Always enjoy your videos, I learn so much. I was taught to put the plane on its side never on the sole. I suppose your shavings do the same to protect the blade.
I just found your channel & subscribed. I will be watching your sharpening videos. Having inherited my father’s hand tools including hand planes, I want to learn to sharpen and maintain them. He was a skilled craftsman, trained as a fine cabinet maker in England after WWII, but was an impatient teacher (to his kids) so I have to refresh what I did observe and get better at sharpening. Regretfully, he couldn’t make a living from woodworking, but never gave it up and I cherish several pieces of his furniture. Your work is beautiful. I gasped at seeing the lovely chisel box. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thank you for subscribing. It helps massively. You're so lucky to have pieces and tools from your father. (a tiny bit of envy there) There is a playlist. I'll put it here in a minute. Here it is Sharpening: ruclips.net/p/PLomQ4jxG80do0RCGHBVOGxmI7A9k226tx There are so many ways to Sharpen and a lot of them can be right. (and I must say, some on here are not very good) But right for you? I would look through what you have and see what he used. That would be a great place to start. And to use his tools would be truly wonderful. He would be a very happy man. Watch any if my videos and if there's anything you would like to know, then please ask. I don't think (or know of ) any comments on here that I've not replied too. Thanks again Jamie
I know I need to make another video on the EC Emmerich Primus Reform plane. Might get something done in the next few weeks 👍 Its been on the list for a while now. So.. I need too.
Thank you. Yes it covers the Record 145 holdfast collar. I'm not keen on holes in bench tops, but those collars are huge too. Not keen on metal in the tops too.
Next time you're in you can show me how you'd sharpen it 😁😉 You are right. I'm really less bothered about turning tools because the rotation helps. Very dull.. I know 🙈
And good to see you watching these videos. Mark's still not found a minute to watch any of them. 😕 [edit; But I should be careful what I type on here.. He might just watch one on my videos]
@@twcmaker can't believe Ive just been rubbished in the comments to your video, I did watch that one and enjoyed it but definitely not watching any more now!
Brilliant thanks Jamie
Thank you Darren.

Thank you. I appreciate that. Yes we have all had different instructions for plane placement. The shavings lift the front 'enough'.

A quick way to make dovetail clamping pads is to mark the tail location on the pad and drill 2-3 mm deep with an appropriately size forstner bit.
I like that. Thank you
Hey, can you give us your final thoughts on the ECE planes? I am particularly interested in your assessment of their plane blade steel.
I know I need to make another video on the EC Emmerich Primus Reform plane. Might get something done in the next few weeks 👍

Thanks for another great video, Jamie. The wooden plug in the benchtop when you was planing, is it covering the holdfast hole?
Thank you. Yes it covers the Record 145 holdfast collar. I'm not keen on holes in bench tops, but those collars are huge too. Not keen on metal in the tops too.
@jamie lovely to see a bit of turning there! Mind you, that old skew could do with a sharpen too! Where’s the shiny blade?!? 😊

Well, I have to make sure I try to leap to the top of the teachers pet list!
You're doing well. Mark's letting the side down a bit.

No stropping?
You could. You could also use the plane and strop instead of sharpening. Only once. Then back to the 25° - 30°
Ahh another thing Gary. I know you've got plenty of stones. But say someones finest stone is 2000 grit. They could strop to improve the edge.
