I need to do my basement soon. What is the benefit of the subfloor instead of tiling directly onto the concrete? I have already checked my concrete floor , I borrowed a laser level and it is very flat.

A subfloor the way we do adds a couple degrees of warmth by creating a thermal break from the concrete. The subfloor allows air to circulate to dissipate any dampness that the concrete holds. It helps straighten the floor slightly. You can always install different flooring on it. It all depends on where you live and the conditions or climate of the basement also. If you’re installing tile on the concrete you really don’t need a subfloor. I would definitely recommend an uncoupling membrane before you install directly on the concrete. It is entirely a preference of the home owner and the condition of the floor. I hope this helps, stay safe and healthy! Thank you for watching our videos!

@@idealdirecthomeimprovement1639 thanks for the reply. I know the membrane product well. My buddy is the person who first held the North American rights to the Delta product and then started to manufacture it in Beamsville, just off the QEW.
