- Check out the total makeover I did on this really beat up, trashed out thrift store dresser I bought a couple of weeks back! I smoothed it back out, painted the body "UFO" gray and the drawers white, and I left some wood details for contrast. It turned out pretty cool!

Really sweet of you to acknowledge the people who would rather keep pieces like this in original finish but to be honest we have gotten to the point where everyone thinks they have a right to critique you and almost like shaming you into doing what they want. I do not agree with that. You can do what you want with your time, money and skills and you shouldnt have to justify it. That rant finished, I really loved the project and I definitily enjoy seeing your transformations. I wish i had your skills. 😊
I think most furniture enthusiasts are fine with destroying pieces that have no value but if the goal is to make money then you have to do some basic research and when you stumble onto a piece with potential it probably should be saved or sold to someone who will. There's more than enough crap furniture out there to play with.
Makes me think of “The Jetson’s” Really like it
I love the original dresser. I'd totally just sand it, stain it again, and keep it as close to the original look as possible. Beautiful piece!
THATS BEAUTIFUL.
Retro look awesome
Thank you for sharing all your hard work! Proof of elbow grease and patience!
thanks!
I just looked up 'Hooker Furniture", it's very expensive; had you restored it you could have gotten a great price.
WOW IT HAS LOVELY BONES! Great job I would love that piece in my house!
As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to buy it. Another lady was eyeing it up too as I was looking at it, so I snagged it quick.
Gorgeous!
This is GORGEOUS!! I love the curves and lines on mid century modern pieces!!! Great color choices also!!
That looks sooooooooooooo AMAZING ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I always enjoy watching your videos, they never seize to spark my creativity. I love your editing style and the way you share your techniques.
Oh man these pieces sell for huge amounts of money when restored. But all in all you turned it into a unique piece I LOVE it, great job. I LOVE mid century furniture but they are so expensive
New to the channel and, AWESOME FLIP!! Definitely a keeper!
Hi. Your dresser came out fantastic. Really pretty. As far as the knobs, they look really good the way the have an antique touch to them, it looks better with the dark in them. Thank you for your inspirational videos. I want to make an island from a dresser😳.
Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I agree on the knobs. If they ended up all shiny and new, they might have looked a little out of place.
Hey! I recently turned a craigslist dresser into a kitchen Island. I think it turned out pretty cute. I kind of did a similar paint/stain finish to it as this video. Outside I did in white paint and stained the drawer fronts. Added a custom counter top from Home Depot. Not too pricey.
That dresser turned out awesome!!! It looks like a great piece of furniture and I am happy you decided to keep it :) Hooker is a good brand.
Thanks! I've bought and sold a lot of pieces of furniture, but this was the first Hooker piece I had seen. It's made really nice, so I'll definitely keep my eye out for more.
Great Job!!!
that's really cool, I would buy that in a heartbeat :)
Very nice
I have no idea how you come up with these beautiful ideas. Amazing job and thank you for explaining what you do and why. It helps because I'm very new to restoring and flipping. God bless 😊 ✝️
Well, the original idea was to keep it simple with wood drawers and a white body. But after sanding the drawer faces too much, I had to fix the screw up, so my wife suggested doing a matching pattern on the drawer edges to cover it up. I did that on another dresser for the same reason, so I figured it would work well on this one too.
Amazing , I am a DIYER Furniture Flipper , your ideas are so creative. Thanks for posting
thanks! glad you liked it
Wh did you sand it down so good if your going to paint?
What a beautiful job .
thanks!
Amazing ✨🤓🎨 great job wish you do a video every week again
This turned out GREAT!!!
I've heard you can soak handles that are old in cans of coke, seen that it works best for rust.
The gray part is beautiful.
Salt and vinegar ( + flour to make a paste) works to clean brass as well. I refinished a mid century dresser with brass feet and it was a pain to get the tarnish and dirt off. Some I was able to clean with Brasso, some cleaned up better with the salt vinegar mixture. I just soaked them in a bowl with the S/V mix. Your dresser turned out nice! Sometimes when its too beat up, bondo and paint is the way to go...Adding color on an old piece gives it a new life!
Thanks for the salt/vinegar tip! I'll have to try that next time. The Brasso seemed to take forever this time.
VERY VERY VERY VERY nice and beautifull. I really love it. FANTASTIC
nice. I've seen some dressers that have damaged tops like that around here and always wondered if they could be taken off and replaced with real wood. I really like this finished piece.
Great job done! It came out extremely beautiful.
thank you!
You did an amazing job! Very talented!
Thank you!
Nice job but I'm just wondering have you ever wood plane and see how long it takes for you to finish instead of sanding I believe it would cut down on the time because you wouldn't have to switch grits and so on also you said this project was the heaviest you had how do you move you're projects since ur the only one moving them
I don't have a planer, but it's one of those tools I've been considering. Most dressers I can wrangle around with the right grip after taking the drawers out. On this one, it was still too heavy even without the drawers, so I had to use some rollers I built to move it around and slide it out the door to work on it. Then, when it was time to bring it in, I had my wife help me carry it back in. We're not looking forward to carrying it upstairs though!
That is one of the best pieces you've done. I guess it's the style made it pop so much, anyway, well done!
thanks! We really like it too.
Wow I have just found you and had to subsribe. I have an old veneer dresser with only draws and the base ok but on the sliding door front the veneer fallen off. So I am thinking to paint only the draws and the top leave the wood as is. Not sure what kind of wood is so I guess I have to try and error see what is sticking to it but for design you gave me some pretty good ideas. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to learning from you. My only drawback is here in Australia the paints are different so I have to find and match somehow the brands.
I always use ketchup for the brass and cleans up very quickly you can even put in some bakingsoda
You're an idiot.
Bar Keeper's Friend works very well for brass cleaning as well.
AweSOME .....Simply AweSOME ....!!! My Next Hobby Flippin Furniture Lol..."
Wow. Beautiful. I wish I can do that.
Man I just saw this same dresser for $749 on Etsy. Really like what you did but it would’ve been worth it to restore it to original
$749. Wow. I hadn't heard of Hooker furniture before this one, but I'll have to keep an eye out for more.
MrDiyDork that being said, you still have a nice well constructed piece far superior to any ikea or Walmart POS.
No you didn.t I could referbish by stripping it and refininghing .
Yeah i was like wait what the bottom dropped on mid century furniture. I think your spot on in terms of asking price for such a piece, but again as he said full restoration is not his thing and people in his area spend that much on quality.
Beautiful piece but I would prefer it in a different color or original.
You always do a great job on all your pieces 👏
hey thanks!
Gorgeous
Looks great.
Love this! Very Nice work!
Just found your channel looks awesome!
Great job, I love it!
You're back ! :D
Yep, this one took longer than normal, and I've been flipping some other things besides just furniture lately.
Superb!
thanks!
Real nice job !
thanks!
I would have painted the front the same color, only because that's what I like. The inside wood is beautiful you did a great job. Fantastic! Did you ever try using a crock pot to clean the hardware? Try vinegar a little water on the low temperature that stuff come right off. Thank you love what your doing.
I've used a crock pot to strip paint off hardware, but haven't tried it to clean brass hardware. Thanks for the tip!
great job!
Thank you for the wonderful, informative video. I love your work, the only thing I would change is- a personal preference, the wood to gray also. But a fantastic job!
thanks!
Da Dorker is my favorite RUclipsr!
haha thanks
He really has some creative/unique ideas and designs. I like this channel too. He thinks outside the box!
Nice job
thanks!
Man! That looks FANTASTIC! We come across lots of Hookers in our area. ;)
haha thanks
Very cool
Thanks! I ended up spending a lot more time on this one than expected, but my wife loves it, so we're going to keep it and maybe sell it later down the line.
Wow you could sell that for 500 bucks in any big city! ❤ it!
It is indeed Hooker furniture. That was made in Martinsville Virginia about 30 miles down the road from where I live.
I hadn't heard of them before finding this piece. Sounds like I need to keep an eye out for more of them.
MrDiyDork yes, they made fantastic furniture. If I find any I'll let you know. What state are you in?
Nice job.
thanks!
That would cost around 400 dollars in California where I live 😢😢 and 150 not finished
Hooker furniture used to be made in my hometown--Martinsville VA...
Man, once you got it all stripped down. I loved the bare wood. You scored on this piece. I wood like to know where you get the Aircraft stripper and where you get bondo , that is if you aren’t letting go of trade secrets
Thank you! (The comments didn’t let me finish)
I like this
That is Beautiful. TS
glad you like it!
Missed your videos. How is the house coming? Any interesting renovations? Regards, Bill
We haven't done anything to the house since the bathroom renovation, but may have a couple of projects once winter passes.
Hooker makes FABULOUS furniture.....
😫😫😫 how can anyone put that dreadful chalk paint on a gorgeous piece of midcentury furniture?
I know!
Not my style but a very nice job.
Hooker is a very expensive well made furniture company, you scored!
Thanks! I had never heard of them before finding this piece, but I'll definitely keep my eye out. I might just straight up flip the next one I find if it's cheap and just needs cleaned up a bit.
Many vintage or antique company names are forgotten. I've got an antique dresser from the late 1800's that even the maker no longer has records on it. Check out the Etsy link on your piece here: www.etsy.com/listing/460112250/mid-century-hooker-mainline?show_sold_out_detail=1
Use. Monster energy drink to clean brass
Nice job!! NOT my colors, scheme, but LOVE the facing! Never would have thought of that. Diamond shape = Classy! You should have made a Box Footer and added xtra drawers. MORE STORAGE. OUT OF SEASON CLOTHES? SHOES? ANYTHING! THAT'S WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE. I LIKE TO FIND STORAGE SPACE WHERE THERE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ANY. AND THAT, IS MY STYLE. TRY IT ON YOUR NEXT PROJECT. IT'S FUN AND UNSUSPECTING! ☺
Are you from Missouri and if so what part
The top finish doesn't look smooth. Invest on a electric hvlp sprayer.
👍👏👏👏
Was better before
YESSSSSSS
Omg less talking next time, but great video!!! Thanks
It was ugly when you bought it but it looks like trash now.
