- Of all the attorneys who are representing former President Donald Trump and more than a dozen co-defendants in the criminal case against him in Georgia for alleged election interference, Atlanta defense lawyer Ashleigh Merchant has become perhaps the most prominent.
Merchant’s national profile skyrocketed in January when she revealed that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis had had a personal romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she hired to pursue the case.
Earlier this month, Judge Scott McAfee ruled that Willis can remain on the case - if Wade were no longer part of it. Wade resigned that same day.
In an interview with Scripps News, Merchant told legal correspondent Ava-joye Burnett she believes she can still win an appeal to disqualify Willis.

She had no legal authority to hire Mr. Wade. She was supposed to petition Fulton County commissioners to approve the hiring of Mr. Wade. Mr. Wade had never prosecuted a RICO and had never argued any case before a court of law. He was a family practice lawyer and insurance claims. He was wholly unqualified and she knew it but went ahead and signed a contract with him for $650k. He regularly billed or invoiced Fulton County for "services rendered" at times claiming 120 hours in one week. That's at $250 per hour by the way. He couldn't justify those hours being billed and kept no financial records. That's fraud.
You just made my case for me because if everything you say is true, but it's not, then instead of bringing those claims to Macafee, they should've been brought up to Fulton county an the ethics committee like the judge said that they need to take those claims down the street! This was only to embarrass an discredit her an her team. It's all for Trump an how hard is to to what Wade was doing as an attorney! All he did was research, track down witnesses and anyone involved in the case an questioned them! If a lawyer can't do that then he's in the wrong business plus the judge said that's a weak argument that he's not experienced enough to work on the case so next!

Ashley Merchant has been on quite a few TV programs from the Georgia senate panel to CNN to this program and many others. Merchant is definitely trying to make a name for hersel, with 15 minutes of fame. I hope the appeal is denied to get Fani Willis off of the case so that this case can move forward and hold the defendants accountable especially Trump.
