I've been using trash cans as composters for several years. I've used hardware cloth as a center aerator. I've used plastic yogurt cups perforated and zip tied into a column (don't try that...they disintegrated). But last year I found some rectangular trash cans that are narrow enough that I didn't have to add a column down the center. Now I'm using Rubbermaid Roughneck 30 gallon green plastic garbage cans, and I like them much better. I haven't found many places that sell them, but the best price I've found is at Ace Hardware.
Great tip about turning the lid over and adding holes to allow rain water. I'm kicking myself for not thinking of that myself. I've been using the same thing for a few years along with a larger bin and am very pleased with the results. I started out with two 32 gallon plastic trash cans and bought a section of 4" perforated pipe to use in the center. I find that when turning the compost and mixing it up it's easier to shovel out the compost from a full container into an empty one. I now have 3 cans, 2 are always either full or getting filled and a third one is empty and ready to be filled when it's time to turn.
Thank you for posting such practical videos. As an apartment gardener, i hardly have space. I have yhis size trashcan, dollar store has pool noodles, i have drill and i can put this in a safe place away from my garden. They oxygen thing makes sense. I just watched the powdered eggshell video and yesterday the 45 percwnt vinegar weed killer with cardboard video. 🎉
I've tried a 4' circular pile w/chicken wire (too big), and a plastic dog food container (2' x 3') - too small. Have a trash container, will try your idea next!!😂 Love your videos and also trying your Japanese water fountain!

A spring loaded snap, carabiner or quicklink would be easy to use to secure the lid.

I have access to coffee grounds when I make my compost been how munch of the coffee grounds should I use per garbage bin
2-3 cups should be adequate
