2:27 International convention is that if you are a citizen of more than one country and you are in one of the countries in which you have citizenship, then you are not entitled to consular help from any other country of which you may be a citizen.
The part where you talked about the names being different was good info. I was, for lack of a better term, lucky when I got my Mexican citizenship through heritage, my mothers family name didn’t get added. My Mexican and US passport have identical names on them making it easier for everything. 🤔 Except for when I get stopped at state check point in Mexico and they are throughly confused as to why I don’t have 2 family names. It less confusing in recent years since there more and more duel citizens especially in tourist areas. 😊. I loved your video and will contact you if I ever decide to try to get an Irish passport with my Irish citizenship.
Interesting subject, yet I am puzzled with your explanations. I have both the Swiss and the Vietnamese passports. I only travel to Vietnam for tourism, not for business. Elaborating further on your remark that airlines are just concerned with your ability to be admitted in the country of destination, I was thinking that on the way to Vietnam, I should use the Vietnamese passport, since I would not need a visa, and on the way back to Switzerland, I would use the Swiss one, because I would not need a Schengen visa. At the border control in Vietnam, I would always show my Vietnamese passport. At the border control in Switzerland, I would always show my Swiss passport. Anything flawed in my reasoning ?
It’s a little confusing regarding the usage of passports being a dual citizen. Why would I not have the protection of the US consulate if I choose to use my VN passport when I enter VN instead of using the US passport? If there was an issue while I’m in country, I would think that I would have that protection/service,....at least from the US consulate.
Thank you for the great topic today, My next question related to above is what happen if I I am leaving for the USA after visiting Vietnam and used Vietnam passport to enter. Now I am leaving Vietnam for the USA and use the USA passport to exit Vietnam will the immigration officer in Vietnam ask me how do I enter Vietnam as the US passport does not have a record of me entering Vietnam? Thank you for your reply
Hi, this is a very interesting topic. Furthermore can you please explain how would the travel insurance factor into the decision of choosing which passport to use for entry?
Halo, if I have 2 passports : US and Philippines (PHP). Then I travel to Vietnam, I could enter Vietnam using my PHP free visa since they are both Asean countries correct? Then after stay 1 week in Vietnam, I want to go back to US, so i can book my online airline ticket with US passport right? Then I arrive at Vietnam airport then I go to airline ticket counter and show my US passport to get boarding pass. Then I head to Vietnam immigration at airport to check out from country with my boarding pass and PHP passport (so check in with PHP and check out with PHP), correct?
Hi, so I am in vietnam right now. I have both U.S and VT passport. I came into Vietnam with the VT passport. I plan to travel to South Korea from Vietnam. For South Korea, I have the electronic visa approval for my U.S passport. But do not have a visa on my VT passport for South Korea. When exiting Vietnam, should I use my VT passport and show them the electronic approval of show both VT and U.S passport when leaving Vietnam. When I arrive to South Korea, I should use U.S passport to leave the airport? When I head back to Vietnam from South Korea, I should use VT passport?
Show them both when leaving Vietnam, but leave Vietnam with your Vietnam passport, as your entered with it and use the US passport when entering South Korea.
Question: I was born and raised in Colombia but later in life I became a naturalized US citizen . Therefore I have dual citizen. I live in the US and if I decide to travel to Colombia using my US passport but once in Colombia I want to take a one week trip to Peru, obviously departing from Colombia and returning to Colombia. Do I have to use my U.S. or Colombian passport ??? I’d prefer to use my Colombian passport since I plan on purchasing some merchandise in Peru . If I use my U.S. passport taxes are much higher and stuff. So if I use my Colombian passport do I lose my U.S. citizenship?? I’ve heard many stories .
Use the most convenient one only thing is you need enter US using the American one to be let in and the Colombian one to enter Colombia or migración Colombia get pretty annoyed at you. I have 3 and pick and choose depending on convenience :)
I know this video was in 2021, but I think I cane get some helps here. Thanks.
If i have both US passport and vn passport, I decide to enter vn using US passport with 5 year visa exemption. Could I stay long term in vn with my vn visa or I have to do visa run every 6 months?
Hi my name is harissa I want to know I have to do passports my passport is from Canada and the second passport is from Malaysia I wanted to go back to my country which passport do I use first to go out from Canada can I use can Canadian passport and arrival I use Malaysian passport or I can use Malaysian password from Canada to my country can you please guide me
Been wondering this myself. Entered Vietnam on South African passport, which has a valid Vietnam visa. Will be leaving to go to the UK, which is my other passport.. So book ticket with passport with Vietnam visa, show this passport AND other at airline check in? Then South African visa at immigration? UK passport used at entry to UK? Confusing.. Is it OK to do this?
Thanks for your comment. The airline will ask you for both at check-in. It is best to let them know right away that you have two passports and make sure you indicate which passport is used to leave the country and enter the other one.
Ok I have two different first name on my passport. How you can help me ? Or can I entered to Vietnam with US passport and when I travel around Vietnam using Vietnam passport? Thanks
Yes, you could do that. Or just book with your US passport and enter Vietnam with the Vietnam passport. If the immigration officer asks you the ticket, then show both passports to prove it is you.
Hello, great video! I have a question. I’m a dual citizen (both USA and Vietnam passports). I am planning on going to Vietnam this year. Should I apply for a Vietnamese visa for my US passport or just use my Vietnam Passport when entering Vietnam? I’ve heard stories about not being protected by the US Embassy if something happens to me after entering Vietnam with Vietnamese Passport. Am I protected by the US Embassy when entering Vietnam with Vietnamese passport? I want to make sure I am safe and could travel back to the US without any issues. Thank you!
There are two different matters in your comment that we already addressed in the video. First, if you enter on a Vietnam passport, you will be considered and subject to local laws without help of a foreign representation. Second, the choice of a passport also depends on the length of stay. If you are planning to live in Vietnam long term, then the Vietnam Passport is preferable. If you want US protection and go to Vietnam just a week and don't mind applying for a visa, then use the US passport.
@@duongglobalbusinessconsulting Your reply is confusing. I have both passports but the ticket is using the Vietnamese passport information. I just need to know if I need to present both passports when check-in. How would the US know that I am leaving the country if I only present the Vietnamese passport?.
No, you do not need to show both passports at the check-in if you are using your VN passport going to Vietnam unless they want to double check whether you entered the US on your VN passport and whether you overstayed. But, in principle, no. However, you will need to show your US passport at the US customs when you leave the US. The airline shares its passenger data system with the US. Hope it helps.
