W. Watson Camera Repairs - NEW PROJECT REVEAL - Ep. 10
Working on the period Watson camera this week. It takes #Woodworking to a whole new level.
Then the ECE Emmerich Primus plane reveal.
Which is working out and will be amazing when it's done. Enjoy the journey.
For this video editing I used the RUclips Create app. And mainly to be able to put music with the video to help get a more polished edit.
It was great to use and I made adding the music easier by only using one artist.

Just wish we had a chimney so we could have a real log fire.
There are ways Gill. Straight up from the log burner and through the outside wall just before the ceiling. (apparently you get almost an extra kW from 1 metre of exposed chimney. Then a stainless steel chimney outside. Simple really.
@@twcmaker difficult to explain but we did have a log burner company in, its a bit more complicated for us as we have what looks like a fireplace and chimney but is actually a solid brick wall above supporting our bungalow frame. We all agreed it would look very odd to have a log burner sticking out in the room somewhere else.
@gillhb-LIFE Ahh yes. You have mentioned it on the podcast.
Thank you for this video and all of the others! We are way off-grid in remote Alaska (can only get here by plane or boat) and everything we do is purposeful. I am always looking for efficient ways to use our waste. I have been saving my grounds for the last few weeks while I searched for a good method of creating burnable logs. Your information is wonderful.
So glad it helps others. Thank you for commenting and your support. New video covering briquettes and burning them, out in a couple of days. Jamie

When can I get IV COFFEE thru amazon ?
I have no idea.
how does it act in the stove when u burn it? what i mean now, it you burn properly dried wood, (and have proper flow and what not) theres some ash and hardly anything goes up the chimney, so it stays clean. When you burn a lot of paper there's a lot of mess from it. So what about coffee bricks?

I'm a stone sculptor and I paint (as well as many other hobbies and projects). The coffee bricks brought me here, but now I'm curious if there are any small wood projects that someone like me, who has no wood working tools, can attempt to try without breaking the bank in tools. In my years of being an artist I've learned doing what I love to do feeds my need to continue to create, learn, and explore. Many blessing to you for being a teacher and for your videos!
Thank you for making a difference as well as teaching us how to save trees!

The catches on the chisel box look a nice quality. What brand are they? I love a bit of banter in the workplace, my foreign colleagues have no sense of humour though 😥 Funny at the end with your daughter and thumbnail.
Thank you for watching all the way to the end. 👏👏👏 *round of applause for getting that far 😂 Those catches are pretty good. Not the most expensive but worth fitting. Whereas some cheaper ones are not worth it really.
Great video! Fantastic beard! Happy to be a new subscriber.
Much appreciated. Ahh.. the beards had a trim now. But getting longer every day. Thank you Jamie
I was watching your coffee briquette video and thought I would share a tip when using a drill and paddle to mix stuff. If you thread a metal or plastic tube over the shaft of your paddle, you can hold the tube with one hand and the drill with the other and spin the paddle two handed. This gives you more control and takes a lot of lateral pressure off the drill chuck. Also makes it much easier. I use this method for mixing mortar. Much faster.
I like that 👍 I'll see if I can find a piece of tube. Cheers Jamie
I am always impressed with your work. It is perfection incarnate
Thank you William. I really appreciate the support. Jamie
Unless you are growing your coffee or getting it for free someplace, it's not free.
You've skipped through the point where I said.. "I get the used Coffee grounds from the Café next door" And they drop it outside my workshop door too.
I'm in the US and most Starbucks and other coffee shops have a bin in the front of the store with "Free Coffee Grounds for your garden" and you can just grab them by the pack.
@markpukey8 That's really good to hear. Thank you for sharing. Jamie

That looks great in the sunlight. Has a lovely tone. Do you reckon the act of repeatedly moving a scorps blade back along a wooden surface between cuts has a stropping effect? 🤔

Sadly many don't know or care but all that waist is useful to small and large growing farms . Both the coffee grounds and the ash from the briquettes Will help nutrients into the ground that gets depleted from continuous growing . The wood shavings is a good idea to use as burn bricks .
Would the dust from overly long time stored wood also work? That old stuff is great for summer campfires as it doesn´t give up much heat at all? How about stuff from a shredder (=bigger blocks?)... I bet you could also fumble in old bread and whatnot? Perhaps some old newspaper too. Add hot water, that would help too, no?
I think it would work. Especially if you left it wet for a few weeks. Its in the composting that it burns longer. Try it. 👍
I wanted to watch a few of the brick making videos. But something is wrong with the playlist. after 4-5 seconds into the video, the thing just skips to the next video. its unwatchable. I really wanted to see some of your tricks... but apparently RUclips does not support you the same way it does to other customers. Shame on you RUclips.
@@sandorkurta9829 I've not heard of this before. If you go to my Playlists you should find Briquettes making and burning 🔥 🔥 🔥 Choose from there. If it still doesn't work. Can you let me know please. Thank you Jamie
Careful with the mold
If you throw in a little flour, it’ll act like peas and hold it together at the same time the flour will burn
But flower isn't waste and I don't think it needs anything else added. Jamie

@ I have mate, well chuffed with it. I noticed your channel subs has gone nuts!
It looks really cool. Yes the subs thing is going crazy still. One day I'll work out what happened. Still a mystery.

Glad you’re improving mate
Put on a respirator. You are breathing in spores and dust doing that.
Normally I do. This was a very quick video.
@twcmaker i just see the mold on the coffee grinds, and I was concerned about your lungs. I have done a lot of demolition and cutting stone in my youth, and my lungs are paying for it now. I wear a respirator whenever dust, silica molds are a factor.
@jaymanjay1030 I totally get that. Thank you. Silica is a killer. The man made stuff is a lot more harsh than the natural dust from Wood etc. But still, masks are important.
I was watching a video by a gardener in the UK on growing potatoes and your video was in my feed. Great video, sending thanks all the way from Seattle Washington!
Thank you for watching. Have you subscribed too? It really helps me grow the channel and share the builds, the tools and the fun & games with students in my workshop. Thank you again Jamie
I’m not quite sure of the point here. If it’s saving the environment then doesn’t burning them just release the carbon back into the environment anyway? Sawdust and coffee grounds can be composted to make great dirt. It doesn’t have to go into landfill? Just asking 🤠. Maybe you are cutting heating costs?
@@DavoShed Hi. The point is I'm using my waste (and Cafe used Coffee grounds) to heat my home. I'm developing this to make my home (eventually) off grid using waste to heat and other methods for power. But that's for the future. This, for now, is heating part of a home.
@ That’s great thanks for answering. I have a wood heater at home so I understand 99% of the smell goes up the chimney but can you smell the coffee grounds? I live in the country Australia and I’m mostly off grid. I have solar power, rain tanks, a septic tank, solar water heater, and now and then a tree falls down so we cut it up. (New ones grow on their own). Our power is still grid connected and we feed back way more than the tiny bit we use after two consecutive rainy days. I wish I could expand the veggie garden and grow all our own vegetables but that’s harder than it sounds. Good luck with all your projects.
Thank you Davo. Yours sounds amazing. Have you got a RUclips channel? You should. It does take a lot of time (like a second, very busy job) but if you stick at it, it helps share with others, learn and occasionally pays a bill or two. Have you subscribed? I'd appreciate it if you could. Jamie
Also something to consider that if this just goes to landfill it will decompose and release greenhouse gasses anyway. Might as well use it. In landfill there's a higher chance of it releasing methane, which is a way more potent greenhouse gas compared to Co2.
@@MathsGameArt just burn it hot... you wouldn´t believe what crap I burned through a little kitchen stove until the plate was red hot... and it´s not like authorities don´t check your chimney values around here... so this dude in black dress comes along, does the measurements and says: "I cannot believe it!" and I was all like "uh oh that´s gonna be expensive"... but nope "I´ve never seen such good values on an old chimney like that" - as it´s a very old house, built 2-3 hundres years ago, I guess that chimney is old too... seems I blew it clean
I first saw large amounts of sawdust at 17. I had family running a couple different bandsaw blade style sawmills. It was crazy just how fast it piled up! And it was just waste. No one wanted it and you couldn’t even give it away! Even the waste slabs people would dig for a hour just to get a truck load they thought where worthy of there fireplaces. We had to start charging them because of the giant messes they made that had to be cleaned up after. You would think the saw dust could be good at absorbing water to keep the ground solid instead of the giant pit of mud that it was. If I was a smart kid, I would have taken every spec of that sawdust and the waste of sawdust from mills in the few miles of each other and found a way to either make a press then and sell or at least store it in an area for sell to another company in bulk. The circular saw blade style mills in the area sold it by the tractor trailer truckload. I knew a log yard that collected all the sawdust from a chainsaw cutting area they setup to cut logs to the desired length, the Ned’s waxed over and placed in train shipping containers. That was the first time I saw that and the extra wax dripping worked great at binding the sawdust together. Like making fire starters with dryer lint and candle wax as boy scouts. Heck, I bet I could have used the empty 55gal drums we got fuel in to store it all in and let it dry out some before using it. Everyone wanted the big chips not the fine dust it seemed though.
My question is…. How does this affect the chimney?
That was the first question what came into my mind as well, so i did a little bit of research and here are my results: Mix with Hardwood: Mixing coffee briquettes with hardwood can improve burn quality and reduce the likelihood of incomplete combustion. Burn at High Temperatures: Keep the fire hot to help ensure clean combustion and minimize residue. Using coffee briquettes can be safe and even beneficial with proper precautions. It’s especially important to monitor your chimney's condition if you plan on using them as a primary fuel source. Coffee briquettes are a more sustainable option, often made from recycled coffee grounds, which is an eco-friendly advantage. Coffee is acidic, and if there’s any residue from burning coffee briquettes, this acidity could, in the long term, potentially contribute to corrosion of metal components in the chimney, like the damper or chimney cap. The risk is relatively low but could be a factor if coffee briquettes are the primary fuel used over extended periods. Coffee briquettes could indeed be a good alternative alongside wood or coal.
I've just swept the chimney. I'll sweep it again in the new year and see the results. I do mix the briquettes in with Waste woof from my workshop. So it's not all briquette soot.
Very good alongside Wood.
@@karlme477 I don´t think it´s overly acidic after being brewed and all the steps that follow. It´s alkalic after burning. One could throw in some vinegar before pressing the blocks to counter that. In theory. :p
After college, while career shopping, I worked as a substitute teacher. I made friends with the shop teacher and he let me take boxes of scrap home to the wood stove. It wasn’t enough to heat my cabin by itself, since it burned too fast, but it also burned so hot I could use greener wood from the surrounding forest. My job took me back to civilization, but I was planning to make bricks like these using litter from the forest floor mixed in with ‘cement’ from my composting toilet.
Ahh that's very cool. Well done
You could round off the corners of the scrap to make it burn slower, even sand it smooth, just a thought
👍😊❣️
👍😉👌
i tired this and it didn’t work, maybe the soot in mine was too burnt on?
Have the stove warmer. Do it while the glass is warm. You could use a Stanley scraper while it's cold. Get it cleaned off first, then use my method on the video to maintain it. Thanks for watching and your support. Have you subscribed? Jamie

So you can basicly burn compost ...
On a basic level. But maybe the best time to burn is after 6 weeks in a bucket. 6 months might not work.. Who knows. Well, hopefully I'll find out soon in this Winters burning trials. Subscribe 🔔 to find out. Jamie
Turf is semi-composted peat used as combustible since ages in Ireland
The Used Coffee Grounds ( UCG ) go mouldy because they are exposed to air and have a large surface area for decomposing fungi to colonise. The easiest way to stop this is to submerse the UCGs in water while you're waiting for time to process them. You only need enough to cover them and that water will easily be absorbed by the sawdust and shavings. I supply my local coffee shop with a clean white 20L 5gal bucket and lid with my mobile number on the top and when they have it full they just txt me and I swap it out for another one or not, depending on my demand at the time. They are very understanding and it saves them money in waste disposal fees. ALSO. Your videos are informative, and your explanations, comprehensive and easy to follow. BUT Please work on your camera technique. Lots of "how too" videos on RUclips AND it will help increase your patronage. Enjoy the journey Stephen from Kopu New Zealand
@greenwood4020 thank you. I appreciate the comment. This video was filmed in 10 minutes, edited in 10 no fuss, no time to get camera set up or anything like the time I normally invest in videos. It's now over 441k views and 7,200 subscribed in a few short months. There are no guarantees on RUclips and sometimes it pays to break the normal rules. I think.. Because it just doesn't make sense to me. Thank you again Jamie
Do you think using a wood moisture measuring instrument could be useful to determine various things like comparing drying time of different mixes, etc.?
I can tell if it's dry, and they do sit around for months to dry. Scales are easier to use though. Weight a few together every couple of days, until they weigh the same for 3 times. The moisture meter.. I use in the workshop a lot. Not on Briquettes though. I don't really need one at home, because the wood goes home and sits next to the fire for a few days before use. I'll bring it back. 👍 They're brilliant pieces of kit. Well worth the small investment. Jamie
It might be interesting to compare adding up the total burning time of several spheres which have a combined weight equal to one rectangular briquette to the burning time of the singular briquette.
I can do that. I'll screenshot this and do it over the Autumn/Winter.. Very soon. Thank you
less surface area on the spheres, so if they hold together till burned out, it should take longer just due to this
interesting observation! it probably has to do with the price and quality of the chisel, hard to say what you got and paid for but there is the high end chisels that i'm sure have the characteristics of old chisels or pretty closed, I'm sure the quality and the brand has to do a lot of how the chisel is made
