  • 'Can we have it all?' Family? Social life? Work? Movies, tv shows or even Instagram refer to the idea of a perfect woman: sweet, smiling and with no opinion of their own while life is messy, very messy and we all are very complex human beings. It seems more women than ever feel the need to be perfect - at a time when the mental health of young women is a growing concern.
In this chat with Fearne, Billie Piper explains why she's so passionate about portraying characters who are just as complex on screen as we are in real life. Billie is not willing to hide away from tricky emotions, in fact, her latest TV work 'I Hate Suzie', has seen her really lean into pain, with the ultimate goal of making us all feel less alone watching something real on tv - even if it is not everyone's cup of tea.
Do you think there is still a lot of pressure on women to be perfect? Do you think there is a lack of characters on television who can help to demystify this problem?
Billie Piper is an English actress, filmmaker and former singer. Her big break came in her early teens when she was picked to start in Scratchy & Co. She has devoted a large part of her career to music until after her second album which spawned her third UK number one single, Billie announced that she wanted to focus on an acting career. Named most popular actress at the National Television Awards in 2006, Billie Piper won legions of fans thanks to Doctor Who, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Penny Dreadful, amongst others, being nominated for more than 70 recognised awards and the only female actor to have won all six of the currently available Best Actress awards in UK Theatre for a single performance.

Loved this. Yes, absolutely there are not enough female characters that really show how messy, emotionally we really are. Also, how lovely is Billie.

Question. If you aren't financially able to pay for all these types of therapy's being discussed, how do you move forward? Especially when Billie says she tried many therapy types to see what worked for her. I suppose Im saying unless you have money, you can't explore or access the support. Therapy is for the rich. And the biggest taboo, how much does therapy cost? No one EVER tells you?
