Angel Unaired Pilot

- The unaired pilot for Angel that never aired! This is the pilot that Joss Whedon previewed to Warner Bros. execs to get the go-ahead to make Angel.
I dont know what the songs are, and I don't know why there is a scene from Blade in this. It's the way the rip was when I did it back in 1998.

The most angel ever spoke in one sitting
This is more of a trailer than an unaired pilot.
Diagreed! Both shows were Masterpieces from Season 1 till the end. Some of the best on Television!
Angel is still one of the best series... seriously! I still feel sorry they had to stop at the 5th season :( I loved Spike... and of course Lindsey. :))
Doyle: "You're quite the masculine fella there aren't ya?" Lmao
damn, that promo is badass, especially the final actor scene, reminds me so much of the 90s movie style.
Loved the show so much, but seeing this i wish theyd have stuck with the darker more gritty theme even.
David and Charisma are still my favorites after all those years, miss their combined "stage presence"
Angel. Is. Awesome
FYI--All songs are by VAST. In order they are "Here," "Dirty Hole," "Temptation," and "I'm Dying." All four are off their album Visual Auditory Sensory Theater.
This isn't an unaired pilot it's more akin to a sizzle reel to show networks they watch it and the decide on whether or not to make a pilot
Gotta say I miss this show - yeah sure I got it on dvd and it is on netflix - but no other show has provided me with more WTF moments.
R.I.P., Glenn.
The actual pilot that did air was much better. It provided the necessary exposition and introductory information. Such was why Cordelia popped up, and who the hell Doyle is. Puls the length...i think this wasn't a pilot so much as a pitch, a promo the company and Joss Wheden used to sell the show. Clearly, it worked.
Oh, ok.
As far as Darla in Buffy goes, she was only originally planned to be in just the first two episodes, getting killed in The Harvest, but then after they started filming Joss Whedon had a better idea, namely that she was Angel's Sire. So she had one more episode and nothing until the end of S2 a year later.
Angel was different too his first few appearances to how he was in Buffy s 2 & 3, and pretty weak. They just hadn't had much time for characterisation.
20 years today
Thanks, i've been looking for awhile now.
RIP Glenn Quinn
Thank You.
@JohnLogieBaird - You're right, this ISN'T an "unaired pilot," it's what's known as a "DEMO REEL," to show to networks, investors, etc. to just give 'em a general IDEA of what you want to be doing with your show... It's not SUPPOSED to be cohesive, really!
Not to mention they briefly used a clip from the first Blade movie at 4:30.
This Pilot was AWESOME! & SUPERB!
To bad they had to go continue the series in comics, since the comics are the one with the most exciting stories, fights, and endings!!!
For those who wonder which comics i mean:
Angel: After the Fall
Angel: After the Fall - First Night
Others are yet to come out in my country. (EU) - (NL, more specificly)
If there r people who could tell me the titles for the ones that follow up these, plz let me know.
This makes it easier for me to keep an eye on!
I love Angel, awesome pilot! that's for sure
No! I undoubtly know which axe he means which he calls "Slayer-Axe", it's the one that Buffy uses on the series big finale! The one that Fray (from the spin-off comics) also uses.
I know he meant that axe since he also mentioned that there aren't any clips form season seven either...
As James Marsters once said, Angel thinks he can never be redeemed for what he did while soulless and evil. Spike also thinks he can never be redeemed but just blames Angel for everything.
The whole atonement thing doesn't make sense. Their souls were not involved in any of the nasty vampire stuff!
Another mystery: before being restored to them, where WERE Angel's and Spike's souls? Buffy's was in heaven while she was dead, and she remembered it. Why can't they?
Awesome i wish it stayed like this
ALL of the music here seems to be of the first VAST album, "Visual Audio Sensory Theater." They DID use one of 'em in the episode where they meet Officer Kate for the first time, at that "Looking For Mr. Goodbat"-type sleaze bar. But yes, I kinda wish they'd used it for the titles, as well!
I understand what u mean now, haha i indeed misunderstood you mate. Sorry for that, it's cool by the way that u follow the entire universe as well. ;) What a fan!! :) U RULE HAH!! Greetz KeybladeMaster009
Cool thats a sweet intro to the series :)
The song at 2:19 would've made awesome credits. Like the song they ended up with but this song is more like I thought they'd have gone with.
Lucky? Just proves how very sad I am!!! lol
I think the writers were under pressure and just didn't have time. They had to write something that fitted Joss Whedon's guide for the main story arcs, ensure each character got enough screen time and lines according the actors' contracts & billing AND make it all fit around commercial breaks.
The scene with the most mistakes: 1st time we saw William pre-turning, 1880 London. A mistake in nearly every line!
Quite alright. =) Thanks.
From birth to 1753 =27 depending on birthday. Many references ARE wrong. Part of the charm, right? :)
Angel said 241 in Sept 97 because Giles said in S1 he was 240 "or so" and writers just added 1, but in Apr '98 his turning was dated 1753 which made him 244 by end of 1997! Whedon +co got it wrong. Cordy in Dear Boy, late 2000: "growth spurt at 248?" Angel:"247!"
Spike, The Initiative, Oct 99: "I'm only 126!" but then we learned he was turned in 1880, making him no older than 119 in 1999.
Elfaro let me explain:
This pilot was made after they completed only 3 seasons of Buffy, that's also the period they started Angel's first season.
Buffy uses the Slayer-Axe just about the same period that Season 4 of Angel is over.
U should definitly follow both series and the official comics that follow directly after that.
Someone on the Angel crew was a big VAST fan - there's, like 3 or 4 songs by them in this and another in the series, itself.
Didn't know Joss was a big fan of that first Vast album.
Doyle!
Nah, season 5 really struck gold, if you ask me. The completion of the overarching story line felt rather rushed, though, but it was still awesome in a way that truly felt like a completion of the series. Personally, I didn't much care for season 2s magic not-so-fun-land, or the handling of teen-Connor, but that's just my five cents...
You could read the comic...... I mean the one of the new season.... just like Buffy they pick up where it left off literally right where they left off and do it in comic form.....
The body DOES die then gets re-animated by "a demon"
Having their souls back makes Angel & Spike people again, but with unnaturally reanimated dead bodies. They each fight their inner demon all the time and they each remember & are tormented by what IT did.
It's that soul that goes to heaven or hell.
Therefore it doesn't make sense for the soul that wasn't there to have to atone for what a demon did with the deceased's body. Clear now?
You mean the clip of Buffy with the axe that was from "Anne," the first episode of the third season, which was made a year before the first episode of Angel? The clip that was in the opening BtVS credits for years? That axe?
I would never say Darla was a mistake. I mean on Buffy she lacks the strenght she has on Angel or in flashbacks but thats as far as mistakes go with her. I meant I thought they said she was seaching for a mate for 400 yrs before she found Liam apparently I was wrong and got my fact mixed up.
Just a note on the info section. You say its the unaired pilot that never aired. Thats what unaired means. The qualification isnt necessary.
Pretty good, actually.
Really? Huh. I knew "Touched" was, but that's because I hunted it down like a madwoman. I luuuuuuuuurve that song. It's AWESOME. I used to think it was James Marsters fronting because the voice is so similar.
A short clip of the movie 'Blade' at 4:29
This awaome
I know that, I own both shows. I only read one volume of Angel comic but I'm gonna read it all and I know what axe you're talking about. I'm just saying it wasn't in this video. Thats impossible as it wasn't around until season 7. I dunno what you thought I was saying but you must of misunderstood me.
@angylofanarkii where do you get the song from 4:50??? any idea's on whats its called?
The Darling Violetta theme is soooo much better. I might just think so because I love cello music, but, yeah. It's better.
If the atonement thing did factor in, hell Angel would've been atoned while on Buffy. Didn't he helped or played a major role in like 2 or 3 world ending plots. Cuz I remember The Master, That season 3 show with those freaky blue women trying to open the hellmouth, and the Mayor. Then Spike at the end of Buffy. Aren't both vamps supposed to be atoned for their crimes now?
@kurtywurty85 doesn't matter if you're a girl or not, Angel still aimed more for the Male Demographic while Buffy was aimed at the girls/family demographic, Creator Joss Whedon said so himself in an interview, look it up.
Think it's at 4:30 when the clip shows up I could be wrong.
I really don't understand what you're trying to say here. Not trying to be mean, but punctuation really does help make things clear.
Are you saying Darla was a mistake? ... or that she made many mistakes?
She was turned early 1600s and found Liam when she was around 150.
When did anyone say she was searching for 400 years? I never heard that.
They said she was about 400 when she turned up in L.A., Angel S2.
@avathequeen14 VAST - I'm dying THATS THE NAME OF THE SONG THERE......FINALLY GOT IT RIGHT FROM THE COMMENTS HERE :)
I don't see the slayer Axe, and I don't see any clips from season seven...o.o;
@avathequeen14 "dirty hole" by VAST
They really need to get there fact striaght. lol Lucky you do.
Also, do you know the last one? At the very end?
What is the name of the song that plays at 3:03 - 3:29 ?
Whats the song that starts at 4:54 plz message me the answer soon someone!
Does anyone know the name of the songs used in this.
How so if anything it was Darla I mean didn't they say she was searching for a mate/Child for over 400 yrs. yet it was only 100 maybe 200 yrs before she found Liam.
vadt?Already? In 1x02 they used their song touched! xD
What are the songs in here?
@spikerocks9 I WANT TO KNOW TOOO! :D
what song starts at about 4:58?
Dirty Hole by Vast
Angel was way better than Buffy, even James Marsters (Spike) multiple times said he had a way funner and better time on Angel than on Buffy, especially since it was a Man's show, now TV is a disgrace (except for shows like Supernatural, Human Target, House, Leverage)
2Good2BeTrue45 I love both shows, but i think BTVS had the most brilliant episodes of Buffyverse.
@kribiboy yeah, except the last two seasons went off in the direction of crazyville and it didn't look like it was going to be redeemable. Much as I loved the show, the overarching storylines SUCKED after season three. Hell, the overarching storyline of season three wasn't that great either. Much akin to Buffy season...anything above 3. Still love the shows, of course, and still watched, but...they went downhill.
angel was supposedly turned by darla when he was 26, not 27...a goof in the pilot, or is just every single other reference wrong..lol
I really enjoyed the 1st season of this show, 2nd was OK but I felt after Doyle was gone that the show gradually lost its identity and became something else. I stopped watching after season 3.
Who passed away
Glenn Quinn who played Doyle, he died on December 3,2002 of a drug overdose almost 14 years ago
Anyone know the song at 3:52?
Never mind, it's Vast - Temptation, for y'all who wanna know.
Yah and what a horrible way for him to kill her off originally with holy water and I have to agree Angel was weak on Buffy heck every character that went from Buffy to Angel was weak and got stronger except Spike.lol
Ugh it's sooo bad
Rachel Parker no it’s not you rat
This is more of a trailer than an unaired pilot.
