The G-Savior Gundam makes a cameo in the recent Gundam Build Fighters anime as a gunpla model at the beginningof episode 8. Sadly, it was quickly taken out because its use as a practice dummy against a Hayaku Shiki model.

This perfectly illustrates the inherent problems with adapting a cartoon/anime to live action movies, particularly gundam. 1. It's going to be effects heavy, and if you can't get the machines to look good and move well you might as well not bother. They're as important as the characters, if not more so. 2. Gundam stories (any cartoon/anime actually) are told over dozens of episodes. Trying to tell a complete, satisfying gundam story inside the time limit of a movie is very difficult. 3. Gundam stories almost always deal with lots of morally grey issues and have character conflicts centered around differences in ideology. Just sticking fighter pilots into giant robots doesn't even come close to cutting it. 4. A surprisingly handsome villain in a kinky mask is an absolute must. It's tradition. 5. Mobile suit battles in space should be MOBILE. They're in space darn it! Move in all three dimensions! 6. Firepower. If it doesn't have some beam spam and missile circus, it just isn't gundam. Anything else someone can think of?
+jose garcia They age of the pilots doesn't quite matter. That's only dictated to if they make a live-action movie of a series/ova/movie that has already existed in the Gundam Universe, then of course the characters/pilots must be a certain age, sometimes kids and sometimes teens. But if it's a new Gundam, like this, they can make the pilots whoever/whatever age they want. In Gundam Age, the first part of the series begins with Flit Asuno as a child, he grows through the series and continues piloting and building Gundams. He pilots to the day he's an old man, all shown within the anime. So, again, age of a pilot doesn't matter. That's up to Tomino & Sunrise to dictate, seeing as they are the owners of the entire Gundam Franchise. They chose these actors, and never made any objections. Therefore they were wanting this.

@ebess2 Just a small heads-up, Sunrise basically gave a bunch of people who knew next to nothing about Gundam a script and some pictures and essentially told them, 'Make a movie with this'. Considering that, by the time of the release of G Saviour, Gundam in the West was limited to Wing and 0083, you can't exactly blame the production team entirely for what happened.
Some of the concept designs for G-Saviour are fucking brilliant, especially when you see all the equipment and adjustable body parts that was possible, but just never surfaced in this movie because Sunrise never gave a shit.
As per standards, the one with the V-Fin comes in and IMMEDIATELY kicks ass and takes names. Awesome. For a movie that's so old, this is actually rather good. Seriously tho, why does the G-savior itself and the main enemy suit the only suits with beam shields, they where an MS standard by the time of victory gundam witch takes place 70 YEARS before this!!
@Nazzet Erm, that's the panoramic cockpit you're refering to. The one used here was a 3 monitor old style cockpit used in the one year war I believe. I have no idea why they're using 150 year old outdated technology.
If only people knew just how good they had it back when this first came out. "Wahhh its so bad, i wanna drink myself to death". Now look. It may as well be live action SEED.
@@ayylmao575 Honestly? Yeah, I do. It's part of the reason why I like 08th Team, since it's just normal pilots surviving in Vietnam War conditions. The suits don't zip around and one shot other suits, mobile armor is a massive threat, and the idea of an ace pilot on the field that can pilot at incredible speed and precision inspired genuine terror to the entire protagonist group. Clunky slow battles are where it's at for mecha action with me.
the weapons and equipments on the defensive side looks even worse than the rebels and voluntary militias from the previous era, not to mention the regular military. And by the way, does their MS look like GM series? (equipped with solid ammo machine guns with a beam saber and a solid shield)
Sunrise made this about ohhhhhh.... 17 years ago or so. It was made for Japan and the cgi as well as some of the rest of the production was produced by Digital Muse. One of the best cgi animators in the business (if not THE BEST), Aristomenis Tsirbas, was the lead animater on the project and was actually brought to the States (from Canada) to lead the project. Just a little info for those that are curious.
3 people working together to make a good Gundam movie: James Cameron for action and animation worthy of the Gundam name, and Hideaki Anno and Yoshiyuki Tomino for the writing, I just think it would be cool to have the creator of NGE working alongside Kill em all Tomino.
I watched the whole movie, it was good at first, but then, it was getting worse, the cgi was fine to me, the mecha designs was great(just for me), this is the real problem, its just that... The story doesn't makes anysense ,that's the problem
I've watched the movie, and... the Starship Troopers requisites, low budget acting, the systematic global starvation plan being "definitely sane", I get it. But on the other side, I think that Mark is the only Gundam movie protag so far who actually works as a Gundam movie protag. It's amusing that among many children MCs, he's a full grown man in his 30's who just wants to chill on his underwater rig before getting himself into big problems and overcoming his anxiety. And it takes just enough time to not feel either too long or short. Yes, his backstory is a bit generic, but what can you do? Also the G-Saviour looks pretty good.
After reading a summary of the movie, this scene sounds like it actually should have took place thirty-five minutes in, and following it they could have displayed character development and more battles.
This was surprisingly entertaining. Although extremely western. The mobile suits except for the Gundam have western design marks. The camera angles are western. The sound effects are western. The projectiles are typical western made for tv sci-fi even in the way they're shown, shot, sound, ect. The bad guy was pretty stereotypical super evil which was annoying. At least he didn't have a mask, I guess. Glad I sat through this, because if the movie is as boring as said, then I just got the only good bits. Although the suits seem a bit slower than even one year war models, it's typical western space combat speeds shown. Actually a bit faster. This is still better than a lot of what we saw in DS9 and B5 as far as combat goes. Not up to par with typical gundam anime battles, of course but not god awful.
+onigojira Well, Sunrise are the ones who chose to make it "Western". But it's pretty good. I just wish they would've included more fight scenes in the overall movie, or more interesting storyline. But overall it's a great movie/video game.
Xbuster6 G-Saviour would benefit from having an actual show. We have A LOT of good sci-fi show makers over here, who touch on different styles. From Star Gate to Trek to Battlestar, I think they'd be able to find something if they wanted to make a gundam show with a western feel. I think the concept of the political sphere falling in to turmoil after the weakened Federation collapses is interesting. They never recovered after the Titans incident, and it looks like there's a little tech stagnation going on as no centralized power holds the resources needed to push mobile suits past what we've already seen. My only fear about them expanding this would be that western sci-fi, even trek, is generally not as hard sci-fi or as "tech oriented" as Gundam is traditionally seen as now.
The fact that I must sped this clip at least at 150% speed proves that the fight scene in this movie is slow as fuck. Even the battle theme itself is better when I sped it up.
@payot this movie take place like 250 years in our future, it should be really more futuristic than that ( like in the other UC series ). Just look 200 years before now and you'll see the BIG change. Even if it's not realistic they could at least follow the evolution of the technologies in the UC
Ah. I see what you meant about the star wars thing. Mobile suit pilots don't just stand there and swing beam sabers at each other. This was made by a canadian company. Who obviously had no idea what the hell they were doing in regards to Gundam. However Sunrise/bandai is also to blame for not better overseeing something that is supposed to be a tribute to the 20th anniversary of Gundam.
I can't believe I actually bought this movie when it came out... You sit through the entire movie, for this. Sorry to spoil it, but to anyone who hasn't seen the movie, THIS is all the mobile suit action in the ENTIRE movie. Sure, you get a few MS snippets here and there, but this is the only battle. And not even a good one at that. I'd wager a Zaku II could outmaneuver these clunker mobile suits any day of the week.

@rasheobob They don't really need a 'die hard' Gundam fan to make one. I believe, if they try and attempt to make a new one, they should make a movie that is not based on the Universal Century. The newer shows, such as Gundam 00 or Gundam AGE does not have any direct link other than calling their main mobile suits Gundam. However, that doesn't mean I think they should not have a Gundam knowledgeable person in their crew. Having one would make it slightly more plausible.
+max masterson It's an official film produced by the Gundam Franchise, which is owned by Tomino and Sunrise souly. Sunrise and Bandai distributed the film, it was originally done in English (this version), then later dubbed into Japanese for the Japan-region release.
Agreed, that and a mixture of the same kind of graphics you see on a low-end budget 3rd world TV short-series. I hear they're making a live action Evangelion and the production team was the same that made the lord of the rings, i'm curious on how a really well-made live action anime will look.
***** The irony of it is that at the end of Victory Gundam in the lore of it all, the Federation supposedly got their hands on the ZMTS37S Zanspine. Even though the suit is 50 years old, its tech was apparently used by the Federation in their mobile suits later on. I mean the suit literally was told to be even more powerful than the Victory 2 Gundam of the league militaire, they had plenty of chances to construct better equipment after the war [aside from the red tape of the EFF I guess]. Then you get to G Saviour and you see this shit. I'd wish they'd given an explanation how bad the federation continued to suck from UC153-UC223

I'm surprised people liked this LOL
Like is a strong word...
did you find this movie on the net or do you own the dvd?
I honestly, cannot fathom this is real. I can't process this at all. Jesus Christ why was this made?
YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME?! CMON! CMON!!
@booknevercloses Have you watched movies such as Battle Royal? The content is different but its still a masterpiece
Even the GMs from the anime didn't suck this bad, at least they actually shot at the enemy and really did some damage instead of just standing there looking back and forth, just waiting to get shot by these pathetic excuses for Zakus and Gelgoogs ! ! !
@AstartesX
exactly
hopefully they'll do a reboot.
Somehow I can just hear the voice of Obi-wan Kenobi saying "Luke, use the force" and seeing whoever the main character is just turning his monitor off and saving the day... no I'm not a nerd I just used to be a kid in love with star wars. And by kid I mean 17 jk
This was posted the day before I was born
well, its ok for a fan film...
max masterson it's not a fan film......
it's official
max masterson It's an official film before next real-robot movie (*Pacific Rim*).
+max masterson It's an official film produced by the Gundam Franchise, which is owned by Tomino and Sunrise souly. Sunrise and Bandai distributed the film, it was originally done in English (this version), then later dubbed into Japanese for the Japan-region release.
Finally, someone who gets it.
well it's been 11 years since this movie came out....i think a new hit is going to come out soon.
In the late Universal Century and they still use physical shields, even mobile suits 100 years ago use beam shields.
The old starwars movie's had better space battle effects than this.
Agreed, that and a mixture of the same kind of graphics you see on a low-end budget 3rd world TV short-series. I hear they're making a live action Evangelion and the production team was the same that made the lord of the rings, i'm curious on how a really well-made live action anime will look.
even a zaku in 0079 is better than any of these shit in uc0223 LOL
***** lol the ball would devastate the battle
DarkExes GBouncer A lot can happen in 70 years. But yeah, seems like a bit of disaster is needed to explain this lapse in superiority. Setbacks, to say the least.
I would like to know what happened past UC153 between then and gaia gear or G Saviour. It would be nice to know how the federation further declined.
DarkExes GBouncer Over several generations of peace, humans become increasingly nostalgic and obsessive over terrible TV movies and shows from the 80s and 90s. They become progressively more dull and predictable after repeated exposure to the likes of Starship Troopers, Space 1999, Battlefield Earth, SeaQuest, Galactica, and Cleopatra 2025.
G-saviour was distributed by Bandai Visual D:
is that the Gundam F91?
Please don't compare Gundam F91 to this trash heap.
Freedom and Strike freedom are just overpowered Gundams that seem to be be almost invinsible and have seemingly infinte mounds of ammo. Its all about teh Psycho Nu Gundam
And what do you thinks better
hahaha the acting.. its all about the face.. hahahaha making faces when in the cockpit
