- Gweedore fiddler Proinsias Ó Maonaigh (Francie Mooney) and his daughter Mairéad play a pair of jigs at the RTÉ Dublin studio in October 1983. Francie passed away in March 2006.
Wonderful sound, but also left me feeling sad, as my father was a fiddler, and I used to play the fiddle (less well) with him sometimes. He died when I was 13.
Right, that's what I needed to get the old fiddle out of the attic again!
This is from just a little less than ten years before I was born :) Very pretty; it's so sweet that she was playing with her father! And she looks so much younger than I'm used to seeing.
is that the Donegal version of Rakes of Kildare? I like it much better than the 'standard' version but I've been playing it like that for 40 yrs , probably too late to un-learn it...............
the tune is actually called Wellington's Advance
