Thank you for sharing, Mitzi. Especially your strong faith and prayers for others. So devastating to hear of the destruction caused and those affected. Glad you are safe ❤️
I'd never heard of Lawanna Blackwell until I read that series and loved ALL the books! Definitely praying for the people affected by Helene, and now by hurricane Milton. So very sad.
So sorry for all the devastation. I’m from the Gulf Coast originally (live in Illinois now) I don’t miss hurricanes 🌀 They can really be dangerous. My mom was trapped in a hospital for 3 days straight with Katrina. So I’m praying and donating where I can because it seems so overwhelming for people with these recent ones. The violent tendencies of them all seem outrageous. God bless.
Oh Mitzi, I don’t even know what to say, my deepest condolences for your family and loss. Prayers for everyone affected by this. Prayers for the future storm and our friends in Florida. Sending y’all love and hugs!
My little town in south GA was hit head on. My son and his family is still without power today...13 days without power has been challenging for them and their little homestead farm. They had a tree land on their old barn and on their house...but thankfully they didn't lose any of their chickens, pigs, cats or dogs. As my son said "Mom we didn't lose any animals or the kids so we are good. Everything else can be fixed or replaced". My son is a police officer...he has seen complete devastation. We were without power at my house for 6 days so I took my 96 year old mom to an airbnb in Thomasville GA which was completely untouched. We only lost screening from the back porch and a big limb from our crepe myrtle. We have a huge oak tree (Our neighbors) on our fence but our fence is holding it up so we probably wont even have to repair or repace the fence. We are truly blessed. I am so sorry to hear about your husband's aunt and all the other deaths in SC! We are praying for the Appalachian folks and everyone in NC
Oh, I'm so glad you and your family or ok, too! And I'm glad you were able to take care of your mom as well. We are so fortunate to have power since so many in our area are still without it. Praying with you for our Appalachian neighbors.
God Bless You Mitzi and your Family and everyone there. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers ❤ I am so sorry about your Husbands Aunt .That is so awful.Sending love and prayers.
Mitzi I’m so glad to hear you and your family are safe from the hurricane. I’m still praying for you stay safe, and for all those who are affected back in the damaged areas. Also those are some good books. I read A Fortnight in September before and liked it very much. I’m reading books now for the Victober readathon and thoroughly enjoying it.
Thankful for all the organisations providing practical help in the hurricane hit areas. On a lighter note it is interesting to see the US titles for some Agatha Christie novels. I love those covers!
I'm so sorry for your loss and all the pain and hardship that your community has been through. At the same time, happy and grateful that you and your family are ok. It brought tears to my eyes when you said how you thanked God for your morning coffee. I have learned too to be grateful for those small things that look so mundane, but that make our days better. Praying for you and sending all my love from Chile ✨❤ P.S: I recommended Mrs Pankhurst's Purple Feather, so glad you added it to your TBR, can't wait for your review 🐦
Thank you so much. My son just said yesterday how this had really made him think about how grateful he was for family and just the simple things in life.❤And yes, thank you for the recommendation of the book! I'm so excited for it!
Thanks for the update on your experience with the hurricane. We drove the Blue Ridgeridge parkway from Ashville to the Smoky Mountains last Sept. and to see the pictures from hurricane devastation is heartbreaking. Praying for everyone affected and the workera/voluneers working hard to help out.
I’m still praying for all the states affected by hurricane Helene. I’m a Floridian so I’ve been through many hurricanes in my lifetime. We’re expecting hurricane Milton to hit the Gulf coast of Florida. I live in the south east part of Florida in Fort Lauderdale so I won’t be as affected. However, I do have relatives in Tampa and it doesn’t look good for the surrounding area there. I thank you and your book tube viewers for continuing to pray for those affected by hurricanes this year. 🙏🏻
I’m so sorry for your loss. I just got back from my son’s house in Asheville. We were down clearing up limbs & branches where we could. He has trees down all over his property and on his roof. It took his deck off his house and other damage to a fence etc. There are trees down all over his neighborhood. And a house without a roof. They sit up high, so didn’t have the flooding. He got power back a couple of days ago but they don’t think water will be restored for a month or more. There are places where you can fill up buckets of non-potable water for flushing toilets. Other places like churches where you can shower. I heard a chemical plant along the river was destroyed and has leaked into the water. There’s so much devastation. We’re in TN. Our town is on the other side of the mountain, so was mostly spared other than some trees down and power outages. I didn’t see flooding here but there might have been in some areas. But so many of the little towns around us and in between us and Asheville suffered lots of damage. And there are bridges out all over, personal ones across creeks to houses and ones on different highways I40 and I81. The one between us and Asheville on I26 is supposed to be out until September next year. We’re in eastern TN. There is so much community support around here. There are so many places where people are volunteering and making meals to take or for people to pick up. There’s donations of all kinds of things that people need. Private helicopters and skid steers and mules going places where you can’t drive. I have never seen anything like it. I haven’t seen FEMA, though I have heard they’re around. It’s hard to imagine all the damage and towns washed away and the destroyed homes and businesses. They said the water from the rivers and rain, and dam bursting was more than Niagara Falls. I don’t know if that’s accurate or not, but the damage certainly is. I feel for all the people that are without so much right now. We’re trying to help wherever we can. It’s like you said, you just couldn’t imagine this kind of damage from a hurricane way up here in the mountains. As someone said, this is where people go to get away from the hurricanes.
Right! I tried explaining that to people that this area is NOT where we have hurricanes! I'm so glad to hear both you and your son are ok! We will be continuing to pray and help however we can as well. ❤
I'm so glad you're ok and so sorry to hear about those who were lost I'm the storm. 😢 I've been praying so hard here from Virginia and helping I'm any way I can. Praying for Florida now, too! I really want to read that Shakespeare book by Bill Bryson. My sister read it and really enjoyed it.
WNC here, thank you for for praying for all the mountain folks. I'm in the zone and had flooding and power outages to the east of us and the power outages and devastation to the west. We only lost internet for a few days and that was all, even the mailman came at the usual time. It was a really freaky storm. Now we're praying for Florida again. My mother-in-law (65) and her mother (97) are directly in the path. Evacuating, seems obvious but trying to do that with a fragile 97yo is not easy and while she gets the house prepped is deciding whether to stay or go. Lots of older folks are probably in the same situation.
Praying for your family members! I haven't thought about that with older folks, so I'll be praying for them specifically. And the mountain folks, too! I'm just heartbroken for them.
Thanks for this! It's really a balance here because I do have some comments sometimes asking me not to share my faith. However, it's who I am so I don't even realize it when I do share those things. I have to just realize my channel isn't for everyone, but still I want to encourage them all!
Oh my gosh… this is so devastating the news I’m hearing about all the tragedies that have struck in the southeast because of this hurricane. Mitzi I’m so glad you and your family is safe 🙏❤️
Thank you for giving us an update on the hurricane. We have been praying here (Boston area) in church for all of you affected by the hurricane, and will continue to do so. In terms of books, I read The Widow of Larkspur Hills ages ago, and followed up by reading the rest of the series. I enjoyed all of it.
I am thankful that you are okay. We all wondered how SC was doing. I am grateful that I got to see Asheville, NC for four days and nights last year in its heyday. I want that experience back again in the next few years hopefully as I love those mountains and that whole area too! I am so sad that they suffered as much as they did. In September I was lucky to read and were the best books I read was The Autumn Chills collection of Agatha Christie short stories and A Pocket Full of Rye.
Oh, I love both of those! I read Autumn Chills last year and it is perfect for fall reading! Yes, we love the mountains of NC as well. Such a beautiful place and this is just heartbreaking.
I think the difference in the Cherry Ames book and current times really shows because we have to keep in mind the book was published 81 years ago, and the medical field has changed immensely. Also, this first book was published during WWII, and there were such shortages of available and practicing doctors and nurses at the time. I'm sure that all played a huge part in how the C.A. books were written. I love, Love, LOVE the series. 🥰 And I really need to get to The Fortnight in September. Great video. ❤ P.S. I think you'd enjoy Donna Parker and Ginny Gordon. Both are great series. 😊 Also...(😂) I think you might be very interested in the L.M. Montgomery collections of short stories I found. They are at the very first part of my newest video. It's a book haul video from yesterday, Thursday.
Hi Mitzi! A new subscriber here. So sorry to hear about the difficult times you're going through ❤ We've of course heard about the hurricane here in Finland, too, but it certainly hits you differently when you hear the terrible impact it has on people. I just wanted to write and say thank you for your lovely videos, I've already gotten so many wonderful recommendations from you! Watching your videos has really been such a joy and comfort to me in the past couple of days. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on your Victober reads!
I am so sorry to hear what your family has been through. My condolences on the death of your husband’s aunt. The tragedies from Hurricane Helene are devastating. I have been praying for all those impacted. Take care, as best you can. 🙏
So sorry Mitzi, I have been thinking about you, glad you are safe and praying for all of you affected by this devastating storm. You had a great reading month and such great variety, more for me to add to my tbr😉
Hi, Mitzi! I’m a new-ish subscriber and I enjoy your channel very much. I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of your husband’s aunt. We here in Ohio are praying for all those affected by Helene, as well as those in the path of Milton ❤️🙏🏻
So glad that you are okay this storm was devastating to hear about I have been praying for strangers for many days but I know the Lord knows who and where they are and what they need🙏
First thing first, glad you and your family there are okay. I am amazed how many were and still are effected by Helena and many now in Florida effected again. ❤😢😊
Such devastation across the South from these hurricanes. Prayers to all who have been affected. And you are so correct about how much we take for granted and the simple pleasures to be found in daily life, like listening to the birds in your back yard. I wanted to tell you about a book you might be interested in. It was released earlier this year. It's called The Backyard Bird Chronicles, and the author is Amy Tan. It is non-fiction and has many gorgeous illustrations inside done by the author herself. You may recognize the name Amy Tan. She is the author of the best-selling novel from several years ago called The Joy Luck Club (which is awesome if you haven't read it). Like you, I don't buy new releases but maybe you can find her bird book at the library. Better yet, put it on your Christmas list lol
Mitzi, first and foremost, I am sending you love, hugs, and endless prayers. I'm so sorry to read of your family's lost loved one and your frightening experience. Prayers to everyone affected by the loss and devastation from the hurricane. 🙏 My grandma was a nursing student during the Cherry Ames era. She was called to work from the start, but she referred to it as "light duty" until her formal education and training was complete. I have a bookish package I'm just finishing wrapping for you friend, and I will get it in the post soon. Hopefully, it brings a little joy and bookish content to you! Thank you for the update on your reading and life experiences. Please stay safe. 💕
How devastating! I'm so glad you are okay. I will pray for you and your husband's loss. I'll also pray for those caught in the hurricanes path. I'm not a news watcher at all and didn't realize how bad it was until a family member from Florida texted and said they were okay. 😮💔
Hi Mitzi! I am so glad that you and your husband and sons are ok but am so sad to hear of the loss of your husband's aunt and of others in your neighborhood and region. I confess I had not realized just how bad the situation was! I immediately reached out to my friends and family in Georgia (Atlanta and Augusta) to make sure they were all ok. Thank you for sharing, and you are all in my thoughts💕
@@mitzireadsandwrites My family in Atlanta said it turned out of their path but also said that Augusta was slammed. I just heard back from my friend- she and her family still have no power but are ok!
I did read that same Dana Girls book as I had it. Like you I felt it wasn’t as good as the Nancys but I enjoyed the two sister dynamic and the boarding school setting.
I am a nursing professor. Students have 2 years of undergraduate prerequisites they must take before they can apply and transition to nursing school. Once in nursing school, they start clinicals with their first class. They have skill check offs that they must complete before they can attempt on patients. They are following a nurse and can do basic care like change bed pans, help patients eat, help them to the bathroom, and help with personal grooming.
Thank you so much for responding! It just seemed a little far-fetched that she would be caring for patients so soon. That makes me feel much better! I figured as much. 😂
Re the student nurse book: maybe also read The Year of The Intern by Robin Cook (his first). A real doctor in modern times thrown in with patients! (He talks about his own experiences a lot in interviews and in epilogues at the end of his books.) I’ve been in hospital here in the Uk….Ive had beginners taking my blood etc (also blood pressure, etc), so…. 🤷♀️
Back in the day, Nurses training was on the job training in the hospital. Now they didn’t start out doing much hands on. They also were more about cleaning things as they observed the hands on at first. My aunt was in nursing school at this time. I don’t know that there are any hospital programs left. Now it is college/university based. I thought about you and your family during the hurricane. I prayed that you were safe! Oh my! That must have been awful! Will continue to pray!
That makes sense. This is probably an exaggeration which is really no surprise lol. I mean, there's a scene where she convinces the doctor to administer a new drug her friend has just concocted. 😂
Yes. I read that first book. It’s a bit of a hoot. I used to be a nurse. Nursing has changed a lot over the years. It was fun to see it from a 1940’s perspective. Definitely some poetic license going on. 😊
They had Candy Stripers back in Cherry Ames days also. Things were different then. I bet they were similar to the book. I 'll investigate.😉 So sorry for your husbands Aunt. How horrible it all was and there is another one coming.
I had NO IDEA you lived in S. Carolina!! Never heard you say that before. I am SO SORRY about your husbands aunt. Sounds like just down the street from you(?) neighbors were killed!?!? I don't know if I misunderstood you, but how could you not know there was a hurricane outside your house? Not being mean, but I don't understand. I know it moved very quickly, but I'm in S.E. Mi. and knew (news). The Lord obviously protected your house and ALL in it. Thank YOU Jesus! Will DEFINITELY keep praying. I also had no idea you were a teacher! YAY! My daughter has those same degrees. She taught Elementary, then home-schooled. I can never find books you recommend from the 30's and such. I was VERY disappointed for A library to tell me this past Sat.; libraries don't usually keep books after mid to late 90's!!!!! At least in my county system. How can that be????? I wonder because of the title of your channel, do you also write? Thank you Mitzi and again you are all in my prayers. I have experienced hurricanes (not in Mi.) but NOTHING that destructive. Understand, I was NOT insulting nor demeaning you for not knowing the hurricane was upon you, never. 🤗🤗
MItzi. I am very sorry to hear about your husband's aunt. What a tragedy. My grandson lives in Tampa and now hurricane Melvin is coming towards him. I have been wondering how your baby is doing? Do you get a lot of babysitting time?
Thank you for sharing, Mitzi. Especially your strong faith and prayers for others. So devastating to hear of the destruction caused and those affected. Glad you are safe ❤️

Mitzi, I’m so glad you’re okay. Praying for all those still affected by the hurricane. 🙏
I'm so sorry for your loss and all the pain and hardship that your community has been through. At the same time, happy and grateful that you and your family are ok. I’m so so sorry for your loss 💔
Thank you for sharing, and you are all in my thoughts💕
I don't know about Atlanta, but Augusta was slammed and I think most are still without power there. Thanks so much, dear friend!
@@mitzireadsandwrites My family in Atlanta said it turned out of their path but also said that Augusta was slammed. I just heard back from my friend- she and her family still have no power but are ok!
(my friend lives in Augusta)
@@WaterBearReads Happy to hear your friend is ok!!
I was worried about you. So glad you're alright.
I did read that same Dana Girls book as I had it. Like you I felt it wasn’t as good as the Nancys but I enjoyed the two sister dynamic and the boarding school setting.
Maybe the next one will be better- but we love Nancy, so we shall see lol.
Yes, praying for those in the path of this next one.
So sorry to hear about your husband's aunt.
❤
He's actually here right now! He's doing great and growing like a weed. Praying for you grandson!
@@mitzireadsandwrites Yay! Remind me again what he is going to call you? Thanks for the prayers.
