I think you got everything spot on in this video. Uk is so expensive and public transport outside big cities is poor so you have to factor in car ownership as well as rent bills and food. From outside UK wages look attractive but after bills you just exist.
Don't forget that a lot of houses are bought by speculators and that decreases housing stock, a lot of people buy second or third homes, again reducing housing stock for purchase, and the UK government had a policy of not building houses to increase house prices for their voters and their rich donors. All this means that for first generation migrants buying a house is really hard.
