  • More from the Anam an Amhráin dvd, the dreamlike visuals are accompanied by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh's great vocals.
Copyright belongs to Sónta and Cartoon Saloon, I make no claim of copyright ownership, blah blah. Again, to reiterate, I am only uploading these because the only other version available is of low quality, and these deserve to be seen at a proper resolution and without watermarks.
The dvd is well worth a purchase and I highly recommend you do so. It is multi-region and you can get it at www.cartoonsalo...

Wow, that's really interesting! Any more info? Was it the same melody? Is your mother Berber origin? Maybe that's the link that is talked about in the documentary about north Africa's links with Ireland west. Thanks for sharing this! :-)

Its Irish but this same tune is used for many many songs in many languages.
Often the same tune will be used for many songs with different lyrics.

Here is the English translation of this Irish-language song:
There's a fair tomorrow in the County Clare.
There's a fair tomorrow in the County Clare.
There's a fair tomorrow in the County Clare.
But what's the use I won't be there.
    Chorus:
Oh mother, won't you let me go to the fair?
Oh mother, won't you let me go to the fair?
Oh mother, won't you let me go to the fair?
My fondest child, Oh please don't ask.
You're not even ten or eleven years old.
You're not even ten or eleven years old.
You're not even ten or eleven years old.
When you're thirteen I'll let you go.
    (chorus)
I'm in love with the cobbler man.
I'm in love with the cobbler man.
I'm in love with the cobbler man.
    If I don't get him, I can't live on.
    (chorus)
It is absolutely beautiful. I always love listening to songs in Irish Gaelic.

@@CailinRuaAnChead isn't 'Dulaman' about harvesting seaweed, from the yellow cliffs (na binne bui)? The best in all of Ireland (se b'fhearr ar bhí in Éireann)? Excuse my horrible Irish! Lol! You maybe are thinking of 'Beidh Aonach Amarach' which Altan's recorded...isn't this video with Muireann singing a version of that song? It's about a fair in Co Clare, and the girl likes an older guy, but her mother won't let her go.

Náisiúnaí na hÉireann untrue. ireland isn’t defined by melanin content, and i’d much rather a black irish person be on this island than a bigot. i also think you forget, every person on this island is an “invader” or “foreigner”. all our ancestors came here during the ancient migrations.

You kinda have to speak Irish. The little girl keeps annoying her mother to allow her to go to a fair, because she's madly in love with the young shoemaker who works there there. The exasperated mother keeps telling her she's not old enough yet, she'll have to wait til she's 13, so the little girl runs away, and obviously gets lost. It's just a song about childhood/parenthood, really.
