Internet for months because the bugs he was abusing in his game got patched, and wii u auto updates.
You can run the game's launcher and game exe without having Steam force an update. At least for FO4, haven't tried NV or TES 5.
I haven't been able to play SKYRIM LE since the Steam update last week.
reminds me of when GoG got Fallout NV, and modders were saying "take your pirate software and leave" on the Nexus for the 4gb patch.. even though the author reneged his statements, and then informed us the GoG version comes with the 4g-patch native
Unpatched version of the game is certainly more legit than modded version of the game, if we're going this route.
Honestly Zaric, imo, your playthroughs of oblivion and daggerfalls are my favorites hands down!
(I’m not sure why anyone would consider this “pirating.” I paid for the game and the DLCs!)
Another option is to back up your game .exe and drop the backup into your install dir after an auto-update. I haven’t actually tried this but I think it would probably work.
If Arthmoor wants to make money he should apply for a q a position at Bethesda, he's doing that anyway.
I haven't played Skyrim since the Creation Club update. Whenever I go to play, I see the update, reconsider - play something else. I'm free XD
Perhaps Steam has changed its behavior since this video was made. Just recently, I had Skyrim break because it updated and SKSE wasn't compatible. It was very annoying, but I was able to downgrade to the previous version using the download_depot, a built-in feature of Steam. Then, I disabled updates for Skyrim and didn't have any more trouble: guidescroll.com/2017/03/steam-how-to-download-older-versions-of-games/
gotta have all the super cool DLC if you wanna play the mods.
Anyone who thinks cc is good is a fool.
I agree, sad part is there are better free versions of most of that stuff already out. On another note yay.
Its not good but its also not horrible
I would say overpricing the mods then further gouging the players by paying for a microtransaction currency then seriously underpaying the modders for the work is pretty bad.
Geoff Sarlo the content is pretty good, and if you hate their business practices then just dont buy it
CyberSaurus0829 Doesn't mean it belongs in existence
There's a mod that hides all creation club stuff from your game (both the news and the menu). I gotta say it's a 10/10, my new favorite mod.
I remember when GTA IV needed to be downgraded to use the LCPDFR mod. I can't remember how, but it wasn't through Steam.
Its awesome to know you like warframe, how have you been enjoying poe update
You too?
14:48 why is there an ender eye in the item menu lmao
Harm0nicCha0s it's the original m8 Minecraft just stole it.
I know there is something that can be done with auto updates for fallout 4 I think it's a programme on Nexus
+Zaric Zhakaron
There's a mod "Beyond Bruma" for Skyrim and it's FANTASTIC, the writing is better than in Skyrim. Check it out!
I miss the Battlespire streams.
Playing minecraft with mods makes you realize how necessary using older versions is.
