  • Under the terms of the 2013 Constitution, Zimbabweans by birth are allowed to hold dual nationality. I had the chance to travel from the UK to Zimbabwe using two passports. In this video, I explain how I was able to travel to Zimbabwe with two passports (dual citizenship).
    Disclaimer: Correction and additional information for the video: The UK does not stamp your passport when exiting(slip of the tongue). You also need to show or present BOTH Passports at immigration in Zimbabwe to prove residency. Please feel free to share your experiences travelling to Zimbabwe with dual citizenship. How did it go at Robert Gabriel Mugabe airport?

    Thanks for the info. I wish you could share your experience with Zim officials when coming back to UK though. Did you have to show the Zimbabwe officials the UK passport so you can be allowed to board for UK-bound?

      Yes, I presented my UK passport at BOTH entries ( UK and Zim, to and fro) as proof of residence...see pinned comment

    You do not get stamped on leaving UK - the UK has no exit checks. You can present either a UK or Zim one to the airline - either will get you into Zimbabwe without a pre-arranged visa. You next need to show a passport in Zimbabwe immigration. Obviously show the Zim passport, as this does not need a visa, or have restrictions on how long you stay.
    When you leave Zimbabwe the airline will check at check-in that you have authorization to travel to the UK. The airline is liable to be fined (and pay for your deportation) if they don't. You must use your UK passport for this, as a Zim passport needs a valid visa to enter the UK, and the airline would not accept it.
    When you carry on through the airport and hit Zimbabwe emigration, show your Zimbabwe passport (as this is the one you used to enter Zim, and a UK one without an entry stamp would rightly raise suspicions). On arrival in the UK, use your UK one.
    I have heard from friends that the Zimbabwean emigration may notice you do not have a valid UK visa in your Zimbabwe passport, and stop you. To get around this, you could ensure your flight to the UK transits in a country that does not need a visa for Zimbabwe citizens (like SA or Kenya), so a lack of visa does not raise suspicions. Although legal, dual citizenship can certainly cause difficulties with officials. A friend applied for a EU visa on their Zim passport (despite having a SA passport as well, so visa-free), to avoid having to explain all this to Zim emmigration.
    A few technical details that can get you in trouble: if you have a UK residency card/visa/ILR in your Zimbabwe passport, these are cancelled when you apply and get British citizenship. So do not be tempted to just use your Zimbabwe passport with UK residency doc to travel to Zim and then to return to the UK. You will get refused UK entry (and probably boarding on the airline), unless you have your UK passport on you as well.

    How about your airline ticket?
    Which passport details did you provide?

    • @Resithrive
      @Resithrive  2 месяца назад +1

      When booking a ticket they don't ask for your passport number. You just provide your name as it appears in the passport, so best to use the name in your passport. If you have dual citizenship, the names in your passports will be matching anyway.

    When you are exiting zim ,how can you use the zim passport without a residency permit, eg, brp ,because i guess they would want to see your visa or permit. Can you clarify that part, please. Thank you.

    • @Resithrive
      @Resithrive  6 месяцев назад +1

      If you read the description, I clarify that. You will have to show your British Passport when entering and leaving Zimbabwe. The British Passport is your proof because you're British. You don't need a BRP if you are a citizen of Britain. This video is for Dual Citizenship ONLY- people who are both Zimbabweans and British meaning you have the same rights in both countries. The BRP is for other resident permits e.g. Indefinite Leave to Remain. I hope that makes sense.

    By dual citizenship, do you mean simply having Zimbabwe/Foreign passports or having gone through a formal application process for dual citizenship and have a Zim immigration stamp in your foreign passport to identify you as a dual citizen?

    • @Resithrive
      @Resithrive  3 месяца назад +2

      I mean going through the process of applying to become British through naturalisation. You will automatically become a dual citizen unless you renounce your Zimbabwean citizenship. There is no stamp put inside your Zim passport. All you get is the British citizen certificate and British passport when you apply for it. Your British passport is your proof of residence because they would have checked everything for you to get that passport, so there is no need for a stamp. So, when travelling, carry both passports. When going to Zimbabwe, it's your choice which passport you use. Watch the video I posted yesterday about Dual Citizenship. Also, read comments. They're quite helpful. I hope that's clear.

    • @cshanga9406
      @cshanga9406 3 месяца назад

      That clearly answers my question, thank you very much.
      I went to extend my stay in Zim after the initial 30 days and was informed by the immigration official that I could save myself the hustle of renewal by applying for dual citizenship. There was a long list of requirements and an application fee. I was informed that if my application was successful, a stamp would be placed in my foreign passport and it will allow me unlimited entry into Zim just as I would with a Zim passport. Thanks to you, now I know that using both passports incurs no expense and residency in either country does not expire.

    • @Resithrive
      @Resithrive  5 месяцев назад +1

      I used the British passport to book and check in. It doesn’t matter which one you use as long as you carry both passports and can prove your UK status and Dual Citizenship on both sides of immigration. That was my experience. Your personal details, name, dob should of course match otherwise it will complicate things. Both passports should also be valid for 6 months. If one is expired, then stick with the one that isn't. I hope that helps. It is a bit confusing, I know.

      @@judithbaah3483 You automatically get dual citizenship when you apply to become a British citizen if you're from Zimbabwe because Zimbabwe allows dual citizenship - the dual part is automatic. I had ILR when I applied, and my Zimbabwean was still valid when I got the British Passport.

      @@Resithrive I'm living in the UK but I'm Zimbabwean. I only have my UK passport now but I'd like to get my Zimbabwean one. I'm assuming you can apply through the embassy? I only just learnt that we can have dual nationality and I remember how difficult it was to get documents sorted for passports there. Just wondering how difficult it is to apply from the UK 🙈

    • @Resithrive
      @Resithrive  3 месяца назад

      @@storm_delany894 Option One: You can go to the embassy and fill out all the forms. It only takes one appointment (an hour or so). Then, they will give you a pack to take to Zimbabwe to submit yourself. Option Two: The embassy can post for you. You can pay for fast-track or standard. Of course, things keep changing, and rules may have changed, but this was the case when I applied. I went to Zimbabwe and submitted the papers myself. Or someone can take the pack and a relative you nominate can submit on your behalf. Easy peasy 😄
